Invisible Illness

“When you want something, the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” http://www.supersoul.tv/supersoul-sunday/paulo-coelho-why-the-universe-is-conspiring-to-help-you
The famous author Paulo Coelho said, “There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever you want it is all about you, when you really want something, it’s because that desire has originated in the sound of the universe….  The soul of the world is nourished by people’s happiness.”

When you don’t see the positive aspects of your life that is when you start going blind! 👀🙈

If you seek great things in life, you become great.
.

When you seek mean things in life, you become mean.

When you seek ordinary things in life, you become ordinary.

When you desire something, it means that there is something in you that makes you like that thing. It means that there is something similar between what you are and what you are seeking.

Rumi quote: “What you seek, is seeking you”

Taking youthfulness as an example, you need to develop a youthful and vital mindset first. That will then attract the bodily energy, the love of life, the situations in which you feel alive, and that will all contribute to an aura of youthfulness and vitality around you. You think the thoughts first and then everything else follows. For instance:

I am young and full of life
I love life and life loves me
I am full of the joys of life
I am very much alive
I am grateful for the life I now have
Life is opening up for me
I have so much going for me
I am very happy now
Healthy Thoughts Bring Good health

Feed your mind with these kinds of thoughts, until they become your dominant thinking, and you will be delighted at what starts happening in your life as a result.
I have had the opportunity to sit with many individuals who are seeking to be something. Some are seeking a deeper understanding of spirit, some are seeking a better job or different job, some are seeking better health, and  list goes on.  We are all seeking something.  Have you ever wondered what you are seeking? Or asked, what is seeking me right now?  We love opportunities to grow and be bigger than what we know. That is why when we aren’t seeking anything, we take what is happening in our lives and create problems where there is no problems what so ever.
IN LIFE Since there is only light and light is energy, then light seeks more of itself. It has no limits or lack.  When we seek something, more then likely, we are ready to blast off into the unknown.  Something deep  inside you is willing to be willing to blast off and explore the far reaches of the light.  When we see light, and really look at it, we may say,” If this light is me, where is the past? future? and myself?”  So I explained, here is light, as I pointed to a lamp in the room, “Do you see the light? Do you see it?” He shook his head yes.
“Okay, this light is you. Explain where the problem is. You have told me with great excitement that you are old. And yet I am asking you to just breath and see the light. Not as some spiritual thing, just see it. Science and quantum physics have suggested …. that we are energy; if that is the case then this light is who we are. But we only see the physical, right? We aren’t conditioned to dwell in the light. We are conditioned to dwell in the senses and only see the physical world as real. Good.”
“Your desire is a desire from the heart. The heart already knows your true calling. That is why it is coming up now. You have everything you need to manifest it. Your mind will follow the hearts lead quicker. If the mind takes the lead then it has no foundation because the heart may not support it, do you see? We are not conditioned to follow our true desire, we are told desires are bad and to suppress them. As we suppress the desire, it manifests in other areas of our life.”

“Perfect. Do you see how what you were seeking was seeking you? And that “a list of people came to your mind”, your heart feeds the mind. The heart thinks in intuition. So intuitively it knows who to see without all kinds of effort.  So yes you will run into to obstacles, but you will be able to manage them because it is your hearts calling.  We all have a heart calling. When you find it, affirm it, then you are it. And you become unstoppable. The heart can handle anything. Anything.”

“YES that is awesome.”

“That is  kewl.”

“So Cool.”

As human beings, we want to be able to look at something (or someone) and be able to sum things up.

If they can see what is going on inside of us, they know the message to give us.

For example, if it is all in our head, then why would they need to search for the right words when we cancel our plans for the third time?

Sure, they want to fix it, to help us feel better, to change our outlook. Healthy people have a desire to be able to see what is wrong with us, so they can say, “oh-h-h, now I understand.”

They want to help. Few feel they can be of help until they know what is wrong.

Most illnesses aren’t completely invisible

Your illness may be invisible. No symptoms. None. But maybe not.

We have just become a society that looks the other way, rarely taking time to understand why a person hesitates before standing or who struggles to open the door at the store.

I notice many diseases now, as I have become more familiar with what “invisible symptoms” look like.

    • I see the way a woman who steps asks the cashier to open a jar of spaghetti sauce, so she can go home and make dinner for her family.
  • I see a child struggling to control himself and understand it could be the “H” (hyper)    in ADHD.
  • I see a man pause and fight for balance before stepping off a curb and I suspect he is concentrating on that simple step perhaps because of a stroke or a healing hip, or a recent back surgery.

They are not invisible. Even their pain or physical muscle weakness is not invisible.       And yet we call the diseases an “invisible illness.”

While the words “chronic illness” means long-term, the term “invisible illness” is more   apt to describe the overlapping relationship between us and another person. And most of that overlap of us and them may not include our illness, a big part of our reality, and thus, identity.

In the graphic image below, if you live with a disease that significantly impacts your average day, then you and I would be the teal color. The illness is red, and the friend is green. See what a small area the average friend may see of your life?  They see the tiny      bit of you when the illness isn’t at its worst.  And they see an even smaller part of you      and the illness when it flaring up.

We fight to have fun, we fight to recover afterwards, we fight to be a parent and then we fight to raise the children, we fight to get up and we fight to go to sleep… we fight to matter — to be something other than a person who is ill.

We feel like we need most people to know about our illness because it really is part of who we are.

If they don’t know about the fight, they don’t really know who we are — even though we wish it was different.

And this is why invisible illness is spoken of.

Many have a chronic illness.

But those of us who are talking about having an invisible illness wish for people to understand us — the real us — not just the shiny, smiling-on-the-outside-I’m-fine us.     We want people to see more than just the sliver.

Invisible illness is all about the relationship.

It is about how we are perceived. It is about how we are acknowledged, understood, explained, heard, interpreted, and rationalized.

It is about our hope that we can have the courage to become transparent enough to reveal the ill us. And then, have the real us validated — to be loved anyway. It is human instinct to look for acceptance.

We aren’t looking to be excused or exempt from the typical life.

We don’t want to be pitied or pardoned.

We want someone to say, “I see YOU… and I will do my best to be the me you need.”

And that is what every person desires.

… Those who live with invisible illnesses.

… Those who live with visible illnesses.

… And those who live without any illnesses.

Because you don’t know what the person beside you is fighting for.

So rather than waiting for someone to be what you need, start by being what someone   else needs.

