Brittney Griner: WNBA star sentenced to 9 years in Russian jail for drug-smuggling – CNN

There has been a growing chorus of calls for Washington to do more to secure Griner’s release nearly five months after being arrested on drug charges.

WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to 9 years in Russian prison after being convicted on drug charges by a Moscow court Thursday.  Griner pleaded guilty last month in a lengthy trial that has underscored the frayed relations between the United States and Russia since the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. 

Prosecutors asked for a sentence of 9 1/2 years after closing arguments Thursday.
In a final plea for leniency, an emotional Griner apologized and repeated that she
never intended to break any Russian laws but that she had made “an honest mistake.”  

Just hours later, Judge Anna Sotnikova returned to announce she had been found guilty
of drug possession and smuggling. Griner, 31, will also have to pay a fine of 1 million rubles ($16,590), but can appeal the verdict. 

Attention will now turn to the potential for a prisoner swap between Washington and Moscow. U.S. officials are not expecting rapid movement in the effort to get Griner released, but will keep pressing the issue, a U.S. official told NBC News.  

“Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney,” President Joe Biden said in a statement shortly after the verdict was announced.  

“It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with
her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates. My administration will continue to work
tirelessly and pursue every possible avenue to bring Brittney and Paul Whelan home
safely as soon as possible.”

Griner’s legal team said she was “very disappointed,” in a statement to reporters outside the courthouse, adding they were “very surprised by the verdict. “The court completely ignored the evidence of the defense, and most importantly, the guilty plea,” her lawyers said in a separate statement sent on the Telegram messaging app.

They added that they will file an appeal. 

And Griner’s WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, said it remained hopeful the Biden administration will secure the basketball great’s freedom. “While we knew it was never
the legal process that was going to bring our friend home, today’s verdict is a sobering milestone in the 168-day nightmare being endured by our sister, BG,” the WNBA franchise said in a statement. 

“We remain heartbroken for her, as we have every day for nearly six months. We remain grateful to and confident in the public servants working every day to return her to her family and us.” Griner was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport in February; Russian authorities said they found vape canisters with cannabis oil in her luggage. 

Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, admitted the canisters were hers.
She said she took them to Russia unintentionally after packing her luggage in a hurry. 

The Kremlin has been accused of using Griner as a political pawn, while the Biden administration has been under growing pressure from her family and teammates to secure her release. The U.S. government has proposed that Moscow release Griner and another American, Paul Whelan, who is serving a 16-year sentence for espionage, in exchange for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, according to two sources familiar with the matter. 

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday that
Russia responded in “bad faith” to the U.S. government’s offer with one of its own.
“We don’t see it as a serious counteroffer,” she said. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who spoke with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, last week — the highest-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February — to urge the Kremlin to accept the U.S. offer. 

The Russians responded by urging the U.S. to refrain from speculation and pursue
“Quiet diplomacy” instead. In a statement after the sentencing Thursday, Blinken said
that it “compounds the injustice of her wrongful detention.” 

“This step puts a spotlight on our significant concerns with Russia’s legal system and
the Russian government’s use of wrongful detentions to advance its own agenda, using
individuals as political pawns,” he added. 

In May, the State Department reclassified Griner as having been “wrongfully detained”
and transferred oversight of her case to its presidential envoy for hostage affairs.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has denied Griner is being held as a hostage.  

Biden spoke with Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, last month. He also sent a letter directly to Griner after she sent him a handwritten note pleading for help to get her released. 

On Thursday, Griner was led into a cage inside the courtroom in handcuffs, wearing a gray-colored shirt. Before the proceedings began, she displayed a photo of her teammates from the Russian club she played for in the WNBA off-season. Her lawyer Maria Blagovolina called prosecutors’ requests for a strict sentence “nonsense.”

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years. 

Her defense team called into question some of the expert analysis used in the case
and said Griner did not have proper interpreter access during her arrest. They pointed
out Griner’s many athletic accomplishments, including in Russia, where the 6-foot-9 native of Houston plays for Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company Ekaterinburg. 

Her lawyers reiterated that Griner has only used cannabis medically and has never used
it in Russia. They asked for Griner to be acquitted or be given the most lenient sentence possible. 

As Griner addressed the court, her voice trembled as she apologized to her fans, family
and teammates for any embarrassment or damage that she may have brought on them.
She called the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, where she played, her second home. 

“I never meant to hurt anybody,” she said. “I never meant to put the Russian population
in jeopardy. I never meant to break any laws here.” Prosecutors had asked for a 9 1/2-year sentence for the WNBA star. After Thursday’s verdict, attention will turn to the potential for a prisoner swap between the United States and Russia.

Trevor Reed, a US citizen freed earlier this year after being detained in Russia for nearly three years, said Friday that Brittney Griner’s sentence by a Russian court is “clearly political.”
Griner, a WNBA star who was arrested in Russia in February, was convicted Thursday
of deliberately smuggling drugs into Russia and sentenced to nine years of jail time. She plays there in the off-season and was accused of trying to smuggle less than 1 gram of cannabis oil in her luggage.

“Regardless of how you feel about Brittney Griner’s case, that sentence is clearly political. There’s no denying that,” Reed told CNN’s Brianna Keilar on “New Day.”
Reed, a former US Marine, was arrested in Russia in 2019, accused of endangering the “life and health” of Russian police officers in an altercation — charges that he and his family denied. He was sentenced by a Russian court to nine years in prison in 2020 and had been transferred to a labor camp during his detainment.

Reed was released in a prisoner swap in April and returned home to the US.
Reed on Friday laid out what could happen next for Griner, who has returned to the Russian detention center where she was kept during her trial while her lawyers vow to appeal the sentence.

“Once you are convicted in a Russian court, you do have a chance to go to appeals, and appeal that decision to another kangaroo court in Moscow. So, after that trial, you know, depending on Brittney’s decision on whether she wants to appeal or not, she may stay in Moscow at the detention facility that she is already at until her appeals are completed. 
Or if she chooses not to go to appeals, they may transfer her to a forced labor camp.

Considering the fact that the Russian government is considering exchanging her, they may also decide to leave her in Moscow to make it easier for her to be returned to the United States,” Reed said.
Reed said anyone who’s held in a Russian forced labor camp is “facing serious threats to their health” due to malnutrition, little to no medical attention and the risk of contracting diseases.

The Biden administration has classified Griner as wrongfully detained and continues to negotiate for her release.
Reed had previously told CNN that he believes Griner and Paul Whelan, another wrongfully detained American in Russia, “have a really good chance” of being released following CNN’s exclusive reporting that the Biden administration offered to exchange convicted Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout as part of a potential deal to secure Griner and Whelan’s release.
Russian government officials requested last month that a former colonel from the country’s domestic spy agency, who was convicted of murder in Germany last year,
be included in the US’ proposed swap of Bout for Griner and Whelan,
multiple sources familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, told reporters in Cambodia on Friday that the Kremlin is “ready to discuss this topic, but within the framework of the channel that has been agreed by the presidents,” state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

And shortly after, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at the same summit that the US will “pursue” talks with Russia. Reed told CNN Friday: “I am hoping that there will be an exchange that we are able to get them home, so I am hoping for the best in that.”

