It’s Michaela time!

Mikaela Shiffrin during her first run of the giant slalom
Mikaela Shiffrin made her World Cup debut in 2011

February 18, 2022, Three-time Olympic medalist Mikaela Shiffrin
did not add to her trophy case in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
In an Olympic shocker, Shiffrin failed to reach the podium in all five individual events she entered. The first three of those events did not go according to plan. In arguably her best competition — the giant slalom — Shiffrin crashed out on her first run after missing an early gate. The reigning Olympic gold medalist in the event, Shiffrin also has three medals (two silver and one bronze) at the world championships in the giant slalom.

The early exit is also surprising because of her consistency — it’s her first time crashing out of a giant slalom competition in a span of 30 races, dating all the way back to January of 2018. In her second event, the slalom, Shiffrin also crashed out and did not qualify.
In her third event, Shiffrin was able to finish a race for the first time at these Games,
but she wound up taking 9th place in the women’s super-G.
In her fourth event, Shiffrin missed out on the podium again in the women’s downhill, and then skied out of the slalom race in the women’s combined event for an early elimination.

Mikaela Shiffrin claimed a record-extending 88th World Cup win with victory in the giant slalom in Andorra. The 28-year-old American clocked one minute 55.88 seconds across her two runs in Soldeu to finish 0.06secs ahead of Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund. Canada’s Valerie Grenier was third.

Shiffrin broke the record of 86 World Cup wins – held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark – earlier this month. Victory gave Shiffrin her 138th podium finish, breaking Lindsey Vonn’s record.

She drew level with compatriot Vonn when she finished third in Saturday’s slalom.
“I feel OK, this is amazing,” Shiffrin told her boyfriend and fellow World Cup alpine
ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, 30, who surprised her with a post-race interview.
“I feel great and all these women are fighting in the second run.

Congrats to all the women. I’ve decided to come back and do it all again next year.
“ALSO Just keep moving on. Going back to the US, going to get some beach time.”
The win completed a remarkable season for Shiffrin, who had 14 victories across all disciplines and had already secured the overall, slalom and giant slalom World Cup
crystal globes before this weekend’s event.

Unbelievable and awesome!
History Epic! GOAT!! What a champion!!!
So moving to see someone excel so much at what they love doing, after a tough last year, coming back this year and picking herself back up in this way to reset all records. That is what a Champion does. They pick themselves up and shoot through glass ceilings, records, ice…

whatever is in the way better move over!

💪🏽 So fierce. Perfect skiing ⛷️
She blows my mind. That run was beautiful. I raced a few years in college.
The power and precision seem unattainable, yet she attains it.
I remember watching Stenmark. Such a good guy, and now Shiffrin!!

Ingemar was the best, but you are the greatest skier of all time. You have won across all disciplines which Ingemar did not do. You have achieved the same number of victories faster and at a younger age and in a more competitive environment. Best of all you are
in both victory and defeat, gracious, humble, civil and at all times well mannered.

This all points to how well you were brought up and the family role models who helped mould your good character. This is what you will be remembered for long after your retirement. Best wishes for your continued skiing competitions and congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment and milestone.

You are radiant, Mikaela, the moment you stood in the winner’s position and your name was called you shifted into greatness right before our eyes. You were glowing and you can see it in the exact moment that this shot was taken.

So thrilled for you. Snow Queen immortalized in your 87th victory. 👏

Thank you for being true greatness embodied in a humble, beautiful spirit and soul.

🌹⛷👑🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

Still in awe. Alpine skiing’s GOAT of all time is a woman ! And American female skiers have been winning like crazy for decades but this is our Queen now . But it is the inspiration of Andrea Mead Lawrence, Penny Pitou, Susie Corrock, Cindy Nelson, Picabo Street, Tamara McKinney, Julia Mancini, Christine Cooper, Jean Saubert, Barbara and Marilyn Cochran, Holly Flanders, Diann Roffe, Sarah Schleper, and yes the great Lindsay Vonn and more.
I can’t remember at the moment, who inspired generations of girls to try this amazing dangerous sport at times.

There are so many humans who make our species look like the worst form of life imaginable, and then there is the opposite of this. I really think that @mikaelashiffrin is so extremely amazing that she redeems humanity and shows us what we really should be and can be.

I can still recall the very first day when I noticed your unbelievable talent ten-something years ago.
Simply an artist. It’s like watching a beautiful moving painting, all the parts in place melting with the snow as one. She is the very definition of style, executing extremely difficult tasks with grace and making it look effortlessly. What a joy
The way you’re reacting, writing, thinking, feeling and considering others makes you even more special than all your countless medals! ❤️❤️👏👏

😍😍😍

Congratulations for your 🥈🥇🥈 and best wishes! ❤️
Thank you Mikaela, that since then you achieved the GOAT Title. It’s an honour that I can say that I was your fan back then, on your first podium when only the privileged knew that you surpassed Ingemar Stenmark.  But I think all must be awestruck by this new pinnacle set by the most gifted athlete man or woman , under intense pressure for years, to click into a lot of skis and go for it . A record for the ages.

You deserve all the good that life can bring to you. Grit, determination, hard work, and humility. A champion of sport and humanity. Such an amazing champion. And a superlative role model. She is truly one of a kind. She is the greatest skier in history and is not even remotely up for debate. The question now is if she is the greatest athlete in history. Is there anyone who dominated their sport completely, redefined that sport so thoroughly and so rapidly?

Please, give yourself a huge hug. You so deserve it. As a former competitive athlete, I can try to imagine the immensity of the pressures, expectations, agendas, jealousies etc. you experience. You are simply amazing. What an achievement – and in Women’s History Month no less! All hail to the 🐐!!   Humble powerhouse. 🔥👏👏🙌🏻👑🙌🏻  Instagram

Shiffrin finishes with GS win, two more records.  Mikaela Shiffrin puts a bow on her historic 2022-23 World Cup campaign with a final giant slalom win in Andorra that broke two more all-time records.

How to end the season with a bang and break more records!

As if they weren’t enough 😉 for @MikaelaShiffrin

🤩 📌 Women’s all-time podium record (138)

📌 Most women’s world cup GS wins ever (21)

📌 8️⃣8️⃣ World Cup victories #fisalpine 👏 ❤

It was also a record 21st win in the women’s giant slalom and meant she ended with a career-best World Cup points tally of 2,206, with only Slovenian Tina Maze’s 2,414 points scored in 2013 ahead of her in the all-time rankings.

It’s a shame more people here in The USA don’t realize just how great she is… watching her ski is amazing and I’m enjoying the show till it inevitably ends one day👍🐐🐐 All your hard work for you this season. you deserve all the honors there are. you are a likeable person, just have to appreciate you. no one should be allowed to hurt you, no one. You will probably show a lot more in the years to come.

We are looking forward to it.🎉🎉👏🍀🍀

I am so, so, so happy for you. Congratulations.