Why do we say we have an “invisible illness”? Is it because we feel invisible to people?

Years ago the term “invisible illness” was rarely used. Before social media the opportunity to talk about your disease was relegated to a local support group and perhaps a caring friend or two. Illness was something you spoke to your doctor about… and that was all.

Asking, “Who am I with this illness?”

If you have a chronic condition you may have shared one of the many illness memes         on social media that attempt to explain  what it is like  to  live with constant pain.  The conversations that occur in blog comments or other platforms naturally take on an “us”  versus “them” mentality.

Unfortunately, this mentality, alongside some of the memes that are mean and sarcastic, can cause an even greater divide between us and the very people we wish to help understand our daily lives.

Why is there so much emphasis — and desire — to talk about what people think about our illness?

Regardless of what one’s illness may be, when one is speaking of their “invisible illness” odds are it is related to a relationship.

Our chronic illness is something we go to the doctor and discuss. Our chronic illness is what we treat with the medications and supplements. But our invisible illness is what affects how we deal with the world around us in regard to our body and its limitations.

    • We talk about how our relationships affect our illness. And we talk about how our illness affects our relationships.
  • We talk about marriage or dating relationships and how communication (or lack of) can make our illness worse. We talk about how support from a caring partner can help us cope so much better.
  • We talk about bosses and our co-workers and if they even know about our illness. We question if should or shouldn’t work, how much to tell a potential employer, and how to explain sick days to a supervisor.
  • We share our stories about our young kids, our teenage kids, our adult kids, our troubled kids. Some of us wonder, “Should I even have kids?” And we wonder how much our illness is messing up our kids.
  • We talk about our parents and if they believe we really are ill. We talk about caring    for our mom or our dad, because a day will come when we are expected to be their caregiver. And how will we do this when we can barely care for ourselves?
  • We talk about those occasional good days and how our friends now believe we are all healed and will have many more good days.

What does this have to do with our actual disease?

Regardless of your illness, it likely has many names. Chronic, degenerative, disabling, terminal, auto-immune, neurological, benign… and invisible. Severe Depression was my invisible illness back in 2006 others over looked?

When we say we have a “chronic illness,” we are specifying the length of time this illness is likely going to stick around.

But when we say we have an “invisible illness” we are describing a condition that is hidden to those who are around us. Which shouldn’t really matter. It shouldn’t really matter whether people can see our inflammation, stubborn confused cells, digestive issues, chemical imbalances, infections, blood sugar, or high blood pressure.

Because it’s still there even if it can’t be seen.

But for some reason — it does matter.

People want to help, but they don’t know how if they don’t understand what our battle is!!!!

Sometimes people with some kinds of invisible disabilities, such as chronic pain or some kind of sleep disorder,  or severe depression are often accused of faking or imagining their disabilities.  These symptoms can occur due to chronic illness, chronic pain, injury, birth disorders, etc. and are not always obvious to the onlooker. https://www.disabled-world.com/disability/types/invisible/

When People Starting to believe they realize they’re not just lucky they are blessed as well.👼🙏💯

The Force Within US

When I thought up a name for my website: “Solitarius came to mind because to me          it sounded like a compass giving people direction.” After I went to the shrine in Carey Ohio and prayed and received a vision for this website. Solitaire was a card game my father played regularly and I thought what a  “wonderful thing”  a source pulling out answers to cancer like a solitaire card game. ALSO some experts believe The Solitary nucleus in your brain is the area of the brain where emotions play out and influences your cells !!!  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solitary_nucleus

Which way are you going: in the field of computers what was up to date in the 1990’s     is irrelevant today. We no longer use floppy disc and now we use flash drives. Very few people use dial up  and  now everybody  is  high speed  and wireless.  However, what is annoying still  is when you lose our connection.  When this happens the inner  feeling is that you need guidance, direction, redirection and correction that will show us the way. We need that connection to have inner direction!!!

When we lose our way we are notorious for not asking for directions.  Similarity  “we feel” when we receive “Divisiveness” and “Misinformation.”  It will not change the outcome and the emotions  are creating too much negativity for our world and for you.  What is sent out comes back and will only hurt the sender in the end.  I would not like to see that happen to anyone. Most of you know negative emotions can even cause illnesses.  So please ease up.

Nothing  positive  ever  comes  from  being  negative. Whereas  Human Nature has us always looking at the negative.  For instance,  the catholic religion  had  848 priests  who raped or molested children and sanctioned another 2,572 with lesser penalties,  providing the first ever breakdown of  how it handled  the more than 3,400 cases of abuse reported to the Holy See since 2004.

In 2012, there were a total of 414,313 priests. While the total number of priests worldwide has remained  about the same since 1970,  While the Catholic population        has nearly doubled, growing from 653.6 million in 1970 to 1.229 billion in 2012. As a human race I tend to look at others and see goodness in the majority of priests!!!!

Therefore when we lose the map GOD intended us to follow. WE end… up on a dark winding back road feeling that your on a road to nowhere  (we all know that feeling… we      all have been there a few times in our life.)  The bible being the best seller of all time and the least read book of all time. Grants us direction through Scripture, as we learn several important calls to action.

First Thessalonians 5:1-11 tells us to wake up, First John 2:28-3:3 tells us to clean up; Romans 13:14 tells us to grow up; and Timothy 1:6 tells us to stir ourselves up. I believe those that successfully heal are those that listen to the call of actions. They also listen to their inner voice and the direction of those that whom come into there life tell them.
.
It is through your inner being of body, mind and spirit where true healing of the dis-ease takes place. One that heals I have noticed has a true self and knows deeply where the root of the disease comes from within their heart. A survivor have self esteem about themself.