Many people have experienced significant health improvements after switching to the carnivore diet.
This post features Mikhaila Peterson, her discovery of the carnivore diet, and her journey to healing and health.
In particular, we will look at health issues she had suffered from childhood into adulthood, how modern medicine failed her, how she discovered the carnivore diet and experienced remarkable improvements in her health, and how it changed her life.

Born in 1992, Mikhaila Peterson is the daughter of Jordan Peterson, a well-known Canadian professor of psychology, and Tammy Peterson.
Myriad health problems followed her from childhood into adulthood.
At age 2, she had symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Her parents noticed something was wrong with her hips because her way of walking seemed odd, and she would cry when they put her down after she was being carried on their shoulders.
At age 7, she was diagnosed with arthritis. Many of her joints were actively inflamed and they were injected with cortisone to control inflammation.
At age 8, she was the first kid in Canada to be put on Enbrel, a prescription medication used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, as well as a number of other medications.
At age 9, she began to show symptoms of depression, anxiety, and OCD tendencies.
At age 10, those symptoms had become severe enough that she was put on SSRI
(Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), a widely used antidepressant.
At age 14, she began to experience chronic fatigue and itching which
she then had to battle with for the next few years.
At age 16, she was told that she would need a hip replacement before the age of 30
because of the state her hip was in. But her condition deteriorated so much in the following six months that she needed a hip replacement at age 17. In the same year,
she also had an ankle replacement because her ankle cartilage had mostly eroded.
Mikhaila Peterson’s health problems into adulthood
At age 19, she went to university and things went downhill very quickly from there due
to the change in her diet. She went from eating whole grains and organic food with her parents to surviving off noodles.
As a result, she experienced mouth ulcers, bleeding gums, thinning hair, her skin simply stopped healing, extreme fatigue, idiopathic hypersomnia, and severe brain fog.

She also gained weight and her depression got worse which she tried to fix with antidepressant medications, including taking large doses of strong immune-suppressing drugs like methotrexate. Her dose of Wellbutrin, an antidepressant, was increased high enough that it gave her a seizure. She was willing to live with the condition, however, other problems soon followed such as skin breakout and itching which doctors couldn’t help her.
Realizing how unwell she was, she began researching and was advised by a naturopath to go on an elimination diet.

In May 2015, she eliminated gluten because she has the celiac gene but that didn’t
make much difference. She kept going, eliminating more including dairy, soy, lectins,
and sweeteners.
In September 2015, she went on an elimination diet that she came up with herself,
it was just meat, root vegetables, and rice because she thought nobody seemed to be allergic to these foods.
Later on, she cut out rice because she realized that it bothered her and was left with apples, greens, root vegetables (excluding potatoes), and meat.
She did really well on this low-carb diet, and she managed to stop all her medications including antidepressants in November 2016. She mentioned it is usually really dark in November in Canada and for people with depression, it is definitely not a good time to stop the antidepressant medication, but she knew it was gone and she could stop the medication.

How did Mikhaila Peterson discover the carnivore diet?
When Mikhaila got pregnant in December 2016, all of her arthritis and depression symptoms came back.
She reported having joint pain when picking up her baby or her wrist would buckle when she tried to push herself up on her wrist. This made her frustrated and angry. She had a taste of what good health was like and now it was all happening again, and she didn’t know what to do for about a year.
At the time, all she had was meat, lettuce, pepper, salt, apple cider vinegar, and olive oil. She thought she’d cut out most foods and she needed the lettuce for vitamins.

But she then came across Shawn Baker on one of Joe Rogan Experience episodes. 
Shawn said he was eating meat only for two years, but he looked strong and healthy,
so, she decided to try out this meat-only diet.

In December 2017, she cut out everything except meat.
Despite being on a low-carb diet for a while, she still had initial transitional symptoms like bloating and diarrhea.
However, the itching and arthritis went away within a week, and her depression lifted in about 6 weeks.
According to Mikhaila, the carnivore diet has allowed her to get off over 10 medications and put several, seemingly incurable, life-long diseases into complete remission, including arthritis, depression, bipolar type II, idiopathic hypersomnia, Lyme disease, psoriasis, and dyshidrotic eczema.
She did everything her doctors told her and everything they tried failed but she succeeded by simply switching to the carnivore diet.

What does Mikhaila Peterson eat?
She started with beef, salt, and water. Nowadays, her version of the carnivore diet
includes high-fat beef, lamb, elk, and other ruminants. She generally eats once or twice a day, mostly ribs, about a pound and a half. She also drinks alcohol occasionally; she can tolerate vodka and bourbon.

She also said that she doesn’t take any vitamin supplements.
In a Q&A session with Toronto Life in August 2018, she said she’d had vitamins and cholesterol checked recently and everything was normal, but her doctor is very skeptical of the carnivore diet.
As with her daughter’s diet, Mikhaila said she won’t keep her daughter on a restricted diet like herself, but she definitely won’t let her daughter have sugar or grains.
Mikhaila also mentioned that she practices fasting regularly, increasing from 18 hours to 24 hours to 36 hours. She also did a 7-day fast recently, drinking only electrolytes.
The downside of the carnivore diet for her is when she eats something other than meat,
for example, a bit of pepper on steak, the reaction can be horrific.

Mikhaila managed to persuade her dad, Jordan Peterson, to try out the all-meat diet.
He too had resolved many health problems. In an interview with The Atlantic, Jordan Peterson said his lifelong depression, anxiety, gastric reflux (and associated snoring), inability to wake up in the mornings, psoriasis, gingivitis, floaters in his right eye, numbness on the sides of his legs, problems with mood regulation were all gone.

Due to the popularity of Joe Rogan’s podcast (one of the most-watched podcasts on the web), Mikhaila and her dad’s transformational experience on the carnivore diet reached a large audience and helped the carnivore diet in attracting public attention.
Mikhaila now promotes her version of the carnivore diet “the lion diet” through her blog and YouTube channel and other media appearances. Her ‘lion diet’ version is basically ruminant meat (e.g., beef, lamb, goat), salt, and water.

Like so many, I have spent time watching the events play out in Afghanistan
and pondering its meaning and long-term implications for America. Some of my
thoughts are contained in the previous Afghanistan edition of the Newsletter. 
But it has also caused me to wonder more broadly whether it is a harbinger of America’s decline and fall, or the opposite, the spark for its renewal. Being a student of history, and always mindful of that wise aphorism regarding those who neglect to learn from it, aIso sought guidance in the past.
America is not of course the first nation to encounter troubles in Afghanistan, known
for good reason as the “graveyard of empires.” Prior to America, the Soviet Union failed spectacularly in Afghanistan, leading to its ultimate demise only but a few years later.

But there are also historical examples of failure in Afghanistan leading to a nation’s renewal. Take the British. Who in 1842 were embarrassingly defeated by Afghan warlords? Far from leading to the fall or decline of the British Empire, however, it caused the British to recalibrate and concentrate on more important interests and competitors, including China. A fact portending America’s current situation. As Gregory Mitrovich writes in an excellent piece in the South China Morning Post entitled America in decline?
China still has a way to go before it can seriously challenge the US:

“Although the victory of the Taliban is a blow to the US, there is an important historical lesson that China should remember. In 1842, the Afghan warlords had defeated British efforts to install a ruler who was friendly to British interests, giving credence to Afghanistan’s reputation as the “graveyard of empires”.
However, this ignores the reason Britain accepted this setback; it chose instead to focus on the Opium War in China, a defeat which Chinese leaders still regard as the beginning of the “century of humiliation”. As Beijing must understand, the US is similarly abandoning Afghanistan in 2021 to concentrate on its contest with China.”.

