Lyme Persists

Ticks have 4 life stages: egg, larva, nymph & adult.

In each stage after hatching, they suck blood from animals like mice, squirrels, birds & deer. During feeding, nymphid & adult ticks can transmit #Lyme to humans. .@CDCgov
says that Americans are at increased risk of vector-borne disease (VBD), & many aren’t prepared to respond to these threats. That’s why we at @HHS_Innovates
are asking the public for input on our VBD Request for Information.

Despite a growing MOUNTAIN of credible research evidencing persistent infection after antibiotic treatment, unfortunately, there remains a deep divide in the standard of care for #LymeFewer than 12% of patients in our #MyLymeData registry were diagnosed within the critical first month.
Most patients who are diagnosed and treated early respond well to standard treatment protocols. Sense patients who are not better after a few weeks of antibiotics TOUCHED BY LYME: “Main St. Living” spreads the word about Lyme disease   While the CDC calls these lingering symptoms “post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome” (PTLDS), it is our belief that the more accurate term is Persistent Lyme Disease (PLD).

Miss California USA kept mum about Lyme disease for 24 years
Miss California USA

People, November 4, 2020

by Joelle Goldstein

Allyshia Gupta is embracing the truth about her health and revealing she has Lyme disease, more than 20 years after being diagnosed.

Gupta, who was crowned Miss California USA in January, tells PEOPLE that she first learned she had Lyme when she was 2-years-old, but never shared her story publicly for fear of “being seen as less than.”

“It was something that I wanted to withhold. I didn’t want my employer to think, ‘Oh…. I’m not going to hire her because she might potentially be disabled or unable to do this,’” she explains. “I was advised by people to not share this because ‘you don’t want it to give you a bad rep.’ ” READ MORE.

[Editor’s note: Gupta will compete in the Miss USA pageant on November 9.]