Being focused means slowing down and entering fully embodied in the present moment and how do we do that.   According to Amos Clifford whom is a leading therapy expert and author of A Little Handbook of Shrin`rin-Yoku (that’s “forest bathing” in Japanese). As you’re walking there will  be beneficial changes to your nervous system.  These changes stem from a reduction in the stress hormone cortisol, an improved heart rate, and increase oxygen into your cells that bolster your immune function.
Studies show that a three-hour hike through a forest calms the body and mind for a week. These walks will connect us to our well being and also proves to be calming and peaceful to our spirit.  When we lose sight of the human element it gives one a chance       to listen to what your inner being is telling you about what is right for your spirit.  http://www.faithtap.com/7040/home-frees-breathtaking-version-of-how-great-thou-art/

Emotional Healing: Follow Your Gut

Image result for follow your emotions

Every emotion comes paired with an opposite.  Anxiety can’t exist without peace.  Fear can’t exist without courage. Sadness can’t exist without happiness. And helplessness can’t exist without it’s opposite, empowerment. When you experience only one-half of a pair of opposites (sadness  but  not happiness,  anxiety but not peace),  you remain stuck in your one-sided experience. http://theheartysoul.com/negative-feelings-cause-cancer/?t=DrM

Yet when you stop trying to rid yourself of your experience and instead open up to a full range of emotions, you can break through. Of course, suffering from something like severe anxiety is not easy. But this exercise can often provide the relief you need to realize actions that can help you feel empowered to make change.
With your eyes open or closed, welcome the environment and sounds around you.       Now, welcome an emotion that’s current in your body, or recall an emotion that you’re working with in your life. Also experiencing where and how you feel it in your body. Welcome your experience just as it is, without judging or trying to change it.
Next, think of an opposite of this emotion, noting where and how you experience this opposite in your body. IF HELPFUL, RECALL a memory that invites this opposite more fully in your body. Like the times you go on vacation an feel nothing but serenity. When      it feels right, move back and forth between these opposites, sensing how each emotion impacts your body, your mind and your spirit.
When you’re ready, open your eyes and return to a state of wakefulness, write down your reflections and intentions that you agree to follow through with in your daily life. Emotions are messengers that deliver empowering actions … so learn on them to find creative solutions and successfully navigate life.

“Let’s not forget that the little emotions are the great captains of our lives and we obey them without realizing it.” – Vincent Van Gogh

I recently watched this YouTube featuring neuroscientist Antonio Damasio talking      about patients who have suffered brain damage that affects their emotional capacity. The interesting thing is without any emotional impetus, Damasio’s patients found themselves paralyzed by decision-making, circling a decision without that emotional signpost helping them make a final landing — even with simple decisions about where to go for dinner or when to book an appointment!

Is it strange to say this finding came as a relief to me? So… it’s not only OK for decisions to be made based on emotion,  in fact  it’s essential!  So often people are criticized for making emotional decisions (I’m betting there isn’t a woman reading who hasn’t had that criticism thrown at them!). And we so often feel like our own decisions should come from a cold and logical place rather than an emotional place.  But,  it’s reassuring to know that it’s essential that both reason and emotion play such a vital role in decision-making. I always thought my gut was tied to my emotions — I actually think it’s one and the same.

All the data we gather, from those pro/con lists, from external advisers, arms us with a logical base for our emotional decisions.  But at the end of the day, the question whether   to move or not, whether to stay in a relationship or not, whether to cut your hair short or leave it long… it involves something more ineffable and mysterious,  a deeper emotional, perhaps subconscious, decision-making process.

When we explain our choices to people, we usually use all the rational arguments but   leave that emotional component out of our explanation — whereas  we ultimately chose our course because it felt like the right thing to do. Even if true, that can sound flaky or insubstantial. But without that feeling, we would be like Damasio’s patients still circling the decision.

However,  this is not to say following your emotions will always lead you to making the right decision.  What the heart wants is not always the right thing.  The heart sometimes wants to get back in that relationship where nothing has changed to make it different this time around. The heart sometimes makes us afraid of doing something new and leaves us stuck in unhappy situations.

Acknowledging that emotions play a vital role in decision-making does not mean they always help us make the right decision. This is why the pro/con list-making and listening to advice is still a good exercise. ALSO Exploring different facets of a decision and not just blindly following  your heart  is always a wise thing.  Sometimes — I’ve found the more I wanted to blindly follow my heart,  the more mistrustful… I should be of what I wanted to do… that my heart was rushing me towards a decision that my head knew was the wrong decision.

And even with all this: we’ll all make mistakes. However we have a choice about how we deal with our own mistakes. Sometimes, I know immediately when I’ve chosen the wrong path… the key is quickly getting myself back on the right path as quickly as possible (even if that means admitting the decision I made was wrong).  I really believe that staying on the wrong path will only create a snowball effect of bad decisions.  I’ve been trying to use both logic  and emotion to assess the decision  after  it’s been made, too.  And rather than feeling trapped by a bad decision, I’ve given myself that permission to change my mind. After all, there’s no shame in making a mistake once you’re willing to set it right!

Decision-making theory is an entire field of study. However, of course — we all manage to make decisions every day.  Sometimes they come easy…. you go straight to your wardrobe and put on the first thing you pick out. Other times, you make a huge mess trying on every outfit before you go back to the first thing you tried on!

But as I confront big decisions in my own life,  I try to calmly listen…. to my head and my heart, to not overrule or undermine one with the other. I try and give those around me the benefit of the doubt that they too have the power to change, evolve, grow and make choices based on the person they want to be as opposed to choosing based on the old behavior from the past.

We talk a lot about authenticity these days. For me, that means reflectively approaching all these choices and making a personal decision for yourself. Not being pressured, not conforming to an external idea, but exploring and staying open to new ideas, while staying true to your own emotional core. It may not make the decisions any easier, and it does not mean I don’t make mistakes still, but it does help me feel empowered in making them for myself.
God bless you!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Trust the prayer – move the energy 🙏🏾💙💙👊🏾🔥💧

Helen’s HEALING GOOD NEWS STORY

On Facebook:  though cancer groups you get  the  opport”unity”  to meet all   the right people. One of my favorite groups  of  all  with an incredible success rate  is  The Gerson Therapy Support Group  moderated  by  the  ever popular Kathleen Blake and this blog post is about a successful member of that group. Helen Bairstow of Cairns, Australia was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago, and opted for conventional therapy.

