UP YOUR ENERGY

Why are there so many people that are suffering with health issues today?

There is one thing that causes people to have more health issues, and it is STRESS. There has been a lot written on stress, and I do believe there will be a time when medical science has proven that the majority of diseases are caused by stress. Stress actually prevents the absorption vitamin D which is actually a hormone.

Vitamin D is very important for strong bones. Calcium and phosphorus are essential for developing the structure and strength of your bones, and you need vitamin D to absorb these minerals. Even if you eat foods that contain a lot of calcium and phosphorus, without enough vitamin D, you can’t absorb them into your body. Vitamin D is important for general good health, and researchers now are discovering that vitamin D may be important for many other reasons outside of good bone health. Some of the functions of the body that vitamin D helps with include:

  • Immune system, which helps you to fight infection
  • Muscle function
  • Cardiovascular function, for a healthy heart and circulation
  • Respiratory system –for healthy lungs and airways
  • Brain development
  • Anti-cancer effects

Doctors are still working to fully understand how vitamin D works within your body and how it affects your overall health.

How does Vitamin D work?

Vitamin D manages calcium in your blood, bones and gut and helps cells all over your body to communicate properly.

Vitamin D mainly comes from your skin when it is exposed to sunlight. After that, your body goes through a number of chemical processes to change it so that your body can use it.

When your skin is exposed to the sun, it produces vitamin D and sends it to your liver. If you take supplements or eat foods that contain vitamin D, your gut also sends the vitamin D to your liver. From here, your liver changes it to a substance called 25(OH)D. When your doctor talks about your vitamin D levels, he means the amount of 25(OH)D you have in your blood.

This chemical is sent all over your body where different tissues, including your kidney, turn it into activated vitamin D. This activated vitamin D is now ready to perform its duties. From here, it gets a little complicated, but you can think of activated vitamin D working in two ways:

  1. Manages calcium in your blood, bones and gut
  2. Helps cells all over your body to communicate properly

As you can see, vitamin D goes a long way from its original form from the skin, supplement or food. But without vitamin D, your body can’t perform at its best.

See our ‘How to get the vitamin D your body needs’ page to learn more about getting enough vitamin D.

So if stress is causing all of these issues what can be done?

People need to learn how to chill. Really relax. Relaxing is an art and so many people have forgotten what they naturally knew at one time how to do. Everybody comes into this world with the ability to relax and then we condition ourselves for stress. When we are stressed our fight or flight kicks in and blood is pumped to our bones and muscles leaving us susceptible to disease. I believe that one of the main culprits for this stress is all of the negative information we put into our minds. We fill our minds with violence and negative news and we wonder why we are feeling more and more stressed. I made a choice not to watch the news or talk radio. Many of the things on TV are not helping us live a happy and fulfilled life it is filling our minds with garbage. And as the saying goes garbage in garbage out.
.

Learning meditation is one of the most powerful ways to reduce stress they have been so many studies on meditation. An easy way to start is to repeat a word over for 20 minutes. If there are any thoughts that come up as you do this you simply bring your mind back to the present moment and continue to state your mantra. I do a lot of Journaling 🙂

The first thing is to bring the awareness to how you feel. We know that emotions drive those thoughts that pop into your mind seemingly out of nowhere. Your emotional state or attitude is a key to your thoughts and behaviors. One of the ways you can bring awareness to your thoughts and emotions is to set a reminder on your phone. You can program your phone so that that reminder goes off at different times in the day. As you condition your mind to become aware of what you are thinking and what you are feeling at any given moment you have one of the greatest tools of personal development at your fingertips the power of awareness, awareness bring choice. I love what one of my mentors once taught me, he said that limiting beliefs cannot exist in your presence they can only exist in your absence.

Once you have awareness and you make a choice to feel differently then what do you do?

You do a simple exercise. You think back to a time in your life when you had high energy. When you really felt you were crushing it. Then you replay the best parts of that over and over in your mind you do this until you begin to feel better. As you consistently do this over a 30 day period you begin to shift what I call your emotional thermostat. Make sure to make the colors, size and speed, brighter, bigger and play the memory faster in your mind. Brendon Burchard always says the power plant doesn’t have energy it generates it. This truly has the power to change your life. If you can shift how you feel you change how you think and what you do. All is rooted in emotion even your overall health and wellbeing.

10 things you can do to improve your energy and vitality

  1. Be in the moment.

Being in the moment can be life changing and can really bring so much joy into your life. If you are in the past or the future, who is here in the present? If you are not present who or what is running the show in your absence? If you are not in the now, you are being controlled by your conditioning of the past. Have you ever been driving down a road and noticed that you do not remember the last 5-10 minutes of driving? If you have ever experienced this then you know what I am talking about. How is it that you made the correct turn signals you made all the stops and did what you needed to do? You were able to do all of that because of conditioning. Because of the habits that you have created before this event took place. If you have cultivated great habits then you are headed towards a better future. Whether you have cultivated great habits or not, it is always a good idea to be in the here and now where choice exists. You have greatness within you but that greatness is simply a seed or a sleeping giant. It is waiting for your intentional mind to bring it to life.

2. Drink more water.

This may sound simplistic but I cannot tell you how many people are walking around dehydrated. A dear friend of mind I will call her. Jeanne to protect her identity was breast feeding and she was really active was living off of one cup of water a day! She very quickly developed a painful kidney stones. If you do not think that water is important just try to go without it for a few days. Having clean and pure water is essential to living the life of a High Performer!

3. Breathe Deeply.

Just breathe, so often people breathe so shallowly. They yawn constantly not because they are tired but because their bodies are screaming for oxygen! Just take a moment and fill your lungs with 3 deep breaths. What would happen to your energy if you breathed more fully and openly more consistently? There have been many studies done on breathing and breathing deeply, smoothly and fully is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get the mind and body out of the fight or flight mode and into a zen like state.

4. Walk more often.

Walking for 30 minutes a day can greatly increase your overall sense of well being. Our bodies were made for movement. Sitting is the new smoking. We know that as we move our bodies the water within us is purified and our vitality goes up. Water that is still stagnates and so it is with the mind and body and soul.

5. A Gratitude Attitude.

If there is one thing that can change your life faster than anything else it is gratitude. Gratitude is a great force for good. Virtually every good quality comes only after gratitude. Abundance can and will come into your life if gratitude is shown. Gratitude is a light. Imagine a room that is in darkness. Now imagine a room where there is light. No imagine those two rooms are side by side and they are connected with a hole in the wall. Now notice that the room that has light the light can travel into the room where there is darkness but the darkness cannot travel into the room where there is light. Try this for example. State all the things that you are truly grateful for, do not stop until you feel the energy of gratitude. Once you feel the energy of gratitude the next step is to try and feel negative feelings. You will find it very difficult if not impossible to do.

6. Show love and praise others more often.

Recently I heard of a 5 year old girl that passed away. She was stuck by a truck. When I heard this story my mind went to my own family. There are so many people in this world that are craving love. We all need to fill loved and appreciated. And how does it make you feel when you show sincere love and appreciation to others? More love and appreciation comes back to you. Loving yourself and loving and serving others is the key to all the riches life holds for each of us. To get to the better life we must learn to love and serve others more.

7. Service to others.

If you want to find yourself lose yourself in the service of others. We will find the connection that we have to others and the universe as we learn to love and serve others. Service can be something small a compliment a hug kind words and kind deeds are small and simple things yet they can make a huge difference in your life and the lives of those you reach. If you want energy and strength beyond your own serving and loving others is the way to get there. But let your love be pure.

8. Connect with God.

God is good. God is love. God is understanding. We all have challenges in our lives we all have our own personal struggles that have the tendency to create great heartache but as we focus on the fact that we have a heavenly Father that loves us beyond our ability to understand. If we believed this wouldn’t we all be a little more kind to ourselves and also others.

The best coaches that I know have very strong spiritual beliefs about who they are and what their purpose is. The illusion is that you have to do something to be connected with God. The reality is you always are connected to God. Just by being who you are. One of the best pieces of advice that a friend of mine ever gave me is when you wake up in the morning have a chair for you and a chair for God and interview God. Ask him what he would have you do and say today. As I have strived to do this every day it is amazing the thoughts and inspiration that comes through me.

9. Live your life with love.

Pure love will always succeed. If we always act out of love our lives will unfold in amazing ways.

Think of one friend or family member that you could write a kind note to and let them know that you love them.

10. Trust that there is a plan and a mission for your life.

Life does have a purpose. I do believe that to be true. We each have a plan. Some strive to find their plan and once they find it live it. Others shrink at the task before them or deny that there life has meaning. Our lives have meaning and purpose, if we listen in those quite moments of inspiration we will hear and feel what we need to do to fulfill our life mission and plan. As I have found my life purpose and plan and have helped other people find theirs I have yet to find someone whose life plan and mission does not involve loving and serving others.

** By following these suggestions I know your energy will improve greatly. I challenge you to do these simple things consistently over the next 30 days! Good Luck! http://www.achievetoday.com/single-post/2016/1/13/How-to-10X-Your-Energy

Reduce Stress By Being Humble

When you are on the journey to improve your life, be sure to consider the importance that humbleness plays in enriching your experience and reducing stress. Before we start, toss away your initial thoughts when you hear the word ‘humble.’ Being humble does not mean poor, submissive, unimportant or lowliness. Being humble increases positive traits such as being selfless, being understanding, role modeling, effectively coping, living peacefully and viewing the world openly. The following sections may help you see how incorporating a little humbleness into the different areas of your life will enrich you and decrease your stress.
.

HELPING. The boss asks you, ‘Did you help Mary with her presentation?’ Do you reply, “I helped her tweak it a little’ or do you say, ‘I practically did the whole thing. I decided on the content, made the outline and edited it for her.’ The first response is modest and humble rather than boastful like the second. Humble people are comfortable working behind the scenes and do not seek or need praise, admiration or commendation for any of their acts. The boastful response causes this person to feel more stress because it is all about trying to get recognition and building up their own self worth and self esteem.

Stress levels increase when a person can only get their own needs met when they are praised or rewarded for good deeds or in some cases, putting another person down. Can you think of times when you responded either of these ways? How will you respond the next time?

UNDERSTANDING. You are an experienced employee orienting someone to a job and notice they are using a different method to complete a procedure. Do you continue to watch and see if they are successful or do you immediately interrupt and say, ‘I developed a procedure and everyone here does it my way, don’t make that mistake again? Do it the way I told you.’

A humble person does not need others to conform to their preferred method of doing things or remind others of their past accomplishments. If you are rigid, conceited and approach others with arrogance, it is stressful for you because you are constantly in fear of losing control or someone else taking the spot light off of you. Do you know anyone like this? Are you like this? Is there anything you would like to change about yourself?

MODEL HUMBLENESS. Jane was hired as a gofer to work on a project with a group of young people, many of whom were new graduates. Jane’s duties included typing, answering the phone, arranging appointments and yes, even getting coffee for the group.

After five months, a group member said, ‘You sure know a lot about this project. You always seem to be able to organize our reports and research so effectively. You have always been so kind and obliging. We all just love you. Did you work in this field before?’ Jane replied, ‘Yes, I did.’ The group member asked, ‘Do you have any education in this field?’ Jane replied, ‘Yes, I have a Masters’ Degree.’ The group member responded, ‘Wow, I can’t believe you never told us! I would have been bragging about it every day!’

Even when a humble person has more education and experience in a particular area, they do not feel the need to ‘flash it.’ Does this type of situation sound familiar to you? Do you know anyone who is quiet about their skills? If yes, do they tend to be relaxed? Do you know someone who is always bragging about their skills? If yes, do they appear relaxed or stressed?

BETTER COPING. Studies report that humble leaders and employees are more effective, efficient and liked more than those whose approach is arrogant. Humble employers and employees incorporate more honesty into their work life and know their own limits. They do not try to ‘fake it until they make it.’

Studies identify a willingness of leaders and employees to openly share their own mistakes, openly share their own limitations and weaknesses, a willingness to ask for assistance when needed, modeling behaviors that show respect, encourages others and promote openness as key elements of humbleness that reduce stress.

Humble leaders and employees experience less stress because they do not try to do everything themselves, hesitate to ask for help or blame others when things go wrong. Honesty in the work place prevents stress and is another important element of humbleness. This type of approach promotes job satisfaction, job retention, job effectiveness and efficiency and reduces stress among all team members.

LIVE PEACEFULLY. Humble people experience more peace and less stress in their life because they have more self control. They know life is not just about them. They are less self centered and less selfish. Focusing on others takes the focus and stress off of themselves. They tend to be more in control of their emotions and behaviors because their expectations are more realistic and they are not always trying to be a star. They tend to recognize their limits and do not waste time and energy on fruitful tasks. This does not mean they apathetically accept the status quo. They experience less stress because they know what and when something needs to be challenged and have the wisdom to choose their challenges carefully.

EMBRACE DIFFERENCES. Humble people embrace differences. They accept others for who they are and therefore, tend to have better relationships with family, friends, co-workers and community partners because they are not always trying to change them which can cause a lot of stress. Humble people are not prejudiced, are tolerant of others’ beliefs and values, accept others’ differences even when different from their own and they do not place a lesser value on any human being simply because they are different. They do not believe they are entitled to be treated better or valued more by society than anyone else. They believe everyone is equal no matter what their differences.

7 Tips for Mind-Body Balance

One of the guiding principles of mind-body medicine is the interconnection of all things, including the mind, the body, and the environment in which we live. Each of us is an inseparable part of an infinite field of intelligence, and in this very moment, with every breath, we are exchanging millions of atoms with the universe.

From this holistic perspective, health isn’t merely the absence of disease or symptoms; it is a state of optimal wellbeing, vitality, and wholeness. We are healthy when we’re able to fully digest everything we take in, extracting what is nourishing and eliminating whatever doesn’t serve us. This includes our food, our relationships, our jobs, and all our life experiences. Illness, in contrast, develops when there is a disruption ― a blockage in the flow of energy and information in our bodymind. Symptoms and sickness are the body’s signal that we need to restore balance, eliminate whatever is causing the blockages, and reestablish the healthy flow of intelligence.

The Mind-Body Connection

Since the body and mind are inextricably connected, every time we have a thought, we set off a cascade of cellular reactions in our nervous system that influence all the molecules in our body. Our cells are constantly observing our thoughts and being changed by them.

Each day at the Chopra Center, we see guests who reinforce our view that our thoughts and choices and experiences influence our tendency to be healthy or become ill. A man in a toxic work environment has incapacitating headaches that don’t respond to multiple medications. A woman decides she will no longer accept her boyfriend’s demeaning behavior, and her debilitating panic attacks “mysteriously” subside.

Of course, this is not to say that all illnesses are “caused” by our thoughts. The relationship between the mind and body is complex, and sometimes things happen at a physical level for which we don’t have a plausible explanation. We have to acknowledge that we may have an inherent tendency for health or imbalance, and in some cases, genetic inheritance is the major factor underlying an illness. At the same time, we have amazing potential to heal and transform ourselves through our thoughts, perceptions, and choices. The body is a magnificent network of intelligence, capable of far more than current medical science can explain.

Cultivating Balance

Establishing a healthy dialogue between our thoughts and our molecules helps us shift from imbalance to balance. And when we’re in an optimal state of dynamic balance, we naturally tend to listen to our body with love and reverence and make choices that support balance, happiness, and wellbeing. The following seven mind-body prescriptions will help you create this positive feedback loop:

  1. Take time each day to quiet your mind and meditate.

Meditation is one of the most powerful tools for restoring balance to our mind and body. In meditation, you experience a state of restful awareness in which your body is resting deeply while your mind is awake though quiet. In the silence of awareness, the mind lets go of old patterns of thinking and feeling and learns to heal itself. Scientific research on meditation is accelerating with the growing awareness of meditation’s numerous benefits, including a decrease in hypertension, heart disease, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and addictive behaviors.A groundbreaking study by Massachusetts General Hospital found that as little as eight weeks of meditation not only helped people feel calmer but also produced changes in various areas of the brain, including growth in the areas associated with memory, empathy, sense of self, and stress regulation.

Meditation brings us home to the peace of present moment awareness and gives us an experience of profound relaxation that dissolves fatigue and long-standing stresses. In our experience at the Chopra Center, the most powerful benefits of meditation come from having a regular, daily practice.

The Chopra Center offers instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation, a mantra-based meditation practice that is easy for anyone can learn. You can receive instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation and your personal mantra at any Chopra Center program – or click here to find a Chopra Center–certified meditation teacher in your area.

  2. Each day eat a healthy diet that includes the six Ayurvedic tastes and a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables.

Next to breathing, eating is our most vital bodily function. To create a healthy body and mind, our food must be nourishing. Ideal nutrition comes from consuming a variety of foods that are appropriately prepared and eaten with awareness.

A simple way to make sure that you are getting a balanced diet is to include the six tastes (sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter, and astringent) in each meal. The typical American diet tends to be dominated by the sweet, sour, and salty tastes (the main flavors of a hamburger). We do need these tastes, but they can lower metabolism especially if eaten in excess.

The pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes, on the other hand, are anti-inflammatory and increase metabolism. These tastes are found in food such as radishes, ginger, mustard, peppers, spinach, mushrooms, tea, lentils lettuce, and so on. You can find more information on the six tastes here.

In addition to including the six tastes in each meal, focus on eating a variety of fresh and freshly prepared foods, while eliminating or at least limiting items that are canned, frozen, microwaved, or highly processed. These are “dead” foods that weaken health and accelerate aging.

  3. Move your body: Engage in daily exercise.

Regular exercise offers incredible benefits for your body and mind. Drs. William Evans and Irwin Rosenberg from Tufts University have documented the powerful effect of exercise on many of the biomarkers of aging, including muscle mass, strength, aerobic capacity, bone density, and cholesterol.

Not only does exercise keep the body young, but it also keeps the mind vital and promotes emotional wellbeing. In his book Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain, Harvard University professor John Ratey, M.D. describes research showing that physical activity sparks biological changes that increase the brain’s ability to learn, adapt, and perform other cognitive tasks. Exercise can reverse the detrimental effects of stress and lift depression.

A complete fitness program includes exercises to develop flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, and strength training. Find an aerobic activity that you enjoy and will be able to three to four times each week for twenty to thirty minutes. After your body is warmed up, spend five to ten minutes stretching. Be sure to include strength training in your program to systematically exercise the major muscle groups of your body. The key is to start off slowly, find physical activities you like, and do them regularly. You will be surprised how quickly you increase your endurance and enthusiasm for moving and breathing.

  4. Take time for restful sleep.

Restful sleep is essential key to having health and vital energy. When you’re well-rested, you can approach stressful situations more calmly, yet sleep is so often neglected or underemphasized. There is even a tendency for people to boast about how little sleep they can get by on. In reality, over time, inadequate sleep disrupts the body’s innate balance, weakens our immune system, contributes to weight gain and depression, and speeds up the aging process.

Human beings generally need between six and eight hours of restful sleep each night. Restful sleep means that you’re not using pharmaceuticals or alcohol to get to sleep but that you’re drifting off easily once you turn off the light and are sleeping soundly through the night. If you feel energetic and vibrant when you wake up, you had a night of restful sleep. If you feel tired and unenthusiastic, you haven’t had restful sleep. You can get the highest quality sleep by keeping your sleep cycles in tune with the rhythms of the universe, known as circadian rhythms. At the Chopra Center, we find that if people can commit to a consistent sleep ritual, they can usually retrain their mind to experience healthy sleep patterns. Find recommendations for a restful sleep routine here.

  5. Release emotional toxins.

Many of us harbor emotional toxicity in the form of unprocessed anger, hurt or disappointment. This unprocessed residue from the past contributes to toxicity in our body and needs to be eliminated. You can begin by asking yourself, “What am I holding onto from the past that is no longer serving me in the present?”

Once you have identified what you want to release, spend some time journaling about how your life will be different when you change. Then you can do a specific releasing ritual that declares to yourself and to the world that you are letting go of whatever it is you’ve been holding on to. If you need more help in this area, consider attending the Healing the Heart workshop at the Chopra Center. In a nurturing, supportive environment, you will be guided intensive, loving process to release emotional pain and then fill the newly created space in your heart with love and self-nurturing behaviors.

