“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1.

Time is actually a created entity. The first verse of the Bible reads: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, emphasis added). A study of this verse reveals that God created time, space, and matter on the first day of Creation Week.

None of these can have a meaningful existence without the others.  God created the space-mass-time universe. Space and matter must exist in time, and time requires space and matter. Time is only meaningful if physical entities exist and events transpire during time.

This is something humans, as finite created beings, can never really understand. That’s why the Bible makes it clear there is always a “faith” aspect to our understanding of God. Now, biblical faith is not against reason, but such things go beyond our understanding.“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

In Psalm 90:2 we read: “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” So what was “before” creation? God existing from everlasting to everlasting—God existing in eternity.

Do you remember what God said to Moses when he asked God who he should say sent him to lead his people out of Egypt’s oppression?

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you”’” (Exodus 3:14). God is the great “I AM.” He exists in eternity. He was not created. In Revelation 1:8 we read, “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’”

One final point: Nowhere in the Bible do we find any suggestion of millions or billions of years. Belief in millions of years is really part of secular man’s religion, which attempts to explain life without God, instead of believing the true account of origins in Genesis that begins “In the beginning . . . .” Our ability to trust God’s promise of salvation relies upon our ability to trust everything He says about history, from beginning to end. If we can’t trust His claims about the past, how can we trust His promises about the future?

Thankfully, we serve a God we can trust in every detail. Though He is beyond space and time, He humbled Himself to become a man and die on the Cross for our sins. He also has given us a record of this history in His Word. So that we can know it’s really true.

Why Was Jesus Crucified?

There are several answers to why Jesus was crucified, from those involving practical, human, and political concerns to the divine.

First, Jesus was crucified—nailed to a cross to die—because that was the way the Roman government typically handled public executions of non-Romans. The NIV Study Bible explains that “only slaves, the basest of criminals, and offenders who were not Roman citizens were executed in this manner” and noted the prisoners were tied to a stake or cross, then heavy wrought-iron nails were driven through their wrists and heel bones.  As Jesus was a non-Roman who brought considerable civil unrest to Jerusalem and whose leaders specifically petitioned the Roman leaders to execute him, this was not a surprising manner of execution Jesus was condemned to receive.

As for why the Roman government agreed to crucify—or otherwise execute—Jesus, that seems rooted in politics and popularity. After Jesus’ arrest, the religious leaders led him to the governor, Pilate, who questioned him. Luke’s Gospel tells us Pilate then called the religious leaders and people together and said, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. Therefore, I will punish him and then release him” (Luke 23:14-16).

The people disagreed, calling for Jesus’ execution, so Pilate complied. There are various reasons why he ordered the crucifixion.

 Mark 15:15 says it’s because Pilate was “wanting to satisfy the crowd.” Matthew indicates an uproar was starting over Pilate’s indecision, so he did what they asked. In fact, Matthew tells us, Pilate “took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. ‘I am innocent of this man’s blood,’ he said. ‘It is your responsibility!’” (Matthew 27:24). Whether because of political pressure or crowd control, Pilate did what the people wanted.

And bottom line, from a human perspective, Jesus was crucified because people didn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God. But the deeper “why” is why God would allow His only Son to be crucified:

Why was this part of God’s plan? Couldn’t Jesus’ message have been communicated just the same without the crucifixion? Did He really need to be crucified, or executed at all?

The short answer: God, who is good, had a plan to save an otherwise lost people through Jesus, and Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are all a part of that plan on many different levels. Another aspect to consider is that Jesus had to die in order to be resurrected.

And indeed, the resurrection is everything.

What Does the Bible Say about Jesus’ Crucifixion?

All four Gospel accounts—Matthew (27:32-56), Mark (15:21-41), Luke (23:26-49), and John (19:17-37)—tell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and death. As Matthew recounts, “They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: This is Jesus, the king of the Jews” (Matthew 27:33-37).He was crucified with two criminals, the accounts detail, one on his right and the other on his left, and people mocked and insulted him all afternoon. “From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land,” Matthew’s account continues.

“About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’)” (Matthew 27:45-46). The people thought Jesus was calling for Elijah. They fetched wine vinegar on a sponge and offered it to Jesus on a long stick. Then, the Gospel of Matthew continues, “When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life” (Matthew 27:50-52). All four accounts are roughly the same as to what happened, though there are some differences in tone, details, and what was said. For example, in John’s account, Jesus gives over his mother to the care of his “beloved disciple” (John 19:25-27), but this is not mentioned in the other accounts. Still, the basics of the story match in all Gospel accounts.   

How Does Jesus’ Crucified Life Give Meaning to My Life?

In John 1:29, Jesus is called “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” Throughout the Old Testament, animals, particularly lambs, were often sacrificed to God as a thank you, as payment for sin, as an acknowledgment of His mighty power, and more. But our sins are great, and there is nothing we can do to earn a place in heaven. There is also no sacrifice we can make great enough to achieve this. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins,  Hebrews 10:4 tells us, nor do they please God.