By the time she realized that it had recurred, it had also metastasized and was in bones, spine, lungs and more.  As a dynamic businesswoman,  author and mother of a young son, she did not just give up, but started on the Gerson Therapy. Two years later, being virtually cancer free,  Helen has produced a lovely recipe book, “Happy Gerson,”  has a wonderfully positive attitude, and is a winner in every way. PLease Join Howard Straus in a delightful conversation with Helen!    https://www.voiceamerica.com/episode/92121/helen-bairstows-remarkable-journey
So this is Helen’s Story in her own words!!!
Helen’s HEALING GOOD NEWS: Most of you know that I was diagnosed in 2010 with stage four breast cancer ( that’s the terminal one!). It had metastasized which means the cancer had ‘jumped ship’ out of my breast into in my lungs, ovaries, pelvis, sternum, ribs and throughout my entire spine, even causing three thoracic vertebrae to fracture. And yes, it hurt! I did have radiation and chemo initially, along with a tonne of natural therapies, which got rid of all soft tissue tumours.
In 2013 tumours came back to my breasts so I had a double mastectomy. In January 2014 I started the Gerson Therapy which works on getting your body healthy and detoxified at a cellular level so you can heal. It is at least a two year program.
During this time two new large tumours popped up on my ovaries, usually at this stage they administer palliative chemo but because I was, to quote my oncologist “In good nic!” they operated and removed my ovaries in September 2014. (My surgeon took pics of my insides which I can share to those with a strong stomach!)
For the last year my blood work has been normal (No Evidence of Disease) which is a great sign of health but the ‘mother of cancer detection tests’, the PET scan is the one that shows what’s really happening.  I’ve never actually needed a PET scan beforev because the cancer was easily detected by CT scans. A bit like if you’re up to your eyeballs in debt, you don’t need an investment broker, you need a debt consolidator.
It’s been a long journey but it’s GOOD NEWS from my PET scan. There’s one teeny spot detected on L1 vertebrae. That’s it. So celebration in this house, planning a future without a fear hanging over our head. So Please feel free to share this with anyone who needs some inspiration… Oh and LIKE my page because I plan to keep inspiring… https://www.facebook.com/HelenBairstowAlive/

Oftentimes things have to go wrong in order to go right.  In fact, if the road you’re traveling is always easy,  you’re likely going the wrong way.  Some part of you knows       this is true.  Nevertheless, when life gets especially rough, it can be hard to remember.
🌟🌟

So print this post out and let it remind you,  that in the darkest moments, every failure is only a necessary step toward success,  every discovery of what is wrong directs you toward what is right, every arduous trial today will exhaust some tempting form of future mistake, and every adversity will only hide,  for the short time, your ultimate path to happiness and success.   Trust your struggle | Zain Asher | TEDxEuston   🙂 🙂

25 Things to Remember When Life Gets Rough

Written by Marc Chernoff

25 Things to Remember When Life Gets Rough

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.  Because it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” ―Maya Angelou―

Here’s what you need to keep in mind when life gets rough:

  1. It is your resistance to “what is” that causes your suffering. – Remember, happiness is allowing yourself to be perfectly OK with “what is,” rather than wishing  for and worrying about “what is not.”  “What is” is what’s supposed to be, or it would not be.   The rest is just you,  arguing with life.  Think about that for a minute.  This means your suffering only ever occurs when you resist how things are.  You cannot control everything that happens to you; you can only control the way you respond to what happens.  In your response is your power.
  2. Where you are right now is a necessary step. – –  Sometimes we also avoid experiencing exactly where we are because we have developed a belief, based on our ideals, that it is not where we should be or want to be.  But the truth is, where you are right now is exactly where you need to be to get to where you want to go tomorrow.
  3. Not getting what you want can be a blessing. – Yep, not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of good luck, because it forces you to reevaluate things, opening new doors to opportunities and information you would have otherwise overlooked.
  4. Things will change (again) sooner than you think. – You’re not going to avoid change.  Change is the process of life itself.  In fact, everything is changing every single minute of our lives.  However good or bad a situation is now, it will change.  That’s the one thing you can count on.
  5. You have to be specific about how you intend to move forward. – Don’t be someone who goes through greater lengths to avoid change than you do to obtain what you desire.  Your life will begin to improve  when you define  precisely what “improve” means to you.  The agonies and frustrations will start to ease only when you have something real and positive to replace them with.  Be specific.  Happiness is not a goal, it’s the result of a life well lived.  The question is:  How do you want to live going forward?
  6. You can’t change situations you don’t take responsibility for. – Sigmund Freud once said, “Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.”  Don’t let this be you.  When you blame others for what you’re going through, you deny responsibility – you surrender power over that part of your life.  (Read Awaken the Giant Within.)
  7. Your attitude can improve your situation, or degrade it. – No matter how   bad things are, you can always make things worse.  Remember this.  You can’t have a positive life with a negative attitude.  When negativity controls your thoughts, it limits your behavior, actions, and opportunities.  If you realized how powerful your thoughts were, you would never think another negative thought again.
  8. Other people’s negativity isn’t worth worrying about. – Truth be told, what others say and do, and the opinions they have, are based entirely on their own self-reflection.  Don’t take things too personally.
  9. Anger is poison. – Always forgive people and move on, even if they never ask for your forgiveness.  Don’t do it for them – do it for you.  The best medicine is a strong dose of love, laughter and letting go.  Just like we would never allow even a tiny bit of poison to be in our food, let us not allow even a tiny bit of anger to live in our heart.
  10. You are strong enough to rise above this. – Don’t allow your temporary wounds to permanently transform you into someone you aren’t.  A strong person is not one who doesn’t cry; a strong person is one who cries for a moment openly, and then gets up and fights again for what they believe in.
  11. Your struggles are the path. – You are not what you have done – you are what   you have overcome.  Your struggles aren’t found on the path – they ARE the path.
  12. You have to rough it and risk it sometimes. –  Life is inherently risky. However    there is only one risk you should avoid at all costs, and that’s the risk of doing nothing.  Get out there and make something happen, even if it’s just a small step in the right direction.  Strive for progress, not perfection.
  13. Failure you learn from is always a step forward. – When he was working on inventing the light bulb, Thomas Edison famously said, “I have not failed.  I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”  In other words, he believed he never once failed at inventing the light bulb, he just first found thousands of ways that it didn’t work, which led him to the one way that did.  So take your so-called “failures” and learn something from them.  Learn how to do it better next time.  That’s what’s important.
  14. Finding the lesson is the key. – A happy, effective mindset is really dependent on perspective.  If you think something is a problem,  then your thoughts and emotions will be negative.  But if you think it’s something you can learn from, then suddenly,    it’s not a problem anymore.  In almost every case, nothing is stopping you, nothing is holding you back but your own thoughts and ideas about yourself and “how life is.”
  15. Everyone has their own challenges… everyone has their own journey. – It  is meaningless to compare one with the other.  We all need our own time to travel our own distance.  It’s perfectly OK to be different.  Today, the only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.
  16. You really are pretty amazing. – Even when life gets rough, you need to be willing to bet on yourself.  It’s the one investment in the world you can control better than anything else.  YOU are worth it!  (Read Choose Yourself!)
  17. Being kind to yourself is the best medicine. – Your self-worth has nothing to do with your craft, your calling or your success, and everything to do with how you treat yourself.  Always be kind.
  18. Being kind to everyone around you is imperative too. – Kind words can          be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless. Be kind whenever possible.   Realize that it is always possible.  What goes around comes around.  You know this.
  19. Letting others in when you’re in a dark place helps. – No, they won’t always   be able to pull you out of the dark place you’re in, but the light that spills in when they enter will at least show you which way the door is.
  20. Gratitude improves every situation. – Even in the most peaceful surroundings, the ungrateful heart finds trouble.  Even in the most troublesome surroundings, the grateful heart finds peace.  Remember this.  There is always, always, always something to be thankful for.  Life is better when you’re smiling.  Being positive in a negative situation is not naive; it’s a sign of leadership and strength.  You’re doing it right when you have so much to cry and complain about, but you prefer to smile and appreciate your life instead.  Ask yourself: What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you were grateful for today?
  21. Rough times help you appreciate the good times. – If everything was always smooth and perfect, you’d get too used to that, you know?  You have to have a little bit of chaos and disorder in your life now and then.  Otherwise you will never really enjoy it when things go right.
  22. All the small victories are worth celebrating. – Sometimes we forget to pause and appreciate all our little victories.  Remind yourself: It’s the small things done well that make a big life.
  23. It’s OK to give up on things that aren’t getting better. – Move forward with     no second-guessing, no guilt trips, no hesitation.  Your purpose is to let go and then recreate yourself anew in each moment.  There’s a big difference between giving up   and knowing when you have had enough.  Sometimes we have to move on to move forward. (Angel and I discuss this in detail in  “Adversity”  chapter of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently.)
  24. You are not trapped; you just need to re-learn a few things. – We all have doubts that make us feel trapped at times.  If you doubt your ability to make a life-altering decision, to take on a new chapter in your life, or to fend for yourself after years of being overly-fostered, consider this:  Surely if a bird with healthy wings is locked in a cage long enough, she will doubt her own ability to fly.  You still have your wings, but your muscles are weak.  Train them and stretch them slowly.  Give yourself space.  You’ll be flying again soon.
  25. Great things take time. – By all means, find ways to be more efficient in your work.  But make no mistake that it takes diligent effort through good times  and  bad to build something worthwhile.  There are certainly some success stories out there about people who excelled rather quickly,  however,  you will often also find they had put in years of related work long before anyone was paying attention to their seemingly rapid success.
  26. In other words. –  their current state of achievement is simply all those years of work coming together flawlessly in the present.  So start every morning ready to run farther than you did yesterday and fight harder than you ever have before.  It won’t      be easy, but it will be worth it in the end.