  6. Cultivate loving relationships.

Research shows that a good social support network has numerous physical and mental health benefits. It can keep you from feeling lonely, isolated or inadequate and if you feel good about yourself, you can deal with stress better. Friends and loved ones can be a good source of advice and suggest new ways of handling problems. But they can also be an excellent distraction from what’s bothering you. If your network of friends is small, think about volunteering, joining an outdoor activities group or trying an online meet-up group to make new friends.

  7. Enjoy a good belly-laugh at least once a day.

From the scientific perspective, laughter is an elegant mind-body phenomenon that reduces the production of stress hormones and boosts the immune system.

Researchers in Japan found that people with rheumatoid arthritis who watched “rakugo” or comic storytelling experienced a significant decrease in their pain and stress hormone levels as well as an increase in two immune-enhancing

The Autonomic Nervous System

Yin and Yang is fundamental to the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in terms of understanding, diagnosing, and treating health issues. At the most basic and deep level, TCM treatment seeks to balance ….Yin and Yang in each person. One ancient T.C.M. text expressed the power and importance of Yin and Yang this way: “If you can understand Yin and Yang you can hold the universe in your hands.” http://www.tcmworld.org/what-is-tcm/yin-yang-theory/

“Everything that appears in the physical realm is always connected with energy flow at the invisible level.” – Nan Lu!!! 🙂

I remember taking a trip to Amish Country in Holmes County OHIO around Thanksgiving 2015 to visit a Facebook Friend and meet a Amish healer whom has worked on many an Amish person. When I ask Jake the Healer about is experience with Herbs and Cancer. I was stunned to realize when his response was he seen better results with Nicholas Gonzalez’s research then any herb that ever was used.
.
Therefore, It was with great sadness just a few months prior that the office of Nicholas J. Gonzalez, M.D. relayed news of Dr. Gonzalez’s untimely death on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. The cause of death was cardiac related, it appears, as he suddenly collapsed and was unable to be revived. Dr. Gonzalez was in excellent health otherwise so his passing is quite unexpected. Dr. Gonzalez was best known as a pioneering holistic cancer treatment doctor who helped many thousands of people overcome cancer through the use of complementary and holistic treatment protocols.
.
I always wondered the Science behind his treatment. However, Dr. Gonzalez theory surmises that you can’t have proper digestion without proteolytic & PANCREATIC enzymes. The importance of this …is that adequate nutrition creates a desired balanced with in the human frame work that promotes healing and within this blog I will showcase my research why?
When I read Nutritionally Controlling the Autonomic Nervous System by Pat Davidson.

How Do YOU Think About Food!!!!

The main thing that I think about with food is the way it effects my autonomic nervous system.

The nervous system is the controller of the other organ systems. Electrical messages are sent along axons, which reach the terminal end of the wire, and then a chemical message is sent to a receiving structure. The chemical message, when sufficient to cause a voltage change inside the receiving cell causes the cell to open gates and to activate G protein second messaging cascades. When gates open or second messaging systems are put into action, cellular behavior changes in rate.

Cells typically alternate between exergonic and endergonic chemical reactions. If the cell is behaving in an exergonic manner it is giving energy off, and endergonic behavior involves the cell taking energy in. The electrical/chemical messages coming from nerves are a major player in determining whether cells are trending towards exergonic or endergonic function.

The nervous system can be divided into the somatic and autonomic divisions.

The somatic nervous system controls the excitation of skeletal muscle. Every other organ system function in your body is under autonomic control. This means that digestion and absorption at the gut/endothelial lining, as well as the circulation of foodstuff, and the movement of substrate across the cellular lining are all phenomena that fall under the domain of autonomic control.

This article, will explain two ways where we can respect the autonomic nervous system and honor the authentic functionality of each branch via proper nutrient timing and eating foods that do not promote an inflammatory/immune system activating state.

The autonomic nervous system is housed within the medulla in the brainstem. The brainstem is in the hindbrain, which is a primitive brain location from an evolutionary perspective. The forebrain is where conscious thought resides, and the hindbrain is where subconscious brain matters are located.

This is fortuitous because it would be demanding from a conscious thought perspective to have to regulate heart rate, the opening and closing of arterioles, determining the extent of liver action, kidney filtration and reabsorption, and the countless other organ actions that must take place on a constant basis to survive as an organism on this planet.

The autonomic nervous system is divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic centers. Each branch effects the organs of our body in different ways, often times in a way where the two branches mirror one another. Finding balance between the two branches of the autonomic nervous system and being able to alternate from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance is critical to the overall health and performance of the human organism.

Generally speaking, activation of the parasympathetic nervous system is essential to be able to digest food. The parasympathetic nervous system is also associated with the secretion of broken down food products into the blood stream, and it tends to promote the secretion of many of the anabolic hormones within the body. So to maximize the ability to absorb nutrients from food that you eat and to get those nutrients into cells where you can promote anabolic (endergonic) cellular reactions, shifting the body into a parasympathetic state is extremely desirable.

If we cannot escape from a sympathetic state, we cannot maximize digestion, absorption, and cellular uptake of nutrients. Furthermore, the sympathetic nervous system is also associated with activation of the immune system. When the immune system is activated, this tends to promote an inflammatory state within the body. Inflammation is associated with closure of blood vessels, which prevents nutrient rich blood flow from being able to reach tissues of the body.

Foods that promote an inflammatory state and an immune response prevent us from being able to shift solidly into parasympathetic dominance and being able to digest, absorb, and deliver nutrients to cells. This is a relationship between food choices and autonomics. Since autonomics is the controller of every organ system of your body this means that to some degree the food choices you make determine everything about the function of your body and your overall health and wellness. In essence, you are what you eat.

My main focus from a dietary perspective is to respect my autonomic nervous system and to not insult the balance between the two divisions.

My sympathetic nervous system is my driver during waking hours. It excites me, fosters an exergonic state, helps promote my ability to perform mechanical work, and keeps me focused. My sympathetic nervous system is not my primary digestion, absorption, and cellular uptake driver. Based on this, I do not eat much food for breakfast and lunch on most days.

My parasympathetic nervous system is most dominant at night while I am asleep. Sleep is the greatest regeneration period for the human organism, and it is the time where we can really accomplish some good high quality digestion, absorption, and cellular uptake of nutrients. Based on this, I eat the majority of my calories at night before I go to bed.

This is of course the opposite of what most nutritional recommendations from government sources and registered dieticians say to do, but as a country we’ve been consistently getting fatter and fatter since we started following what those governing bodies had to say, so I naturally do exactly the opposite on principal alone. It’s nice that there is a very logical explanation that supports my nutrient timing beliefs that stems from authentic knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well.

The immune system responds to tissue trauma and to foreign invaders that can be found in the blood stream. When trauma or a foreign invader is detected, the immune system sets off a cascade of events that results in white blood cell proliferation, inflammation, vasoconstriction, and a host of other chemical responses. This chemical cascade is fairly stereotypical and reproducible. The immune system response is one that is initiated because a threat has been presented to the body.

From an autonomics standpoint, the sympathetic nervous system is the division that is activated in response to threat. We must therefore ask the question, are there foods that create a threat to the body? The answer from an autonomics and immune system perspective is yes.

Gluten and Inflammation

The gluten protein is a casing that surrounds the sex organs of wheat based plants.

Plants do not have any desire to provide other animals with nutrition. Plants are trying to survive and pass their genes off to the next generation to keep their species alive on this planet. Plants have developed defensive strategies to be able to prevent their sex organs from being destroyed when an animal eats them. The gluten protein is one such evolutionary plant based defense strategy.

The human digestive processes are not capable of breaking down the gluten protein during digestion in the gut. This means that when we absorb foods with the gluten protein, the gluten casing is still intact when it enters the blood stream. Gluten is something that the human body perceives as being a foreign invader, and as a result, the immune system is activated, and a sympathetic state ensues.

Some of the signs and symptoms of an activated immune system include leaky gut syndrome, an increased prevalence of auto-immune conditions, inflammation, swelling, gas, and bloating.

The medical community as well as many nutritionists seem to only focus on Celiac disease when it comes to gluten. This is a mistake because anything that is activating the sympathetic nervous system and the immune system can exert effects on any organ system in the body, and which organ system is most effected will be a highly individualistic experience. Gluten is probably the most insulting inflammatory and immune system activating food choice for most humans; however, it is certainly not the only food choice that can set off this cascade. Dairy, legumes, and nightshades are also high up on the list of offending agents.

What I Do

So what do I do from a food choice perspective and a nutrient timing perspective to maximize my autonomic responses on a daily basis?

First, I go with the bulletproof coffee (BPC) in the morning. Caffeine stimulates the sympathetic nervous system which gets me going. The sympathetic nervous system, with its release of epinephrine and norepinephrine is a powerful agent for causing fat burning because these adrenaline based hormones activate hormone sensitive lipase which liberates fat from fat cells.

In addition to the fat mobilization properties coming from caffeine ingestion, the medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) that go into the BPC are optimal for cellular uptake at working cells that can burn fats. MCTs do not oxidize within the blood vessel (and therefore do not promote endothelial lining inflammation), and they readily cross the plasma membrane and can be quickly broken down to Acetyl CoA to enter the Krebs Cycle via Beta Oxidation inside the cell. The protein that is added to the BPC provides an amino acid influx into cells for protein synthesis, which is nice for a strength athlete, and the ingestion of protein has a powerful satiety effect for preventing extreme food cravings during the course of the day. I also add cinnamon to my BPC due to the fact that this substance has been shown to have outstanding effects on sustaining appropriate blood glucose levels.

The second thing I do is I wait until late in the day to have a big meal, and this is the time when I deliver carbohydrates to my body.

Typically I train during the middle of the day. I don’t worry about post workout supplementation or anything like that. Yes, the research shows that there is a tremendous uptake of amino acids post workout within the anabolic window, but it also shows that there is a big drop off in amino acid uptake and protein synthesis later on.

So, in my mind it all evens out, and worrying about getting food in during the mysterious and elusive anabolic window is something that could be stressful for people to have to worry about, which could ultimately do more harm than good for some people from an autonomics perspective.

The exercise bout during the day does something really fantastic for me though, it dramatically increases my insulin sensitivity. The primary function of insulin is to promote the cellular uptake of blood glucose. Delivering glucose into cells is a very valuable action because it can promote increasing stores of glycogen, which is a powerful energy substrate for high intensity exercise bouts, and glycogen stores must remain high to prevent the release of high levels of cortisol.

If I wait until later in the day to eat my carbohydrates, particularly if I perform exercise prior to carbohydrate ingestion, I will maximize the binding of insulin to its receptor on the plasma membrane, and this will drive a powerful response of cellular uptake of sugar and protein…the two primary ingredients for promoting muscle growth, and muscular performance. In addition to these responses, it seems that glucose and insulin also promote a parasympathetic shift in the autonomic nervous system as well. If I can drive this shift later on in the day, this will be a nice way to prepare my body for sleep, which is the most important regenerative activity for the human body.

Experts?

It seems that we are inundated with dietary recommendations on a daily basis in the United States. Every expert seems to have some kind of plan for you.

How many of these people ever really trace their recommendations all the way down to the most fundamental levels of anatomy and physiology though? Very few from what I’ve seen. Most so called experts regarding food still focus on calories in vs. calories out, which is a nice concept from a superficial perspective, but ever since our country really bought in on that concept we’ve done nothing but get fatter and more diseased.

In truth, the laws of thermodynamics are unavoidable, and calories in/calories out still is king; however, if you’re counting the calories going into your mouth as the critical ones, your perspective is all wrong. The only calories in/calories out counting that matters are the ones entering and exiting your cells. This calories in/calories out concept is an endergonic/exergonic matter, which is an electrical/chemical matter, which is a sympathetic/parasympathetic manner. Food equals autonomics and autonomics equals organ regulation. Organ regulation equals health. Health equals feeling great, looking your best, and performing at a high level. Respect the hindbrain.

The Three Minerals You Need to Balance Your Nervous System – The Importance of Phosphorus, Potassium, and Calcium

Published by Bernie Rosen Oct 27, 2014

The nervous system has two main components: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system is what connects the rest of the body to the central nervous system. There are three types of peripheral nerves: autonomic (involuntary nerves), somatic (voluntary nerves), and sensory nerves.

For our purposes here we will focus on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) – sometimes thought of as the “automatic nervous system.” That is because what it controls are for the most part involuntary activities. It will conduct nerve impulses from the central nervous system to cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and glandular epithelial muscle. To put in plain English – it tells our heart to beat, our digestive system to move food along, the endocrine glands to produce hormones, and for us to breathe.

The autonomic nervous system has two components: the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS). During our normal daily affairs we will switch back and forth between the two of them, but it is impossible for them both to be going at the same time.

The sympathetic nervous system serves as the emergency or stress system. Think of the “fight or flight” response. See a tiger, need to run. The parasympathetic nervous system controls our normal, everyday conditions. In an analogy to a car, the sympathetic nervous system is often described as the accelerator, while the parasympathetic system is the brakes. Sometimes after long periods of stress the autonomic nervous system is not performing correctly and we will accelerate when we should brake and brake when we should accelerate.

While our body was designed to handle stress, it was not designed to handle the constant stress that many people experience. Often people do not recognize their own stress level as they erroneously believe they are handling the stress, or it is how they always feel and do not notice a difference. Yet, their body is under constant stress from both conscious and unintended lifestyle and diet choices.

Both our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems require specific nutrients. The accelerator function of the sympathetic nervous system is controlled by Phosphorus. Phosphorus is energizing – like fire. In fact, it burns immediately when exposed to air! Fortunately our Phosphorus is inside our body!

We are bombarded with messages about the importance of calcium for our bones. Well, without phosphorus all the calcium in the world will not do you much good. In fact, it may cause harm if there is too much calcium and not sufficient phosphorus.

Phosphorus is the second key mineral by content in our bones. It supports healthy bone formation, energy production, cell growth and repair (remember blood cells are made in our bones), collagen synthesis (that’s what helps make the bone), cardiovascular function, and nerve and muscle activity. It is a key part of calcium and sugar metabolism.

Food sources of phosphorus include almonds, brewer’s yeast, eggs, fish (halibut, salmon), glandular meats, lean beef, lentils, liver, milk, peanuts, poultry, pumpkin seeds, wheat bran, and yogurt.

What about potassium? Potassium strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system. It acts like a governor and helps calm the nervous system. It is critical for the ongoing health of every cell in our body. That’s a pretty important job! Along with its partner sodium, the two minerals balance the nutrient and waste exchange of each cell. Potassium is involved in nerve and muscle functioning where it again teams with sodium. It also maintains our body’s fluid balance, electrolyte balance, and pH balance.

Foods containing potassium include: almonds, artichokes, avocado, bananas, beet greens, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, kale, lentils, lima beans, oranges, papaya, pinto beans, prunes, raisins, spinach, sunflower seeds, Swiss chard, tomatoes, wheat germ, winter squash, and yams.

Calcium is one of the most talked about minerals and for good reason. It supports strong bone structure, teeth, and muscle tissue, aids in blood clotting function, supports cardiovascular and nerve functions, and helps in normal functioning of many enzymes. Calcium works in conjunction with Phosphorus and Potassium to balance these important systems.

The best sources of calcium are of course from food. It is also a misconception that this has to come from milk. Leafy green vegetables are a great source of calcium. For calcium choose: bone meal, cheese (best are Cheddar, mozzarella, and Swiss), collard greens, flaxseed, liver, milk, molasses, mustard greens, sesame seeds, spinach, turnip greens, wheat germ and yogurt.

The Wellness Paradigm

Image result for The wellness paradigm

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. ~Krishnamurti!!!

The wellness paradigm holds that there is no separation between mind, body, spirit, and emotions. All aspects of the human condition are so tightly connected that it is impossible to distinguish one from the other. An ancient theory that is supported by many experts in several disciplines suggests each aspect of the human condition is comprised of energy, with the most dense energy being the most obvious and tangible: the physical body. Here are definitions for each aspect of the wellness paradigm:

* Emotional well-being is best defined as the ability to feel and express the entire range of human emotions from anger to love, and to control them, not be controlled by them.

* Physical well-being is defined as the optimal condition of each of the body’s physiological systems. These include pulmonary, cardiovascular, nervous, immune, reproductive, urinary, endocrine, musculoskeletal, and digestive.

* Mental well-being is understood as the ability to gather, process, recall and communicate information. Like a computer, the mind can gather and store mass quantities of information.

* Spiritual well-being is defined as the maturation of higher consciousness as developed through the dynamic integration of three facets: relationships (internal, how you relate to yourself and a higher power, however you conceive this to be; and external, how you relate and interact with all people in your life), a personal value system, and a meaningful purpose in life.

* * *

Calmed in body, calmed in speech, well-centered & calm, having disgorged the baits of the world, a monk is called thoroughly calmed.

– Dhammapada, 25, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
2-Thess. 2: 9,10.
The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how satan works. he will use all sorts of displays of power through signs & wonders that serve the LIE.
and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the Truth and so be saved!

The Wellness Paradigm addresses the body as an innately intelligent, self-governing and self-regulating being. When that being is exposed to the appropriate environment it will express optimal health. The Wellness Model endorses a pro-active, deliberate approach to living that encourages lifestyle behavioral patterns that ensure the provision of all elements considered essential for optimal cell function, while simultaneously avoiding those elements known to be inherently toxic to cell function. The objective is to observe, support and encourage nature – not suppress, manipulate or interfere with it.

The Wellness Paradigm recognizes that sickness is not the opposite of health – but rather the absence of health. Just as darkness is the absence of light – not its opposite. The only way to brighten a room is to add light, not reduce darkness. Likewise, the only way to get well is to increase health, not fixate on reducing sickness.

The objective of the Bonfire Health Program is to empower individuals with the knowledge of a genetically congruent lifestyle (“what to do”) and equip them with the lifestyle strategies proven to get the best results (the “how to do”).

Our purpose is to create Well People.

The Cause of all Disease: Toxemia Explained

by Chris Wark 🙂

As some of you know, last summer I had the opportunity to speak at a health conference in New York called Staying Alive.

It was at this conference that I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Thomas Lodi speak for the first time. He gave an incredibly insightful talk about healing cancer and made a very compelling case that all disease was caused by toxemia and he recommended that everyone read a book written in…

1926.

So I did.

And it was one of the most brilliant books I’ve ever read.

The principles in this book that defy conventional medical wisdom still hold true today,
87 years later.

As I was reading it I started highlighting sections I liked and quickly realized that I was highlighting the whole friggin book!

And after much consternation I was able to narrow down some powerful excerpts to share with you in this post.

Before we dig in, here’s a quick vocabulary lesson:

Enervation is essentially overstimulation and stress.
A catarrh is any condition in the body with inflammation and mucous. (Ew.)

dr_john_tilden_pic

Enter Dr. John Tilden M.D. the wisdom of J H Tilden is exquisite…

Image result for Toxemia the book is readily available as a pdf… http://www.4livefoodfactorfriends.com/no55TZ6/DOC8-4.pdf

Cures are what the people want, and cures are what doctors and cultists affect to make;
but at most, only relief is given.

The periodicity which characterizes all functional derangements of the body lends color to the claims of cure-mongers that their remedy has cured their patients, when the truth is that the so-called disease “ran its course.”

The so-called disease was a toxemic crisis, and when the toxins were eliminated below the toleration point, the sickness passed—automatically health returned. But the disease was not cured; for if the cause is continued, toxins still accumulate, and in due course of time another crisis appears. Unless the cause is discovered and removed, crises will recur until functional derangements will give way to organic disease.

The end is degeneration from a lack of oxygen and nutrients, and, in degenerating, the septic material enters the circulation, setting up chronic septic poisoning called cancer cachexia.

The study of pathology—the study of disease—has engaged the best minds in the profession always, and it surely appears that the last word must have been spoken on the subject; but all researchers believe that a more intense and minute study of the early symptoms of disease will reveal the cause. There is, however, one great reason why it cannot, and that is that all diseases, from their initiation to their ending, are effects, and the most intense study of any phase or stage of their progress will not throw any light on the cause.

Cause is constant, ever present, and always the same. Only effects, and the object on which cause acts, change, and the change is most inconstant. To illustrate: A catarrh of the stomach presents first irritation, then inflammation, then ulceration, and finally induration and cancer.

