President Joe Biden spent nearly 40% of 2022 in Delaware, Camp David and
vacation destinations.

A Daily Caller analysis of Biden’s 2022 public schedule shows that the president spent
92 days or partial days at one of his Delaware properties, and 32 days or partial days at
Camp David.

Biden also vacationed seven days in South Carolina, five days in Nantucket, and five days in the U.S. Virgin Islands, bringing his total getaway days to a total of 141, or 38.6% of his first full calendar year. Biden’s numbers, however, are on track to outpace every president, CNN reported, using data compiled by former CBS White House Correspondent Mark Knoller.

His time working from Delaware had already exceeded that of Trump in October, according to Knoller. If Biden is re-elected and keeps up the pace of his trips to Delaware, his vacation time would far eclipse those of Obama, Bush and Reagan, Knoller told the outlet.

The White House has argued that the presidency can be conducted from outside Washington, D.C., and that Biden has the “right to spend time with his family.”

“The presidency is a nonstop job that chief executives can do from anywhere in the world. And regardless of location, he has taken fewer vacation days than the modern norm,” White House deputy press Secretary Andrew Bates has said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended Biden’s time away from the Oval Office in August, saying, “he was going to go spend time with his family which every president does. That is not unusual, that is not uncommon to do, and the president has a right to spend time with his family just like every other American across the country.”

It’s a matter of life and death… The resupply of fuel during combat operations costs about four lives for every 100 convoys.

To put it another way… One out of every 25 times a fuel convoy is deployed to refuel a station, someone in that convoy will die. Ammonia is also a fuel that can power internal combustion and jet engines. Unlike petrol or kerosene, it releases no poisonous carbon dioxide whatsoever. Let me explain…

Renewable energy has surged by 468% in the U.S. since 2008. In California, rooftop solar is already producing three times as much as centralized stations. – Search (bing.com)
But this is just the beginning… The Biden administration has called for 100% clean energy by the middle of the century. This new legislation will inject $1.7 trillion into clean energy technologies. That money will pay for an annual addition of 100 gigawatts of generation capacity.

That’s enough to supply California and New Jersey with electricity for a whole year. There’s one problem, however. This kind of energy supply is unstable. On the one hand, the sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. On the other hand, when there’s a lot of sun and wind, much more energy is being produced than the grid can handle.

Solar panels and wind turbines have to be disconnected from the grid to prevent overloads when that’s happening. As a result, California alone loses nearly 200 gigawatt-hours of electricity each month. That’s enough to power about 228,050 homes, and it’s simply going to waste. The only way to use this excess power is by feeding it into storage solutions.

And with all that extra wind and solar power coming online very soon, the demand for cheap electricity storage is about to soar. This company’s machine can take excess electricity and transform it into ammonia. When there’s no sun or wind, that ammonia can be fed into thermal power stations to produce zero-emission electricity. It’s like a liquid battery, only without the chemical waste or constant potential for failure.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, ammonia is the lowest-cost proven technology for long-term, large-scale energy storage. Right now, the U.S. has 23.2 gigawatts of capacity in energy storage. But that’s not enough to transition to 100% renewable energy. As research firm Wood Mackenzie estimates, 900 gigawatts of new storage will be needed in the next 10 years. That’s an increase of 3,779%.

And that’s just in the U.S.


Globally, 143 countries are committed to 100% clean energy roadmaps. Countries like Canada, Australia, Mexico, France, Iceland, and even places like Nepal, Zimbabwe, and Jamaica are fully transitioning to wind and solar energy.

That equates to an investment of $132.4 billion in the next four years. The opportunity here is so big that it’s hard to calculate how much this tiny company that owns the proprietary technology for the Haber-Bosch upgrade could soar. And remember, this is ON TOP of its primary business model: fuel production. Now, before I continue, I want to make sure you understand that despite all of the prospects, the early-stage nature of this company makes this a highly speculative bet.

There’s always risk in investing. Never risk more money than you can afford to lose. But with the potential we’re facing here, even a small initial stake can potentially grow into a sizable position. Who was William H. Pitsenbarger?

William Hart Pitsenbarger (July 8, 1944 – April 11, 1966) was a United States Air Force Pararescueman who flew on almost 300 rescue missions during the Vietnam War 
to aid downed soldiers and pilots. 
Pitsenbarger was born in 1944 and grew up in Piqua, Ohio, a small town near Dayton.
As a junior in high school, he tried to enlist in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret, but his parents refused to give their permission.
After he graduated from high school, he decided to join the U.S. Air Force, and on
 New Year’s Eve 1962, he was on a train bound for basic training in San Antonio.

During his basic training in early 1963, he volunteered for Pararescue. Training included the U.S. Army Airborne School, U.S Navy Dive School (SCUBA), survival school, and a rescue and survival medical course. More Air Force rescue training and jungle survival school followed. His final training was in air crash rescue and firefighting.[4] 
He completed the requirements, and was one of the first group of airmen to qualify for Pararescue right out of basic training. After completing, he was assigned to the Rescue Squadron stationed at the Hamilton AFBCalifornia.

The Last Full Measure, the fact-based Vietnam War-heavy movie that opened nationwide on January 24, 2020, features a five-pack of big-time Baby Boomer male actors playing Vietnam War veterans.
William Hurt, 70, offers up Tulley, an intense, troubled USAF vet, using many of the mannerisms he displayed in his portrayal of the troubled, impotent Nam vet Nick in the classic 1983 movie, The Big Chill.
Samuel L. Jackson, 71, as Takoda, is his usual intense self, as a troubled, one-time Army infantry LT still haunted by flashbacks from the catastrophic engagement that’s at the center of the film.
Ed Harris, 69, is a cranky codger who drives a school bus and stumbles along life’s path primarily because of something he didn’t do during the battle in question.
Peter Fonda, who died at 79 August 16, 2019, gave us Jimmy Burr, a mentally disturbed former infantryman scarred so deeply that he has retreated to a cabin deep in the woods where he sleeps during the day and hunts his demons toting a rifle when he’s awake at night.

John Savage, 70, is Chauncy Kepper who also lives in the woods, but back in Vietnam, where he has found inner peace battling his combat-induced trauma with the help of deep breathing—and butterflies. (Butterfly Room Scene 1 hour 09-minute mark.)

The other Vietnam War veteran character in the film is played by a real Nam vet, the great Dale Dye, 75, who also served as one of the movie’s three military technical advisers. Dye and former USAF Vietnam War Para-rescue MSG James Pighini and retired Marine SMAJ James Dever were responsible for the movie’s brutally realistic Vietnam War battle scenes. Dye plays a U.S. Senator who made a mistake during his tour of duty, but whose honor and honesty redeems him four decades later.
Not coincidentally, each of these AARP-member actors has played at least one Vietnam War veteran on the silver screen.