    Afterthoughts

One of life’s greatest gifts is the fact that life is difficult.  Because in dealing with life’s difficulties, we build invaluable strength. This strength enables us to successfully fulfill  our deepest, most meaningful purposes.  It is precisely because life is difficult that we     are able to make it great.  It is because life is difficult that we are able to rise above the difficulties.  We are able to make a difference and we are able to truly matter.

So keep this in mind: https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=SADqAwA%253D&q=cancer+survivors+Ted+Talks

When times are tough, you must be tougher.  Don’t pray for an easy life; pray for the strength to endure a tough one that leads to greatness. Some of the best journey’s get       off on shaky starts!!!!!

❤♪♫ ” Over The Rainbow ” ♪♫❤

Published on Jul 29, 2014

Few voices have touched millions of souls in the way that Eva Cassidy’s has. Few success stories are quite as poignant.

Timeless Voice – The remarkable Eva Cassidy and the story of how the music business could be turned on its head by the voice of a girl from small town Bowie in Washington DC.
People never forget the first …time they heard… Eva Cassidy: where they were, what they were doing,  or the fact that this amazing voice made them stop everything,  listen,       cry, find out who the singer was, and seek out her music. A voice so pure, strong and full of emotion that it connects with everyone within earshot.
.

And then, at the same moment a person discovers Eva Cassidy, they have to deal with     the loss of her.

In 1993, Cassidy had a malignant mole removed from her back. Three years later, during a promotional event for the Live at Blues Alley album in July 1996, Cassidy noticed an ache in her hips, which she attributed to stiffness from painting murals while perched atop a stepladder. The pain persisted and a few weeks later, X-rays revealed that the melanoma had spread to her lungs and bones.

Her doctors estimated she had three to five months to live. Cassidy opted for aggressive treatment, but her health deteriorated rapidly. In the early fall, at a benefit concert for her at the Bayou, making her final public appearance, closing the set with “What a Wonderful World” in front of an audience of family, friends, and fans.

Additional chemotherapy was ineffective and Cassidy died on November 2, 1996 at her family’s home in Bowie, Maryland. In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated and the ashes were scattered on the lake shores of St. Mary’s River Watershed Park, a nature reserve near Callaway, Maryland.

It’s one of those stories that is at once beautiful and tragic, taking on a life of its own and becoming the stuff legends are made of—especially if the lead character is a petite woman so shy and unsure of her talent …. that she would never realize the degree of her gift during her own lifetime; who was also unknown outside the D.C. area where she worked in a plant nursery during the day so she could play half-filled clubs on weeknights;  or who was never able to land a record deal because labels couldn’t figure out how to market her—she just so loved to sing great songs and was steadfast in her refusal to be confined to any one style of music.  And then—less than six months after using her savings,  a cash advance on a credit card and a $1,000 gift from her aunt to record and release her independent album—she tragically died of malignant melanoma at the age of 33.

As with all great legends, however, what seemed to be the end was only the beginning of this bittersweet tale of Eva Cassidy.

Four years after her death,  a tape she had made of   “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”     made its way into the hands of a programmer at Britain’s BBC2, who was so moved that  he played it on his program—only to be overwhelmed with responses from people who, among other things, had pulled their cars over to call in and find out who this stunning voice belonged to.

If Eva were alive today she would no doubt be shocked and most likely overwhelmed at  the worldwide attention,  by the praise bestowed upon her by the likes of Paul McCartney and Sting—indeed that they even know her name at all.  As of 2008,  her posthumously released albums have sold over eight million copies worldwide.  Eva’s high school friend, Ruth Murphy, summed it up nicely during an interview on ABC News Nightline: “I have  to kind of laugh because this is the way I think Eva would have loved it; everybody else does all the talking for her, and all she does is sing.”