The medical world is struggling to find the cause of cancer. It is the distal end of an inflammatory process whose beginning may be any irritation.

In other words, cancer is the end stage of all disease.

Without Toxemia there can be no disease. The waste-products of metabolism are toxic, and the only reason why we are not poisoned by them is because they are removed from our body as fast as they are produced. Toxins are only retained in the blood when there is a checking of elimination. So the cause of the checking has to be determined.

When we have normal nerve-energy, organic functioning is normal. Enervation (stress) checks elimination of the waste-products of metabolism. Retention of metabolic toxins is the first and only cause of disease.

Every so-called disease is a crisis of Toxemia; which means that toxin has accumulated in the blood above the toleration-point, and the crisis, the so-called disease—is a vicarious elimination. Nature is endeavoring to rid the body of toxin. Any treatment that obstructs this effort at elimination baffles nature in her effort at self-curing.

Drugs, feeding, fear, and keeping at work (when you should be resting) prevent elimination of toxins from the body and interfere with healing.

Cancer is the culmination of years of abuse of nutrition, and years of toxemia from faulty elimination.

One of the first things to do to get rid of any so-called disease is to get rid of Toxemia; for it is this state that makes disease possible.

Toxemia is the cause of all diseases, and as enervation—a stressed body and mind—is the cause of Toxemia, it behooves those who are sick and want to get well, and who want to know how to stay well, to know what causes enervation.

A normal, healthy person is one who is poised (self- controlled), and who has no nerve-destroying habits. A self-controlled man is a man who is not controlled, kicked, cuffed, or driven by habits.

Man is either the master of himself, or his appetite and sensual pleasures master him.

Fear is the greatest of all causes of enervation.

Worry, lack of control over the emotions, improper eating, stimulants, all build disease.

Envy and jealousy are cancers that eat the soul out of those who indulge them.

Work without pleasure in the work is enervating and disease-building.

Dissatisfaction and overworked emotions are enervating. Worry, fear, grief, anger, passion, temper, overjoy, depression, dissatisfaction, self-pity, pride, egotism, envy, jealousy, gossip, lying, dishonesty, failing to meet obligations and appointments, taking advantage of misunderstandings, abusing the credulity of friends, abusing the confidence of those who confide in us—all enervate and in time build incurable disease.

Anger is very enervating. A daily shock of anger will build profound enervation. A temper that flies at the slightest provocation ruins digestion and builds nervousness.

Egotism.—Because of self-love, selfishness, misanthropy, and distrust, the egotist sees unfriendliness in all the acts of others—every hand is against him. This causes enervation and Toxemia.

Selfish Ambition brings on ill-health; for it meets with so many disappointments. Where successful, it enables the one who succeeds to gratify his sensual nature, resulting in all the so-called diseases following in the wake of selfish gratification. A noble ambition goes with self-control and service to mankind, and health and long life are two of the rewards.

Overeating is a common and universal enervating habit; eating too much and eating too often.

Insatiable desire for food and stimulants creates an enervated state of the body brought on from overindulgence and overstimulation.

Perverted appetites are built by overeating; eating rich food until enjoyment is lost for staple or plain foods; excessive use of stimulants—alcohol, tobacco, coffee… eating without a real hunger (real hunger will take the plainest foods with a relish); eating when sick or uncomfortable; eating at all hours, between meals; eating until uncomfortable.

Gossips are always enervated, for they live in fear of being discovered. Their secretions are always acid. They are inclined to develop pyorrhea and mucous-membrane infections.
They are slow to recover from a crises of Toxemia.

It is a real pleasure for the doctor who knows that he cannot cure anything, to watch nature throw off all these symptoms by elimination, if he is willing to do a little “watchful waiting” and “keep hands off.”

Great suffering, chronic and fatal maladies, are all built by the incorrigibleness of patients, and the well-meaning but belligerent efforts of the doctors who fight the imaginary foe without ceasing. (Cue the photo I took last year)

Battling Cancer Billboard

The people are so saturated with the idea that disease must be fought to a finish that they are not satisfied with conservative treatment. Something must be done, even if they pay for it with their lives, as tens of thousands do every year. This willingness to die on the altar of medical superstition is one very great reason why no real improvement is made in fundamental medical science.

When the people demand education—not medication, vaccination, and immunization—they will get it.

The Seven Stages of Disease

by John Tilden, Juice Feasting.com

  1. ENERVATION
    seven stages of disease
Enervation is simply insufficient nerve energy, or vital energy, to carry out the needed and necessary daily functions of the living organism. An insufficiency of energy coming in contributes to enervation. So does excessive energy expenditure. Burning the candle at both ends leads to enervation. Excesses of all types can enervate a person. So does stress. Enervation is then a double-edged sword. Not enough energy coming in, or too much energy going out.
  2. TOXEMIA
Toxemia to the Orthopaths meant a foul or morbid state of the blood and tissues resulting from the accumulation of un-eliminated toxic matter. As a consequence of the rising toxemia, the vitality of the body drops as energy is drained to combat the inflow. All this sets the stage for disease. John Tilden in his book Toxemia Explained said he was convinced that toxemia is the universal cause of all disease, either from within or without (endogenous or exogenous toxins).
  3. IRRITATION
As the enervated body becomes more and more polluted with the accumulating un-eliminated wastes, the interstitial space between the cells begins to resemble a toxic waste dump. In addition, water is used to dilute the effects of these wastes, causing the tissues to become water laden. Guyton ( Textbook of medical physiology) explains that the “dry cell” state is the state of healthy tissues. The “wet cell” state, or the “hydrated cell” state is the state of the tissues in disease. The body tissues are then very much like a sponge. While the dry cell state is the state of health, the tissues can absorb a great deal of water and toxins, just like a sponge, if it is forced to in order to extend life. These waste products interfere with the proper oxygenation and feeding of the cells as well as causing the accumulation of excess water in the tissues.Pain signals coming from the tissues have at least three causes: Lack of oxygen, lack of nutrition (cellular food), and pressure. The cells, subjected to the lack of oxygen, the lack of food, and the increased pressure from the retained water, begin to send out pain signals. The cells are hence “irritated.” Modern man’s answer is either to ignore the pain and discomfort, or to take a “pain” pill, which just adds more toxic stuff to the load, and keep on going on. This leads to the next stage of disease and body degeneration, Inflammation.
  4. INFLAMMATION
The enervated body is now suffering the results of toxemia. The cells have initially become irritated. The next step of cellular changes and body degeneration is inflammation. The inflammation process produces the common “-itis.” With the skin it is dermatitis. In the throat it may be tonsillitis and further on esophagitis. In the stomach we find gastritis. In the small intestine ileitis. In the colon colitis. The heart may have carditis. With the liver it is hepatitis. (We how have types a, b, and c. Given enough time we will no doubt have a through z.) You can have an inflammation (an -itis ) anywhere within the body.It is not uncommon to have bacteria involved in the inflammation process. The bacteria have not caused the inflammation and the “-itis” any more than flies cause garbage. By allowing the accumulation of toxemia to continue, the body will continue to decline in energy and vitality. Further cellular changes will be found (pathology proves this). Left unchecked and unheeded, the next stage of disease is ULCERATION.
  5. ULCERATION
The body has undergone the successive effects of enervation, rising toxemia, irritation, and inflammation. The next step in body degeneration is ulceration of the tissues.Ulceration can occur with any body tissue, but the usual connotation of ulcers has to do with the skin or the digestive tract. One can develop ulcers on the skin, in the nose, in the mouth, in the throat, in the stomach, in the small intestine, and in the colon. These conditions are painful and serious. The sufferer usually seeks medical assistance at this point. The allopaths of today will offer lotions, potions, and medicinals to alleviate the pain and swelling but offer little else other than anti-biotics.An ulcer can then be viewed as a consequence of body degeneration, or the action of the vital organism to prolong life and maintain its remaining health
  6. INDURATION
The enervated body is now carrying an un-eliminated toxic load creating toxemia. The cells of the tissues are experiencing irritation, inflammation and ulceration. The next step is for the cells to indurate. Induration is a thickening and hardening of the tissues in an effort to protect themselves. The continuing accumulation of un-eliminated toxic waste causing toxemia leads to the final stage of cellular degeneration… FUNGATION.
  7. FUNGATION (Cancer)
The living organism, living with an ever increasing amount of toxemia, has expressed its internal discomfort with irritation, inflammation, ulceration and induration. The final stage of the expression of its discomfort is FUNGATION, more commonly known as CANCER.When the internal conditions have deteriorated to the extent that normal aerobic, oxidative processes are no longer possible, the cells can revert to a more primordial means of surviving. The cells can carry on their life processes by anaerobic processes, the same processes that many bacteria use. When the cells have changed in form and function to this extent, this is when your oncologist will tell you that you have the big C…Cancer !!!!

‘RAW Courage’
A Journey to Optimum Health

In 2001, Janette Murray-Wakelin was diagnosed with a highly aggressive carcinoma breast cancer and given six months to get her affairs in order. The tumour was 3cm and the cancer had spread into the chest wall and the lymph nodes. It was recommended that she undergo conventional chemotherapy and radiation treatment, which may possibly extend her life a further 6 months. Unwilling to accept this sentence, Janette made changes to her lifestyle. Within six months she was given a clean bill of health …

At 52 years, a mother of two and grandmother of one, she was not willing to accept this prognosis.

“I had lived a very healthy lifestyle, being vegetarian for 25 years and vegan for the previous 15 years,” Janette explains. “I have also been extremely physically active all my life, so I was quite shocked with the diagnosis.”

"Family is foremost in my life, food and fitness feature prominently, fun and happiness provide fulfillment, ...there is no room for fear." -Janette

“Family is foremost in my life, food and fitness feature prominently, fun and happiness provide fulfillment, …there is no room for fear.” -Janette

“However, the power of intention is far greater than that of fear,” Janette continues, “and I had every intention of staying around for a long time!”

Janette was alerted to the possibility of cancer being present when her little grandson inadvertently found the tumour. “I had been carrying him all day as we walked around a local festival and he had fallen asleep in my arms,” she remembers. “When we finally got home and I put him down, I noticed some pain in the breast area where he had been holding on to me. It was then that I discovered the lump.”

“I was not overly perturbed, ” Janette said. “I had always done regular self breast examinations and had never had any sign of a problem. In fact,” she notes, “apart from a bout of scarlet fever and measles as a tiny child, I have never been sick in my life. I have never had so much as a cold and I’ve never taken any drugs, not even an aspirin! I thought it was just bruising to the tissue from being held onto for hours by my grandson.”

It was Janette’s daughter who suggested she should have it looked at and the following day she had an ultrasound and biopsy, which proved the diagnosis.

“My intuitive response to the recommended treatment was that it did not make sense to compromise the body’s system further,” Janette explains. “ It seemed obvious to me that I should be helping the body to rejuvenate and rebuild, thereby reversing the problem.”

“My instinct told me that treating the symptoms would not address the cause. I was also convinced that I was not meant to die of cancer, so I treated the diagnosis as a challenge,” she said. “It seemed to me that this was just a message from my body that there was a problem I needed to deal with.”

A year earlier, Janette had been present at her grandson’s birth and had held his little hand for his first 24 hours of life. “I promised him that we would have many wonderful times together over the years and that I would always be there for him,” she recalls. “Now he had brought this to my attention so that I could take care of the problem and be able to keep my promise!”

Janette and her husband Alan have spent most of their lives traveling together worldwide. They married and their two children were born while still in their early twenties. In search of a healthy lifestyle for their little family, this adventurous couple sailed from their home country of New Zealand when their children were very small. Their sailboat was completely self-sufficient, relying on the four winds to take them throughout the South Pacific; visiting, living and working in places like the Tongan Islands, Micronesia and Papua New Guinea.

“Our time on the ocean was incredible,” Janette recalls. “We learned a lot about ourselves from living on the sea. Most of the time it was so serene, but there were moments of awe when the storms raged around us! It was fun home-schooling our children and as a family, we grew very close,” she mused. “It was a carefree life with very little stress, our food was mostly fresh fruit and vegetables and our environment was pretty clean and green.”

It was hard for Janette to think of what the cause may have been given the healthy lifestyle she had been living. However, during a maintenance refit for the sailboat, she did suffer an accident, which exposed her to a high dose of toxins.

“I was painting the boat when the scaffolding collapsed under me,” she recalls. “It happened so fast that I was still holding the can of paint when I hit the ground! I was completely covered in marine paint that has toxic antifouling properties, it was in my hair, my eyes, nose, ears and mouth. I ingested quite a bit, but most of my skin was covered in paint. It took 3 months before my normal skin colour came back and since the skin is the largest organ of the body, over-exposure for me was inevitable!”

After four years sailing in the South Pacific, the family embarked on a new adventure for a further four years; living and working on a cargo ship on the inland waterways throughout Europe.

“This adventure is another story in itself,” Janette says, “but during that time I was also exposed to toxic fall-out from the Chernoble disaster. Looking back over my life and remembering those two times when I was over-exposed to toxins, I realized that my body must have been highly compromised.”

Whether it was one incident or the other, or perhaps the combination of both, Janette was sure that the toxic load in her body predisposed her to the onset of cancer.

“I could think of no other explanation, but once I had established the cause,” she said, “I felt more empowered to do something about it. I was no longer guessing, taking a gamble on treatment, nor in fear of the outcome. I knew that I could take control of the situation myself, doing 100% the best I could for my body.”

The family’s initial reaction to the diagnosis was to research all they could about breast cancer, the possible causes and the treatments that were recommended, as well as looking into natural holistic therapies and making lifestyle changes that would be most likely to result in a positive outcome.

“We needed to know all the possibilities so that I could make an informed choice as to the best course of action to take,” Janette said. “I knew that it made sense to do everything I could to give the body the tools it needed to take me on my journey to optimum health. Our extensive research not only gave us the knowledge to do just that, but also the confidence to know that I had made the right choice.”

With the help of Janette’s naturopathic physician, she established a regime that focused on the holistic approach of mind, body and spirit. This intensive regime included intravenous immune therapy; Infrared detoxification therapy; increasing the amount of oxygen to the body through ozone treatment, conscious breathing and aerobic exercise; visualization, meditation, positive thinking and spiritual awareness; and maximizing the amount of nutrients taken into the body through juicing, wheatgrass and living food nutrition.

For the following six months after receiving the diagnosis, Janette spent 3 hours a day, 5 days a week at the naturopathic clinic having therapy to help boost the immune system. “I used the time sitting hooked up to the intravenous drip to relax. It also gave me time to do more research,” she said.

She increased the amount of exercise that she was already doing on a daily basis, incorporating yoga and long distance running. “With yoga I was able to reunite with myself. I came to know my inner self and to love myself unconditionally. My running became more meditative. I chose to run on trails in the mountains or barefoot in the sand along the beach. I could feel again the sense of freedom that I remembered when I ran as a child.”

“I visualized achieving personal goals that I had long since put aside – perhaps I would write, perhaps I would paint. I visualized myself proudly looking on at my grandson’s wedding; going full circle and being present at his child’s birth,” Janette smiles.

Daily sessions in the infrared sauna maximized the detoxification process. “I could feel the body ridding itself of toxins while enjoying the feeling of complete relaxation during the sessions,” she said.

“My nutritional intake took a huge leap. I started juicing in earnest. It made sense that I could consume more nutrients by juicing because I just wouldn’t be able to eat that amount of food. If it takes 4 cups of carrots to produce 1 cup of juice, and I could drink 4 cups of juice per day, I knew I was way ahead of the game,” she said. “I think I was close to consuming a truckload of carrots every week during those 6 months! My hands turned carrot-coloured, but I didn’t care! I was alive and running!”

“I also started taking wheatgrass,” Janette adds. “When I learned that one ounce of wheatgrass juice has the equivalent nutritional value of 2lbs of green leafy vegetables, (that’s more than most people eat in a week!), I never hesitated.”

Apart from having all the vitamins and most of the minerals the body needs to be healthy, wheatgrass juice also has all the amino acids making it a complete protein. Like all greens, wheatgrass is also very high in chlorophyll, which is pure oxygen to the body. When taken, the juice goes directly to the bloodstream, oxygenating the blood and the whole body.

“I knew from the research that we had done, that this was a crucial factor in stopping the mutation of cancer cells,” Janette explains. “Cancer cannot survive in an oxygenated environment, therefore the more oxygen I could pump into the body through exercise, conscious breathing and drinking wheatgrass, the better!”

Although Janette had been vegetarian and vegan for most of her life, she decided that if she was going to “give it 100%”, she would also eliminate all cooked food, thereby getting the maximum amount of nutrients from all foods she consumed.

“I couldn’t believe the difference in the way I felt within only one week of changing to 100% RAW food,” she exclaims. “The first thing I noticed was my clarity of mind was intensely heightened. I no longer had to think about decision making. Everything became very clear, there was no hesitation.”

“I lost 15lb within the first month of eating 100% RAW food, which took me just below my recommended weight per height ratio. The following month my weight came back up a few lbs and has not changed since,” she says.

During the first 6 months, Janette’s body revisited old injuries that had obviously not completely healed. For example, during her accident with the paint, she sustained an injury to her elbow that had left her unable to straighten her arm. She experienced ten days of pain in the elbow, similar to that which she had endured at the time of the accident, but when the pain stopped she could straighten her arm again!

“I also found I had much more energy than before and that it lasted longer. It was especially evident during my long training runs and my physical performance level increased,” she said. “There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that consuming 100% RAW food made a huge difference to my recovery time and to my overall healing.”

It is interesting that although the lifestyle changes Janette made were minimal, the positive results were profound.

“I really only had to stop eating the odd muffin, a sandwich now and then, eliminate the pasta and stop wokking my vegetables!” she laughs. “I had already eliminated meats as a child, dairy in my teens and I had never eaten processed or junk food. So the change to 100% RAW food for me was not that big, but the change to my overall health was huge. Not only did I immediately experience clarity of mind, increased energy, specific injury healing and a feeling of well-being, but I actually cured myself of cancer!”

Within the six months that Janette was ‘given’ after her diagnosis, she received a clean bill of health. There was no longer any sign of cancer cells in her body. She finished the immune therapy regime, but has continued with all other aspects of her RAW lifestyle.

Janette is quick to mention that those crucial six months were also filled with love, laughter and lots of support from her family and friends.

Janette has a life partner, two adult children (and their partners), and five grandchildren!

“I am blessed with a loving family who rallied for me with the research, with physical and mental support, and most of all,” she emphasizes, “with their unwavering conviction that the path I had chosen was mine to choose. I believe having unconditional support is also paramount in healing the body.”

“I now have two more grandchildren whom I believe I would never have known had I not made these informed choices to follow a RAW lifestyle,” she says with passion and conviction. “My diagnosis of cancer and resulting journey to optimum health has been an experience I am truly grateful for. I know for certain that I will continue on the RAW path, as I continue to experience more health benefits and an ever-increasing enlightened consciousness. Every day is exciting when you are RAW!”

As a result of her life changing experience, Janette and Alan established a Centre for Optimum Health on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, where they offered RAW Lifestyle Programs based on the holistic approach of mind, body and spirit. Health presentations, seminars and workshops were offered by over 40 holistic practitioners affiliated with the Centre on a weekly basis and international health educators spoke monthly. The Centre had a RAW Lifestyle Store, a Conscious Book, Film & Internet Library, a Fitness Studio, and an Infrared Sauna Spa. They also sponsored weekly and monthly RAW Food Potlucks and offered RAW Food Preparation Classes in the RAW Vegan Restaurant within the Centre. Both she and Alan are 100% RAW and their staff of 20 also followed the RAW Lifestyle.

Running Raw Around Australia

To inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future, veteran raw vegan runners Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray ran together around Australia, 15,782 km, 366 marathons each in 366 consecutive days throughout the year 2013. Janette and Alan finished running 365 marathons in 365 days in Melbourne December 31, 2013.
On January 1, 2014 they ran one more marathon #366 to set a new World Record for the most consecutive marathons, the only couple to Run Around Australia, both 60+ years young, fueled entirely on a raw vegan plant-based diet and wearing barefoot shoes! Together they have proven beyond any doubt, that by living a conscious lifestyle, you are never too old (and never too young) to achieve optimum health and physical fitness.