Thus, history shows that America’s failure in Afghanistan, as dire as it currently appears, does not necessarily portend America’s fall and decline. In fact, it could even provide the catalyst to just the opposite–a new rise to even greater heights.
This question of whether Afghanistan will be for America a harbinger of decline and fall, or catalyst for renewal, brought me to ponder the decline and fall of another famous empire: The Roman Empire. And to compare the circumstances that brought it down with those of present day America.
Comparisons between America and the Roman Empire are not new of course and are in fact—forgive the pun—legion, and even something of a cottage industry. I am also mindful of the potential folly of going too far in projecting the unique factors and circumstances that befell the Roman Empire a thousand years ago onto 21st century America.
But there are, I believe, instructive lessons for America from Rome’s decline and fall.
Even glaring warnings that should be heeded. And as I pondered the causes of Rome’s decline and fall, I saw similarities to many of the ills currently plaguing America.

To that end, the History Channel has compiled a handy list of 8 main causes
for the decline and fall of the Roman Empire generally agreed upon by historians.

They are as follows:
Invasions by Barbarian tribes
Economic troubles and overreliance on slave labor
The rise of the Eastern Empire
Overexpansion and military overspending
Government corruption and political instability
The arrival of the Huns and the migration of the Barbarian tribes
Christianity and the loss of traditional values
Weakening of the Roman legions

In Part I, we will analyze the first cause above and its application and analogy
to America, and how America can avoid Rome’s fate.

I. Invasions by Barbarian tribes:
One of the chief causes agreed upon by historians for the Roman Empire’s collapse
was a string of military losses against outside forces like the Goths and the Vandals.

The History Channel explains:
“The most straightforward theory for Western Rome’s collapse pins the fall on a string of military losses sustained against outside forces. Rome had tangled with Germanic tribes for centuries, but by the 300s “barbarian” groups like the Goths had encroached beyond the Empire’s borders. The Romans weathered a Germanic uprising in the late fourth century, but in 410 the Visigoth King Alaric successfully sacked the city of Rome. 
The Empire spent the next several decades under constant threat before “the Eternal City” was raided again in 455, this time by the Vandals. Finally, in 476, the Germanic leader Odoacer staged a revolt and deposed the Emperor Romulus Augustulus.
From then on, no Roman emperor would ever again rule from a post in Italy,
leading many to cite 476 as the year the Western Empire suffered its deathblow.”
While, unlike Rome, America is not yet in any immediate threat of having its capitol sacked and raided by an outside force, since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 America has engaged in wars and military conflicts in the Middle East against modern day barbarians like Al Qaeda, ISIS and the Taliban. Culminating in America’s recent withdrawal from the war in Afghanistan.

Though the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have not directly threatened the American homeland, they have certainly weakened America. They have caused America to spend trillions in treasure, deploy countless human and material assets and resources, and distracted America from far more important priorities in both the domestic and foreign policy arenas.
They have also hurt America’s credibility on the world stage and its ability to project
power around the world and shattered the myth of its invincibility. Exemplified by the humiliating sight of the Taliban returning triumphantly to power after 20 long years of war.
The failures in Afghanistan are not the result of any lack of resoluteness or prowess by America’s military forces, who, to the contrary, exhibited both in spades, holding and controlling a large, inhospitable, and ungovernable nation located on the other side of
the world for 20 years.

A remarkable achievement, perhaps unmatched by any military in history.
No, the failure in Afghanistan is attributable to an absolute lack of will, vision, and competency on the part of America’s political leadership. This represents the largest and most dire problem that America faces and is in many ways at the root of all the others. Indeed, it could rightly be called America’s Achilles heel.
The wars in the Middle East also caused America to take its focus away from other outside threats, most notably, that of China. While America expended enormous resources and focus in the Middle East, America allowed China to metastasize to an existential level threat to American power. History will show this to be a severe strategic blunder on America’s part, akin to spending time and energy removing a relatively innocuous wart, while ignoring the rapid growth of a potentially terminal tumor.

Unfortunately, however, China is not the only malignant disease that grew untreated
while America was at war in the Middle East. Alas, it may not even be the most dangerous. America’s domestic situation has rapidly deteriorated over the past 20 years as it concentrated on nation building abroad while neglecting to do the same at home.
And now the days right before and directly after 9/11 appear in retrospect to
be the apex of US domestic strength and unity, from which thereafter it was all downhill.
And the world before 9/11, which I grew up in, seems now on so many levels a paradise
long lost and forgotten; a veritable Eden from which we have been cast out.

There are numerous reasons of course for the rot and the decay that have also crept into America, some long predating 9/11, and which will be discussed at length in other sections. But there can be no doubt that 9/11 and the wars and circumstances that followed contributed to and exacerbated all of them.
But while 9/11 and the wars in the Middle East have clearly caused America to decline, whether they will be a cause of its ultimate fall is yet to be seen. They do perhaps hold the seeds that may yet bring it about. They also, however, may hold the seeds for an entirely new rise.

For hope in this regard, America can look to the historical example
of its comparative failure in Vietnam, and the domestic upheaval that surrounded it.
Though America lost in Vietnam, again largely as the result of its political leadership,
it rebounded quickly to ultimately triumph against its great rival the Soviet Union in the first Cold War, and became in only a few years more powerful, and unified, than ever.
A testament to America’s extraordinary regenerative powers.

Though as Johns Hopkins University scholar and renowned author Hal Brands notes the “US recovery didn’t happen automatically … it took a concerted effort to revive American power”. It also took a once in a generation leader in President Ronald Reagan and the Reagan revolution, taking over from the historically weak and inept Jimmy Carter, and replacing Carter’s Malaise with Morning in America.

Council of the Gods’s schizophrenic flux is a captivating representation of the competing interests of its time. The plot, about big industry’s complicity in building weapons, is based on Nuremberg Trial transcripts about the chemical company IG-Farben. The look of the film–flimsy studio sets, sinister research labs, and cheap stock footage–is reminiscent of B-horrors. The villains, ravenous Americans and capitalists, reek of Communist (and ironically Nazi) propaganda stereotypes. And the overriding “up with people” sentiment appears lifted from the ’30s Federal Theatre Project. (It is “dedicated to the friends of freedom all over the world.”)
Dr. Hans Scholz (Fritz Tillmann) is a simple family man drawn into larger events through unwitting complicity and deliberate ignorance. While developing a “devilish brew” for a Rhineland “monster company,” he repeatedly ignores the warnings of his collectivization-minded fellow workers. In histrionic arguments about the nature of their work they shout, “You’re abetting our slide into another war!” he counters, “I’m a scientist, not a politico!” The factory owners, the self-proclaimed “council of the gods,” form an international capitalist coalition to build weapons for the approaching world war. They care only for business and blithely joke about the effects of their policies. Scholz learns too late that the gas he developed is being marked for Auschwitz.
Scholz’s moral decline is ably captured by Tillman’s performance, his long mournful face and high receding hairline exposes a skull that appears to be both brilliant and empty.
The larger exposé of crooked business is not as successfully conveyed. The dealings between brokers are conducted with a cackling evil glee verging on camp. Yet the examination of Standard Oil’s role in assisting the Nazis is an intriguing topic, largely unexamined at the time by Americans equally eager to sweep their unsavory wartime
acts under the rug.
After the war ends, Gods first follows the attempts of Scholz and his co-worker
Karl (Albert Garbe) to turn the factory into a people’s collective adapted to peacetime.
But Chairman Mauch (Paul Bildt) returns from the Nuremberg trials intent on producing chemical weapons for the US (which spared the factory during bombings), anticipating a “new war to make billions.” Scholz stages a rally for peace proclaiming, “That’s the truth. The whole truth. Nobody can say they didn’t know it.” The ending sends mixed messages, seemingly supporting Communist ideology while sounding the alarm about an impending arms race in which the Soviets were certainly involved. There is a force and power in this closing sequence, and an uncertain buzz between the simple humanitarian message and the politics of DEFA’s increasingly propagandistic films.