To honor Eva,  here is the story behind her performance and recording of          “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” written by her cousin, Laura Bligh who runs  http://evacassidy.org/

“OVER THE RAINBOW”

In the end, it was “Over the Rainbow” that made Eva Cassidy a star, but it didn’t       happen until five years after her death.

Eva and Chris Biondo in 1992

Nobody seems to remember when Eva started singing it, but her producer and bassist Chris Biondo says, “Eva had been doing ‘Over the Rainbow’ for years. She had already recorded it once on a friend’s four-track when she was in high school. I remember we were driving to Ikea Furniture one day, and she pulled out a cassette and wanted me to hear the song. A couple of times I had to pull over, I was crying so hard; it was brutal. It was all her own version; there was a note she changed that was really good on the word ‘far,’ … it’s better than the way Judy Garland sang it.”

In the early ’90s, when the Eva Cassidy Band was recording The Other Side with legendary D.C. bluesman …. Chuck Brown,  Eva and Chris…. spent a few days  in his studio  working on “Over the Rainbow.”  The planned album would consist primarily of duets,  however,  Chuck and Eva would each be featured on solos as well. Knowing that Eva’s “Over the Rainbow” was something special, all the band members urged her to record that song for it. Eva played every note on the recording herself, Biondo says. “First she went in and played acoustic guitar, and that took the longest. Then she did the lead vocal, and then the other instruments. We worked really hard on it, and I remember the day we finished it—it was July 18, 1992. We were really tired and we didn’t think it was very good.”

Whatever Eva and Chris thought of the recording, lead guitarist Keith Grimes was very much impressed. “We were really slaving on that ‘Chuck and Eva’ album, and in the midst of our grunting and straining and working very hard (laughs), Eva and Chris did this song in a couple of days. She came in with that, and I said, ‘This is the best thing on the record! You little stinker!’ I felt so admiring of Eva. It was as if somebody had done the quintuple Lutz.  I felt like going up and shaking her hand,  because it’s so hard to land the big fish—   in terms of performance—and that’s what we were grappling with on some of these songs. And she did it. It’s like capturing something, because once you have it recorded you’ve got it forever.”

The Cancer Whisperer

I remember back on September 3rd when I met Katie Cohen in another Facebook group and she was in a State 0f Confusion over the VF J016 Pro Breville Juicer being hard to find anywhere in the United Kingdom. When we started to research we found that in the U.K. Breville is known as (Sage by Heston Blumenthal’s). Learning quickly  Katie was quick and instantly she had it on order `now that’s being proactive.  After disease progression and severe kidney impairment, Katie felt like she was quickly running out  of options, losing control and watching my prognosis shrink drastically.

Hence just a few days ago  Katie message me and stated:  Ken in the last few months          I hit a really rough patch… I was inside tunnel with no light in sight. 💔
Was on chemo and potentially dialysis, was angry with my doctor and basically thought I was just going to die soon. So after receiving the juicer which I use faithfully.  I picked up a book that I read before but really read this time and I have found to be incredibly useful in those months and it gave me hope again. This book taught me how to take control of my treatment and expressed what felt right to me..

Seeing the bad making up for the good. Able to own up to your mistakes and working on it …. so you can have a healthy conscience. Realizing that life is way too short. Forgiving is easy knowing that only you can make things right. Having respect for others as you would want them to forgive you too. Refusing to make it right can have badly consciences that at a later time it will catch up with you.

I read The Cancer Whisperer by Sophie Sabbage and it has really helped me turn things around. She is a stage IV lung cancer survivor …. that had a very poor prognosis. The book shows you how move away from fighting the disease to working with it and figuring out a treatment plan that works for you. She isn’t telling you how to cure cancer, although there is great practical advice, but how to deal with it on an emotional level. It comes out in the USA in January and you can pre order it at http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/549464/the-cancer-whisperer-by-sophie-sabbage/   My blog if you want to read…   www.between2lungs.com     Thanks, Katie   🙂

The Purple Dragon Slayer

First Posted on by Ken

^When I  first started my research I wanted  to  slay this bastard^

I had many people are Facebook ask me to put an about me link “top tag” post at the         top of this personal blog to inform the visitants about what got me to where I am today.      I always felt this blog wasn’t about me,  it’s free access to those in need 0f  information    and inspiration to become labeled “cancer free.”
MY Story started March 2006 when I lost my father to Leiomyosarcoma, and my         father always felt that what was needed in this world. Was an avenue to walk with      answers for cancer.  So cancer patient could better be informed through awareness            of the options available.
My father always thought what doctors only knew was the information gather at the hospital they worked and never compared notes with the institutions around them and       that many didn’t even now that. And the only thing they knew in most cases was the information that the patient knew themselves.

These risk  factors provide leads  for  further investigations into the genetic and environmental determinants of  various  forms of  SoftTissueSarcomas. Cancer is a genetic disease in which many  factors including diet, smoking, chemicals, sunlight, hereditary factors, and viruses are thought to cause alterations or mutations in our genes. An alteration can result in a change of  the DNA material within a gene or in excessive copies of a gene. When enough mutations accumulate, the normal process  inside the cell go awry, and tumors begin to grow.

The first case  of Leiomyosarcoma  was found in 1994according to a Case Study               by the University of Ontario.  This cancer only accounts for 5%-10% of all soft tissue sarcomas.  Famous people like Padma L. Atluri, a writer for 90210 and Men in Trees,    and Katie Price (Jordan), an English media personality, both suffered from LMS…

Learning that complementary treatments may not work for aggressive sarcomas.

With various sarcomas and a variety of mesenchymal tumors, including:

  • Alveolar soft part sarcoma
  • Angiosarcoma
  • Chondrosarcoma
  • Desmoid tumor
  • Desmoplastic small cell tumor
  • Epithelioid sarcoma
  • Ewings sarcoma
  • Extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma
  • Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
  • Fibrous histiocytoma of bone
  • Fibrosarcoma
  • Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)
  • Kaposi’s sarcoma
  • Leiomyosarcoma
  • Liposarcoma
  • Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH)
  • Malignant mesenchymoma
  • Malignant primative neuroectodermal tumor (PNET)
  • Myofibroblastic sarcoma
  • Myxofibrosarcoma
  • Neurofibrosarcoma
  • Osteoganic sarcoma
  • Osteosarcoma
  • PEComa
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma
  • Malignant schwannoma
  • Spindle cell sarcoma
  • Synovial sarcoma

they are so deadly to treat with so little known about some of them!!!