Throughout the year 2013, to inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future, veteran raw vegan athletes Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray ran together around Australia, 15,782km, 366 marathons each in 366 days.

YOU MIGHT ASK – “WHY RUN AROUND AUSTRALIA?”

WE ASKED OURSELVES – How can we share the information and experiences we have gained through conscious living during the past decade, so that others may make their own informed lifestyle choices that will make a difference to their health, the health of their family and future generations, the health of their community, the health and well being of the animals, and ultimately, the health of our precious Earth where we live? What can we do to inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise awareness for a sustainable future?

THE ANSWER – We can lead by example, walk (or in this case) run the talk. By running a marathon distance together per day , every day for a year around Australia, we hope to inspire others to believe in themselves, to follow their dreams, and to achieve their goals through making more conscious lifestyle choices. We can be living proof of what can be achieved by making conscious life choices.

While we were Running around Australia during the year 2013, we had the opportunity to show that by eating raw living plant-based foods, we are healthier, more physically fit and have unlimited energy at beyond 65 years of age than in our earlier years, including when we ran the length of New Zealand 13 years previously. Inspiration is what motivates people to ‘Never Stop Pushing’ for what they believe in and for what they want to achieve.

We also had the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for selected charitable groups instrumental in making a difference to the health and welfare of the people, animals and environmental sustainability within Australia and worldwide. We believe that the survival of our (humane) species is dependent on our kindness, compassion and caring for all living beings, and that this is achieved by making conscious lifestyle choices.

By doing so, we can make a difference.

National Cancer Institute – Cannabis and Cannabinoids

‘Cannabinoids may cause antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis. Two reviews summarize the molecular mechanisms of action of cannabinoids as antitumor agents. For you and your loved ones going through a cancer battle, we’ve compiled a list of cannabis strain !!!!

Cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells, however, do not affect their nontransformed counterparts and may even protect them from cell death. For example, these compounds have been shown to induce apoptosis in glioma cells in culture and induce regression of glioma tumors in mice and rats, while they protect normal. Full article with references ~ https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/hp/cannabis-pdq#section/all

Although there are many types of breast cancer, they are usually grouped into four categories, depending on how they show up on diagnostic tests:

Estrogen receptor positive (ER+) or progesterone receptor positive (PR+): About two in three cases of breast cancer (more in older women) have receptors for one or both of these hormones.

HER2/neu (a.k.a. HER2 or ErbB2): HER2/neu is a protein that is over-copied by certain types of breast cancer. HER2-positive cancers spreads more rapidly than other types of cancer.

Triple negative: These breast cancers do not have estrogen or progesterone receptors and doesn’t show overproduction of HER2. Triple – negative breast cancers spreads aggressively because they don’t respond to hormones or drugs that target HER2, but chemotherapy is an option.

Triple positive: These types of breast cancer are ER+ and PR+, and they have too much HER2 production. They can be treated with hormones, HER2 drugs, and chemo.

Research has shown that PR+, HER2-positive, and triple-negative breast cancers can be effectively treated with cannabis. The protocols recommended by doctors we work with tend to have high THC-to-CBD ratios, often around 4:1.

Cancers that involve estrogen, however, may actually spread in response to large amounts of THC. Patients with ER+ or triple-positive breast cancer do better with lower ratios of THC to CBD—a ratio 1:1 or 1:3 is preferable, according to doctors and patients we’ve spoken with.

.
First and foremost ~ this website is about alternative cancer treatment options and if you read beyond this blog post you will see a varied blog roll. However, within this blog I posted the research about cannabis that I have acquired over 3 years and know many that have tried cannabis and lost their battle !!! 🙁
.
My answer is and always will be cannabis is expensive and does play mind games on you. Given the cost of the oil: one needs reassurance they are getting constant quality oil each and every time they get a new batch. For my good friend Rosa Parkin it didn’t always work out that way. When she received a quality batch ….she seen results ….when she didn’t …. it always made Rosa wondered “why not they’re taking my money ?”
.
This mindset caused a lot of anguish concern and in the end …. drove her to fly from The United Kingdom to Oregon for the answer to her dilemma which she didn’t find at the time. However, may have if the trip was taken earlier. Rosa live 2 years 5 days from the time her doctor in the United Kingdom gave her 2years. Although when I became acquainted with her she was bedridden with 8 cm tumor embedded in her uterus. 🙁
.
One of the most highly “debated topics” and you can’t get cannabis oilers to come together with the truth is solvents being used. Some oilers will tell you …. you need Simpson’s solvent to gain a good batch of medicinal oil. I believe cannabis oil needs to be standardized so when a cancer patient shells out hard earned money. They know for sure that the batches obtain are constant each time and that they know that the solvent that was used won’t poison them?
.
Some might think that the honor of being the ‘FatherofCannabis might be Rick Simpson, however, the Man Who Discovered Why Weed Makes You High is Raphael Mechoulam who has been deciphering the secrets of marijuana for over 50 years. Although it is RSO that makes Rick Simpson esteemed amongst the cannabis culture.
.
With that said, here is what Rick Simpson has said about his method?

Solvent Residue In The Oil

Over the years I have been contacted by a good number of people who were concerned about the possibility that solvent residue could be left behind in the finished oil. From my experience, I feel there is little danger in consuming such an oil if the instructions we have made available to produce the oil are followed.

I have been ingesting this oil myself for about nine years with no ill effects. Also I have made this oil available to thousands of people and I have received very few complaints.

If someone has problems taking the oil it is usually because they are trying to take pharmaceuticals along with the oil treatment. High-grade hemp oil has the ability to replace the use of most pharmaceuticals. But when a patient tries to take pharmaceuticals along with the oil, sometimes problems can arise. Usually after the patient ceases the use of pharmaceutical drugs, any problems they were experiencing simply disappear.

When the oil is made properly, the finished product is a thick grease. Oils that I have produced have been laboratory tested and I have never received any report of solvent residue being present in the finished product.

It seems absurd to me that anyone would worry about solvent residue in the oil when you consider what the medical system has been feeding the public. Liver toxic chemicals, poisons, chemo, radiation, etc. It seems to me that anyone worried about being poisoned should be much more concerned with what the medical system supplies, rather than residue from a solvent.

There are many scientific ways to extract the oil from the plant material. Also there many solvents that can be safely used to perform this task. Not to mention other processes like nobel gas extractions. The problem with scientific methods is that most people lack the equipment and knowledge to perform such extractions. And that is why we showed the public the simplest possible way to produce this medication themselves.

I freely admit that the method we described to the public would be considered crude at best, but there is no doubt that high grade medication can be produced in this manner. From my point of view, the best way to produce this medication would involve a distilling process. That way the solvents can be reclaimed and there is much less danger of a mishap. But for the most part people do not understand distilling so for most it is best to use the simplest method possible.

I have used different solvents to produce oil but most of the time I use naphtha. Naphtha is usually readily available and very economical to purchase when compared to other solvents. Most paint suppliers sell naphtha as paint thinners, so the average person should have little trouble in locating this solvent.

I have also used alcohol and isopropyl alcohol to produce the oil on quite a few occasions with no difficulties. Usually an oil produced with alcohol will be darker in color than oil produced with naphtha. The reason for this is alcohol is not as selective as naphtha and it will leach out some of the chlorophyll which gives oils produced in this manner a darker color. Just because such an oil is darker in color, do not underestimate its potency, a darker oil can and often is just as potent as oils produced in another manners.

Often people tell me that they would prefer to produce the oil using grain alcohol. For some reason they seem to think that grain alcohol would be safer to use. One of the main problems with grain alcohol is that it is very hard to find alcohol such as this that is 99 or 100% pure.

In most cases it is hard to find alcohol that is over 95 % and usually the other 5 % will be water. Since this water is present, it makes such alcohol less effective as a solvent and at the end of the process there will be quite a bit of water left in the oil that must be evaporated off.

From my experience I do not consider grain alcohol to be any safer than isopropyl alcohol or naphtha to produce the oil. No matter how you look at it, alcohol is poison and when you consume alcohol, it produces a poison high that affects your motor skills and this is known as being drunk.

I am not saying that high grade oil cannot be produced using grain alcohol. Rather I am saying that you should be aware that grain alcohol is no better or safer than most other solvents that are currently available.

Often I am contacted by people who wish to extract the oil using butter or olive oil etc. Often I am asked if I think an extraction done in this manner would produce a medicine with similar potency to the medicine I produce using my method. The answer is no. I consider extractions done in this way to be simply forms of weakened hemp medicine. By volume there is no possible way that a medication produced like this could have the same potency as the medication I produce. If you had a serious cancer, would you want to treat it with some form of watered down hemp medicine or would you sooner use the real think in your treatment? End of story.

Also people quite often inquire if the oil can be used along with chemo. I tell them that yes, the oil could be used along with the chemo and it would give them a better chance of surviving the effects of the poison in the chemo. But why would anyone in their right mind even consider taking poison and radiation? Chemo and radiation do not cure cancer, they cause it and in the past I have refused to provide oil to people who are planning to take such so-called treatments. Why should I run the risk of going to jail to produce the oil for someone who plans to take treatments such as this from the medical system? If a person wants to take poison or radiation, by all means, that is your choice but don’t expect me to supply the oil.

In the past I have provided this medication to people who want a viable treatment that works and gives them a good chance to survive. For the most part, I consider what the medical system is supplying to be more about murder than it is about medicine. That is the reason I tell people with serious medical conditions to take the oil and stay away from the medical system. What the medical system provides in the end usually does much more harm than good. The damage caused and left behind by chemo and radiation will in most cases bring about the death of the patient. The vast majority of people who take chemo and radiation die from the effects of these treatments and not the cancer they are being treated for.

I want the public to know that for the next few weeks I will be very hard to reach. In the coming weeks I hope to put the finishing touches on the book I have written on this subject.

But like Arnold the Terminator, I´ll be back.
Thank You
Rick Simpson 🙂
.
Whereas in other links that I have read…. other people have stated:

The correct naphtha is NOT sold in the U.S.A. Not at Tractor Supply or Home Depot or Lowes or even Sherwin Williams. It’s still sold in Canada though. I have a friend that does distill it to 100°F and saves what solvent does come off, to use for making oil.

If you live in the USA then you won’t be getting the right Naphtha, all naphtha made in the USA can not be trusted because of the loose regulation on ingredients in this type of solvent. You will never get pure naphtha in the USA, even the vm&p can be completely inconsistent from one bottle to the next and isn’t even advertised as pure.

In Canada they make pure naphtha and it is the best solvent to use compared to ISO or Grain alcohol, don’t make a huge mistake and waste meds or even worse make yourself or someone else even more sick by using the wrong solvent. Be warned the naphtha in the USA will even make an oil that looks completely as it should but will make you very sick.” Chase Abanatha

The fact that pure aliphatic naphtha does not seem to be sold in the USA does not mean that pure aliphatic naphtha with CAS number 64742-49-0 and a boiling point around 60-80°C does not exist or that it does not produce a better oil than most other solvents, when used properly. If you cannot get pure light naphtha, 99% or even better 99.9% isopropyl alcohol would be our second choice.

The kleen strip naptha sold on amazon has the correct cas label recommended by rick simpson, so if you can follow his instructions on how to make it you should have no problem getting a clean usable end product with kleen strip naptha – make sure the cas label matches this – 64742-49-0 Hydrotreated light naphtha 95.0 -100.0 % concentration.

But I would still not give up – light naphtha or similar solvents are used to extract oils from plants, so I would check with vegetable oil producers and see what they use. Where I live in Europe, I can buy the solvent in practically every hardware or paint store, it is one of the most common technical liquids I remember from my childhood, we used it to degrease bicycle chains etc., practically everyone had a bottle of it at home. So this whole never ending debate about solvents seems a bit ridiculous to me. When you use the right light naphtha, there is no solvent residue one would have to be concerned about, maybe a few ppm, just like in most cheap vegetable oils that are often produced with almost exactly the same solvent as what we recommend. How to Make a Small Batch of Rick Simpson Oil. DrT. H. Hunt DNM … I would also like to state Dr.T passed away June 1st 2015 …colon cancer 🙁

I only briefly read through this and plan on reading it when I have more time. I just wanted to say you can get 200 proof alcohol online Extractahol or Organic alcohol. com carry it. I have been making herbal tinctures and cannabis oil for years. ~ Kelley 🙂 https://www.extractohol.com/ https://organicalcohol.com/

In Rick Simpson’s instructions for producing his famous “Phoenix Tears” cannabis extract oil – particularly his popular YouTube video – He recommends “pure Naphtha” as the solvent of choice as well as a large polycarbonate bucket (and plastic ‘Culligan’ water jugs).

Perhaps he doesn’t know, and if not I’m sure many who have followed his instructions are similarly ignorant, but Naphtha will quickly degrade – and leach – plastic. In fact despite the title of his video, “How to Make Rick Simpson’s Medicinal Hemp Oil Safely”, this is probably one of the most dangerous ways to attempt a cannabis extraction.

I am fascinated with recent scientific research proving the efficacy of cannabinoids in treating carcinogenic tumors, but am upset that “Rick Simpson Oil” has taken the spotlight considering it has the potential to be carcinogenic itself. Has this been addressed? While cannabis does have wonderful medical properties, it shouldn’t be regarded as some sort of magical cure-all panacea. This is doing nothing but harming the legalization movement, and making cannabis users worldwide look ridiculous.
“Rick Simpson oil” is a badly made form of a truly powerful cannabis medicine – full extract cannabis oil made from buds, extracted with pure food grade ethanol (aka Everclear, grain alcohol). Rick used Naphtha, which is what he had — but I wouldn’t take the chance myself, food grade grain alcohol is the safest possible solvent and it’s the only one you should consume and not die.
Factsofthematter!!!!!
WHATARESOLVENTS?
The term “solvents” refers to liquid organic chemicals used to dissolve solid materials. Solvents
can be made from natural sources such as turpentine and the citrus solvents, but most are derived
from petroleum or other synthetic sources. Solvents are used widely because they dissolve
materials like resins and plastics, and because they evaporate quickly and cleanly.

What are unsafe solvents to use?
Naphtha and Hexane are other solvents used for extracting cannabinoids and are worthy of mention. Hexane is a petroleum distillate containing 6 carbon atoms, and is neurotoxic. Chronic exposure results in myelin sheath and axon degeneration. It has also been linked to Parkinson’s disease. Naphtha, found in kerosene, paint thinner, and used as a fuel, is also a petroleum distillate and contains heavier hydrocarbons such as n-Octane, n-Nonane, cycloalkanes, and branched alkanes of similar molecular weight. Naphtha and other byproducts found in the mixture are potentially cancer-causing. Because of these data, we do not recommend the use of these solvents for making concentrates. http://analytical360.com/cannabis-analysis-laboratory/residual-solvent-testing

As far as Cannabis Oil curing cancer — obviously there haven’t been any studies yet (thanks to the DEA and the federal government), but it’s happening underground, and first-hand experiences from across the world are telling an amazing story, and showing “terminal” cancers being put into remission with concentrated cannabis extracts.

There’s no peer reviewed studies yet — but I’ll say that if I developed cancer I’d try a 60g/60day ethanol-extracted cannabis oil treatment before I’d try chemo.

I just found this study: http://www.cannabis-med.org/data/pdf/en_2013_01_1.pdf

It claims that after analyzing samples they found significant PHC (petroleum hydrocarbon) residue in Rick Simpson’s method, and that plain olive oil is actually a better substitute (and not Isopropyl alcohol, as Rick Simpson also recommends). In fact, in the Rick Simpson method, they found as much residual Naphtha as terpene compounds – and I’m betting they didn’t use a plastic bucket…

When I tried searching for this article again today, I found what seems to be the official Rick Simpson Facebook page. They claim:

We do not recommend kerosene or Coleman fuel because it contains impurities and rust inhibitors etc. Pure light aliphatic naphtha (petrol or benzine used for industrial purposes in Europe) with a boiling point around 80-100C leaves no residue one would have to be concerned about when the oil is produced properly.

Scientists from Bedrocan owe us a big apology. Do you really want medicine from a company that does not know the difference between kerosene and light aliphatic naphtha? We were with their representative in Slovenia, he could have asked but apparently he was too proud to ask and here is the result.

And this is a company that wants to supply medical cannabis worldwide and they pretend to be the biggest experts in the field. What else do they not know if they are able to produce a flawed report like this one? I will never believe anything they will publish, they don’t know what they are doing. And I will never ever buy anything from them.

This is truly disgusting what they did, and they either did it on purpose or out of ignorance and I don’t know which is worse.

This all seems pretty ridiculous. Even butane, with a boiling point of 0C makes more sense, but why would they continue defending the use of Naphtha – especially after recommending polycarbonate containers?

The study I found seems to imply that, assuming we heat and decarboxylate the plant matter before extraction, olive oil is a better option than any industrial solvent, even though it has a slightly lower THC output (not sure about CBD). I feel like there is something shady about using carcinogens to create medicine for people with cancer – isn’t that what they claim about chemotherapy in the first place? I agree, smokehound, his whole ethos seems really sketchy to me.

I would love to see a similar study done using coconut oil, as its high saturated fat content should make an even more potent extraction than olive oil.

Also, MajorStoner, from what I’ve read, although they have not documented ‘curing’ cancer, a number of studies have demonstrated cannabinoids’ antitumor effects: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/cannabis/healthprofessional/page4

Although I’m extracting with ethanol I can offer some marginal help. I mix my hash oil with other oils to produce repeatable doses. My most recent is mixed with a fish oil high in EPA, DHA & Vit. D. I think it drove bio-availability way up. Most of the hot water bath oil extraction methods lack a reasonable way to get to dose control.

If you want to do an oil extraction consider starting with Kief or bubble Hash that has been decarboxylated. You can weigh the hash and measure your oil before mixing and if you want filtering. About 3 gm of Kief mixed into 1 fluid Oz. of your favorite oil should produce a medicine that provides a medicinal dose in the 2 to 6 drop range. I use about 2 gm’s of hash oil to do the same thing.

So? Marijuana MAY be carcinogenic too. However, there is a HUGE misconception among the general population as to what carcinogenic means. An agent that only causes tissue damage may be called “carcinogenic” because that is a precancerous sign. However, that doesn’t mean that it causes cancer. It’s like how spots on your tongue may indicate cancer, but they more likely mean something else completely harmless (such as a canker sore). That’s why whenever referring to a carcinogen, scientists make use of the word “may cause cancer,” not will cause cancer. Also, many agents require certain conditions to be cancerous, and I see Naphtha as being no different. It might degrade certain substances, but have little effect on more organic substances when used in the way it is to make oil. Remember, the water that makes up the majority of this earth and the majority of your body contains the most volatile explosive on this planet – hydrogen. However, just because something is an explosive doesn’t mean that it is always volatile. The same thing is true with carcinogens – they act as carcinogens only under certain conditions. I see no problem in the use of this hemp oil.

The water example is a false equivalent; water is not dangerous because it is a stable molecule, and unless it undergoes electrolysis, it remains water. Naphtha is toxic and poisonous by itself, and in the research I posted a significant amount of naphtha remains in the final product (not to mention dissolved plastic residue from his buckets, and impurities in the solvent itself).

It seems to me that consuming even small amounts of naphtha – in addition to BPA and other plastic residues – over the course of Rick Simpson’s “treatment” is unwise for a healthy person, much less someone who is immunocompromised.

Even people who make BHO will purge their final product under a vacuum because even though butane boils at 0 C (much lower than naphtha), there will still be residual solvent and yes, it is toxic and dangerous. I feel like if Rick Simpson were really concerned with people’s health and felt that an industrial solvent was absolutely necessary to achieve the desired level of concentration, he would at least recommend the far more common method of BHO extraction.

Furthermore, the study I posted shows that naphtha is only nominally better than olive oil at extracting active compounds, and Rick Simpson’s method completely destroys terpene compounds. Why naphtha in a plastic bucket? Why not tell people with cancer to try cannabis coconut oil or butter – a well documented method humans have used for thousands of years?

Don’t forget the cooks exposure to the Naphtha and the fact that when it is boiled to atmosphere that there will be an impact on the environment. Whether it re-condenses and falls with the rain to create a down wind brown field or remains up there contributing to the greenhouse gases matters little. Trading the future for this is a bad trade.