You’re still going to spend at the pump. Hybrid vehicles don’t have a long range for operating on electricity, making gasoline the primary power source for longer road trips. For example, the Environmental Protection Agency sets the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s electric-only range at 42 miles.
You’re still going to emit plenty of carbon. Beyond the monthly payment and operating expenses, hybrid cars still take a toll on the environment. “The plug-in hybrid will reduce your fuel consumption,” Montoya says, “but not entirely.” If you’re serious about doing your part to lower your carbon footprint, you should know that a hybrid car’s gas usage will continue to play a role in polluting the planet.

Drawbacks
Unfortunately, electric vehicles also come with a few downsides:
You might need to search for a place to charge your car. If your battery is low, finding
a place to charge it isn’t as simple as finding a gas station to refill. “You’ll find that both coasts of the U.S. have the most charge stations,” Montoya says. “It’s when you get into
the north-central states like Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming where they become sparser.” But the future of electric cars looks bright with more charging stations and
plans from the federal government to bring down prices.

You may be waiting a while for each charge to complete. While fast public charging stations are becoming more common, some of the most basic charging stations take a long time to deliver the juice to go far. For example, 120V charging stations offer the ability to go two to five miles for every hour of charging. That is okay if you are charging overnight, but it isn’t convenient if you need a quick fill-up.

You are going to pay more. All new cars are more expensive right now, but electric cars tend to come with higher sticker prices and higher monthly payments than the gas car you’re used to driving. Your insurance bill may be more, too. A study from financial technology company Self showed that insurance costs for electric cars average more
than $400 higher than gas cars.

The bottom line
Whether you decide to buy a hybrid or electric car, you’re going to need plenty of money
to buy a new vehicle right now. Since prices are at record highs, it’s even more important to take your time and consider what suits your lifestyle better. You might not want to take too much time, though.

Biden’s gas price nightmare is America’s future

The political pain that high gasoline prices have inflicted on President Joe Biden
offers a potential warning to future presidents: It’s likely to happen to you, too.

The reason: The United States’ capacity for refining oil into gasoline is declining,
a trend that appears irreversible — for reasons that include climate change.
But the nation’s appetite for fuel is holding firm, no matter all the predictions
of a future filled with electric cars.

The result is a domestic gasoline supply on a hair trigger, making the nation more vulnerable to fuel panics that would resemble last year’s hacker-driven shutdown of
the Colonial Pipeline, while feeding inflation and angering voters. Since early 2020,
the United States’ fuel-producing capacity has fallen by nearly 1 million barrels per
day, or about 5 percent.

“We are going to be operating a shrunken, old and in-need-of-repair refining system a lot harder,” said Bob McNally, head of consulting firm Rapidan Energy and former senior director for international energy on the National Security Council in the George W. Bush administration. “Future presidents and administrations are going to be absolutely bedeviled by high gasoline prices.”

Republicans have pummeled the Biden administration for record high gasoline prices, blaming the jump on the president’s focus on climate change and his promises to reduce the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels. But instead of being a modern outlier, the high prices may signal a new norm that future residents of the White House of either party will have to face down.

A much-forecasted drop in demand for oil-derived transportation fuels has yet to arrive, even as the capacity for the United States to produce such fuel is falling away, McNally said in an interview.

Oil prices are the biggest component of gasoline prices, but as refinery capacity shrinks, it can create bottlenecks in fuel production that worsen price spikes when supplies are tight. Average regular gasoline prices peaked above $5 per gallon in June — and while they have fallen since then to $4.35 as of Monday, prices at the pump have fallen more slowly than the cost of oil.

Biden has moved to try to limit both economic and political fallout from the high prices, releasing a million barrels of crude a day from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, relaxing restrictions on summer ethanol sales and calling for a temporary lifting of the
18-cent-per-gallon federal gasoline tax. The administration has sought to take credit
for the recent price dip — but analysts warn the pullback may be temporary, especially
if Russian oil shipments decrease or U.S. refineries suffer unexpected outages during hurricane season.

And over the past three years, a confluence of factors has prompted more refineries to either shut down or retool to produce only renewable diesel.

Many refining companies, burdened with heavy debt, became extremely unprofitable as the pandemic sapped fuel demand for more than a year. Climate change increased both the physical hazards their plants faced and their insurance costs. Meanwhile, investors were more willing to open their wallets for alternative energy projects than upkeep on decades-old fossil fuel refineries.

In all, the 130 U.S. petroleum refineries had combined capacity to process nearly
18 million barrels a day in April, according to the Energy Information Administration,
down from a peak of nearly 19 million in 2020. The higher costs of labor, steel and energy itself will pressure others to close, said Anne Slattery, senior analyst with consulting firm RSM US.

“The cost of heating the buildings, everything they use to run their refineries,” has gone up, Slattery said. “Refining capacity has really decreased significantly in the U.S. and globally. That really discourages and prohibits our ability to meet demand and contributes to volatility of prices.”

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm broached the issue with heads of refining companies at a meeting in June, a senior department official said in an interview. “The conversation was focused on what did you do with that refining capacity and how are you thinking about it now given the current price environment,” the official said. “I think for some of the ones that idled [capacity] rather than shut down, I think they’re reconsidering what could come back. We’re continuing to work with folks like that.”

One option for the Energy Department is to help refinery owners
convert their plants to manufacture biodiesel, the official said.

Some analysts have argued that fuel efficiency and the increasing number of electric vehicles on the roads of Europe and the United States will lower gasoline demand at a faster pace than the drop in refining capacity. Both the International Energy Agency and the U.S. Energy Information Administration have forecast a steep drop in fossil fuel demand in the United States and other developed countries, predictions that are persuading investors and even some refinery executives to put their money into renewable energy.

“This is a problem that technology is solving,” said David Goldwyn, president of energy consulting firm Goldwyn Global Strategies and a former State Department special envoy for international energy affairs in the Obama administration. “You have an internal combustion engine phase-out in Europe. You have the U.S. reaching the tipping point on electric vehicles. I think it will either fall on the refiners or the government to build some [fuel] reserves for resilience purposes, but long term, no one is going to build a new refinery.”

But at least in the short term, the expected drop in gasoline demand has yet to emerge. Electric vehicle makers, beset by their own supply chain issues, haven’t been able to sell enough cars and trucks to offset a potential major shock to the U.S. gasoline market.

Even so, the reduced gasoline production is unlikely to persuade investors and refinery executives to put money into keeping their plants open, the analysts said. The growing mismatch will become a major headache for whichever political party is in power, said Mark Jones, a professor at Rice University in Houston who specializes in energy and policy.