It is quite clear that there are certain situations which cause certain damage which can result in Sarcoma’s and the main one I am writing about LeioMyoSarcoma.

Why don’t all the people who CAN get a cancer get it?

It’s chance. It depends upon what the radiation photon, the virus, the antibody, actually attacks. Since most of the causal agents cause DNA damage, the sum of the exposures IS additive.

Much of the damage  comes  from free radicals.  Antioxidants  help  prevent  free radicals.    So one way that people predisposed to cancer DON’T get the cancer, is lots of antioxidants in their foods. This has been illustrated with the epidemiological investigation of green tea drinkers and cancer incidence rates.

For exposure to be significant, it is usually noticeable. The one person I know who was exposed to that wood preservative, painted her deck and practically bathed in it. People who have had radiation therapy, or significant exposure to radiation know about it, usually. Cyclosphosphamide does not grow freely under trees.

Autoimmune disease,  especially thyroid,  seems  to  predispose  to  malignancy. Autoimmune disease relapses can be stress related. If there is less stress, there will be fewer autoimmune active spells, and fewer antibodies, and less chance of getting p53   DNA damage. Autoimmune disease itself probably develops from a combination of genetric susceptibility and possibly a viral trigger.

About smoking– there was one study done that showed DNA repair took longer in cells    of people who smoke.

In the words of a friend, it’s mostly a crapshoot. BUT it is not completely a crapshoot. There are predisposing factors, and there are things you can do to counteract those factors…

Among the environmental exposures associated with STS are:
Some cases of severe immunodeficiency [AIDS, transplant patients] show Epstein-Barr virus is sometimes implicated in LMS.
Sarcomas, including LMS, are associated with autoimmune thyroid disease, and associated with other autoimmune illnesses.
In some cases the genetic predisposition may have interacted with environmental determinants to produce particular tumors.

arsenical pesticides and medications,
chlorophenols,
phenoxy herbicides,
dioxin,
vinyl chloride,
immunosuppressive drugs,
alkylating agents,
androgen-anabolic steroids,
human immunodeficiency virus,
human herpes virus type 8 [Kaposi’s sarcoma]
chronically edematous arms after radical mastectomy for breast cancer (Stewart-Treves syndrome).

external radiation therapy (prevalence of radiation-induced sarcoma: 0.17-0.21%),
Thorotrast [a contrast Xray dye no longer used]…
In my last ten years of self discovery always turning over another stone….     I  have  always  found new books from ….  Incurable to Incredible where Tami Boehmer uncovers many inspiring cancer survivor stories. The one sticking out mostly to mean on my search to find the LMS Cure was Yvonne Cooper.  Finding the answer with the Bill Peeples Protocol …. (GOOGLE IT FOR YORSELF)!!!!

“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back.”
–John O’DonohueThe soul of Patricia Moreira-Cali has been stirred into full life by a purple dragon known as leiomyosarcoma. It is a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and for women it usually starts in the uterus…. PATRICIA has also embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery since April 23, 2013. It hasn’t always been an easy road, as the chemotherapy has let to some brutal side-effects on her body, but she tries her best not to give in to the Purple Dragon…
On April 23, 2013, Patricia’s uterine “fibroids” were found to be cancerous, and she     began a perilous journey that continues today. She so bravely talks about her first year after the diagnosis in her book, “My Journey with the Purple Dragon.” She goes into vulnerable detail about her emotional experiences and her search for a cure.
“Friends and family are not with you at all times of the day and night,” she wrote. “You are alone when the tears seem endless, when the sorrow is so painful that it’s hard to breathe, when the grief cuts through your core, when you long for the freedom to feel healthy, and when you are introduced to death, and somehow you befriend it.”She experiments with a variety of complementary treatments while doing conventional chemotherapy. “I have no doubt that the treatment of cancer, and many other chronic diseases, requires a holistic approach,” she wrote. Among her choices were to visit John of God in Brazil, and she describes her experiences there.
Gradually, the reader witnesses Patricia’s inner transformation. “A new me is emerging, growing and flourishing, somehow,” she writes. When she reaches the end of her first year of treatment, she finds an enviable place of serenity. “I have detached from much illusion, and I feel mostly at peace within.”
The book is self-published and could benefit from professional editing, yet overall it is a moving story of courage and a roadmap for others on the journey with cancer.
Profits from Patricia’s book sales go to leiomyosarcoma research and to support a poor child with cancer through her non-profit Helping Children Heal (HCH). Her book can     be ordered at http://www.purpledragonjourney.com/order-now/

…AS the old year became 2016.  I was ask to explain what happen to Rosa Parkin. HOW could one member of our facebook goup be doing so well… only to have it all turn out so horribly wrong for her the 1st Week of September.  MY first thought  would be blame the chemotherapy see mixed with the natural or cannabis oil. With the second thought being maybe the travel strain  and pressure she faced toward the end  or  the Oregon Trip from the U.K.  She also took to find the quality and affordable cannabi…s oil she seeked.  With mY third thought being:  Leiomyosarcoma… being an aggressive type of cancer ~ maybe she should have tried  the lesser toxic known cancer treatment  that we are now starting   to realize.  That might be a better bet  than this guessing game  we often find us in trying    to figureout the answers in the groups.

What I do know about Rosa is this: when she was DX with LMS she was given only two years to survive  and in the end it was two years five days.  However,  when she came into our group October 2014. She had a 8cm tumor in her uterus preventing her from walking. With renewed hope and awareness…. in only a few days  she was out of her bed.  Learning all about newer options and meeting new friends in the cancer groups on Facebook with a positive outlook on her outcome.

Rosa tried many things and in the end was pain free and had peace within herself. Being guided to heaven with the magical oil by her side.  Looking back  I so realize things happen for a reason and Rosa was very fortunate meeting the people from the groups she found on Facebook and couldn’t Thank Enough…  R.i.P.  MY Dear Friend    😇💕💜👍😇 💕

Rosa Parkin's Profile Photo

Since that September date when I received the devastating news. I have continued on my search for the answer that would finally slay the purple dragon. Learning through a relapse and recovery of a Former Facebook Friend from Thailand that Immunotherapy helped her twice to become cancer free of the dreadful dragon.  Learning when it comes to aggressive cancer one best be keeping all options open.