<<<Furthermore, the study I posted shows that naphtha is only nominally better than olive oil at extracting active compounds, and Rick Simpson’s method completely destroys terpene compounds. Why naphtha in a plastic bucket? Why not tell people with cancer to try cannabis coconut oil or butter – a well documented method humans have used for thousands of years?>>>

So in this method, what exactly would you do? Just replace the naphtha with coconut oil and follow the rest of the directions exactly?

With coconut oil you are making a direct edible. Many cancer patients and other patients cut the RSO with it before capping it up. It’s easier to get dose control that way. He is just cutting out the middle man, in this case that is the naphtha. As long as he can sift a good kif or make a good bubble hash he can weigh & measure and get to the same quantity of medicine in a cap as you can with RSO. Not all of us vape or smoke our meds.
life is carcinogenic, there is no safety, that’s an illusion some people choose to propagate and deceive others with. with that being said i could care less about trace contaminants in anything simply because no one has any way of eliminating them. we live with millions of trace contaminants everyday and we’re still here, perhaps the OP should find something else to worry about.
if the person is planning to take the oil for the rest of their lives then yeah, come up with something else but for people who are sick need to take now and be done with it to get rid of their sickness. compared to properly purged RSO and the whole cycle of using RSO people will get more toxins in their body from driving to the store and breathing their neighbors car exhaust.

Couldn’t one use dry ice to extract using a bubble bag – say size 73 – and then decarb for an hour, mix with some coconut oil and be pretty much the same thing as RSO? research polar and non polar solvents and that will give your answer as to why one is better than the other.

This would also eliminate any strong chemical for the extraction.

RUN FROM THE CURE – The Rick Simpson Story – Full Length DVD HQ
Mineral Spirits, also called Stoddard Solvent [CAS 8052-41-3][1], is a petroleum distillate commonly used as a paint thinner and mild solvent. In Europe, it is referred to as white spirit. In industry, mineral spirits is used for cleaning and degreasing machine tools and parts. According to Wesco, a supplier of solvents and cleaning equipment, mineral spirits “are especially effective in removing oils, greases, carbon, and other material from metal.” Mineral spirits may also be used in conjunction with cutting oil as a thread cutting and reaming lubricant.

Artists use mineral spirits as an alternative to turpentine, one that is both less flammable and less toxic. Because of interactions with pigments, artists require a higher grade of mineral spirits than many industrial users, including the complete absence of residual sulphur. Odorless Mineral Spirits are mineral spirits that have been further refined to remove the more toxic aromatic compounds, and are recommended for applications such as oil painting, where humans have close contact with the solvent. According to Robert Gamblin of Gamblin Artists Colors, the best brands contain 100% aliphatic compounds, and dry without leaving any residue.

A typical composition for mineral spirits is the following: aliphatic solvent hexane having a maximum aromatic hydrocarbon content of 0.1% by volume, a kauri-butanol value of 29, an initial boiling point of 149 °F (65 °C), a dry point of approximately 156 °F (69 °C), and a specific mass of 0.7 g/cc. In the European Community, the composition of mineral spirits comes from Article 11(2) of Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE).

Doesn’t really sound all that bad to me at all. In fact, it is just a less pure form of Hexane, which is the best oil seperating solvent available, used in commercial oil extraction.

i hate using chemicals for making hash….except when i make BHO..if you are going to use denatured alcohol..atleast do it properly so you don’t get sick….i hope you have a laboratory…LOL…….

A LIST OF LABWARE;

* 1 CONDENSER 300 MM JACKET
* 1 FLASK, FLORENCE (FLAT BOTTOM), 500 Ml
* 1 SEPARATORY FUNNEL 500 Ml
* 1 FUNNEL
* FILTER PAPER

A LIST OF CHEMICALS THAT YOU WILL NEED;

* ETHYL ALCOHOL / METHANOL (wood alcohol)
* SULFURIC ACID (Concentrate 96 to 98 %(you can use a weaker acid but the delta-9
conversion is greater with the stronger sulphuric acid)).
* TOLUENE
* WATER
* SODIUM BICARBONATE (baking soda)

NOTE; The most easy to find solvent for the extraction of the THC from the plant
matter, is denatured alcohol which is ethyl alcohol that has been made Poisson
with methanol (sunny side is a good brand of denatured alcohol). Methanol can
cause blindness and death ! So don’t drink this stuff, and make sure when you
separate the layers as described later on in this process, you don’t get any of
the alcohol solvent layer in with the toluene layer.

Well, now that we have gathered all these solvents and glass ware, we will have
some of the best hash oil in about 8 hours that you will ever find. So on to the
process of extracting and izmerizing the cannabis essence.

STEP #1
You must dry your plant matter to a state where it will crumble into a fine powder.

TIP; use you microwave oven, heat the plant matter for 1 to 2 min at a time then
let cool, do this till it is completely dry. To crumble the plant matter, place it
in a 1 gallon plastic zip-lock bag and proceed to crush it with your hands. This
works very well.

STEP #2 Place the powdered plant matter into your 500 Ml flat-bottomed flask.

STEP #3 Add enough denatured alcohol solvent to completely cover the plant matter,
so that it floats freely in the solvent.

STEP #4 Connect the your condenser to the flask. (Connecting the condenser to a
water source).

STEP #5 Now, slowly heat the solvent / plant matter to reflux. Let this reflux for
about two hours.

STEP #6 Turn the heat off your reflux equipment, let every thing cool down to room
temperature.

STEP #7 Remove the condenser from the flask.

STEP #8 Now add your sulfuric acid to the solvent / plant matter solution, use one
drop sulfuric acid per 50 ML solvent used.

STEP #9 Replace your condenser to your flask and heat to reflux once more, leave
it at reflux for 4 more hours.

Note; this is where all the magic takes place.

STEP #10 turn off heat, let every thing cool to room temperature.

Note; The alcohol will have a dark black color at this point, it will seem to be
almost thick.

STEP #11 Neutralize the alcohol with sodium bicarbonate.(backing soda)

Tip; When it stops fizzing you will have a neutral or slightly basic solution.

STEP #12 Filter the solvent from the plant matter with the use of your funnel and
filter paper.

Note; If you are going to be doing a lot of oil production you should get a filter
flask, aspirator and a buchner funnel. See the watchers chemistry works for
information on filtering.

STEP #13 Add as much water as you have alcohol / thc extract.

Note; Toluene mixes with alcohol in all parts so you will not be able to separate
the alcohol / toluene layers if you don’t add this water.

STEP #14 Add about 1/3 as much toluene as you have alcohol / water to your flask.

STEP #15 Mix all this well for about 30 seconds.

Note 1; As the THC dose not want to stay in the alcohol / water layer it will move
with ease into the toluene layer.

STEP #16 Now use your separatory funnel to sperate the two layers.

Note; The toluene / THC layer will be on top. Also the bottom layer should be a
light green color.

Important; If the bottom layer still has a black color you should do steps #14 to
# 16 one more time, but once is usually enough.

STEP #17 Evaporate the toluene / THC layer till you can no longer smell any trace
of toluene.

Note; when the toluene has evaporated you will have left in the bottom of your
glass baking dish a black oil with a slight spice smell.

Well people there you have it the over night process for the extraction
of hash oil……have fun and don’t kill yourself …..

The best way to avoid the high of the oil is to sip orange juice or consume crunched up pepper corns .. the oils bring you down.. but the best suggestion for people who are sensitive is to take CITICOLINE.. 250 MG OR 500 MG TWO TIME A DAY NOT AFTER 3 PM.. can keep you wawake

What is the best way…. most will state dosed rectally and you do get high If the oil is decarboxilated. Granted nowhere near as high as if orally consumed or smoked. If not decarbed thca doesn’t become thc and no high.

Also The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors located in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors. Known as “the body’s own cannabinoid system, the ECS is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

Two primary endocannabinoid receptors have been identified: CB1, first cloned in 1990; CB2, cloned in 1993. CB1 receptors are found predominantly in the brain and nervous system, as well as in peripheral organs and tissues, and are the main molecular target of the endocannabinoid ligand (binding molecule), Anandamide, as well as its mimetic phytocannabinoid, THC. One other main endocannabinoid is 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) which is active at both cannabinoid receptors, along with its own mimetic phytocannabinoid, CBD. 2-AG and CBD are involved in the regulation of appetite, immune system functions and pain management

THE BEST WAY TO PRODUCE CANNABIS OIL by Dr Arno Hazekamp

What is Cannabis oil?

Concentrated cannabis extracts, also known as Cannabis oils because of their sticky and viscous appearance, are increasingly mentioned by self-medicating patients as a cure for cancer. In general, preparation methods for Cannabis oil are relatively simple and do not require particular instruments. The purpose of the extraction, often followed by a solvent evaporation step, is to make cannabinoids and other beneficial components such as terpenes available in a highly concentrated form. Cannabis oil is usually taken orally, by ingesting a small number of drops several times a day. Please find here some information on the question whether cannabis can cure cancer.

How is Cannabis oil prepared?

Various methods have been described for the preparation of Cannabis oil. The most popular method, as described by former (skin)cancer patient Rick Simpson from Canada, suggests the use of naphtha or petroleum ether as a solvent for the extraction. Following the success of Simpson oil, a number of related recipes have sprung up, emphasizing small but significant changes to the original recipe. Examples include focusing on safer solvents such as ethanol, or preventing exposure to organic solvents altogether, by using olive oil.

What is naphtha or petroleum-ether?

In general, petroleum-ether and naphtha refer to very similar products, even though different names may be used around the world; e.g. in some countries naphtha is equivalent to diesel or kerosene fuel. Both solvents are a mixture of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), often available in a wide range of qualities. All the solvent components should be considered harmful and flammable, and some of them, such as hexane and benzene, may be neurotoxic. Both naphtha and petroleum-ether are considered potential cancer hazards according to their manufacturers. Moreover, products sold as naphtha may contain added impurities (e.g. Coleman® fuel) which may have harmful properties of their own.

Are residual solvents a health risk?

Although Cannabis oils are usually concentrated by evaporating the solvents that were used for extraction, this does not completely eliminate residual solvents. As a result of sample viscosity, the more concentrated an extract becomes, the more difficult it will be to remove the residual solvent from it. In such a case, applying more heat will increase solvent evaporation, but simultaneously more beneficial components (such as cannabinoids or terpenes) may be lost as well. The use of non-toxic solvents should therefore always be advised, so that potential residues are not harmful to health.

What is the best and healthiest way to prepare Cannabis oil?
Recently, an analytical study was performed to compare several generally used preparation methods on the basis of cannabinoids, terpenes, and residual solvent components. Solvents tested included ethanol, naphtha, petroleum-ether, and olive oil. Based on this study, the following recommendations can be made:

As extraction solvents, ethanol and olive oil were shown to perform the best, extracting the full range of terpenes and cannabinoids present in cannabis plant material very efficiently. Additionally these solvents are safe for consumption.

Unfortunately, pure ethanol also extracts large amounts of chlorophyll from cannabis material, which will give the final extract a distinct green, and often unpleasant, taste. Removing chlorophyll by filtering the ethanol extract over activated charcoal was found to be effective, but it also removed a large proportion of cannabinoids and terpenes, and is therefore not advised. Additionally, in many countries consumption-grade ethanol is an expensive solvent, as a result of added tax on alcohol products.

Of the solvents tested, this leaves olive oil as the most optimal choice for preparation of cannabis oil for self-medication. Olive oil is cheap, not flammable or toxic, and the oil needs to be heated up only to 100°C (by placing a glass jar containing the product in boiling water for 1-2 hours) so no overheating of the oil can occur. After cooling down and filtering the oil it is immediately ready for consumption. As a trade-off, however, olive oil extract cannot be concentrated by evaporation, which means patients will need to consume a larger volume of it in order to get the same therapeutic results.

Preheating of cannabis to ‘activate’ (decarboxylate) the cannabinoids may result in loss of terpenes as a result of evaporation. If the full range of terpenes is desired in the final Cannabis oil, dried buds and leaves can be used directly for extraction, without preheating.

Key Takeaways:

07:06 Cannabis Stigma: The cannabis plant has been bred by farmers to be high in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component. The plant originally has a much lower THC content. It is a complex plant with many compounds and many cannabinoids that produce different effects. CBD (cannabidiol) modulates the THC effect. Consuming the plant with all of its compounds is beneficial. It does not need to be smoked. It can be as a tincture, as an oil, an alcohol base, in an edible, as a patch, or as a topical.

09:42 The Endocannabinoid System: This is a system of receptors throughout our bodies, called CB1 and CB2 receptors and others. They sit on the cells in our body within various systems. These receptors are in our brain, our gut, our immune system and other places. There are zero deaths from cannabis overdose because we do not have these receptors in our brainstem. You may react to an overdose in some other way, depending upon your genetics.

13:16 Cannabis Seizure Treatments: Cannabis has application for seizure disorders. The ratio of CBD to THC for people with seizures depends upon the person. It gives the patient the ability to titrate. Most of the time for the effects of cannabis, less is more.

17:36 Health Benefits of Daily Cannabis Consumption: The endocannabinoid system exists in all humans and animals all the way down to sea squirts. This can be upregulated by cannabinoids and other lifestyle behaviors like exercise, sex or for babies, breastfeeding. Cannabinoids are adaptogenic.

23:12 The Benefits of THC: There are different levels of THC from hemp to cannabis, from strain to strain and plant to plant. THC can modulate many effects in the body, including immune function. The THC component is important for treating seizures.

27:12 Influences upon Our Body’s Endocannabinoid System: Besides exercise, sex, and meditation, there may be other ways to influence it as well. However, we are unable to measure the endocannabinoid system. There is much research to be done. Most of the research has been done outside the US, particularly in Israel, where it is not federally illegal.

29:23 The Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Modulatory Effects: The federal government deems cannabis as a schedule one drug, meaning that it has not benefit. The federal government has a patent on cannabis as an antioxidant. Cannabis is an incredible anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Cannabis helps to tighten the junctures in leaky gut and calms the digestive system. Cannabis is being used as an exit drug from addiction to alcohol, cocaine, opiates and amphetamines.

32:50 Cannabis and Mitochondria: There is research upon the use of cannabis and mitochondrial disorders. It is already being seen as effective with those of us with MS and ALS, mitochondrial disorders.

34:49 Contaminants: By consuming the cannabis plant, you receive the benefits of the entourage compounds. However, some states require that the plant not be smoked. Extractions could involve butane or CO2 and other things could be added. During one water extraction, researchers found high levels of alcohol and butane. This turned out to be residue from equipment cleaning. In addition, there are no guidelines for organic cannabis.

37:11 The Best Delivery Method: Laura thinks that all formats can be valuable. Most practitioners would recommend vaporizing, rather than smoking. Within 3 seconds to a minute after smoked cannabis hits your lungs, your blood levels will be in full cannabinoid effect. Most edibles, cannabis infused food, are sugar laden junk food. It will take from 45 minutes to 2 hours to reach effect. For edibles, go low and start slow. Oils work well for children with seizures. You need to make sure it is quality oil.

42:58 Better Strains: Sativa is the more calming strain and Inica is the more uplifting strain. The strain for seizure disorder would have a higher level of CBD and lower THC. The strain for ADHD might have a CBD derived from cannabis and very little THC. Durban Poison strain is popular for ADD. It has a higher THC content, so the dosage is very low. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmT4cDuDj7s

Being a stoner is not an excuse to be uninformed! Gone are the days when the only bits of wisdom you could expect from stoners are what toppings to order on the pizza or the finer points of Star Wars versus Star Trek. Today’s new breed of stoners is more knowledgeable than ever, and they work just as hard as anyone to learn about an exceedingly wide array of different topics. If you would like to give your brain cells a bit of a workout, and you want to learn more about marijuana in the process, these documentaries are definitely worth your while!

Grass – The History of Marijuana

This one is as good a place to start as any. Directed by Ron Mann, Grass – The History of Marijuana details the various uses of cannabis throughout its long history. Straddling the line between pure documentary and entertainment, this 1999 production gives you a clear idea of how marijuana’s reputation has been damaged by propaganda. It then follows the aftermath of the early years of the weed scare to the now-reviled War on Drugs which has caused the imprisonment of thousands and the loss of billions of dollars.

Magic Weed: History of Marijuana

This 1995 production is directed by Martin Baker, and features a wealth of information about hemp and the various products derived from the marijuana plant. More in line with the formal documentary, Magic Weed: History of Marijuana focuses on the years of cannabis and hemp prohibition in the United States. A fascinating look into marijuana before and during the time it was banned entirely, the documentary features interviews with such noted figures as Michka Seeliger

In Pot We Trust

In this documentary directed by Star Price, the focus is on five chronically-ill patients who rely on marijuana in varying degrees for their treatment. Featuring comments made by Doctor Lester Grinspoon, In Pot We Trust is remarkable in that it features the points of view of legalization proponents and opponents alike. Released in 2007, this documentary is a compelling look at both sides of the legalization issue.

Should I Smoke Dope?

This is an entertaining and often humorous documentary detailing a few days in the life if a non-pot smoker (journalist Nicky Taylor) who does some in-depth research into the effects of cannabis. Taylor’s research leads her to work in a coffee shop, talk to law enforcement authorities, and visit the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum.

Medical marijuana. It’s promoted as a seeming panacea that can cure whatever ails you. While there are potentially useful medicinal compounds in marijuana, in general the medical marijuana movement vastly oversells the promise. The truth is far more prosaic and nuanced.

Medical marijuana as the new herbalism, part 2: Cannabis does not cure cancer….

Medical marijuana. It’s promoted as a seeming panacea that can cure whatever ails you. In particular, it’s touted, primarily in the form of cannabis oil extract, as a cure for cancer that “they” don’t want you to know about. While there are potentially useful medicinal compounds in marijuana, in general the medical marijuana movement vastly oversells the promise. While some cannabinoids do have modest antitumor activity in vitro, there is no compelling evidence that cannabis can cure cancer.

Yet that doesn’t stop a proliferation of testimonials claiming that cannabis cured. https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/medical-marijuana-as-the-new-herbalism-part-3-a-cannabis-cures-cancer-testimonial/

Medical marijuana as the new herbalism, part 4: Cannabis for autism….

Medical marijuana. It’s promoted as a seeming panacea that can cure whatever ails you. While there are potentially useful medicinal compounds in marijuana, in general the medical marijuana movement vastly oversells the promise. Nowhere is this more true than for cancer and autism, where there is no compelling evidence that cannabis cures cancer. Worse, parents are subjecting autistic children to cannabis with no evidence and even persuading state governments to list autism as a condition for which medical marijuana is appropriate.

Why can all of your cells commit suicide?

growth-death-balanceWe’ve discussed how cells can grow and divide through the cell cycle and a process called mitosis. Equally as important to cells growing and dividing is the ability of cells to die. Why do cells have to die?

During human development cell death is necessary. For example, in the womb fingers and toes are attached to one another by a webbing made of cells. During development, these cells die so that your fingers and toes are separate. A great non-human example of cells dying during development is the tadpoleDevmetamorphosis of a tadpole into a frog. The cells of the tadpole tail die to make a mature frog that does not have a tail. As an adult, your hair, skin, gut and other cells constantly divide. In fact ~ 60 billion cells are made each day. Imagine if cells didn’t also die each day – you’d be ENORMOUS!

This cell suicide is called apoptosis (pronounced a-pah-toe-sis) after the Greek meaning “dropping off ” or ” falling off ” of petals from flowers, or leaves from tree. Apoptosis is a mechanism that every single cell in your body has to commit suicide. Why in the world would this mechanism exist? In part, it exists for the reasons mentioned above – to also remove unneeded tissue during development or to balance out cell growth. But apoptosis also provides a fail safe for cells to remove themselves if they become damaged so they don’t damage the rest of the organism.

apoptosisSo how does apoptosis work? Obviously your cells don’t just kill themselves willy nilly. The cell must receive a trigger the initiates the process.

These triggers can either come from inside or outside the cell. For example, UV light from outside of the cell can trigger damage to the DNA. If this damage isn’t repaired, it will start the process of apoptosis. As another example, when cancer cells are treated with chemotherapy, this often damages the DNA or messes with the cell cycle so much that it triggers apoptosis.