‘INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY’
Todd Robinson, who wrote and directed The Last Full Measure, has created a movie that, in Hollywood parlance, is “inspired by a true story.” What we get in this partly true and partly fictitious movie is both inspiring and deflating and both heartwarming and cloying.

The true story is the inspiring part. Here are the facts:
William H. “Pits” Pitsenbarger joined the Air Force when he was nineteen in 1963.
He volunteered for USAF Special Warfare as a Pararescue specialist, one of the most dangerous jobs in any war. He went to Vietnam in 1965 and served in the 38th Air
Rescue and Recovery Squadron based at Bien Hoa Air Base, and took part in more
than 250 missions.

During a horrific firefight on April 11, 1966, Airman 1st Class Pitsenbarger and his
crew came to the rescue of an encircled and outnumbered 2nd Battalion/16th Infantry Regiment/1st Infantry Division company at the Battle of Xa Cam My in the jungles 35 miles east of Saigon.
The company took 80 percent casualties, including 36 men killed in action in a VC ambush. When he learned that the company’s medic had been killed, Pits decided to try to help, rode the hoist a hundred feet into the heat of the battles, and descended into the fray.

On the ground, his Medal of Honor citation notes, “he organized and coordinated rescue efforts, cared for the wounded,” and “prepared casualties for evacuation.” Amid intense enemy fire, Pits personally rescued nine wounded men and refused to evacuate himself to try to get other wounded guys out of the fight. When sniper and mortar fire increased, Pits “took up arms with the besieged infantrymen.” He “repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to care for the wounded, pull them out of the line of fire, and return fire whenever he could, during which time he was wounded three times,” and then mortally wounded.

The movie flashes back and forth to the battle and to its psychological aftermath among the five men recounting the story in the late 1990s during the effort to upgrade Pits’ Air Force Cross (the second-highest USAF medal for courage under fire) to a Medal of Honor. The battle scenes, shot in Thailand, are hyper-realistic. That includes shots of war carnage, enough that any war veteran who’s experienced it may be discomfited by the up-close shots of spouting blood, dismemberment, violent death, and the deafeningly loud, insistent ordnance zinging and casings flying.
Those scenes ably show the MOH-worthy actions and valor of Pits (played more than capably by the recruiting-poster handsome English actor Jeremy Irvine) and the deadly onslaught the Big Red One infantryman found themselves in.

That’s the good news about Last Full Measure.
The movie falls down, though, in most of the 1990s scenes, primarily the ones that Todd Robinson made up “inspired by” the true story of how Pits came to get the MOH. The biggest letdown is a completely fictional character, a power-hungry young man working his way up the DOD civilian ladder called Scott Huffman (Sebastian Stan).

Finally, a war story worth watching. Sebastian Stan’s new war drama film The Last Full Measure paid tribute to William H. Pitsenbarger and took 20 years to make. The movie is a great, well-rounded biography of war story. It is gripping and incredibly well acted with a first-class cast.

The Last Full Measure is about real-life Vietnam War hero William H. Pitsenbarger who tragically died at the age of 21 during a rescue mission in 1966 after saving countless lives during the war. More than 30 years later, Pentagon investigator Scott Huffman probes a Medal of Honor request for Pits made by his friend and parents.

Vietnam War
His first assignment in Vietnam was in the form of Temporary Duty (TDY). Upon completing his first TDY assignment, he volunteered to return and received orders in 1965 to report to Detachment 6, 38th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron at Bien Hoa Air Base near Saigon.

During his service, William H. Pitsenbarger flew on almost 300 rescue missions

During his time in Vietnam, he has become one of the most reliable service members
in the 38th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron. His commanding officer, Major Maurice Kessler, called him: “One of a special breed. Alert and always ready to go on any mission.”

On April 11, 1966, he was killed in action during the rescue mission in a battle near
Cam My, 35 miles east of Saigon. The Joint Rescue Center dispatched two Huskies from Detachment 6 to extract a half-dozen Army casualties pinned down and surrounded by Vietcong. Upon reaching the ambush site, he was lowered through the trees to the ground, where he attended to the wounded before having them lifted to the helicopter by cable. After six wounded men had been flown to an aid station, the two U.S. Air Force helicopters returned for their second load.

For the next hour and a half, Pitsenbarger attended to wounded soldiers, hacking splints out of snarled vines and building improvised stretchers out of saplings. When the others began running low on ammunition, he gathered ammunition from the dead and distributed them to those still alive. Then, he joined the others with a rifle to hold off the Viet Cong. Pitsenbarger was killed by Viet Cong snipers later that night. When his body was recovered the next day, one hand held a rifle, and the other clutched a medical kit. Although Pitsenbarger did not escape alive, nine other men did, partially thanks to his courage and devotion to duty.

One of the helicopters lowered its litter basket to Pitsenbarger, who had remained on the ground with the 20 infantrymen still alive; a burst of enemy small-arms fire hit it. When its engine began to lose power, the pilot realized he had to get the helicopter away from the area as soon as possible. Instead of climbing into the litter basket so he could leave with the helicopter, Pitsenbarger elected to remain with the Army troops under enemy attack, and he gave a “wave-off” to the helicopter, which flew away to safety. With heavy mortar and small-arms fire, the helicopters couldn’t return to rescue the rescuer. He is buried in Miami Memorial Park Cemetery Covington, Ohio.[6]

Medal of Honor

On December 8, 2000, at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the airman’s father, William F. Pitsenbarger, and his wife, Alice, accepted the Medal of Honor from Secretary of the Air Force Whit Peters. During the same ceremony, he was also posthumously promoted to Staff Sergeant’s rank. The audience included battle survivors, hundreds of pararescue airmen, a congressional representative, and the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force.

His Medal of Honor citation recalls, “Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty … his bravery and determination exemplify the highest professional standards and traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Air Force.”
When Airman First Class William H. Pitsenbarger perished while single-handedly aiding, evacuating, defending and providing medical care to a unit of soldiers pinned down by the enemy deep in the Vietnam jungle, he left behind a legacy of bravery, valiance, determination, and personal fortitude.
That legacy lives on in the new feature film, “The Last Full Measure,” which tells the story of the U.S. Air Force Pararescueman awarded the country’s highest military honor, the medal of honor, 34 years after his supreme sacrifice.
His memory is also honored by the Air Force Association through our annual Pitsenbarger scholarship program.

Each year, AFA awards scholarships to USAF enlisted personnel graduating from the Community College of the Air Force who plan to continue their education and pursue a baccalaureate degree. In addition to academic achievement, the grant recognizes Airmen who exemplify leadership, citizenship, teamwork, community service, personal development, and dedication.
Over the last decade, AFA has awarded more than $1.3 million in Pitsenbarger scholarship grants to more than four thousand deserving Airmen in his name.