But Jesus took our place as the sacrifice. “And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all,” Hebrews 10:10 says. That “once for all” concept is significant. Day after day, priests offer blood sacrifices for sins. Jesus, however, is a different kind of priest. “When this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.

For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy” (Hebrews 10:12-14). The apostle Paul explains in his letter to the Romans that all receive redemption for our sins in Jesus. His blood was shed on our behalf, as Paul explains, effectively paying our sin-debt. “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.

He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus” (Romans 3:25-26). All of this means that when we choose Jesus, when we believe in Him and follow His way, our sins are washed away. Jesus himself explains this great gift to the people in John 3 when He says, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him” (John 3:14-15). The chapter goes on to explain how God loved the world so much that He sacrificed His only Son for them so they could be saved and have eternal life.

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18). Jesus is the path to heaven. He died as a sacrifice for us. For our lives, this means our faith in following Jesus ensures that the death of our earthly bodies is not the end.

We get to continue on forever in the spiritual realm with the Father.  Jesus’ crucifixion can be upsetting and difficult to comprehend. But we have faith that His death was part of God’s plan, one piece in the grand puzzle of God’s design. God’s own Son—in essence, God Himself, the “Word become flesh” (John 1:14)—willingly chose to die for us. Then He was resurrected. And one day, if we believe, we too will be resurrected and live forever with Him.

The assumption that spending more of the taxpayers’ money will make things better has survived all kinds of evidence that it has made things worse.

The New Deal era was the most prosperous time in our history when our middle-class was the strongest Social Security? Hasn’t made things worse. Vaccines? Haven’t made things worse. Medicare? Hasn’t made things worse. Affordable Care Act? Hasn’t made things worse. There is such a thing as wasteful spending, but lots of good things have helped people from the government. Every single thing you’ve mentioned has done irreparable harm to the American taxpayer! I’m not even sure you’ve researched this. I wouldn’t know where to begin. All of these things are riddled with corruption, murder and payoffs.

Social security is going broke and doesn’t pay nearly what it used to. Gov’t intervention in the health care system destroyed it… people used to only need insurance for critical care. Vaccines have been around long before gov’t intervention, and were cheaper. Not to mention , the medical field charges a huge mark up because they know insurance and or the government will foot the bill. Also people selling supplies to the medical field do the same thing.   It seems as though healthcare is shamefully unaffordable since the “affordable” healthcare act was passed. Each was a Ponzi scheme that was going broke since day one. The selfish people are ok with taking what they can get out of it and not caring about those who come later, like you, never learn and never care. Gimme Gimme Gimme!

You obviously don’t work in the healthcare industry — Medicare and the affordable care act have absolutely made things WORSE…
America is broke and we continue to give billions in taxpayers money to foreign countries and it has to end. The ACA absolutely did make things worse. Anyone with private insurance through an employer now pays twice as much for coverage and 100% of all costs only after a $5,000 deductible is met, then 20%. $70,000 hospital stay used to be covered 100% now you pay $14,000 MUCH WORSE!

Don’t blame the ACA on that. Insurers are having a field day.

Our health system sucks. Our access to good care is the worst in the developed world. That’s not from the ACA…You most CERTAINLY can blame Obamacare. And those who were forced to buy into the ACA found that it was also unaffordable. It should have been called the Unaffordable Uncaring Act! The government collects so much in taxes. It can solve problems and make good investments at times like the investments that created the internet and building the suburbs. Millions of jobs, careers and wealth creation in America would not have happened w/out these fed govt investments. That doesn’t take into account the opportunity costs of all the jobs, careers, and wealth creation that would have happened with the money in private hands if it hadn’t been extracted in taxes.

Private business cannot risk large scale losses.
This is why the fed gov’t researches too many drugs to count b4 big pharma steps in to profit. No private entity could have started the internet or built the suburbs w/out the fed gov’t. #factsonly You are absolutely delusional. Go watch “Men Who Built America”, so you learn at least something about your own country’s history. It was the private sector in the 19th century, who put the USA on the path to catch up with the rest of the world. In the early 20th century, tax rates were about 70%. After the war, depression, the federal gov’t built the national highway system and the suburbs so today’s grandparents could buy a first home and start passing wealth down.

This is when the majority moved from inner cities, rural areas.

So spending money on the Covid vaccine during a pandemic is making things worse?
Sometimes the government needs to spend money. Making a blanket statement like this is kind of ridiculous. Again, distilling the point down to a precise, articulate, and succinct statement that captures the essence of the issue without invective or hyperbole. Again, much respect.