Once triggered, proteins are activated that act like protein scissors, cutting up proteins and DNA inside the cell. This does a few things: it shuts down activity within a cell and makes the pieces of the cell smaller … so that they can be packaged up and thrown away. It’s like a kitchen demo (or any kind of demolition)– you knock down the cabinets with a sledgehammer so that they don’t work to hold your dishes anymore and then break them into small enough pieces that they can easily be thrown in the dumpster. Once cell pieces are broken down, the cell packages up the contents (called blebs – see picture at right) and blebbingthese blebs are eaten (actually, they are absorbed… but “eating blebs” is more fun to say) by neighboring cells. What’s so awesome about this process is that no trace of the cell is left. It’s a clean suicide that leaves no trace of the body behind. Why is this important?

We can compare apoptosis to another type of cell death called necrosis. If you cut your arm, cells die by necrosis and they spill their contents everywhere. When this happens, your arm can get inflamed and this inflammatory reaction can be bad for you. During apoptosis, since everything is cleaned up nice and neat, there is no inflammation and the body can just move along as if nothing happened.

apoptosis_diseaseNow what if the trigger is defective or the machinery is broken and cells don’t die when they are supposed to? This is one of the causes of cancer. Of course cancer is a result of too many cells, but this can either be from cells growing too fast OR from cells not dying when they are supposed to OR a combination of both. On the other hand, what if too many cells die when they aren’t supposed to?

This can cause the neurodegeneration found in Alzheimer’s disease or the loss of immune cells in HIV/AIDS infection. Therefore, understanding apoptosis and the exact way that cells die can help scientists to induce cell suicide (e.g., to kill cancer cells) or prevent it when needed.

How and why do cells divide? The cell cycle!

You started off as one cell: one tiny little zygote containing a full set of DNA (23 pairs of chromosomes). As an adult human being, you are now made up of over 37 trillion cells. This means that that one cell divided to make two cells, each of those cells divided to make 4 cells, those 4 cells divided to make 8 cells and on and on until the 37 trillion cells that make up you today. Even now, your body makes around 60 billion cells each day to create new skin cells, intestine cells, hair cells and and nail cells. When you cut yourself, the body needs to make new cells to heal. And if your cells divide out of control, this can cause cancer and if they stop diving this causes of aging. So understanding how cells divide is super important!

The cell cycle, which is the process of one cell and one set of DNA turing into two cells with two sets of DNA. There are three main parts of the cell cycle:

1. To make two cells from one, you can imagine that a few important things need to happen. First, you need the cell to grow to get bigger and to accumulate enough nutrients to support two cells. Second, you need to replicate the DNA so that when the cell divides, each “daughter” cell gets one copy of the DNA. These two things happen in the interphase part of the cell cycle. Interphase is separated into 3 parts

  • Gap 1 (usually just called G1 phase) where the cell grows
  • Synthesis (usually just called S phase) where the DNA is copied so that two complete copies of DNA are now in the cell
  • Gap 2 (usually just called G2) where the cell grows some more

Metaphase

The chromosomes (shown in blue) condense and line up before being pulled into two cells by microtubules (shown in green)
By Roy van Heesbeen (Roy) [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

2. Once the cell has copied the DNA and grown big enough to split into two cells, the cell undergoes mitosis. Mitosis is when the copied chromosomes are separated into two different cells. Remember that if you took all the DNA in a cell and stretched it out from end to end that it would be 6-10 feet long? Since this DNA is already replicated by the time the cell gets to mitosis, there are 92 chromosomes (two copies of the two pairs of 23 chromosomes) and 12-20 feet of DNA that needs to be organized and sorted into two separate cells. How does the cell make this nearly impossible sounding task happen? First, when each chromosome makes a copy of itself, it stays connected to the orignal (kind of like if there were little protein magnets holding them together). mitosis

Second, when the chromosomes are ready to separate into different cells they “condense”, getting much, much smaller (see the blue DNA in the photo above). Third, there are mechanisms in the cell that make the chromosomes line up. So what you end up with are all of the chromosomes in tight little bundles lined up in a row. At that point, the cell creates “ropes” out of a protein called microtubules that pull the copied chromosomes apart into the two separate cells.

cytokinesis
Thirdly, now that the DNA is separated into the two new cells, these cells have to officially split into two in a process called cytokinesis. You can imagine this is like pulling a drawstring closed to pinch the space between the two cells until they have completely split apart.

Fixing Our Genes, by Magdalena Eriksson

Sensational headlines have been streaming across presses for several years now: GENE FOR OBESITY FOUND, SCIENTISTS IDENTIFY GENE LINKED TO HEART DISEASE, or CANCER GENE GIVES HOPE FOR CURE. Each refuels the hope that powerful therapies against such major health threats will soon emerge from the pipeline of medical science. Diagnostics based on genetics are now commonly used, for example, when considering surgery against breast cancer, and in prenatal screening for inheritable diseases. But we’re still waiting for a generation of genetic treatments that may provide miraculous cure-alls to our most persistent and pernicious illnesses.

Expectations of genetic medicine surged after a breakthrough in 1990, when four-year-old Ashanthi De Silva from Cleveland became the first gene therapy patient. The girl suffered from a problem called severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), often dubbed “bubble-boy syndrome” since its sufferers must live in a sterile environment or risk acquiring a life-threatening infection. De Silva’s form of SCID was caused by a mutation in the gene for the protein adenosine deaminase, or ADA, an enzyme that is necessary for the immune system. De Silva’s body could not produce functioning ADA.

In a pioneering experiment, De Silva’s doctors gave her healthy copies of the gene that produces ADA. They placed the healthy gene inside a modified virus and allowed the virus to infect blood cells they had drawn from De Silva. They then injected the blood cells back into her body. The girl’s new gene started to generate functioning ADA, resuscitating her immune system, and she has since lived a healthy life.

Yet, after this initial success, subsequent gene therapy procedures haven’t always been so trouble-free. In De Silva’s case, the single healthy gene she received was sufficient to restore her immune system. People who suffer from other single-gene diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, sickle-cell anemia, or hemophilia, may also find help in gene therapy. But many genetic diseases involve the malfunction of multiple genes, and fixing one gene is often a formidable task.

In a Paris hospital in 2001, a group of young children who, like De Silva, suffered from SCID participated in a study. In these children, SCID was caused by a mutation in a gene called gamma-c. Through gene therapy, they received DNA with a flawless gamma-c gene, which was expected to stimulate the growth of immune cells in their bone marrow. For most of the children, the treatment was a success. The gamma-c gene became an established component of the children’s bone marrow cells, and they were able to live normal lives.

Time passed and suddenly the good news turned dark. A year after the treatment, in October of 2002, one of the children developed leukemia. At first, doctors dismissed the incidence as bad luck, but when a second child, in January 2003, also developed leukemia, they began to look for the cause.

They learned that genes delivered through viruses prefer to integrate at active, loosely packed, portions of the genome, rather than at random sites. The new gene had inserted itself near a gene called LMO2, which plays a role in leukemia. This unexpected DNA insertion turned on the production of the LMO2 protein, which caused the development of leukemia.

The doctors had inadvertently discovered another factor to consider for making gene therapy safe. The two children have since recovered from their leukemia, but the experiment shows the risks required for scientists to make progress and steadily increase their knowledge.

The French trial also illustrates how complex our genetic systems are and how difficult it is to predict what will happen when we upset its fine-tuned balance. If you touch one gene, surprising connections with other genes may announce themselves in unexpected ways. The very principle behind gene therapy sets it apart from many other therapies. Once a new gene has become a permanent part of the genome in a cell, you may no longer have the option of discontinuing the treatment in case its effects prove detrimental. For some time to come, gene therapy may remain a double-edged sword.

ANSWER SHEET / How does cancer develop /
SM_CLIL 2008-2010 / COMENIUS PROJECT / RADIATION & MEDICINE / Mag. Claudia Aumann
It is called the “guardian of the genome” and controls the cell cycle to enable the
repair of damaged DNA. In the diagram R marks the point where restriction of the
cycle can occur.
If the damage to the DNA is irreparable, p53 closes down the metabolic activities of
the cell and will cause it to commit suicide. This programmed cell death is called
apoptosis.
The p53 gene is mutated in a wide range of tumours, with the result that in the
affected cells the cell cycle clock spins out of control and the cells divide without
restraint.
Explain why more than one mutation is necessary to trigger cancer.
More than one mutation is necessary to trigger cancer, because there is more than
one gene that controls the cell cycle.
On the average a cancerous cell carries about 6 mutations of different genes. This
accumulation of mutations in cells is the cause that cancer does not develop all at
once.
Distinguish between benign and malignant tumours.
The two important differences between benign and malignant tumours are invasion
and spread.
In a benign tumour the cells divide uncontrollably, but do not spread to other parts of
the body. As they grow benign tumours push the surrounding normal tissues and
organs out of their way. Sometimes pressure from a benign tumour may damage
surrounding structures but the benign tumour never actually invades into those
structures.
Malignant tumours destroy the normal tissue around them as they increase in size
from the time it first begins to grow. Malignant tumours have the ability to spread by
sending off seedlings of tumour which can pass through the blood or lymphatic
system to other parts of the body. These seedlings then settle in other organs and
form metastases.
LIFESTYLE
Use the internet to find out how your lifestyle influences your personal risk of getting
cancer.
Evidence suggests that around half of all cases of cancer could be avoided if people
made changes to their lifestyle.
Half of the cancer cases could be prevented by lifestyle changes, such as:
· not smoking
· cutting back on alcohol
· keeping a healthy body weight
· eating a healthy, balanced diet
· keeping active
· staying safe in the sun

Bud Romine was diagnosed with incurable cancer in 1994. He was given three years to live. In 1996 a newspaper article caught his eye.

The article described the work of a local doctor, Brian Druker, who was testing a new kind of cancer drug. In 1997, months away from death, Bud Romine became the first patient ever to take Gleevec. Within 17 days, Bud had returned to perfect health. Indeed, the drug seems to cure everyone with Bud’s disease — Chronic Myeloid Leukemia — by fixing the DNA that causes it. Today, the prospect of more drugs that work at the level of DNA is a real one. In 1990, Gleevec was the only one in development. There are currently hundreds of drugs in development that might work in the same revolutionary way on different kinds of cancer.

The final work for the DNA scientists is identifying all the damaged genes that cause cancer. But with the Human Genome Project finished, a single lab will be able to do this in just five years. Fifty years after Crick and Watson discovered the double helix, the secret of life may finally be living up to its name.

The further our species gets from it’s bond with nature, the more difficult it is to maintain a sound mind , to be fulfilled. We are the only creatures on this Earth that use symbols to reference an alternate or secondary meaning. This documentary blatantly shows us how we use symbols for nearly anything you could imagine. There is at least one word or icon or gesture to insinuate everything our five senses can detect and then some. But along with this beautiful gift comes a flaw.

Most people are unwilling to seek and create their own interpretations of these symbols. Instead, they blindly submit to preconceived definitions and connotations given by sources unknown. Because of this, many things have been predetermined in our understanding of life without our knowledge. Words can be perverted and used to manipulate rather than to inform. Science is nothing more than someone with a guess on how something works and then compares it to things in nature. If at any point your guess is disproved by an experiment that contradicts your theory, it’s back to the drawing board. The great thing about science is that you don’t need a college degree to think of a solution on how something works that no one else has been able to figure out, and suddenly you are getting a Nobel prize in Physics. We just need to stop watching television and think for ourselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GCHHwG1n1U

What Hippocrates Knew?

What We Can Learn From Hippocrates, “The Father of Western Medicine”

Have you ever heard the quote, “Let food my thy medicine and medicine thy food”? Well it’s an awesome quote and captures health at it’s very essence.

25

Hippocrates was a Greek physician during Classical Greece. He was known as the “Father of Western Medicine”. Some how I don’t think western medicine resembles ANY of Hippocrates teachings.

So how did Hippocrates treat disease?

He was the first physician of his time to believe that illness WAS NOT punishment from the gods(what people believed at the time). He theorized that diseases were caused naturally and could be treated naturally.

During his time, human dissection was forbidden because they knew little about human anatomy and physiology. Therefore, patients were treated using general prognosis instead of diagnosis, which he was very successful with.

Hippocratic medicine was humble and passive. The therapeutic approach was based on “the healing power of nature”. According to this doctrine, the body contains within itself the power to re-balance the four humours and heal itself .Hippocratic therapy focused on simply easing this natural process. To this end, Hippocrates believed “rest and immobilization [were] of capital importance.”

In general, the Hippocratic medicine was very kind to the patient; treatment was gentle, and emphasized keeping the patient clean and sterile. For example, only clean water or wine were ever used on wounds, though “dry” treatment was preferable.

Hippocrates was reluctant to administer drugs and engage in specialized treatment that might prove to be wrongly chosen; generalized therapy followed a generalized diagnosis. Generalized treatments he prescribed include fasting and the consumption of apple cider vinegar. Hippocrates once said that “to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness.” However, potent drugs were used on certain occasions.

Hippocrates accomplished much in his time but after he died many of his practices were forgotten. I also believe physicians started searching for other means of treatment. Hippocrates believed that food could be used to improve health.

Many individuals today have ignored their diet. They no longer believe that their diet matters. That is a HUGE lie. There is no shortcut to being healthy. One cannot eat whatever they want and expect to be healthy. Yes, there is medication to “help” with certain ailments but it doesn’t fix the problem nor does it heal the body. The human body is a magnificent creation that can actually heal itself when given the right things. Ignoring our health problems, ignoring obesity, ignoring chronic illness is the worst thing we can do for ourselves.

Did you know that most people can reverse their diabetes and chronic illness through taking care of themselves? Did you know the medication imbalances other ares of the body causing harmful side effects? Just because some people ignore the side effects doesn’t mean they are not there.

This may sound harsh. Have you ever heard of tough love? That me. That’s why I do. Why? Because I care. I care enough about your personal health to tell you to put down the food that is slowly killing you and tell you to pick up REAL food. I care because I don’t want you to be obese or suffer from ailments or chronic pain or chronic illness.

We actually have the power to influence ourselves and change our health. It’s hard work but isn’t anything worth having? Some people believe fitness and being healthy is just about looks…WRONG! When you take care of yourself, your body completely changes from the inside out which happens to give you more attractive features.

What are the steps to achieving optimal health?

Achieving optimal health has many facets. It’s not just one thing.

Exercise is crucial for mental and physical health. I am not just talking about taking a walk. I am talking about actually pushing yourself and challenging yourself because that is where you will find your results.

Nutrition is KEY! How do I define good nutrition? A diet that consists of no processed foods (or VERY rarely, not on a daily basis), no sugary drinks such as soda and juices. I say juices because it is loaded with sugar and most of the time has tons of added sugar, sometimes as much as an energy drink. Eating whole foods such as vegetables, lean meats, protein, nuts, grains(if your body does well with them). Limiting candy, cakes, pasties, coffees with sugar, syrup and whip cream. READ LABELS.

You may think that sounds hardcore, but sugar does more harm to our body than good. I am not saying kick out all sugar, but I am saying to eat the right forms and to eat it in moderation. I have learned all this the hard way and doing all these things myself. Heck, I used to have a sugar drawl and went to it daily. Even though I take great care of my teeth, sugar has destroyed my teeth. When we eat sugar, if we do not burn it off right away it is stored in our midsection. So next time you indulge I want you to ask yourself if you are prepared to work it off. Our bodies also become accustomed to the amount of sugar we eat. It becomes an addiction and this is where we develop cravings. BUT it’s never too late! You can detox from sugar and your body will not crave sugar as much anymore. But that’s all up to you.

The ball is in your court. Your health is in your hands, not your doctors. Doctors are more like people to receive guidance from and consult with…sometimes they are even wrong. Be proactive about your health and get back to basics. I promise you won’t regret it. But giving up or giving in will do you more disservice. Care about yourself and let it show!

In the words of Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine thy food”.

As a personal invitation, if you are reading this blog and want optimal health but feel you do not have the support you need to succeed, comment or contact me. I do care about your individual health and if all you need is some support, I am here! I am here if you do not know where to start. Let’s get you in the best shape of your life! Let’s get you feeling better! Let’s create the best version of you!

The principles taught by Hippocrates are,
1. a physician should work not for personal gain but for love of humanity,
2. disease should be studied by meticulous observation, and cases should be carefully recorded
and studied to establish a prognosis,
3. disease is often the result of environmental forces, diet, climate, and occupation, and
4. a physician should emphasize simple treatment supplemented with careful diet and surgical intervention when necessary.
In spite of the breathtaking rapidity of developments in modern Medicine, the basic concepts are
still the same.
Greek philosopher Plato called Hippocrates, “The Asclepiad of Kos.” Greek philosopher Aristotle
said that, Hippocrates was called “The Great Physician.” Hippocrates had a philosophical approach
to Medicine. He regarded the body as a “WHOLE” – that is, as an Organism.
.
His medical practice resulted from his collection of information regarding parts of the body into an embracing concept and thereafter, the division of the “WHOLE” into its parts. He had promoted Medicine based on objective observation and deductive reasoning.
Hippocrates stated that it is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has. In a quote attributed to Hippocrates, he claimed that wherever the
art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity. Hippocrates may not have authored the so-called “Hippocratic Oath”, but he could have stressed the ethical code for the medical profession. He had also stressed the importance of diet and hygiene.

Natural Science provides systematized knowledge of the physical world and its branches include Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, and Geology. The Faculty of Medicine represents Biological Sciences that are concerned with knowledge bearing on the relation of man to nature. Medical Science as a Natural Science must be concerned with the following two questions:

1. What is the Status of Man in Nature?

2. What is the true or real Nature of Man?

The first question deals with man’s relationship with the physical world in which man exists. The physical world represents the total of all things in Time and Space or the entire physical universe.
The term Nature includes the Power, Force, and Laws that regulate or operate in the physical world.
In Biology, the Theory of Evolution proposes a view about the origin of species and it describes that things in Nature change under the influence of Time. It opposes various cultural, and religious beliefs about the origin of man and his Status as a Created Being. The second question is about the essential characteristics or qualities that makes or describes man’s essence as a Human Being. The Nature of Man deals with the inborn character, innate disposition, and inherent tendencies of the Whole Person and it includes the instincts, desires, appetites, drives etc., of the Person apart from the vital functions of specialized organs. Man’s Nature could be detected from the activities of the human organism and from the forces that operate and influence these activities.

Eat Food. Not Too much. Mostly Plants.Michael Pollan, renowned food expert and journalist, 2007 A.D.

The healing properties of food have been reported by cultures worldwide throughout history. However, the past decade has presented an explosion of clinical research to show specifically what health benefits individual foods can offer, identifying the various nutrients and phytochemicals associated with these benefits.

Many fruits, vegetables, and unprocessed whole foods have properties that can benefit our health. Studies also in the past decade have taken nutritional research beyond protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. Chemicals in the plants called phytochemicals have been a specific focus in the past decade, offering benefits such as cancer prevention, cholesterol reduction, and hormone regulation, to name a few.

There is truly a cornucopia of nutritional benefits that have been:

Hippocratic theory

Hippocrates is credited with being the first person to believe that diseases were caused naturally, not because of superstition and gods. Hippocrates was credited by the disciples of Pythagoras of allying philosophy and medicine. He separated the discipline of medicine from religion, believing and arguing that disease was not a punishment inflicted by the gods but rather the product of environmental factors, diet, and living habits. Indeed there is not a single mention of a mystical illness in the entirety of the Hippocratic Corpus. However, Hippocrates did work with many convictions that were based on what is now known to be incorrect anatomy and physiology, such as Humourism.

In ancient Greece, the knowledge of Medicine was imparted at Medical Schools and such institutions of Learning were known as ‘Askleipion’.

Humorism

The Hippocratic school held that illness was the result of an imbalance in the body of the four humours, fluids which were naturally equal in proportion (pepsis). When the four humours, blood, black bile, yellow bile and phlegm, were not in balance (dyscrasia, meaning “bad mixture”), a person would become sick and remain that way until the balance was somehow restored. Hippocratic therapy was directed towards restoring this balance. For instance, utilizing citrus was thought to be beneficial when an overabundance of phlegm was suspected.

rn from Ancient Greek medicine?