Could this scenario possibly become a reality? Look back at 1984 and draw your own conclusion. The parallels to today’s one party rule are indeed frightening. Thus is a worthwhile read. The conclusion is indecisive and leaves more questions than solutions.

This story was about the deep decline of America and developing police states. Churches and Christians are systematically hunted as churches are closed down and anyone involved arrested. Big brother is really watching, close. This is a story of those who decided they’d had enough and fought back. I rated this book a 3 because to me, there were too many deep teachings, for lack of a better way to phrase it. It was still a good story and I look forward to the next book by this author.

At first there were a lot of characters with different points of view but as the story progressed, it all came together in what proved to be a realistic and intriguing story about politics, privacy, technology, and freedom. This is a great read that will definitely spur some internal contemplation on society and where we are headed. The characters were relatable and I found myself really rooting for them to make it through. I love a good open ending as well as it gives me a chance to contemplate what I want to happen.

⛷️ A Champion Recovery! ⛷️

Beijing 2022 proved to be the most difficult two weeks of Mikaela Shiffrin’s career.

After coming into the Winter Games with a realistic chance of becoming the first American skier to win three golds at a single Olympics, the 26-year-old suffered 60% of her career DNF’s at the National Alpine Skiing Centre this month.
Shiffrin failed to finish in three of the six events she competed in, crashing out after only five gates in both the giant slalom and slalom.
Despite that disappointment – which culminated in Shiffrin ending her stay in Beijing without a medal following the USA’s loss to Norway in the small final of the mixed team parallel on Sunday – the skier is remaining remarkably sanguine about her participation at these Winter Olympics.
“The pinnacle of the last four years of work is over now and it did not really go that well for me,” Shiffrin says. “However, you can fail and not be a failure. You can lose and actually be a loser because you lost, but still also be a winner.

“It’s just what you do on a daily basis. Some days you lose and some days you win, and you can go through all of that and have the most turbulent times and still rise again tomorrow.
“It’s not so scary to fail, especially because I failed because I was trying so hard – maybe too hard.
“And maybe after 12 years in a ski career, I should have known how hard to push and not go over that limit, but I pushed harder because I wanted it and that’s not really an excuse.
“I’m going to go out again and try next time, but fewer people will be watching,” she laughs.
After she crashed out of the slalom, the sight of Shiffrin sitting at the side of the slope, her arms on her knees and her head bowed, became one of the enduring images of Beijing 2022.
As one of the greatest to ever put on a pair of skis, Shiffrin has become accustomed to success throughout her career, which includes gold medals from Sochi and Pyeongchang.
However, after suffering her second DNF in the space of three days in Beijing, Shiffrin says she just needed a moment with her thoughts on the hill.

“It’s maybe not as insightful as you might hope,” she says when asked about what she was thinking about in that moment.
“I was feeling cold and I sat down on the snow and I was immediately like: ‘That was a bad, bad idea because now my bum is also cold and wet’ – and I felt really trapped in there.
“I just wanted to get as far out of the line of vision for the other athletes who were still racing and starting in less than a minute, and I was hoping I was far enough to the side because I went out so soon, they were literally in the start.
“I’m like: ‘Oh my gosh, Paula [Moltzan], my teammate, she’s coming pretty soon.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, she’s going to see me, she’s going to freak out.
I just need to get over here and then I need to be still as a stone.’”
In the days that followed her third DNF, Shiffrin posted some of the abusive messages she had received on social media during her time in Beijing.

“Got what you deserved,” “dumb blonde” and “dumb b*tch” were among some of the messages, with others telling her to retire from the sport.
Shiffrin admitted in her Instagram post that she had started to question why she keeps coming back to skiing, but now says the thought of being back atop the podium is driving her to get back out onto the slopes.
“It’s actually a lot of the things I fear the most about myself,” she says. “That I have lost my touch in the sport, that I should give it up … they’re the worst things you think about yourself, yet somebody else just finds a way to push those buttons.
“And you’re like: ‘I want to argue with you, but I just don’t even know what to say.’ I saw one comment today [that said], ‘You’re just a loser and you didn’t contribute anything.’

Shiffrin won a giant slalom in Semmering, Austria, by 13 hundredths of a second over Slovakian Petra Vlhova combining times from two runs. She built a commanding lead of 72 hundredths in the opening run.
It was her first GS win since Dec. 21, 2021, ending her longest victory drought in the discipline in more than six years (eight World Cup races since her last GS victory, with one podium in the last seven).
Vonn, who won 82 times, and Swede Ingemar Stenmark (86) are the only Alpine skiers with more World Cup victories than the 27-year-old Shiffrin.
Vonn has repeated in interviews this year that she believes Shiffrin will break her record and last week was quoted by a German newspaper saying that she believes Shiffrin is already the best female Alpine skier in history.
Semmering holds another GS on Wednesday and a slalom on Thursday — both live on Peacock — as part of a busy stretch of eight World Cup slaloms or giant slaloms

In addition to her 2018 Olympic GS gold, Shiffrin has 15 World Cup GS victories, fourth in women’s history behind Swiss Vreni Schneider (20), Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll (16) and Frenchwoman Tessa Worley (16).

For so much of my career, my story has been told through someone else’s perspective. I am so grateful not only for the media’s interest in sharing my personal journey, but also for sharing this sport that has provided so much passion and joy for my family and me.

That said, most people often only get an in depth glimpse of our sport every four years, when the Olympics roll around. Don’t get me wrong, the Olympics are definitely a big deal, but I feel that there is so, so much more to this amazing sport than what is broadcast every four years…

There’s more to me, and my family, and my life beyond the competitions, the victories, and the losses. Over the years I’ve grown to love giving those of you who are interested a lens into my world, in hopes that it might resonate with someone out there. So, I’m quite excited to share that, later this week, I’ll be launching a YouTube channel and a new content series.

I’m looking forward to giving you deeper insight into my story, from my own perspective. “Moving Right Along” is about more than moving forward from a series of very challenging moments in Beijing, even though that’s where it begins. It’s about learning and growth. It’s about doing the right thing for the right reasons—by “right”, I mean the reasons most important to you and your values—both on the mountain and off the mountain.

There is a lot of talk right now about how athletes are so often defined by their success and failures, but to be honest, I think that extends to almost every human on earth. My belief is that success and failure are both merely guides, meant to help us navigate our journey towards the life we want to live. Maybe that’s naive, but I’ve had my fair share of successes and failures, some more public and exasperating than others.

And here’s the truth about my biggest and most public fail—falling three times at the Olympics is *NOT* the worst or hardest thing that I have experienced in my life, it doesn’t even make the podium. So now it’s time to move forward.

This is (more of) my story, told by yours truly. I hope you enjoy it.