Combined interests vs diffuse interests.
Some say, “We together will raid the treasury.” They join together (51%) under any guise & loot away. Others say, “I’ll just mind my own business.” They prosper. Until too many of the former group send cities and nations into decay.
Shifting money, resources, and power from the poor- middle class to elite conservatives is what makes things worse. Infinitely worse.
Just giving everyone tax breaks doesn’t fix many problems either… I just wish that our Government, 20 or 30 years ago, had realized it, & kept it in mind that.. “Facts & Feelings are 2 different things”.. maybe tax money would have gotten spent just a little better?

It’s all about the fallacy of composition where in gov spending is said to be beneficial to the economy,as the money is spent and re-spent, creating jobs, raising incomes while generating tax in process.but usually the same money if had remained in taxpayers hands it would have done the same. The assumption that government spending is automatically bad is the second stupidest thing about communism.

The death of the Weimar Republic was the nonexistent social spending. The resurrection of the USA was the New Deal. Stop saying ‘evidence’ when you don’t have any. We are governed by a ship of fools who ignore your simple truth. In the end, it is not about truth but power.

It’s not the money itself but how it is spent. We have a failing infrastructure and are not prepared for worst case scenarios. Pork in important bills has to go. People need to make their own way, they will be proud when they do. I believe in hand up, not handouts. However, some will pocket a handful without doing squat. If you have run ANY kind of business, big or small, you know that throwing money at a problem never fixes it…..NEVER!!! We are spending the unborn taxpayers’ money though?

I’m a big Thomas Sowell fan. However the U.S. Government has the constitutional authority to create new money by spending. Then bring that money back out of the economy through taxation if the new money causes inflation. I’m questioning the term “taxpayer money”. Thoughts?

America generates trillions each year from the taxes we already pay. The government doesn’t have an income problem, it has a spending problem. No one should have to pay any additional taxes because we will never see any benefit from it. You need to end it with and who will pay for it, pretty much think it is a credit card, it helps to think that also there is the same assumption that it won’t do bad to you except when you’re broke and can’t pay it back.

What a total ungodly waste of money…. It’s not climate change that is going to murder us off – it’s the progressive cure that is consistent with their belief that there r too many people using their planet.. Abortion murders are not enough for them so they need a destroyed economy. Umm I think they are spending more than taxpayers money.

One would think after the accumulation of a $30 trillion #NationalDebt to “make things better,” that a new business model should be tried.
And the tax dollars are never used efficiently or effectively. They end up lining the wrong pockets. I am old enough to remember when the government spending several million dollars was big news… A LOT of the spending is from rich f#cks buying debt, so they can become rich. That is the Democrat’s entire raison d’Etat. Yeah you can’t spend your way to prosperity…

Democrats don’t care about that. Spending more of taxpayers’ money will make Democrats seizing total power easier and that’s literally all they actually care about. Democrats always spend us into recessions. Obama ruined the biz economy under his tenure. Democrats lack financial, fiscal, intelligence. Just look at every major democratic city. It says everything right there. No country has ever taxed themselves into prosperity. Life isn’t predictable. Enjoy each special moment as it happens. Mindfulness is a pattern of living that brings joy day to day and moment to moment.

Whether you want to believe it or not they are coming for us. They can’t have people who love America and freedom be roaming around spreading freedom which is now considered wrong. The communists hate what we believe in, Which is civil liberty for all people. We are targets, and we can’t rely on anyone in government to stand up for us. They want to do away with us. We will have to decide if we are willing to give in or if we will fight for our freedom. “They” have worked so hard, bought so many, and are so close to toppling the government. Two teenage girls have been charged with murder after they stunned an Uber Eats driver with a Taser, attempted to carjack him, then crashed the vehicle and killed him, according to DC police. The girls, 13 and 15, were charged in family court with felony murder while armed, second-degree murder while armed, carjacking, and reckless driving, according to ABC7. One was also charged with possession of a Taser. A DC homicide detective testified in family court that one of the girls said the pair had agreed in advance to meet up at a Metro station and do a carjacking together, ABC 7 reported.

Since the girls are being charged as juveniles, their names and personal information remain private. The victim was 66-year-old Mohammad Anwar. A GoFundMe page set up by his family described him as “a hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family.” The page added that Anwar had been making an Uber Eats delivery when the deadly attack occurred.

Filmed by a bystander, a highly disturbing video circulating online appeared to show the lead-up to and aftermath of the crash. Anwar could be seen struggling with the girls, who were seated in the driver and passenger seats, as he tried to get back in his car. Anwar and other bystanders could be heard yelling that the girls were trying to steal the vehicle. At one point, the car suddenly zoomed down the street, with Anwar hanging out of the driver’s side door, clinging to the frame.

The car then crashed at the end of the street and flipped onto its side.

Though the girls could be seen climbing out of the capsized car through the passenger-side door, Anwar appeared to have been thrown several feet and was laying face-down on the sidewalk. National Guard members could be seen helping the girls out of the car while a bystander, who appeared to be filming the crime, yelled that they had been stealing the vehicle. The DC police said paramedics soon arrived at the scene and brought Anwar to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