Within the conventional realm: Three leading sarcoma specialist treating sarcomas are Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. John Healey whom talks about the specialized care people with sarcoma — cancer of the bone or muscle — receive  at  Memorial Sloan-Kettering in NYC.   Dr.  Healey is generally regarded as one of the best in the world treating sarcoma’s!!!!

Dr. Suzanne George M.D. clinical responsibilities involve working extensively with the multidisciplinary team  within  the Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology  at  the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  I treat  and provide consultation to many patients with sarcoma both from the New England area, other parts of the United States and from abroad.  I am actively involved in the clinical research aspects of our program. Specifically I am working with our research team to developing and executing new clinical trials focusing on therapy for metastatic soft tissue sarcoma as well as being involved in the execution of ongoing clinical trials in our group.

Also Dr. Pasquale Benedetto is a board-certified, fellowship-trained professor at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive cancer Center. He received his medical doctorate at the Weill Medical College of Cornell university in New York City, New York. David Octavio Gandell,  a 2 time Cancer Survivor believed that God would heal him and that Dr. Pasquale W. Benedetto, M.D, was God’s instrument.  Dr. B was the only Doctor that asked to take the case,  no one believed  their was anything  that could save his life and in this special interview … Dr.  Benedetto speaks  about David’s Faith  and Miracle       as he exceeded all expectations.

UPDATE: A few nights ago I chatted with Claudia (right) about her sister Maria (Left)   and a TITLE: A Phase II Trial of Concurrent Axitinib and Pembrolizumab in Subjects    with  Advanced Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS)  and  Other Soft Tissue Sarcomas  (STS) clinic trial she is having at University of Miami   an Associate 0f Dr. Benedetto     for   Leimyosarcoma and everything is still looking quite favorable.
http://uhealthsystem.com/doctors/profile/135059
With just a bit of edema in her hands/feet . Maria is experiencing no major side effects with a first scan planned for October 25th. LMS is the major reason I do what I do and would like to Slay this Dragon someday. Please lets include Maria in our prayers often.

IT Will Never Be The Same

Image result for it will never be the same

By Jeremy Bradley CBS News October 14, 2015, 5:00 AM

After breast cancer, “I won’t ever be the same. And that’s OK.”

She thought about potato chips. During the hardest parts of her 15-day, 467-mile run — Davina McNaney thought about potato chips. She also daydreamed about taking epsom salt baths and hugging her two young daughters at the finish line. And she thought about the day more than three years before, when she found out she had breast cancer.

McNaney was at home with her younger daughter when the phone rang in October 2012. She had gotten her first mammogram just a few weeks earlier. The doctors asked her to come back for a second mammogram and biopsy. McNaney didn’t think much of it. Although some members of her extended family had breast cancer, her mother and grandmother did not. Plus, she was feeling fine and in great shape — she’d just completed a 40-mile race on her 40th birthday. But the nurse on the other end of the line explained McNaney’s biopsy showed DCIS, or ductal carcinoma in situ — the presence of abnormal cells inside the milk duct in the breast.

“I said, ‘Are you telling me I have breast cancer?'” McNaney recalls. “And she kind of paused and she said, ‘Yes I’m telling you have have breast cancer, I’m very sorry.'”

Just four months after that phone call, McNaney had a double mastectomy. Because her breast cancer was detected so early, she had options.

Doctors told her she could have 35 rounds of radiation, a lumpectomy or double mastectomy. Her cancer was very close to the chest wall, so she decided against radiation. She felt a lumpectomy wasn’t the right decision, either. For her, the choice was clear. “I felt like my breasts had betrayed me,” she explained. “I used these things to nurse two children, I was done with them and they betrayed me I wanted them gone — so that’s why I chose to go the route that I did.”

McNaney says it took about three months to recover before she was able to run again. Running had been a passion since she completed her first marathon at 30 years old. Before her cancer treatment,  she ran nearly every day either outside or on a treadmill during the harsh Michigan winters.  She even ran a 100-mile trail race with friends      while dressed in costume as an Egyptian princess.

After her surgery and physical therapy, McNaney began thinking about ways to celebrate life and raise money for cancer research. She was thankful for her treatment and feeling strong again. In May 2014 — more than a year after her double mastectomy — it came to her: “I woke up and I just said in my head,  ‘I’m going to run home,  I’m going to run to New York,'” she says.

It was her own little secret; at first she didn’t even share it with her husband of 15 years. But she had done the math — she would cover the 467 miles from her home in Pinckney, Michigan, to her hometown of Sodus Point, New York, in 15 days.

The thought stayed in her mind until a chat with friends at a neighborhood bonfire —     and a few drinks — persuaded her to share it out loud. “I get passionate when I’m talking about running, so I said I’m going to run to New York,” McNaney says. “And I just went, ‘Whoops!’ Because once I say it out loud I was doing this and nothing was going to stop me.”

The concept of “RunMI2NY” was officially launched and McNaney began organizing       the run. Her husband would join her throughout the entire journey, biking alongside      her or driving a van full of supplies to each stop along the route. She found sponsors       and raised more than $20,000 dollars for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

On June 26, her journey began in bittersweet fashion. McNaney and her family had sold their home in Michigan  and were in the process of relocating to Massachusetts.  She said good-bye to her empty home, locked the door and ran 36 miles that day. She ran 36 miles a day for six days in a row.  For the next two days she ran 13 miles each — giving her some extra time to celebrate her oldest daughter’s eighth birthday. She then ran five consecutive 34-mile days and finished with a 20-mile run. “There was no option to not make it,” says McNaney. “People had donated at that point over $20,000. I can’t stop.”

Hundreds of people lined the streets as McNaney reached her destination in Sodus Point, a town of about 1,000 people  on  an  inlet off Lake Ontario.  McNaney’s family went back four generations there.  Cousins,  friends  and neighbors all came out to cheer her on. The local fire department closed the streets and escorted her the final three miles. “I replay it in my head like a movie because it was just such a happy day,” she says.

Today McNaney says she is “100 percent cancer free” and thinking about her next big adventure.

She gets both proud and embarrassed when her daughters tell strangers of her multi-state run. And she’s not sure if she would ever do it again. But she is sure the run and her cancer experience have changed her. “I won’t ever be the same. And that’s OK. It’s a good thing.”