Celiac.com 03/11/2022 – As many of you already know, celiac disease can be associated with quite a few other autoimmune diseases such as lupus, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s, Sjogren’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, etc.
In addition, celiac disease can also be connected with a few hormonal issues such as thyroid disease (specifically Hashimoto’s), adrenal fatigue, and high/low levels of estrogen. 
For those with celiac disease and hormonal issues, some of the symptoms you can experience include hot flashes, insomnia, headaches, weight gain or loss, fatigue,
muscle spasms, heavy menstrual cycles, heart rate changes, and much more. 
There are many ways you can treat hormone imbalances, but many people prefer to first try more natural methods, in the hope of avoiding pharmaceutical medications. For those in this group, nutrition can be an excellent way to help stabilize your body’s estrogen levels and feel better fast. Foods to eat include pistachios, artichokes, cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, and cauliflower), chia and hemp seeds.
Simply by incorporating these nuts, seeds, and vegetables into your daily lifestyle,
you’ll begin to feel more energetic and have less pain. 

Even if you don’t happen to be living an allergen-friendly life, these foods can definitely be beneficial for hormonal regulation. For those with celiac disease, eating gluten-free foods can help reduce the intensity of your thyroid and adrenal fatigue symptoms. 

There are even certain herbs that can be beneficial for your hormone levels, and picking the right ones, of course, will depend on your body’s individual needs. From maca, yarrow, red raspberry, ashwagandha, chase tree, black cohosh, mother wart, mugwort, shepherd’s purse, stinging nettle, to burdock. Choosing the right one may help decrease fatigue, lessen menstrual pain, reduce hot flashes, and ease headaches. Be sure to read up on the known side-effects of any of these herbs before taking them, as they may interfere with other conditions you may have, for example ashwagandha can increase your blood pressure.

Lastly, there are certain types of exercises that can help to alleviate chronic pain and adrenal fatigue. Yoga can be a fantastic way to become flexible, strengthen muscles, and balance estrogen levels. Try working out three times per week doing yoga or light dancing. 
In summary, many people with hormone imbalances can often find relief with basic approaches, such as exercise, nutritional changes, Supplements for celiac disease and adding herbal supplements which can often make a big difference.

Celiac Disease
Celiac disease, also known as gluten-sensitive enteropathy or non-tropical sprue, is an immune-mediated disorder of the small intestine in which individuals are sensitive to gluten, a protein contained in wheat, barley, and rye.
Gluten acts as an antigen, causing an immune response that damages the lining of the small intestine, resulting in malabsorption of fat, calcium, vitamin B12, folate, iron, and other nutrients.
Signs and symptoms sometimes appear upon the introduction of wheat into a child’s diet (usually at age 6-12 months). In children, the presentation may include failure to thrive, delayed growth, irritability, vomiting, constipation, large stools, peripheral edema, clubbing, and frequent respiratory infections. However, the disease may not present until later in life, typically between the ages of 10 and 40. In adults, many cases are asymptomatic, but some patients may have diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal swelling, and bloating.
Affected individuals may also have non-intestinal symptoms. Malabsorption of vitamin D and calcium can result in rickets, osteoporosis, and bone fractures. Iron malabsorption can result in anemia. Amenorrhea, infertility, dermatitis herpetiformis, and neurologic symptoms (e.g., peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, seizures) may occur.

Risk Factors
Celiac disease occurs in people of all ages and ethnicities but appears to be most common in Caucasians of Northern European descent.

Other risk factors include:

Genetics. More than 95% of affected patients have HLA-DQ2 and/or HLA-DQ8 mutations.[1] Celiac disease is found in approximately 1:22 of individuals with affected first-degree family members.[2]
Delayed introduction of gluten into the diet does not appear to alter risk for development of celiac disease in at-risk individuals.[3]

Associated Conditions

Immune disorders. Patients with a history of immune disorders (e.g., IgA deficiency, autoimmune thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, inflammatory bowel diseases) are at increased risk. A significant portion of individuals with type 1 diabetes may have silent celiac disease in which they do not express any overt signs or clinical symptoms of the disease.[4]
Dermatitis herpetiformis is commonly seen in patients with celiac disease.
Down syndrome. The prevalence of celiac disease in patients with Down syndrome is significantly increased in comparison to the general population.[5]

Diagnosis

Diagnosis in infants is suggested by a constellation of diarrhea, failure to thrive, and irritability. In adults, common symptoms include chronic diarrhea, malabsorption, weight loss, and bloating. The diagnosis should be suspected in individuals with unexplainable iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, chronically elevated liver function enzymes, or chronic migraines.
Serologic testing with IgA anti-tissue transglutaminase (TTGA) is the single preferred test for screening for celiac disease. Screening for IgA deficiency with total IgA levels will help rule out a false negative IgA TTGA. When there is a known IgA deficiency, TTGA IgG and deamidated gliadin peptide IgG are helpful.[6],[7] Patients should be on a gluten-rich diet, if possible, prior to any testing for celiac disease.
Small intestine biopsy establishes the diagnosis and should be done to follow up any positive serology test.[5],[8] Typical histological findings include intraepithelial leukocyte infiltration, villous atrophy, and crypt hyperplasia.[9] Biopsy is also performed when there is strong clinical suspicion of celiac disease despite negative serological testing.[9] 
In equivocal cases or when a patient cannot tolerate a gluten-rich diet for at least 2 weeks, HLA haplotype testing may be useful. HLA testing may also be done to determine susceptibility in offspring. Rarely, a follow-up biopsy may be performed for comparison after the patient has followed a gluten-free diet for 3-6 months.
It may also be advisable to evaluate for vitamin and mineral deficiencies once the diagnosis is made. Helpful tests include a complete blood count, serum iron, ferritin, copper, zinc, folate, vitamin B12, and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Treatment
The cornerstone of treatment is dietary adjustment to avoid gluten (see Nutritional Considerations below). In addition to easing symptoms, dietary adjustment may decrease the risk of gastrointestinal malignancies and B-cell lymphoma, which occur in greater frequency in these individuals. In addition, immunosuppressant therapy with corticosteroids may be necessary for patients who do not respond to gluten avoidance. Dapsone has been used to treat associated dermatitis herpetiformis.

LDN is a safe treatment in use for over 2 decades. It has been used to treat a variety of conditions involving immune dysregulation, chronic inflammation, and Celiac disease. Functioning of LDN in the Body There are multiple mechanisms to LDN therapy which work together for producing desired benefits.