Ancient Greek schools of medicine were split (into the Knidian and Koan) on how to deal with disease. The Knidian School of medicine focused on diagnosis. Medicine at the time of Hippocrates knew almost nothing of human anatomy and physiology because of the Greek taboo forbidding the dissection of humans. The Knidian School consequently failed to distinguish when one disease caused many possible series of symptoms. The Hippocratic School or Koan School achieved greater success by applying general diagnoses and passive treatments. Its focus was on patient care and prognosis, not diagnosis. It could effectively treat diseases and allowed for a great development in clinical practice.

Crisis

Another important concept in Hippocratic medicine was that of a crisis, a point in the progression of disease at which either the illness would begin to triumph and the patient would succumb to death, or the opposite would occur and natural processes would make the patient recover. After a crisis, a relapse might follow, and then another deciding crisis. According to this doctrine, crises tend to occur on critical days, which were supposed to be a fixed time after the contraction of a disease. If a crisis occurred on a day far from a critical day, a relapse might be expected.
Hippocratic medicine was humble and passive. The therapeutic approach was based on “the healing power of nature” (“vis medicatrix naturae” in Latin). According to this doctrine, the body contains within itself the power to re-balance the four humours and heal itself (physis). Hippocratic therapy focused on simply easing this natural process. To this end, Hippocrates believed “rest and immobilization [were] of capital importance.” In general, the Hippocratic medicine was very kind to the patient; treatment was gentle, and emphasized keeping the patient clean and sterile. For example, only clean water or wine were ever used on wounds, though “dry” treatment was preferable.
Hippocrates was reluctant to administer drugs and engage in specialized treatment that might prove to be wrongly chosen; generalized therapy followed a generalized diagnosis. However, potent drugs were used on certain occasions. This passive approach was very successful in treating relatively simple ailments such as broken bones which required traction to stretch the skeletal system and relieve pressure on the injured area. The Hippocratic bench and other devices were used to this end.
One of the strengths of Hippocratic medicine was its emphasis on prognosis. At Hippocrates’ time, medicinal therapy was quite immature, and often the best thing that physicians could do was to evaluate an illness and predict its likely progression based upon data collected in detailed case histories.

Medicine is the Science and Art of Diagnosing, Curing, and Preventing Disease and it includes the relief of pain, minimizing of disabilities, improving, preserving and maintaining health. The term ‘Medicine’ is also used to describe any drug or other substance used in treating disease, healing, or relieving pain. In several native traditions across the globe, Medicine may include any object, spell, rite, etc., supposed to have natural or supernatural powers as a remedy, curative, preventive, or protective. The idea of ‘Take One’s Medicine describes the requirement to endure just punishment or accepting the results of one’s action. In my view, Medicine must be concerned with the status of man in the universe, in his natural environment, in his social community while the man exists as an individual with individuality. In other words, Medicine as a Science must primarily be concerned with the biological basis for the reality of man’s physical existence in the world. A systematic study of the biological basis of human existence would demand the study of Soul and Spirit as the vital, animating principle found in all living things. I seek the existence of Soul and Spirit in a substance that is basic to life activities. Spirit or Soul must be found in a living material substance that is responsible for all living processes. The term Soul and Spirit belong to the materialistic realm where the physical reality of man’s biological existence is established. Further, I do not intend to use the term Soul or Spirit as a metaphysical or transcendental reality independent of the living organism. I would define the phrase “Whole Medicine” as a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of Man’s Well-Being in relation to health and disease while the man exists as a Created Being.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF MEDICINE – THE CONCEPT OF WHOLE MEDICINE:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: If man is viewed as a "WHOLE" Organism, the organism is derived by the growth, multiplication, and development of this "Whole Cell", the fertilized Ovum. I am advocating a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of man's well-being in relation to health and disease. Such as study must include the concept of this "WHOLE CELL" which has all the attributes that can be observed in man.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE SPIRITUAL BASIS FOR HEALTH:

If the term Soul or Spirit describes the vital, animating principle that governs and operates the existence of the human organism, its nature and functions can be derived from studying the structure and functions of the Red Blood Cell or Erythrocyte which simply exists to integrate and to harmonize the functions of trillions of individual cells, tissues, and the organ systems that constitute the Whole Person who exists as an Individual with Individuality. Health is that condition of the body in which the physiological elements are in balance and in which the various parts function harmoniously with one another. Health represents harmony or good order, or equilibrium in the body. I describe Spirituality as the operating Principle that generates this functional unity, good order, and equilibrium among the cells, tissues, organs, and the organ systems that comprise the human organism and the human Individual who exists because of these functions experiences Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility in his living condition.

The Theory of Medicine will determine the nature of The Art of Medicine that is practiced to establish the Physician – Patient Relationship. If The Art of Medicine is based upon Spirituality Science, the Physician – Patient Relationship will have a Spiritual basis. I would ask my readers to give attention to the problems of modern medical practice and we need a Medical Theory that would have a bearing on the following three aspects of The Art of Medicine:

1. Is Health is better served by the General Practitioner treating the Whole Man or by a Specialist treating a functionally differentiated Special Organ or Organ System?

2. What should be the nature of the Physician-Patient relationship? Is there a therapeutic factor in the relationship that underlines the effectiveness of the Physician’s skills in all other respects?

3. What is the interaction between mind and body in the origin and in the cure of disease?

How to Have A Super Strong Immune System

It can be said that everyone needs about forty different nutrients each day to stay healthy. This is scientific fact.

What can’t be said is that we all need the same amount of these nutrients, and we all differ greatly in our ability to absorb them due to genetic background, current health problems, etc. This needs to be assessed on an individual basis, taking account of one’s personal biochemistry. What most people do not realise is how difficult it is to obtain these vitally important factors, which amplify our immune systems in a positive manner, from foodstuffs we consume on a daily basis.

Most of our food shopping, if not all, is purchased in supermarkets where we are at the mercy of the food industry. The practices modern farming employs, methods used for storing, processing and cooking foods and the formulations used for convenience packaged and canned food are seriously to blame for foodstuff’s which are both deficient and produce out-of-balance distorted nutrients; these are heavily contaminated with additives and toxins which further compromise the immune system.

So, in view of this, what measures can we take to ensure our on-going health in these conditions? By far the best idea is to look to strengthening our immune system so that we are better protected from toxins in our food and the many and varied environmental toxins affecting everybody detrimentally every day of our lives.

To strengthen our immune system, we must first and foremost stop, or drastically reduce, our consumption of foods which add to our already over-burdened system and then attempt to clear toxins which are already present. A two-pronged attack one might say. In these circumstances, the foods we should be choosing should be very nutrient-dense, minimising both exogenous and endogenous toxins, encourage good absorption and toxin elimination from the tissues. This in turn will facilitate toxin removal from the body via the organs of excretion, particularly the out-of-balance nutrients which the body holds in excess.

Extra nutrients necessary to reverse deficiencies and to facilitate toxin removal should be based on individual idiosyncrasies and defined via a nutritionally qualified practitioner as self-diagnosis can be difficult and ineffective.

Firstly the enemies of the immune system, some of which are smoke (tobacco and other – incinerators, chimneys, etc.), stress, pollution (busy roads, industry, etc.), radiation, pesticides, carcinogenic chemicals (domestic and industrial), drugs (legal and illegal, medical, etc. – these require medical supervision for reduction or elimination – do not try it alone), food additives (especially colours and flavours), incorrect balance of food (too much sugar, salt or fat), accidents, obesity or starvation, using dangerous forms of weight reduction, inappropriate exercise, genetic defects, infection (from bacteria, viruses, worms, etc.), negative attitudes to life – unhappiness, etc.

Some reasons for boosting your immune system, by way of eating and drinking habits are:-

  1. How fast you age is determined by your immune system.
  2. Your immune system fights off the viruses, bacteria, etc, which try to attack you, from the common but irritating ones like the cold, flu and thrush to serious problems such as Legionaire’s disease and Aids.
  3. The immune system has the power to destroy cancerous cells, as they develop.
  4. Every day your immune system clears the body’s waste disposal system, ridding dead cells, toxic chemicals, dead bacteria, etc.
  5. Radiation and chemical pollutant effects are minimised by the immune system when working effectively.
  6. Allergies and auto-immune problems, like arthritis are caused by a poorly functioning immune system.
  7. A struggling immune system predisposes you to being ill more often, for longer periods of time and for more days of your life.
  8. With a strong immune system you are virtually invincible and should be able to lead a long, vigorous and healthy life.

A great priority is the ingestion of pure water. It does depend on a person’s bodyweight, exercise expenditure and the type of food one eats, but, as a generality, four pints of water should be consumed over and above any other liquid intake on a daily basis. This is to be still, uncontaminated with stimulants, sugars, flavourings or heavy minerals, such as in some bottled waters. Taking at least this amount gives man health benefits, but in the area I am discussing in this article, it will greatly assist in cleansing the cells and removing toxins.

On the subject of fluids, remove, or drastically restrict stimulant-containing beverages such as coffee, tea, colas, cordials, fruit drinks and spring waters. These are all diuretics and cause the body to lose more water than is being replaced, putting most organs, especially the adrenal system, under stress. The serious effects upon which will, at the very least, manifest in episodes of blood sugar imbalances, hypoglycaemia, and, if carried on for long periods of time, can eventually result in adult-onset diabetes. Furthermore, ingestion of caffeine from coffee, tea colas and lots of pharmaceutical preparations (and chocolate!) will, in sensitive people, produce digestive and nervous upsets, made worse by eating processed foods. Everyone’s mineral absorption is affected negatively by caffeine ingestion; calcium and magnesium are greatly affected, iron compromised and other necessary nutrients depleted. Drink more water!

Alcohol, although not a stimulant to the same degree, (more than a tiny amount has depressive effects throughout the nervous system), is a source of toxins and unnecessary calories. One glass of organically-produced, preferably red, wine, three times per week is now considered to improve the blood circulation, hence having beneficial actions upon the heart, due to its anti-oxidant properties. For women who have kicked the caffeine habit, and are not sensitive to it, could indulge in the addition of a 50gm bar of organically-produced 70% cocoa-mass dark chocolate with their glass of wine – combining the synergistic effects of both. A maximum of three a week though! A great way to improve your iron/magnesium status and counteract the often quoted……… healthy food is boring!

To be optimally fit, healthy, with unlimited energy and with a strong immune system, it is necessary to follow certain nutritional criteria. I list general ones below:-

Eat fresh, whole foods. Whenever possible eschew processed and packaged foods, things that have been added to, refined, enriched or in some way interfered with, such as most processed baked goods, commercial peanut butter, candy, ‘cheese’ foods, crisps and corn chips, canned sauces.

Especially abstain from hydrogenated products, such as margarines. Anything hydrogenated, or partly so, avoid like the plague. These will seriously upset the way your body handles its essential fatty acids, culminating in impaired mineral placement and usage.

Products containing preservatives, additives, coloring agents, texturisers and flavourings should be avoided. Stop using pasteurised, homogenised, fortified, vitamin- added milk and its products. Most of the problems with dairy products have to do with the abysmal conditions in which the cows are kept and fed on dry foods with little nutritive value, rather than fresh nutritious grass. Genetically engineered BST and other hormones are routinely given to boost milk production. Calcium, although high in milk, is poorly absorbed from this source, since it is improperly balanced with magnesium and recent research suggest that magnesium is the mineral of choice, along with other co-factors, to prevent osteoporosis – only prevalent in milk-consuming nations.

Eat a wide variety of foods. This way there is less likelihood of your reacting to foods to which you may be slightly sensitive.

Sort out any food sensitivities with professional help. Have someone test you at least for wheat, corn, soy, dairy and orange – and if you have any sort of arthritis, prepare to be considered sensitive to the nightshade family, comprising potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, etc.

Consume a diet high in essential fatty acids – absolutely vital to your immune system.

Fresh only (not canned) mackerel, herring, salmon, etc. should contain some – although these do not come without the ever-present threat of pollution. Consider linseed oils, walnut oils, all the oily seeds – but never heat in any way – and buy organic, cold-pressed and unrefined only. It is important not to just consume essential fatty acids, but to have the balance correct between Omega 3’s (fish/linseed) and Omega 6’s (evening primrose, blackcurrant seed oil, sesame, etc.) Seek professional help.

Cut down, or better out, sugar and refined carbohydrates. White and brown sugar, honey, glucose and fake sugars like aspartame and sorbitol, plus all commercially prepared biscuits, cakes, jams, ice-cream, soft drinks and other sweet-tasting processed foods. Not only do these rot your teeth, but they also adversely disturb metabolism of essential fatty acids, and therefore your hormone profile, cause massive magnesium losses and worsens copper deficiences. Refined carbohydrates include anything made with white flour or white rice.

Most of all, listen to your body, it is well-equipped with an efficient immune system, which is able to resist disease and heal injury if we give it what it needs to do so.

True wealth is what we are, not what we have, and we each have control over the type of person we become. Good luck in your endeavours to self-strengthen. http://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/how-to-boost-your-immune-system

The ability of an organism to resist a specific infection or toxin by the action of antibodies or sensitized white blood cells is what creates our ‘immunity.’ Our immune systems take a beating trying to fight against natural and industrial waste and poor-quality food and water that causes illness. T-cells, made by the immune system, are the foremost soldiers of our immune system, and our gut flora is like the headquarters sending out ‘troops’ to keep the home front protected. There are ways to have ‘super’ immunity; however, if we look into the phenomenon of the immune system more closely.

As the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases states:

“Unlike B cells, T cells do not recognize free-floating antigens. Rather, their surfaces contain specialized antibody-like receptors that see fragments of antigens on the surfaces of infected or cancerous cells. Helper T cells, or Th cells, coordinate immune responses by communicating with other cells. Some stimulate nearby B cells to produce antibodies, others call in microbe-gobbling cells called phagocytes, and still others activate other T cells.”

Free radicals can signal T cells to get busy getting rid of inflammation, another big cause of disease, but they can be over-zealous in doing so, especially in cases of chronic inflammation.

If the immune system becomes overly strained, it starts to attack itself instead of foreign invaders. It can literally become its own worst enemy. This is often how auto-immune diseases begin. B-cells can’t communicate properly with T cells any longer. The goods news is that we can help the immune system do its job, without becoming over-active simply by changing our diet, and altering a few lifestyle habits.

Here are 7 ways to help create a super-healthy immune system:

7 Tips for Super Immunity

  • 1. Food is medicine. You can practically double your immune system’s ability to fight disease with the way you eat – Try eating more leafy greens, fruits and vegetables. Organic fruits and vegetables are choke-full of important immune-boosting antioxidants. Dr. Joel Fuhrman believes you can stay healthy forever, just by changing your nutrition.
  • He believes that you should eat only foods that are high in nutrition. He includes onions, beans, and lots of veggies and fruits. He suggests you should base your meals on phytonutrient-rich foods.Without carotenoids and leafy greens that help boost gut flora, your immune system becomes exhausted.Fuhrman states: “The quality of a diet can be judged base on three simple criteria. Levels of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals) per calorie. Amounts of macronutrients (fat, carbohydrate, protein) to meet individual needs, without excessive calories that may lead to weight gain or health compromise.Avoidance of potentially toxic substances (such as trans fats) and limited amounts of other potentially harmful substances (such as sodium).”
  • 2. Eating foods high on the ORAC chart also helps to boost immunity – These are foods that fight free radicals in the body, one of the main reasons disease develops and the body turns acid instead of maintaining its alkaline balance. Free radicals are an uncharged molecule that can wreck havoc on the body. They congest our cells and cause us to age faster and be more prone to disease. High ORAC foods include many herbs, like sumac, cloves, and oregano have high ORAC values. So do bran, sorghum, cinnamon, turmeric, Szechuan pepper, and vanilla beans.
  • 3. Stop eating fast-food – Slow-absorbing food is better for your immune system. When you eat ‘fast’ food devoid of nutrients, it makes your digestive system work extra hard to digest something that gives your body no benefit. Many slow-absorbing foods have both fiber and protein, or one or the other, along with important nutrients which also keep your glucose levels from spiking. There is a great documentary, Fast Food Nation, that explains why fast-food makes us sick, tired, and fat.
  • 4. Support healthy gut flora – Eating refined sugar erodes gut flora, while eating fermented foods like Kim Chi or drinking Kombucha can help create healthy gut flora. Dark chocolate has also been shown to provide ‘food’ for healthy gut bacteria. Leafy greens help to create healthy gut flora too. Obviously, taking a probiotic supplement can help as well, since this replaces ‘bad’ bacteria with ‘good’ bacteria, making it harder for the ‘bad guys’ to hang around in your intestinal tract.
  • 5. Get More Sleep – Your body can’t fight free radicals and restore itself if it barely has enough energy to carry out functions like pumping your heart or making sure you breathe. Dr. Fikrig and his colleagues at the Yale School of Medicine has found that our circadian rhythms (sleep and wake cycles) actually govern our immunity. Disturbed sleep patterns means compromised immunity. Make sure when you sleep, you stay asleep, soundly for 7-9 hours nightly. Sleeping even removes toxic waste form the brain!
  • 6. Eat more mushrooms, onions and seeds – Aside from eating your fruit and vegetables, mushrooms, onions, and seeds all have their own immune-boosting produce spores and then grow from the hypha of fungi concealed in soil or wood. They are proverbial for rapid growth. They also help to break down things, both in the forest, and in our bodies that shouldn’t be there.
  • This is why many mushrooms are hailed as super-foods and life-enhancers in Chinese medicine. Shiitake, Reishi, and Maitake are excellent.Onions are anti-microbial, anti-viral, and immune boosting wonders, and seeds are like miniature plants, packed with a storehouse of all the nutrients they will need to grow big and strong, so they do the same for you. Sprouted seeds are even better. For example, sprouted broccoli seeds have 50 times the cancer-fighting ability as eating the broccoli plant itself.
  • 7. Take a Daily Walk – Exercise is one of the most important ways to promote a good immune response in the body. You don’t need to over-do it. Intense workouts can actually cause more stress on the body and depress the immune system. Especially if you are already under the weather, keep it light. For the best immune boosting benefits, make walking, running, swimming, jump-roping, or other sports, a daily activity.
  • 8. Use herbs and supplements instead of vaccines and pharmaceuticals – There are literally hundreds of herbs that help boost the immune system and fight off disease. These include things like moringa, olive leaf, astragalus, cloves, oregano, and more.
  • Kathy Abascale lists 30 herbs in her book Herbs & Influenza: How Herbs Used in the 1918 Flu Pandemic Can Be Effective Today that can naturally lessen flu symptoms, including herbs that treat Swine Flu.
  • Conversely, vaccines and pharmaceuticals (especially antibiotics) can dampen your natural immune response, and kill healthy gut flora that are your ‘second brain’ when it comes to fighting disease.

Turning Tumor Into Scar Tissue

Image result for trust is a golden pathway to heaven

My mom is one of the strongest people that I know. She’s been through hell and back and it’s still kicking ass. She’s had breast cancer twice, had to have one of her breasts removed, has had 3 heart surgerys, and is still fighting heart problems today. I love you so much mom, even though we fight alot doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop caring. This is my mom’s story of survival ~Brooklyn Imm ~
.
Here is my cancer story in a nutshell lol I was diagnosed in May 2012 with stage 2 IDC, Triple Negative breast cancer. I had the genetic testing being my mom is the only other woman in the family to ever had it before me, it turned out it wasn’t genetic. So in July, I had a masectomy that turned into a full radical masectomy meaning they scrapped me down to my ribs and took all 40 lymph nodes on that side even tho only the main one was cancerous.

I had a wound vac on for about a month then i had chemo, cytoxin and taxatere for 4 months finishing in Dec 2012. 14 months later it returned in my hilar lymph node in the small “v” shape between my upper and lower lobe of the right lung but outside it. So another biopsy and chemo again, this time taxol, this was before i know about juicing and alternative methods. So this was May 2014 had chemo for 2 months and was gone.

May 2016 so almost 2 years later it returned but this time in my brain!! 2 tumors were found on my left side, i was falling, headaches, driving over curbs on the right side of my car so i went to my GP and said i need a scan something is wrong!! Got the call that afternoon about the tumors. 2 days later I was at Regions hospital getting fitted for a face mask for targeted radiation. I had 3 one hour session the first week of June. Thats when i get serious about juicing and taking supplements.