“Even if a [Republican Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis is elected president, the industry still sees the writing on the wall,” Jones said in an interview. “If a major hurricane hits the Gulf Coast, there simply will be gasoline shortages nationwide and a substantial spike in prices. Our capacity is getting limited.”

Biden blasts ‘ultra-MAGA’ Republicans’ inflation plans:

Twice as much refining capacity has shut down in the past three years as in the
preceding 10 years. Among the biggest shutdowns was the Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery in Philadelphia, the largest and one of the oldest on the East Coast. It suffered a major explosion in 2019 and was permanently shuttered, leaving a major hole in the region’s fuel supply.

In 2021, Phillips 66 decided to close its refinery in Belle Chasse, La., after floodwaters from Hurricane Ida breached its protective walls and caused severe damage. Scientists have pointed to that storm, which intensified rapidly as it moved through warmer-than-normal waters in the Gulf, as one that showed the impacts of climate change.

European oil giant Shell shut down its Convent refinery in Louisiana after it made a strategic shift to shrink its fossil fuel asset portfolio — and after failing to find anyone to buy it. The company is now in the process of converting it to produce renewable diesel. More recently, refining and chemicals company LyondellBasell said that it will close its refinery along the Houston Ship Channel next year as it moves away from producing
fossil fuels.

The cost of running these refineries — some of which began operating a century ago —
is increasing, partly due to the rising threats from climate change.
About half the country’s fuel-making capacity is clustered along the Gulf Coast, where the rising air and water temperatures are making hurricanes more destructive and shifting weather patterns are capable of bringing ice even to balmy South Texas.

“When you have refineries in operation along the coast — anywhere coastal, anywhere in
a tropical zone — yes, 100 percent, insurance costs are going up for these operations,” said Kathy Baughman McLeod, senior vice president of the Atlantic Council and director of the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center.

And it’s no longer just hurricanes or weather on the Gulf Coast that refineries and their insurance companies have to worry about, said Steffen Halscheidt, global practice leader for oil and gas at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. Climate change is bringing new threats to plants all around the country.

“Surprisingly you have actually winter storms coming up with similar expense dimensions as proper hurricanes,” Halscheidt said in an interview.

Some refineries are also cutting back on gasoline production to meet shifting regulatory requirements. Phillips 66 and Marathon Petroleum both announced they will stop making gasoline at their California refineries and instead focus on renewable diesel.

The announcements were seen as ways for the companies to cope with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s pledge to phase out fossil fuels from the state’s vehicle fleet. The combined pressures of climate change, government policies focused on curbing emissions and forecasts for a shift to electric vehicles mean less incentive to keep the plants running,
said Andy Lipow, head of consulting firm Lipow Oil Associates.

“Our refining industry is getting older. It’s going on Medicare,” Lipow said. “You’re seeing demand going down in the U.S. … You need so much money, it’s easier to pull the plug. You shut down.”

The closures are a strong reversal for an industry that not long ago had poured billions
of dollars into refineries and feared it had overexpanded, said Stephen Brown, an energy consultant and former lobbyist for Tesoro Corp., a refining company that was bought by Marathon Petroleum in 2018. Bolstered by those investments, the United States in 2011 started exporting more fuel than it imported.

But now the drop in refining capacity has happened so rapidly that further shutdowns — temporary or otherwise — could cause prices to spike considerably as U.S. drivers have to compete with foreign markets for fuel.

“You add up a strong likelihood of a weather event taking off refineries on the Gulf Coast, or an earthquake in California — we’ll be at $7 bucks a gallon pretty quick,” Brown said in an interview.

Who is Susan Boyle? 

Early life and childhood
Boyle was raised in Blackburn, West Lothian.[18] Her father, Patrick Boyle, was a miner and veteran of the Second World War who also worked as a singer at the Bishop’s Blaize; her mother Bridget was a shorthand typist. Both her parents were born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, but also have family links to County Donegal in Ireland.[19][20] Born when her mother was 45 years old, Boyle was the youngest of four brothers and five sisters.[18] She was raised thinking that she had been briefly deprived of oxygen during a difficult birth resulting in a learning disability.[21] 
However, she was told in 2012–13 that she had been misdiagnosed and is on the 
Autism spectrum with an IQ “above average”.[22] Boyle says she was bullied as a child.[18][23] After leaving school with few qualifications,[18] Boyle took part in government training programmes,[20] and performed at local venues.[21]

Early musical training and career
Boyle took singing lessons from vocal coach Fred O’Neil.[18] She attended Edinburgh Acting School and took part in the Edinburgh Fringe.[21] She also long participated in her parish church’s pilgrimages to the Knock Shrine, County Mayo, Ireland, and sang there at the Marian basilica.[24]
In 1995, she auditioned for Michael Barrymore‘s My Kind of People.[21]
In 1998, Boyle recorded three tracks—”Cry Me a River“, “Killing Me Softly”, and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina“—at Heartbeat Studio, Midlothian.[25] She used all her savings to pay for a professionally cut demo, copies of which she later sent to record companies, radio talent competitions, local and national TV.
The demo consisted of her versions of “Cry Me a River” and “Killing Me Softly with His Song“; the songs were uploaded to the Internet after her BGT audition.[26]
In 1999, Boyle submitted a track for a charity CD to commemorate the Millennium[18][27] produced at a West Lothian school. Only 1,000 copies of the CD, Music for a Millennium Celebration, Sounds of West Lothian, were pressed.[citation needed] An early review by Amber McNaught in the West Lothian Herald & Post said Boyle’s rendition of “Cry Me a River” was “heartbreaking” and “had been on repeat in my CD player ever since I got this CD…”[28][29] The recording found its way onto the internet following her first televised appearance and the New York Post said it showed that Boyle was “not a one-trick pony.”[30] Hello! said the recording “cement[ed] her status” as a singing star.[31]
After Boyle won several local singing competitions, her mother urged her to enter Britain’s Got Talent and take the risk of singing in front of an audience larger than her parish church. Former coach O’Neil said Boyle abandoned an audition for The X Factor because she believed people were being chosen for their looks. She almost abandoned her plan to enter Britain’s Got Talent believing she was too old, but O’Neil persuaded her to audition nevertheless.[32] Boyle said that she was motivated to seek a musical career to pay tribute to her mother.[18] Her performance on the show was the first time she had sung in public since her mother died.[33][34]

Britain’s Got Talent (2008–2009)

In August 2008, Boyle applied for an audition for the third series of Britain’s Got Talent (as contestant number 43212) and was accepted after a preliminary audition in Glasgow. When Boyle first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent at the city’s Clyde Auditorium, she said that she aspired to become a professional singer “as successful as Elaine Paige“.[35] Boyle sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables in the first round, which was watched by over 10 million viewers when it aired on 11 April 2009.[36] Program judge Amanda Holden remarked upon the audience’s initially
cynical attitude, and the subsequent “biggest wake-up call” upon hearing her performance.[37]

Boyle was “absolutely gobsmacked” by the strength of the reaction to her appearance.[38] Afterwards, Paige expressed interest in singing a duet with Boyle,[35] and called her “a role model for everyone who has a dream”.[39] Boyle’s rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” was credited with causing a surge in ticket sales in the Vancouver production of Les Misérables.[40][41] Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of the musical, also praised the performance, as “heart-touching, thrilling and uplifting”.[36]