Nutritional Considerations
Nutritional adjustments are essential in the management of celiac disease.
The key aspects of treatment are as follows:

Gluten-free diet. A gluten-free diet eliminates wheat, barley, rye, and derivatives of these grains (e.g., farro, semolina, durum, spelt, triticale, and malt). Brewer’s yeast often contains gluten traces from barley. Patients should consult with an experienced dietitian to identify gluten-containing foods and ensure adequate nutrient balance.
The oat grain does not contain gluten.
However, some grain producers inadvertently contaminate oats with gluten-containing grains, prompting some producers to intentionally avoid cross-contamination and to label their products appropriately as gluten free.[10] 
In addition, some individuals with celiac disease do not tolerate even gluten-free oats, due to an immune reaction that is distinct from gluten sensitivity.
Typically, however, oats can be consumed by people with celiac disease. Once the disease has become quiescent, many gastroenterologists will introduce oats to the diet (less than 2 g/day), and patients may eventually be able to tolerate 40-60 g per day (1/2 cup raw oats = 40 g). For patients sensitive to oats, as confirmed by the presence of oat-specific intestinal T cells, avoidance of oats is recommended.
Patients should be aware that 100% gluten avoidance is impossible. Even naturally gluten-free products may contain 20-200 mg gluten/kg. Evidence supports setting the threshold for gluten contamination at 100 mg/kg; the intake of gluten-free flour up to 300 g/day provides 30 mg of gluten, which is within the range found to allow for mucosal recovery

Addressing nutrient deficiencies.
Celiac disease patients’ diets and gluten-free products are often low in B vitamins, calcium, vitamin D, iron, zinc, magnesium, and fiber. [12] Consequently, newly diagnosed or inadequately treated patients often have low bone-mineral density, low fiber intake, and micronutrient deficiencies, despite increased obesity in this population.[12] Patients who have been managed on gluten-free diets sometimes reveal signs of poor nutrient status and impaired calcium absorption.[13],[14],[15] Patient counseling regarding healthful sources of micronutrients is recommended. These may include, but are not limited to, fortified soy milk for calcium and vitamin D and legumes for magnesium and iron.
The prevalence of vitamin B-complex deficiency is between 5-7% of persons with undiagnosed celiac disease, compared with 1-2% in a control population.[16] 
About 5% of patients diagnosed with iron and/or folate deficiency were found to have histologically confirmed celiac disease after endoscopy and biopsy. [17] 
In patients following a gluten-free diet for 10 years, 37% had low blood levels of folate and 20% had low blood levels of vitamin B6. [18] 
Between 20-40% of untreated celiac patients appear to have poor vitamin B12 status. [14],[18]
Deficiencies of fat-soluble vitamins, occurring as a result of malabsorption, are not uncommon. Cases of myopathy and vitamin D deficiency in celiac disease have been reported, and low levels of vitamin E have been implicated in neurologic complications of celiac disease. Vitamin E supplementation and a gluten-free diet reverse the resulting myopathy.[19] 
Malabsorption of vitamin K in untreated celiac disease may also prolong the prothrombin time, requiring parenteral administration of this vitamin.[20]
Nutrition consultation to assist patients with diet changes, with outpatient follow-up as needed.
Once the diagnosis and response to dietary treatment have been established, follow-up may be offered at a dietitian-led clinic.[21]

What to Tell the Family
Family members can help the identified patient avoid gluten-containing foods, recognizing that it is essential to avoid them completely. It is important to read food labels carefully.

A diagnosis of celiac disease has implications for family members, as approximately
10% of first-degree relatives may also be affected. It may be appropriate for relatives
to be screened for celiac disease and to be educated about the condition.[22],[23],[24]

Can’t find your car keys? Forget your grocery list? Can’t remember the name of the personal trainer you liked at the gym? You’re not alone. Everyone forgets things occasionally. Still, memory loss is nothing to take lightly.

Although there are no guarantees when it comes to preventing memory loss or dementia, certain activities might help. Consider seven simple ways to sharpen your memory — and know when to seek help for memory loss.

Memory loss: 7 tips to improve your memory

1. Include physical activity in your daily routine
Physical activity increases blood flow to your whole body, including your brain.
This might help keep your memory sharp.

For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity, such as jogging — preferably spread throughout the week. If you don’t have time for a full workout, squeeze in a few 10-minute walks throughout the day.

2. Stay mentally active
Just as physical activity helps keep your body in shape, mentally stimulating activities help keep your brain in shape — and might keep memory loss at bay. Do crossword puzzles. Play bridge. Take alternate routes when driving. Learn to play a musical instrument. Volunteer at a local school or community organization.

3. Socializing regularly
Social interaction helps ward off depression and stress, both of which can contribute to memory loss. Look for opportunities to get together with loved ones, friends and others — especially if you live alone.

4. Get organized
You’re more likely to forget things if your home is cluttered and your notes are in disarray. Jot down tasks, appointments and other events in a special notebook, calendar or electronic planner.

You might even repeat each entry out loud as you jot it down to help cement it in your memory. Keep to-do lists current and check off items you’ve completed. Set aside a place for your wallet, keys, glasses and other essentials.

Limit distractions and don’t do too many things at once. If you focus on the information that you’re trying to retain, you’re more likely to recall it later. It might also help to connect what you’re trying to retain to a favorite song or another familiar concept.

5. Sleep well
Sleep plays an important role in helping you consolidate your memories, so you can recall them down the road. Make getting enough sleep a priority. Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep a day.

6. Eat a healthy diet
A healthy diet might be as good for your brain as it is for your heart. Eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Choose low-fat protein sources, such as fish, beans and skinless poultry. What you drink counts, too. Too much alcohol can lead to confusion and memory loss. So can drug use.

7. Manage chronic conditions
Follow your doctor’s treatment recommendations for medical conditions, such as depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and hearing loss. The better you take care of yourself, the better your memory is likely to be. In addition, review your medications with your doctor regularly. Various medications can affect memory.

When to seek help for memory loss
If you’re worried about memory loss — especially if memory loss affects your ability to complete your usual daily activities or if you notice your memory getting worse — talk to your doctor. He or she will likely do a physical exam, as well as check your memory and problem-solving skills.

Sometimes other tests are needed as well. Treatment will depend on what’s contributing to your memory loss.

Suspect your memory isn’t what it used to be? You could be right. But the reasons for your cognitive slump might not be the ones you worry about.

“Slow cognitive decline is expected as we get older,” says Joel Salinas, a neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Neurology Henry and Allison McCance Center for Brain Health. What’s not considered a normal or expected part of aging, he says, is dementia — a disease signaled by “more rapid decline in cognitive abilities.”

Many older adults worry about big causes, such as Alzheimer’s, without realizing that, “in fact, many cognitive issues signal more general health problems such as thyroid issues, dehydration or lifestyle issues that can be reversed,” Salinas notes.

Low thyroid functioning, he says, can be experienced as ongoing fatigue and slowed thinking. Too much alcohol can impair memory, and dehydration — often simply not drinking enough water throughout the day — causes too little blood flow to the brain.