Boyle was one of 40 acts that were put through to the semi-finals.[42] 
She appeared last on the first semi-final on 24 May 2009, performing “Memory” from the musical Cats.[43] In the public vote, she was the act to receive the highest number of votes to go through to the final.[44] She was the clear favourite to win the final,[45] but ended up in second place to dance troupe Diversity; the UK TV audience was a record of 17.3 million viewers.[46]
The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) became concerned by press reports about Boyle’s erratic behaviour and speculation about her mental condition and wrote to remind editors about clause 3 (privacy) of their code of press conduct.[45] The day after the final, Boyle was admitted to The Priory, a private psychiatric clinic in London,[46] Talkback Thames explained, “Following Saturday night’s show, Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained.” Her stay in hospital attracted widespread attention, with Prime Minister Gordon Brown wishing her well.[47] Simon Cowell offered to waive Boyle’s contractual obligation to take part in the BGT tour. Her family said “she’s been battered non-stop for the last seven weeks and it has taken its toll […but…] her dream is very much alive”, as she had been invited to the Independence Day celebrations at the White House.[46]

Boyle left the clinic three days after her admission[48] and said she would participate in the BGT tour. Despite health concerns, she appeared in 20 of the 24 dates of the tour,[49] and was well received in cities including Aberdeen,[50] Edinburgh,[51] Dublin,[52] Sheffield,[53] Coventry,[54] and Birmingham.[55] The Belfast Telegraph stated that “Despite reports of crumbling under the pressure…, she exuded a confidence resembling that of a veteran who has been performing for years”.[56]

Boyle’s first album, I Dreamed a Dream, became the UK’s best-selling debut album of all time and set the record for biggest first-week sales by a debut album. Her second album, The Gift, topped charts in the UK and the US twice in 2010. So far, she has released eight studio albums, with the latest one, Ten, dropping in 2019.
After completing her Ten tour in the first weeks of March 2020, Susan retreated to isolation as the coronavirus spread like wildfire across the world. As a type-2 diabetic, Susan heeded advice to self-isolate as her condition put her at a greater risk of succumbing to the deadly virus.

Boyle has no plans to retire soon, however. She plans to emulate her idol Elaine Paige by singing well into her seventies. During her famous BGT audition, Boyle amused the crowd by stating that she wanted to emulate Paige. Few took her seriously, but as soon as the first notes came out of her mouth, none doubted that Elaine was destined for greatness.
“I love what I do and want to keep doing it so long as the public enjoys it,” Elaine told The Sun. “I’m going to hang on for dear life to what I do. I’ve not been able to do much. But that will change later, I’m always an optimist.”

Self-isolation was as tough on Susan as it was on everybody else.
“I’ve had days when I’ve felt low or stuck in a rut, or bored or staring at the same four walls – but everyone’s been in the same boat,” Susan added. In March 2021, Susan took a huge step towards returning to the stage by getting vaccinated.

She wrote on Instagram: “Monday felt for the first time like there was light at the end of the tunnel. There is so much disinformation surrounding the vaccine but I encourage you to go out and get the vaccine when it’s available to you. I am grateful for science, grateful for medicine and especially grateful to the wonderful NHS nurses and doctors.”
The specifics of Susan’s return remain unclear. However, a source speaking to The Sun mentioned that she was hoping to perform in the US in November. The source added that organizers had approached Boyle about performing in a string of shows in Las Vegas in late 2021. The source said:

“Susan is really excited to be asked and she is hoping to head over to the US in November to perform if she can. She has been holed up in Scotland during the pandemic but she is desperate to get back out there singing again. She loves working – and she could definitely be tempted by some sequins.”
Susan’s planned tour didn’t happen, but we hope to see her back soon.

DESPITE HER CONSIDERABLE WEALTH, SUSAN STILL LIVES IN HER FAMILY HOME IN WEST LOTHIAN, SCOTLAND
Two years before her BGT audition, Susan Boyle had lost her mom. She felt hopeless and devastated after the loss, but she later revealed that some sort of divine intervention involving her mom pushed her along during the competition. “I’m sure there was divine intervention involved,” Susan said. 
Boyle secretly panicked after she placed second in BGT. “I didn’t want to go back to my old life,” she told The Metro. “Then Simon [Cowell] came running up on stage and whispered into my ear that I had a recording contract no matter what and the panic gave way to exhaustion.” 
Susan quickly brushed off her BGT disappointment and delivered three chart-topping albums in three years. It took Boyle a while to get used to the sudden fame. “The biggest change was really the instant fame, from being a wee unknown lady with a cat in Scotland to being recognized wherever I went,” Boyle told People. “It took some getting used to.”
Boyle’s net worth skyrocketed into the millions as her albums achieved record sales. Nevertheless, she remained humble and grounded, unwilling to live life as most celebrities do. She still lives in her family home in Blackburn in West Lothian, Scotland.
“It’s good to be in your mum’s house as well, there’s a lot of nice memories in my mum’s,” Susan told The Sun. “I sort of feel she’s present here, somehow.” Susan doesn’t have a partner to share her house with. She’s been single for the past seven years. 

In 2009, Boyle famously revealed that she’d never been kissed. She met her first boyfriend, a Connecticut doctor, during the US leg of her 2014 tour, Susan Boyle in Concert. The pair met in Clearwater, Florida, and had planned to move in together in Scotland. 
“I hope he comes over,” Boyle told The Sun.
“All I’ll say is we are around the same age, and he was a very nice guy.”
Unfortunately, the relationship ended, and Susan has been single ever since.

Do you ever feel like you’re wearing too many layers?
I’m not talking about clothes.

I’m talking about the layers of masks & armor that we carry around.
-the energy, thoughts, emotions, stories, & protection mechanisms we hold onto.

It’s the thoughts that tell you to close yourself off, because people will only hurt you.
The stories that tell you not to take the chance, because you’ll probably just fail anyway.

The same force that drives you to slam on the breaks when you see an accident coming
– your body’s way of protecting itself.

I used to never smile with my mouth open, because I was self-conscious of my teeth.
I used to never sing in front of other people, because I was afraid of being bad.

I had a mask blocking my expression because I was afraid of being judged.
I was trying to protect myself from embarrassment or insecurity.

But you know what I was doing instead?

Imposing that very same judgement I was trying to avoid, on myself.

Doesn’t it get heavy?

We are not presently living our lives when we’re in survival mode.
We are energetic beings, & it is in our nature to always be giving & receiving energy.

But we’re not meant to hold on.
This is not a journey of collecting layers to carry with you.

We’re meant to experience the present, learn & grow from, & continue moving forward while always letting go. Because whether you realize it or not, you are on a path that is unfolding just for you.

TO WHOM ARE YOU LISTENING?
“A wise man will hear and will increase learning; and a man
of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels” (Proverbs 1:5). KJV
Loved ones, life is full of decisions that do not have absolute, specific-by-name,
how-to directions in the Bible.
For example: How many hours a day should my children spend
on screens? Where should the family go for vacation?
Is it wise to go on a date with a coworker?
We all have notions about the truth, but how do we know for sure that
these ideas are coming from God? Am I hearing God? Or am I only hearing myself? 
Worse yet, am I hearing the temptations of Satan disguised as the leading of
the Holy Spirit?