Getting at the bottom of what’s affecting your ability to reason, remember or articulate your thoughts is important. To that end, Donna de Levante Raphael, director of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America National Memory Screening Program, says a memory screening, covered by Medicare, should be part of your annual wellness visit. You might find out that your cognitive issues are caused by one of the below factors — and can often be reversed.

Medications
As we age, we tend to add a variety of medications to our daily intake — along with risks of adverse health effects from both individual drugs and the overall mix. One of the most common Rx side effects: cognitive impairment.

Tatyana Gurvich, an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, says that when older adults mention memory problems, the first thing she does is look at the medications they’re taking. Some over-the-counter medications such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), which can create confusion, can be purchased under brand names consumers don’t recognize or hidden in combination products like Advil PM. Medications for overactive bladder or incontinence and those for depression or sleep can, in various combinations, also cause cognitive impairment. Combining any with opioids can make an older adult more confused. “Unfortunately, older adults often take a cocktail of medicines — both over-the-counter and prescription — that can cause major changes in cognition,” says Gurvich, who encourages older adults to talk to their doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs they’re taking before making any changes.

Lack of exercise
Numerous studies show that exercise protects memory and thinking skills. One from the University of British Columbia found that regular aerobic exercise such as running or brisk walking boosts the size of the hippocampus, which stimulates the release of chemicals in the brain that affect the health and supply of brain cells. There’s a negative effect, too, for those who aren’t active: “Not walking or doing other aerobic exercise on a regular basis can cause brain shrinkage and lead to an increase of white matter changes or small injuries to the parts of brain cells that connect with other brain cells,” says Mary Ellen Quiceno, a neurologist and researcher in Dallas.

In good news, the positive effects of exercise on the brain appear to be immediate. A University of Maryland study of brain health in older adults shows that just one session of exercise increases activation in the brain circuits associated with memory. In people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment as well as in cognitively healthy older adults, verbal fluency and measures of brain function improve after just 12 weeks of exercise, says J. Carson Smith, associate professor of kinesiology at Maryland’s School of Public Health. “Being physically active helps protect the brain from cognitive decline and atrophy. Those who are at increased risk through their genetics and don’t exercise tend to have the most problems,” he says, adding that everyone should walk or do other moderately intensive exercise for 30 minutes at least four days a week.

Sleep issues
“Too much sleep or too little high-quality sleep can cause a problem with memory, reasoning and particularly executive function,” Salinas says. As he explains it, during deeper stages of sleep, the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for the formation and retrieval of memories, transfers newly made memories to the prefrontal cortex, a brain area responsible for long-term storage. Without enough shut-eye, this process is disrupted — with sometimes noticeable results.

A University of California Berkeley study found that older people who sleep poorly experience memory loss and brain disorientation. Researchers at Michigan State University’s Sleep and Learning Lab recently found that sleep deprivation doubles your odds of being unable to complete a series of steps without losing your place and triples the number of lapses in attention. “Our findings debunk a common theory suggesting that attention is the only cognitive function affected by sleep deprivation,” says Michelle Stepan, one of the study’s researchers.

Anxiety and depression
If you’re feeling mentally fuzzy, depression or anxiety could be playing a major role. Depression, which the National Institute on Aging says is common in older adults, who tend to be more isolated, can also mimic the signs of memory loss. “When you’re depressed, the serotonin levels in your brain decrease and this can affect attention, processing speed and memory consolidation, causing a ‘pseudodementia’ of depression,” says neurologist Richard Isaacson, director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Research shows that depression and anxiety can also alter our brain physically. A study from Brigham Young University, for instance, shows that subjects with anxiety and depression showed less brain cell growth in key areas compared with those not dealing with such mood disorders.

Humans consider themselves unique so they’ve rooted their whole theory of existence on their uniqueness. One is their unit of measure, but it’s not. All social systems we’ve put into place are a mere sketch. One plus one equals two. That’s all we’ve learned, but one plus one has never equaled two. There are, in fact, no numbers and no letters. We’ve codified our existence to bring it down to human size to make it comprehensible. We’ve created a scale so that we can forget its unfathomable scale. p.s. scientists are not able to explain things happening right now, please lets do not talk about a huge gas cloud a trillion years ago or ‘big bang’. My theory – a trillion years ago there was huge ape and this ape stirred her morning coffee with her pinky – and this is how life has began. Please, prove it wrong.

How did our Moon form? Where did it come from? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, what clues does the Moon hold in regard to the formation of our solar system? These are just a few of the questions that both present and past astronomers have struggled to understand throughout the course of human history. This article addresses these questions through an analysis of four theories pertaining to the Moon’s formation. Although these theories remain to be unproven by the scientific community, they offer a unique perspective on our Moon’s formative years that is both plausible and credible given our current understanding of the solar system at large.

The most prominent theory pertaining to the Moon’s formation is known as the “Impact Theory.” This hypothesis argues that the Moon likely formed from a massive object hitting the Earth during its early years. Scientists believe that the early solar system was full of drifting debris that was left over from the cloud of dust (and gas) that surrounded our early Sun. As a result, scientists believe that an impact between our future Earth and a massive object was not only plausible, but inevitable given the chaotic conditions surrounding our planet at the time (Chaisson and McMillan, 52).
According to scientists, the object that struck Earth (known as “Theia”) was likely the size of Mars. After colliding with the Earth, the massive collision threw large chunks of Earth’s vaporized crust into space, which then became bound to one another through the effects of gravity. This hypothesis helps to explain why the Moon is composed of lighter elements, as its materials came solely from the Earth’s crust rather than its inner core (space.com).
According to this theory, scientists also believe that the core of “Theia” remained largely intact from the impact, and served as the gravitational basis for the crust-like debris to form around its center. Scientific models indicate that the impact between Theia and Earth was nearly 100 million times stronger than the latter event that is believed to have destroyed the dinosaurs.
The impact theory remains full of contradictions and problems, however. If the impact theory was completely true, for example, then-current models suggest that the Moon should be composed of primarily sixty percent of the material that originated from Theia (NASA.gov). However, rock samples from the Apollo missions indicate that the Earth and Moon are nearly identical in their composition, differing in composition by only a few parts per million. As a result, researchers in Israel have recently proposed that multiple impacts may have resulted in the formation of the Moon, rather than a single “Giant Impact,” as previously argued.

Another theory pertaining to the Moon’s formation is the “co-formation” hypothesis. This theory suggests that our Moon may have formed at the same time as Earth. According to the researcher, Robin Canup (an advocate of the co-formation theory), the Moon and Earth likely formed after the collision of two similar-sized bodies, both of which were approximately five times the size of Mars. After colliding and re-colliding with one another, this theory argues that the Earth would have been “surrounded by a disk of material that [later] combined to form the moon” (space.com). By colliding and partially merging with one another, this theory helps to explain the similarity of the Earth and Moon’s chemical compositions.
One major problem with this theory, however, is that the Moon’s overall density is quite different from the Earth. This, in turn, calls into question the idea that both the Earth and Moon formed from the same pre-planetary material. This hypothesis, which was once favored by many astronomers, therefore, is difficult to follow and has been relegated by the scientific community in more recent years (Slawson, 23).