Sometimes distinguishing our own ideas from God’s leading is difficult.
What if our urges are actually coming from the enemy of our souls and not from God? Remember, the prophet said, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). 
How do we bring “into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”? 
(2 Corinthians 10:5) when we aren’t sure where the thoughts are coming from?
Friends, God communicates His will to mankind through the Bible, His inspired Word 
(2 Timothy 3:16-17). Through the divine providence of God, He has preserved the 66 books of the Bible throughout the centuries for man’s perfection. It is through the Word that we are sanctified (John 17:17),  and the Word is the light for our path (Psalm 119:105).
Again, through His sovereign providence, God also guides us through circumstances 
(2 Corinthians 2:12) and godly mentors providing wise counsel (Proverbs 12:15).

When God wants to speak to us, nothing can stop Him.

Here are some ways to discern the source of our thoughts:
If we are confused about whether or not we are hearing God,
it is good to pray for wisdom (James 1:5).

[It’s good to pray for wisdom even when we don’t think we’re confused!]
We should ask God to make His will clearly know to us.
When we pray, we “must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts
is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6).
If we have no faith, we “should not expect to receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:7).
Talk to God in prayer and earnestly wait for His answer.
However, keep in mind that God doesn’t give us everything we desire,
and sometimes His answer is, “wait” (Psalm 27:14)  or “No.” 
He knows what we need at any given time, and He will show us what is best. If God says, “No,” then we can thank Him for the clarity of His direction and move on from there.

Study the Word
The Bible is called “God’s Word” for a reason—it is the way God speaks to us.
It is also the way we learn about God’s character and His dealings with people throughout history. All Scripture is “breathed out (inspired) by God” and is the guide for a righteous life (2 Timothy 3:16–17). While we speak to God in prayer, He speaks to us through His Word. As we read, we must consider the words of the Bible to be the very words of God 
(1 Thessalonians 2:13).
Any thought, desire, inclination, or urge we may have must be brought to the Word of God for comparison and approval. Let the Bible be the judge of every thought. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to divide soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.
No matter how urgent the urge, if it goes against what Scripture says,
then it is not of God and must be rejected.  (Hebrews 4:12).

Follow the Holy Spirit’s Leading
Paul wrote, “This I say then, walk in the Spirit,
and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).  
The Holy Spirit is God (deity) — a divine Being with the Father and the Son. 
He has a mind, emotions, and will. He is the source of God’s word and uses it as His SWORD (Ephesians 6:17).
He is always with us (Psalm 139:7–12) and intercedes for us in prayer (Romans 8:26–27).
The Holy Spirit wills to fill us (Ephesians 5:18) and
produce in us His fruit (Galatians 5:22–25). 
 No matter what decisions we’re making day to day,
we can’t go wrong when we exhibit love, joy, peace, etc., to the glory of God.
When we have a random thought pop into our heads, we must learn to “test the spirits” 
(1 John 4:1). Will following this inclination lead to more Christlikeness? 

Will dwelling on this thought produce more of the fruit of the Spirit in me?
The Holy Spirit will never lead us to gratify the sinful desires of the flesh; He will always lead us toward sanctification (1 Peter 1:2). Life on earth is a spiritual battle. The enemy is eager to supply diversions to distract us from God’s will (1 Peter 5:8).  We must be vigilant to ensure that what we heed is more than a feeling but is truly from God Himself.
Remember, God wants to show us the right path to take.
He’s not in the business of hiding His will from those who seek Him. 
However, as in the days of Jeremiah, many people are refusing to walk
in the Old Paths of God (Jeremiah 6:16).
Here are some good questions to ask as we examine whether or not we are hearing God: Are the promptings confusing or vague? 
God is not the author of confusion; He is the bringer of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33).
Do the thoughts of your heart go against God’s Word? God will not contradict Himself.

Will following these promptings lead to sin? 
Those who “keep in step with the Spirit” have “crucified the flesh
with its passions and desires” (Galatians 5:24–25).
In addition, it is good to seek counsel from a friend, family member, preacher, or elder (Proverbs 15:22). Our pastors are there to help shepherd us: “Obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you” (Hebrews 13:17).
God does not want us to fail. The more we listen to God, the better we will be at distinguishing His voice from the other noises in our heads. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, gives His promise: “He goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice” (John 10:4). 
Others may speak, “but the sheep do not listen to them” (vs 5.  😎 .
You can know the Lord as your shepherd by: Accepting His leadership over your life. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).
The better we know our Shepherd, the less we will give heed to the wrong voice.

When Bad Things Happen in Your Life
I just finished re-listening to Job 37-42. 
It is a fascinating section of scripture for a couple of reasons. 
First, if you listen or read it as is, you see Who is actually speaking to Job.
Many believe it is God the Father, but in reality, it is Jesus who is speaking. 

Second thing is the dialogue He is laying out to Job. It is all about how He made everything work together in creation, and how He has control over it all.
That includes Job’s entire situation also.
I’m sure Job, like many of us, had no idea why the horrible things were suddenly failing at his feet. Most people who only experience a loss of one child curse God, or if they lose their biggest client at their job they curse God, or get sick with a bad case of the flu even speak out against God. But Job lost all his children, his livelihood/business, and his health was stripped from him all in the same day. Even his own wife told Job he should curse God and die.
How could Job, a righteous man of God, not question what he had done to deserve all this. But through all of this he didn’t curse God, nor blame Him. In fact, Job sought counsel from friends to see if he had done something wrong so he could repent because he didn’t understand why these things were happening to him. Job however “held fast to what he had” which at this point was his faith, and Jesus rewarded him with twice the number of possessions than he had before.

I really think Job’s experience is essential to our walk with God because it reminds us when bad things come into our lives that God is still in control, and if we can persevere through the hardship until the very end He will reward us greatly.
Not just in physical things, but also eternal things.
Psalm 45:6-7 KJV “Your throne O God, is forever and ever; …
5Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s foes; the nations fall beneath your feet. 
6Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom. 
7You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God,
has anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy.…

A scepter of righteousness is a scepter of your kingdom.” (We hear remarks today like, “religion is out of date. Morality is different and we don’t need what some deem superstition of religious belief in a post-modern world.” Well if religion is on the decline, (the kind revealed in the scripture) just listen to the news and tell me how that’s working out for us? And don’t tell me, “Most wars are started by religion.” It is not the religion of the Bible and Christ but the false kind Satan substitutes for the real.

No, we serve an eternal God who has a plan for this world and our lives if we will follow Him. His kingdom does not have a shelf life on it. It is forever and will continue through all eternity. His words will not change. It is the source of light and life we need in this present world. His moral law is forever. Jesus said, “From the beginning, God created them male and female. No misguided and spiritually blinded government celebrating sin will ever change God’s moral law. The church is eternal. It will merge into eternity in heaven and the gates of Hell will not stop it.

Finally, the same God who revealed Himself in the Bible can be real in your life today.
If you don’t have Him in your life, you are empty inside and have nothing to look forward to except this temporal world which will all pass away, then eternal separation from Him. The same gospel the early church preached can be real in anyone’s life and can be a source of salvation to people who repent of sin, believe in what Christ did for them on the cross and trust Him as their Lord and Saviour.
I am so happy I serve an eternal God. He is much bigger than my puny thinking.
When I get into His eternal book and receive His eternal salvation I can glory in
His eternal plan and purpose for my life. 