Another scientific theory for the Moon’s formation is the “Capture Theory” which suggests that the Moon may have been snagged by the gravitational pull of the Earth at one point in its early history. Similar to the moons “Phobos and Deimos” that surround Mars, this theory suggests that the Moon may have formed outside of the solar system and eventually drifted towards Earth, where it was then drawn into the planet’s orbit. Other scientists have also hypothesized that the Moon may have been snagged from Venus’s orbit, which would explain the absence of moons around Venus. Such theories remain only speculative at this time (NASA.gov).
A major problem with this theory, however, is that captured moons often exhibit highly elliptical orbits. Moreover, captured moons are often oddly shaped (such as Phobos and Deimos) rather than the spherical dimensions of our current moon. According to other mathematical models, the capture of such a large moon (relative to the Earth’s size and mass) is also implausible, if not impossible (Owlcation.com). For such an event to occur, mathematical models demonstrate that the capture would have only had a small window of opportunity, requiring an extraordinarily precise location for the capture to occur. Given the similarities between the Moon and Earth’s mantle, it is also unlikely that the two bodies formed independently from one another.

A fourth and final theory pertaining to the Moon’s formation is known as the “Daughter Theory.” This theory, which is far older and less-accepted by the scientific community posits that the Moon developed from the Earth itself. Advocates of this hypothesis suggest that the Moon may have originated from the Pacific Ocean basin. Scientists suggest that such a scenario would have occurred during the early years of Earth’s formation, when it was still a molten world and locked in a rapid rotational cycle (NASA.gov). This rapid rotation, they argue, may have resulted in the ejection of a massive object from the current Pacific Ocean basin, resulting in our current Moon.
Problems with this theory are numerous, as scientists remain unsure as to how the Earth could have been spinning so fast that a Moon-sized object was ejected from its exterior. Moreover, the possibility of a Moon-sized object being ejected from the Earth and following a stable orbit, afterwards, is also unlikely given that current mathematical models simply do no support the probabilities (space.com).

In closing, scientists continue to debate the origins of the Moon as no single model can account entirely for its overall formation. As with any scientific study, additional information will eventually shed greater light on the Moon’s formation. Although lunar expeditions from the Sixties and Seventies provided vital clues to the composition of the Moon’s surface and interior, further investigation of its surface is needed as the Moon’s chemical and physical composition is still poorly understood by the scientific community. With advances in technology, future expeditions to the lunar surface may be extremely beneficial to understanding the Moon’s formation. Only time will tell what new information arises about Earth’s closest neighbor.

Early on in the development of our solar system. When planet Theta collided with the young Earth. The message made. Combined over a long period of time into our moon. What Causes Tides?

Ocean tides are caused by the Moon’s gravitational pull. But why does the water also rise on the side of Earth that faces away from the Moon?

Moon Plays the Biggest Role
While both the Moon and the Sun influence the ocean tides, the Moon plays the biggest role. Although the Sun’s gravitational pull on the Earth is 178 times stronger than the Moon’s, the tidal bulges it causes are much smaller.
This is because, contrary to common belief, tides are not caused by the gravitational forces of the Moon or the Sun lifting up the oceans—their gravitational pull is much too weak for that. Rather, tides are created because the strength and direction of the gravitational pull varies depending on where on Earth you are. This variation creates the differential forces or tidal forces that in turn cause tides.
The tidal forces of the Moon are much stronger than the Sun’s because it is so much closer to our planet, causing a much greater variation in the gravitational force from one location to another. The Sun’s gravitational force, on the other hand, varies much less because the Sun is so far away.

The Oceans Bulge
The overall effect of these tidal forces is to “squeeze” the oceans, and produce two tidal bulges on opposite sides of the Earth—one facing the Moon and a slightly smaller one facing away from the Moon (see illustration). Due to Earth’s rotation, the two bulges act like two expansive “waves” continuously undulating around our planet.
Topography Causes Variation
Mid-ocean, each tidal “wave” is just under a meter high, compared to the water level of the two troughs between them. However, the variation between high and low tide is very different from place to place. It can range from almost no difference to over 16 meters (over 50 feet).
This is because the water in the oceans is constrained by the shape and distance between the continents as well as varying ocean depths. As a result, the tides behave more like water sloshing around in an oddly shaped bathtub than in a smooth and even basin. In some places, the water flows freely and quickly, while in other areas, where the water has to pass through narrow channels, it moves more slowly.

High and Low Nearly Twice a Day
Tides are one of the most reliable phenomena in the world, and we know that they move in and out around twice a day, but not exactly. So, why is that?
A day on Earth is the time it takes our planet to spin once around its own axis in relation to the Sun. This is known as a solar day, and it lasts around 24 hours.
However, the time it takes Earth to reach the same position in relation to the Moon is, on average, 24 hours and 50 minutes, known as a lunar day. The reason the lunar day is longer than a solar day is that the Moon revolves around Earth in the same direction as Earth rotates around its axis, so it takes Earth, on average, an additional 50 minutes to “catch up” to the Moon.
Because the tidal force of the Moon is more than twice as strong as the Sun’s, the tides follow the lunar day, not the solar day. It takes half a lunar day, on average 12 hours and 25 minutes, from one high tide to the next, so we have high and low tides nearly twice a day.
According to the National Ocean Service, there are some exceptions to the main rule of two tides every lunar day. Along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, there is only one tide per day due to the local shoreline topography, among other things. This tidal cycle is called a diurnal cycle, as opposed to the normal semidiurnal cycle, where diurnal means daily and semi means half.

Continents Affect Tidal Lag
While in theory, the tidal bulges follow the Moon’s position on its orbit around the Earth, the depth and shape of the ocean and the distance between continents are also important in determining when the tide rolls in and out. The time that passes between the passage of the Moon and the onset of the high tide is called the tidal lag.
In the Southern Ocean, where tidal bulges can move relatively freely, the tidal lag may be around two hours. On the other hand, the tidal lag in the North Sea—a part of the Atlantic Ocean bounded by continental Europe and the British Isles—can be about two days.

Gradual Ebb and Flow
The change from low to high tide is known as flood tide, while the change from high to low tide is called ebb tide. The technical term for the difference in water level between high tide and low tide is tidal range.
The flow and ebb are gradual, so it is not accurate to say that a high or low tide lasts around 6 hours and 12 minutes, i.e. a quarter of a lunar day. The speed of the water flow varies during this period, and it also varies from place to place.
The Rule of 12ths
People who have to consider the tides in their daily life, like sailors, fishers, and surfers, often use what is called the rule of 12ths to calculate the expected water level.