(To ignore it is the greatest mistake anyone can make.)

Beware of what you post online and share with others.
When we as followers of Jesus Christ post worldly topics and concerns on our pages,
we not only take our focus off of Christ and His message, but we become a distraction
and a stumbling block to others in the faith as well. We cause others to focus on the lawlessness in this world and in return it causes their love to grow cold. 
Jesus warned us of both of these things in His teachings.

Matthew 18:6
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,
it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and
to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Matthew 24:12-13
Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.
But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
If you are truly trying to do good, then stop distracting others from
the Kingdom of Heaven’s work which is sharing the good news.

Many researchers believe that education level is less important in maintaining a healthy brain than the habit of staying mentally active as you age. In one study, mentally intact people in their 70s and 80s were asked how often they did six activities that required active mental engagement-reading, writing, doing crossword puzzles, playing board or card games, engaging in group discussions, and playing music. 
In the following five years, those who placed in the highest third in terms of how often
they engaged in mentally stimulating activities were half as likely to develop mild cognitive impairment as those in the lowest third.  Agreed. And if you “we” stop learning and taking in new things, you may be more at risk for cognitive decline. An earlier report found a similar link between brain-stretching activities and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s.

Personally speaking, I am pleasantly surprised at how I can still discover music
that can inspire and hit me just as hard as it did when I was younger.

One Key Question Ask Often:
What is the best water source one can drink to stay healthy or ward off cancer?
This is a good question considering the different regions of the United States have
various degrees in Quality Water. At my home here in Ohio I have well water with
a high iron content. 

Excess iron in your water can increase your risk of cancer.
Studies have shown iron can damage DNA and promote the growth of cancer cells.
Also, High levels of iron in the body can increase your risk of infections. Iron is an essential nutrient for bacteria, and high iron levels can help bacteria grow and spread. 
Iron has been suggested as a risk factor for different types of cancers mainly due to its prooxidant activity, which can lead to oxidative DNA damage.

Subjects with hemochromatosis or iron overload have been shown to have a higher risk
of developing liver cancer. There were 59 systematically reviewed epidemiologic studies,
linking iron and cancer published between 1995 and 2012, reporting information on total
iron, dietary iron, heme iron, and biomarkers of iron status and cancer risk. 
Furthermore, they conducted meta-analysis for colorectal [relative risk (RR), 1.08;
95% confidence interval (CI), 1.00-1.17], colon (RR = 1.12; 95% CI, 1.03-1.22), breast
(RR = 1.03; 95% CI, 0.97-1.09), and lung cancer (RR = 1.12; 95% CI, 0.98-1.29),
for an increase of 1 mg/day of heme iron intake.

Globally, on the basis of the systematic review and the meta-analysis results, a higher intake of heme iron has shown a tendency toward a positive association with cancer risk. Evidence regarding high levels of biomarkers of iron stores (mostly with serum ferritin) suggests a negative effect toward cancer risk.
More prospective studies combining research on dietary iron intake, iron biomarkers, genetic susceptibility, and other relevant factors need to be conducted to clarify these findings and better understand the role of iron in cancer development.

When you get on the internet you read a lot of misinformation. 
And many of the testing videos show misguided test results due in part to incorrect methods of testing. I come from a 100% non-biased place when I say that anything that goes from around having 10pH-12pH is considered strongly alkaline and mild hazard to drink. Anything above 12pH is caustic and is a hazard to drink. So, also when comparing Essentia & Alkaline 88, it seems like Alkaline 88 is safer to drink as it does not contain harsh chemicals, which are found in Essentia.

I highly DO NOT recommend Essentia water which is high PH because they add Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda which is not healthy to drink in high quantities or on a regular basis. Check your water’s ingredients don’t be tricked by high pH when they add chemicals to make it so.  Some tests state Purified water (by reverse osmosis), sodium bicarbonate, dipotassium phosphate, magnesium sulfate and calcium chloride, electrolytes (for taste).

Contradiction: I started giggling to myself before she got to the Essentia because
I KNEW it was going to blow all the other waters away like it ALWAYS does in test.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again Essentia water is the ONLY water worth money.

I refill my gallon bottles through them. Curious to see what the PH is in that water is.

Glacier Water We apologize for the delay in responding. Glacier Water units are
connected to an approved water source that meets all state and federal standards.
The pH level from this incoming source water is reduced by Glacier Water’s reverse osmosis system by approximately 1-2 pH units and usually ranges from high 5 pH
to low 7 pH as is typical for reverse osmosis water.

Rhonda Burroughs I usually add a tablespoon of baking soda to the 5-gallon jug,
but I tested the Glacier brand I buy in the machine with a pool test kit & the pH
came in the range of 7.2-7.4 so that is excellent

Abdel Rahman El Gendy the PH level is 4 and it is acidic as hell. I tested the water myself.

Is Glacier water that is purchased out of vending machines fluoridated?
Not unless it says “Fluoride” somewhere on the bottle. If it is truly spring or glacier water, it has no fluoride added naturally. If you’re asking about the “Glacier” branded vending machines found outside of supermarkets, they do not dispense water from glaciers.
They are connected to municipal water supplies.
They use a multi-step purification process to purify the tap water.
One of the steps in their purification process is reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis can be effective in removing fluoride from water. It’s likely that some percentage of the fluoride added to municipal water supplies will remain. How large a percentage depends on the type of membrane used in the process.

ALL the tests I see both are close to yellowish color.
They’re always the last brands left in stores 😂 even during the pandemic.
It’s not BAD for you to drink water between 7 and 10. It’s actually the best thing for you if you’re trying to be healthy or fight cancer. Your body is constantly fighting between being acidic and alkaline. When the fight is lost; disease, diabetes, cancer and deterioration begin.
Some people through their genetic make-up have to play the hand they’re dealt regardless of their life choices but through drinking and eating on the alkaline scale (greater than 7) you can stop, fight or prevent your body from disease.

Although being TOO alkaline could definitely be a problem, the thing is that it’s very hard to be too alkaline in this day and age where there are toxins and pollutants everywhere, making us acidic. We are only trying to buffer and neutralize the acidity and bring our body to a more balanced state. Plus, a lot of the food we eat is acidic (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), as long as we keep our bodies balanced by doing things that produce alkalinity and thus help buffer the acidity and keep it in check.

I recently found out that purified water is bad for you because it has been filtered, taking away all of the essential minerals in the water. When you drink purified water, the water will naturally try to cling to any minerals that it can find. So, when you drink it, the water is pulling all the minerals from your body.
That is why you sometimes feel thirsty and “dry” after drinking purified water.
It is good to drink spring, glacier, or artesian water that is naturally infused with minerals, so that your body is being restored with the nutrients that it needs. Stay away from Smart water, Essentia, Dasani, Aquafina, or any water that says “purified.”
When testing water watch to see if they blow with a straw in the water.
One lady did this and it showed how the Body Armor watercolor faded after she did so.
Well part of the test should include oxidation to find the true pH. You would have to get
a straw and blow into the water for it to oxidize and find the real pH.

Otherwise, it’s King 0f misleading data. 👑

Good experiment, but you kind of blew it by saying: “it’s very alkaline thus I recommend drinking it”. Not every alkaline water is good to drink; they are kept alkaline with added chemicals + the fact that those bottled waters have preservatives so that they don’t go bad after a day or two.