This rule states that in the 1st hour after low tide the water level will rise by 1/12 of the predicted tidal range in any given area. In the 2nd hour, it will rise 2/12, and in the 3rd hour, it will rise 3/12. In the 4th hour, it will also rise 3/12, in the 5th, it will rise 2/12, and in the 6th hour, it will rise 1/12.
The sequence to remember is 1-2-3-3-2-1.
So, let’s say the predicted tidal range is 12 feet. In the 1st hour, the tide would rise 1 foot. In the 2nd hour, it would rise 2 feet. In the 3rd and 4th hours, it would rise 3 feet. In the 5th hour, the tide would rise 2 feet, and in the 6th hour, 1 foot.

Storm Tides and Surge
The astronomical forces that drive the tides can be predicted very accurately, and these predictions are published in local tidal tables. However, different weather conditions also affect the sea level and may cause both lower and higher tides than expected. If there is a storm, the seawater level often increases. This is called a storm tide and is caused by a combination of storm surge and normal tidal movement.
Strong offshore winds can move water away from coastlines, exaggerating the low tide. At the same time, onshore winds may cause the water to pile up onto the shoreline, making the low tide higher than usual.
High-pressure weather systems can lead to days with exceptionally low tides. In contrast, low-pressure systems may contribute to causing much higher tides than predicted.

Average and Extreme Tides
The average tidal range in mid-ocean is around 1 meter or 3 feet. However, in some coastal areas, the tidal range can be more than 10 times higher in the most extreme regions. To give an average for tidal range along the world’s coastlines doesn’t make much sense, as they vary so much from place to place.

The world’s highest tide is in the Bay of Fundy in Canada, where the difference between low and high tide can be up to 16.3 meters (53.5 feet). The highest tides in the US can reach 12.2 meters (40 feet) near Anchorage, Alaska. Along the coast of the UK, the tidal range varies from as little as 0.5 meters (1.6 feet) to a maximum of 15 meters (50 feet).
Spring Tides
The Moon phase also plays a part in the tidal range. The greatest difference between high and low tide is around New Moon and Full Moon. During these Moon phases, the solar tide coincides with the lunar tide because the Sun and the Moon are aligned with Earth, and their gravitational forces combine to pull the ocean’s water in the same direction. These tides are known as spring tides or king tides. The name has nothing to do with the season spring, but rather it is a synonym for jump or leap.
An equinoctial spring tide is a spring tide that coincides with either the March equinox or the September equinox, when the Sun is directly above the Earth’s equator. These spring tides usually have an even greater tidal range.

Perigean and Apogean Spring Tides
Several times a year, the Full Moon or New Moon happens as the Moon is around its closest point to Earth, called perigee. This is popularly known as a Supermoon and leads to even larger variation between high and low tides, known as perigean spring tides. However, the difference from a normal spring tide is only around 5 cm or 2 inches.
The opposite happens when the Full or New Moon is around its farthest from Earth, apogee, also known as Micromoon. The apogean spring tides are around 5 cm (2 inches) smaller than regular spring tides.

Neap Tides
The tidal range is smallest around the Quarter Moons /Half Moons because the gravitational force from the Moon and the Sun counteract each other at these 2 points of the lunar month. These tides are called neap tides or neaps, from Anglo-Saxon, meaning without the power. Neaps always occur about 7 days after spring tides.
Oceans and Some Rivers
There is a difference between having noticeable tides and having true tides. For tides to be noticeable, the body of water has to be huge, like an ocean. Even though true tides also occur in smaller water basins, like big lakes, the tidal variations here are too small to notice.
For example, in the Great Lakes in the US, the largest tidal range is less than 5 cm or just under 2 inches. Different weather conditions, such as wind and barometric pressure, creates bigger differences in the water level than tides on these lakes. This is also the case in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, and even the Mediterranean.
Many rivers connecting to the ocean do have high and low tides. In some of these tidal rivers, the water drains away almost entirely at low tide, making it possible to walk across the bottom of the river. If a part of a larger river is affected by the tides, the section affected is known as tidal reach.

In a few areas, where the tide comes into a narrow bay or river, tidal bores can form. Created by the incoming tide, tidal bores are waves which travel against the direction of the water current.
Tides in the Human Body?
Many people believe that the Moon’s gravitational force also affects humans, as our bodies are made up of approximately 70% fluid. However, there is no scientific evidence supporting this belief. The short answer is that the Moon’s gravity pulls the oceans (and us) towards it. Even though the Moon is so far away, it is large enough that its force of gravity is strong enough to do that.
But before we get into how the Moon affects tides, let’s look at what tides are.
Tides are the rise and fall of water level in the oceans (and lakes, and even in your cup of water, but they’re very small).
When the sea level rises to its highest point, we call that high tide. When it falls to its lowest point, that’s called low tide.
The rise and fall of the tides is known as the tide cycle. If there’s one high tide and one low tide a day, like you would see if you went on holiday to Perth, it’s called a diurnal tide cycle. If there are two high tides and two low tides, like you see in Victoria, it’s called a semi-diurnal tide cycle.
The Moon has the most effect on the tides, but it’s not the only factor that affects them. The Sun and the Earth can also affect the tides. We’ll start with the Moon.

Tides and the Moon
The Moon affects the tides because of gravity. You will have noticed that every time you jump, you always land back on the ground. This is because the Earth’s gravity is pulling you back down.

The Earth’s spinning means that another high tide occurs on the opposite side of the Earth to the Moon.

The Moon’s gravitational pull on us is much weaker than Earth’s, so we don’t really notice it, but we can see the Moon’s effect on the liquid water of the oceans.
The oceans are pulled towards the Moon’s gravity slightly, causing a bulge or high tide on the side of the Earth closest to the Moon.

The Earth’s effect
If the Moon causes a high tide on one side of the Earth, what causes the high tide on the other side?
The Earth is spinning, which is why we have night and day. The Earth’s spinning means that another high tide occurs on the opposite side of the Earth to the Moon.
These two high tides draw water away from the rest of the oceans, causing two low tides between the high tides.

The Sun
The Sun, just like the Moon and the Earth, also has its own gravity that can affect the tides.
Although the Sun is much larger than the Moon and has more gravity, it’s also much further away, meaning its pull on the tides is less than half as strong as the Moon’s.
It still does have an effect, though. When the Sun and Moon are in line with the Earth (when a full moon or new moon occur), their combined gravity causes very high tides (and very low tides), known as “spring tides”.
When the Sun and Moon are at right angles to each other (during a waxing or waning moon), the Sun helps to cancel out the pull of gravity from the Moon, causing lower high tides and higher than average low tides, known as “neap tides”.