In August they did a MRI and found the back tumor which was originally 2×2 cm was almost gone and the front tumor which was 3×2 cm was down to half its size!! I had another scan Nov 9th and both are practically gone!! They told me I lost 65 lbs since last June …. so a total of 165 since original diagnosis.

🙄😩MY Solution: 🤔😳😕???

I juice carrots, celery, a whole apple, ginger, turmeric and black pepper daily, YUCK but i force myself to drink it. I take alot of vitamin C, potassium, COQ 10, vitamin D all in high doses. And each week I juice a whole watermelon as i was left having kidney stones from all the chemo and even had surgery once to remove one that was 3/4 the size of my kidney. Was told this year i have another smaller one and since the watermelon juice, my GFR is in normal range and so is my creatin.

This in large part is due to talking to Ken and learning about the benefits of juicing and supplements. So they told me 2 days ago I am beating cancer for the 3rd time in 4 years!! Also last winter i had 3 heart surgeries to place 4 stents in my heart but just found out my aortic valve is mildly not working correctly so i hope they repair it soon (through the groin again) and not wait to replace it as that would mean open heart surgery.

UPDATE ON MRI, BOTH TUMORS ARE NEAR GONE, JUST SCAR TISSUE NO NEW ONES IN BRAIN OR BODY HERE ARE PICS FROM SCAN IN NOV 16, AND FEB 10TH 17, ONE ON THE LEFT IS LAST WEEK THE RIGHT SIDE IS NOVEMBERS!!

No automatic alt text available.
So I know if I CAN DO IT, SO CAN YOU!!!! Nothing is impossible and you have to BELIEVE!!! I do this for my 3 younger children and my oldest daughter who are an inspiration to me daily. Love Lisa Burns!!!

Indeed from my research, watermelon has a great amount of glutathione. Glutathione can protect us from cancer. It is an antioxidant. Other fruits that also have glutathione and are rich in antioxidants are berries, oranges, pomegranate, apricots, prunes, avocado, grapefruit, strawberries and peaches. Cinnamon, asparagus, legumes, nuts, spinach and bell peppers can also make our skin healthier.

We often hear glutathione when we talk about skin lightening products. What we don’t know is we can eat cystine-rich food because our body uses cystine and converts it to glutathione. Cystine-rich food includes dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and chicken breast. With cystine-rich food and foods rich in selenium, the production of glutathione in our body is increased. Tuna, beef, chicken, turkey, eggs, cheese, and Brazil nuts are good source of selenium. Brazil nuts are especially rich in selenium, which helps increase the body’s production of glutathione. Other foods rich in selenium include tuna, beef, walnuts, eggs, cottage cheese, and turkey.

To make our skin more beautiful, we can eat food with B-complex. Watermelons also contain Alkaline Water which is all the rage these days. Alkaline water removes toxins and acidity from the body. Some say it also reduces food cravings that leads to weight loss.

Aside from glutathione and alkaline water, watermelon is also rich in beta carotene, potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin B. Personally, I am surpised at how much we can get from watermelons as I reckon it is only made up of water. From now on, next to bananas – let’s add watermelons in our fruits baskets!

What is CoQ10?

CoQ10 is also known as co-enzyme Q10, Q10, vitamin Q10, ubiquinone and ubidecarenone. It is a compound that is naturally produced by the body. The “Q10” simply refers to the group of chemicals that make up the co-enzyme.

CoQ10 is used by the body’s cells to produce the energy they need to grow and stay healthy. CoQ10 also consists of an antioxidant property that protects the cells from harmful free radicals.

Free radicals can cause damage to the DNA of a cell which is often linked to the cause of cancer. CoQ10, protects the body is from the harmful effects of free radicals; hence, reducing one’s risk of developing cancer.

CoQ10 is found in all of the body’s tissues but is more concentrated in the heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas and lungs. CoQ10 is also found in: anchovies, broccoli, beef, salmon, sardines, mackerel, soy oil and peanuts.

As a person gets older, the amount of CoQ10 tends to decrease due to a decline in production levels or a deficiency of vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 can be obtained from chickpeas, avocado, roast beef, fish, chicken breast, tomato and sunflower seeds.

CoQ10 was discovered in 1957, but researchers didn’t discover its benefits as an anti-cancer agent until 1961. Since, numerous studies have been conducted to determine CoQ10’s role against cancer.

How does CoQ10 work against cancer?

During its first discovery in the 1960s, it was ascertained that patients suffering from myeloma, lymphoma and other types of cancer – such as: head and neck, breast, lung, pancreas, colon, kidney and prostate – had lower levels of CoQ10 in their blood. Studies suggest that CoQ10 can be used to help boost the immune system. As a result, CoQ10 became one of several adjuvant therapies for cancer. An adjuvant therapy is an auxillary treatment given after the primary treatment to augment the patient’s healing process.1 Since CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant, it may be able to prevent the growth of cancer cells single-handedly.

There were some animal and laboratory studies conducted to test the effectiveness of CoQ10. Most of these laboratory studies aimed to identify the chemical structure and physiology of CoQ10 in the body. Based on animal studies, CoQ10 dramatically improved the immune system; hence, enabling the body to fight certain types of infection, as well as cancer. Another animal study reveled that CoQ10 effectively protect the heart muscle from cell damage caused by the anticancer drug called doxorubicin. Additional animal and laboratory studies determined that analogs of CoQ10 inhibited the growth of tumor cells. 2

Consequently, researchers investigated the effect of CoQ10 in human cancer patients. CoQ10 was tested as a protective agent among cancer patients who were taking the anticancer drug, doxorubicin. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline drug which is said to induce cardiac toxicity by interfering with the energy-generating biochemical reactions of the heart muscle’s mitochondria. The mitochondrion are considered to be the cell’s powerhouse, giving energy to the entire body system. Results showed that cardiac toxicity was lessened with CoQ10 supplementation.

Based on a study in Denmark, 32 women afflicted with breast cancer were given a nutritional supplement program consisting of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and CoQ10 along with their primary treatment. Results of the study showed that the participants used fewer painkillers in their treatment and they didn’t lose weight. It was also reported that there were six patients who showed signs of tumor regression and all participants survived at least two years after their treatment. However, this study was not well-designed in that it didn’t have a comparison group. Therefore, it is not clearly understood whether the cause of tumor regression was as a result of the implementation of CoQ10. 3

Another study was performed in Canada to ascertain the effects of a combination of supplements, including CoQ10, among 90 women with breast cancer. The women in this study were given high doses of vitamins, minerals, and CoQ10 along with their standard treatment. When their condition was compared with 180 women who were not taking the high doses of combination supplements there was no significant statistical evidence pointing to the singular effectiveness of CoQ10 as an anti-cancer agent. 3 Nevertheless, the above human studies did suggest that CoQ10 plays an important role against cancer when combined with other supplements.

Vitamin C Tricks Cancer Tumors into Killing Themselves

Lead author Dr. Lewis Cantley and his team learned that amounts of vitamin C equivalent to what you might find in about 300 oranges is enough to impair the growth of both KRAS and BRAF gene-mutated colorectal tumors. This army of antioxidants literally enters the malignant cells, prompting an attack response marked by so much oxidative stress that the cells burn out and die.

And they do this in a rather interesting way that was previously inexplicable by science. Rather than attack cancer cells directly, vitamin C compounds appear to convert into another oxidized substance known as dehydroascorbic acid, or DHA. The DHA tricks cancer cells into accepting it for entry. Only once it gains access, this DHA is converted back into ascorbic acid (a type of vitamin C), causing cancer cells to essentially commit suicide.

“The current study reveals that DHA acts as a Trojan horse,” reports Medical News Today. “Once inside, natural antioxidants in the cancer cell attempt to convert the DHA back to ascorbic acid; in the process, these antioxidants are depleted, and the cell dies from oxidative stress.”

Linus Pauling was Right: Intravenous Vitamin C Cancer Therapy is the Way to Go

This is great news for cancer patients, as it presents potential new options for longevity and survival that conventional medicine simply can’t offer. But there’s just one problem… the amounts of vitamin C needed to obtain these amazing therapeutic benefits can’t be obtained from basic oral consumption of vitamin C. This is because the human body is only capable of assimilating so much of this nutrient at one time into the bloodstream.

This is where the groundbreaking work of the late Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling, a biochemist from Oregon State University, comes full circle. Pauling was among the first within the scientific disciplines to flesh out vitamin C’s many potential uses in modern medicine. This included its effectiveness as an intravenous treatment for cancer and various other major health conditions.

As it turns out, intravenous administration of vitamin C delivers far more of this important nutrient into the bloodstream than oral consumption, bombarding affected tissues and cells with disease-eradicating doses of this powerful, natural medicine. Pauling and his colleagues first pioneered this technique by administering it to more than 1,000 cancer patients, with incredible success.

Despite facing a constant tide of ridicule and slander from his less progressive colleagues, Pauling forged ahead. They laid the groundwork for what is now considered by many forward thinkers in the medical profession to be the gold standard for high-dose vitamin C therapeutics as a viable treatment for chronic and degenerative disease.

“[Ewan Cameron] and Pauling found that vitamin C helped cancer patients live about four times longer than cancer patients not given vitamin C,” writes Dr. Ronald Hoffman of the Hoffman Center in New York City, a clinic that utilizes high-dose, intravenous vitamin C drips as part of its progressive cancer treatment protocols.

How Intravenous Vitamin C Cancer Therapy Works

This isn’t to say that taking vitamin C orally is of no beneficial effect. To the contrary, high-dose oral intake of vitamin C at tapered doses (Dr. Hoffman says blood levels “max out” at about 500 milligrams (mg) doses) can help maximize your body’s immune system and aid in tissue repair. But when it comes to effectively treating cancer, intravenous administration is the only way to go.

Bypassing the body’s digestive buffers allows intravenous vitamin C to spur the production of hydrogen peroxide deep within bodily tissues. And with the help of disease-fighting white blood cells, this “peroxide-mediated” vitamin C, as Dr. Hoffman puts it, performs unique and key functions in the targeting and eradication of cancer cells wherever they might be lurking in the body.

Even the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is onboard with the science behind IV vitamin C therapy. It admits, based on laboratory studies, that vitamin C is capable of helping to slow the growth of cancer cells in the prostate, pancreas, liver, and colon. Both animal and human studies have also shown that IV vitamin C therapy can help block tumor growth and improve patient quality of life.

“IV vitamin C, when administered by a trained, experienced physician, is safe and well-tolerated, even at doses as high as 100,000 mg (100 grams) per day,” notes Dr. Hoffman. “Proper blood tests must be done to ensure that it is well-tolerated, and the patient must be monitored. Doses must be gradually adjusted upward.”

My advice if you currently don’t have cancer is to up your oral intake of vitamin C for prevention purposes. Citrus fruits are great for this, but “superfoods” like camu camu berry and acerola cherry are even better. Camu camu is said to have some of the highest natural, food-based levels of vitamin C − upwards of 2 grams of vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit!

If you or someone you love does have cancer, you may wish to investigate the merits of high-dose, IV vitamin C therapy as a possible cancer treatment option.

Vitamin D, a steroid hormone that influences virtually every cell in your body, is easily one of nature’s most potent cancer fighters. Receptors that respond to vitamin D have been found in nearly every type of human cell, from your bones to your brain.

Your organs can convert the vitamin D in your bloodstream into calcitriol, which is the hormonal or activated version of vitamin D. Your organs then use it to repair damage, including that from cancer cells.

Vitamin D is actually able to enter cancer cells and trigger apoptosis or cancer cell death. When JoEllen Welsh, a researcher with the State University of New York at Albany, injected a potent form of vitamin D into human breast cancer cells, half of them shriveled up and died within days!

The vitamin D worked as well at killing cancer cells as the toxic breast cancer drug Tamoxifen, without any of the detrimental side effects and at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Many cancer treatments cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for a course of therapies and most are well in the five-figure cost range. You can actually get perfect vitamin D levels for free if you had access to sunshine in the sub tropics year round, but even if you purchased oral supplements, a year’s worth of treatment would be well under $100.

In mice, too, cancer tumors shrank by more than 50 percent, and some altogether disappeared, when vitamin D was injected.

These findings add to the growing knowledge that vitamin D is a key player in cancer treatment and prevention. If you want to see for yourself, you can browse through over 800 references showing vitamin D’s effectiveness for cancer here.

Cancer’s Silver Bullet?

Intake of vitamin D3 and calcium could potentially prevent 58,000 new cases of breast cancer and 49,000 new cases of colorectal cancer annually in the United States and Canada, according to a complex computer prediction model.

This model also predicted that 75 percent of deaths from these cancers could be prevented with adequate intake of vitamin D3 and calcium.

Theories linking vitamin D to certain cancers have been tested and confirmed in more than 200 epidemiological studies, and understanding of its physiological basis stems from more than 2,500 laboratory studies, according to epidemiologist Cedric Garland, DrPH, professor of family and preventive medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Garland is widely regarded as the leading epidemiologist on vitamin D and its relation to health. He led one of the latest studies on vitamin D for cancer prevention and proposed a new model of cancer development — dubbed DINOMIT– that is centered on a loss of cancer cells’ ability to stick together.

The model is a departure from the older model of cancer development, which centers on genetic mutations as the earliest driving forces behind cancer. According to Dr. Garland:

“The first event in cancer is loss of communication among cells due to, among other things, low vitamin D and calcium levels. In this new model, we propose that this loss may play a key role in cancer by disrupting the communication between cells that is essential to healthy cell turnover, allowing more aggressive cancer cells to take over.”

Vitamin D May Help Prevent 2 Million Cancer Deaths a Year!

Earlier studies have shown that optimizing your vitamin D levels could help you to prevent at least 16 different types of cancer including pancreatic, lung, ovarian, prostate, and skin cancers. But now we’re starting to see more evidence that the type of cancer in question may not be all that important, because vitamin D appears to play a key role in the development of ALL types of cancer!

Vitamin D’s protective effect against cancer works in multiple ways, including:

• Increasing the self-destruction of mutated cells (which, if allowed to replicate, could lead to cancer)

• Reducing the spread and reproduction of cancer cells

• Causing cells to become differentiated (cancer cells often lack differentiation)

• Reducing the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, which is a step in the transition of dormant tumors turning cancerous

A study by Dr. William Grant, Ph.D., internationally recognized research scientist and vitamin D expert, found that about 30 percent of cancer deaths — which amounts to 2 million worldwide and 200,000 in the United States — could be prevented each year with higher levels of vitamin D!

How to Use Vitamin D to Lower Your Cancer Risk

Making sure that your vitamin D levels are optimized is one of the simplest, yet most profound, things you can do to protect your health. It will likely be many decades before health policy catches up to what the evidence has already revealed, and widespread recommendations for increased sunlight exposure and vitamin D levels become the norm.

But you don’t have to wait, as you can optimize your levels right now.

The ideal way to optimize your vitamin D level is by exposing your skin to appropriate amounts of sunlight on large areas of your skin. Unfortunately for most of you there simply isn’t enough sun exposure where you live for half of the year or more

However, even when the sun is shining many people are modern-day cavemen and spend the majority of the day inside at work or in your home. Not many of you are regularly out in the sun.

You typically need enough sun exposure to turn your skin the lightest shade of pink. If you have enough skin exposed you will produce about 20,000 units of vitamin D. Exposures any longer than turning your skin the lightest pink will not produce any additional vitamin D and may potentially lead to premature skin aging and increase your risk of skin cancers (so don’t overdo it).

If you struggle with getting enough sun exposure during certain parts of the year, I also advise using a safe tanning bed (one that has the harmful emissions shielded) to have your own body produce vitamin D naturally.

A third option is taking a high-quality vitamin D supplement. You’ll only want to supplement with natural vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which is human vitamin D. Do NOT use the synthetic and highly inferior vitamin D2.

A Reminder Why You Should Not Take Cod Liver Oil to Get Your Vitamin D

A few years ago, I changed my recommendation on sources of vitamin D. I previously I recommended cod liver oil as a dietary supplement to support healthy vitamin D levels. However, based on more recent findings, I have updated my recommendations regarding cod liver oil, as it may not serve you as well as previously believed.

My previous recommendation was based on the fact that cod liver oil contains vitamins D and A in addition to healthy omega-3 fats. These vitamins are essential for most everyone who cannot get regular sun exposure year-round.

But more recent research has discovered that the ratios of these two vitamins may be of paramount importance in order to extract optimal health benefits, and unfortunately, modern cod liver oil does not supply these vitamins in healthy ratios to each other.

A new study in the British Medical Journal found that vitamin A, even in relatively low amounts, appears to thwart vitamin D’s association with reduced rates of cancer, in this case colon cancer.

As reported by the Vitamin D Council, the study shows that the benefits of vitamin D are almost entirely negated in those with the highest vitamin A intake. This is the largest study to date confirming vitamin A can impair vitamin D’s beneficial effects.

So in addition to not getting your vitamin D from cod liver oil, you should typically avoid synthetic vitamin A supplements along with your vitamin D either, as it appears to seriously negate its benefits.

How Much Vitamin D Do You Need?

Based on the most recent research, the current recommendation for dosage via oral supplementation is 35 IU’s of vitamin D per pound of body weight.

So for a child weighing 40 pounds, the recommended average dose would be 1,400 IU’s daily, and for a 170-pound adult, the dose would be nearly 6,000 IU’s.

Vitamin D Dose Recommendations
Age Dosage
Below 5 35 units per pound per day
Age 5 – 10 2500 units
Age 18 – 30 5000 units
Pregnant Women 5000 units
WARNING:
There is no way to know if the above recommendations are correct. The ONLY way to know is to test your blood. You might need 4-5 times the amount recommended above. Ideally your blood level of 25 OH D should be 60ng/ml.

However, it’s important to realize that vitamin D requirements are highly individual, as your vitamin D status is dependent on numerous factors, such as the color of your skin, your location, and how much sunshine you’re exposed to on a regular basis.

So, although these recommendations may put you closer to the ballpark of what most people likely need, it is simply impossible to make a blanket recommendation that will cover everyone’s needs.

The only way to determine the correct dose is to get your blood tested since there are so many variables that influence your vitamin D status. I recommend using Lab Corp in the U.S. Getting the correct test is the first step in this process, as there are TWO vitamin D tests currently being offered: 1,25(OH)D and 25(OH)D. The correct test your doctor needs to order is 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D, which is the better marker of overall D status. This is the marker that is most strongly associated with overall health.

Optimal Vitamin D Levels Explained

The “normal” 25-hydroxyvitamin D lab range is between 20-56 ng/ml. As you can see in the chart below, this conventional range is really a sign of deficiency, and is too broad to be ideal.

In fact, your vitamin D level should not be below 32 ng/ml, and any levels below 20 ng/ml are considered serious deficiency states, increasing your risk of cancer and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, just to name a few.

The OPTIMAL value that you’re looking for is 50-65 ng/ml.

This range applies for everyone: children, adolescents, adults and seniors.

Evaluation of Potassium Values in a Cancer Patient Population

Beverly C. Handy, MD, MS, Yu Shen, PhD, MS

Agents known or believed to be carcinogenic decrease the concentration of potassium and increase the concentration of sodium in the cells. Anti-carcinogenic agents have the opposite effect. In all cases where we have information on an agent’s carcinogenicity or anti-carcinogenicity and on that agent’s effects on cellular potassium and sodium concentrations the above relationships have been found to be true. Dietary carcinogenic agents studied include sodium, cadmium, fat, cholesterol, calories, and alcohol; dietary anticarcinogenic agents include potassium, vitamins A, C, and D, selenium, and fiber.
The effect of calcium intake is less clear as that effect depends on the concentrations on sodium and potassium. Not only dietary agents but also other carcinogenic and anticarcinogenic agents work in the same way. The cancer-causing drug dimethylhydrazine increases sodium and decreases potassium in the cells, whereas, for example, indomethacin, an anticarcinogen, has the opposite effect. In aging potassium leaves the cells, sodium enters them, and the rates of cancer increase. Patients with hyperkalemic diseases (Parkinson, Addison) have reduced cancer rates, and patients with hypokalemic diseases (alcoholism, obesity, stress) have increased cancer rates.

Abstract and Introduction

  • Potassium imbalances are potentially life-threatening, consequently, values found outside of the normal range will typically invoke immediate therapeutic action, and a detailed search for an underlying cause.
  • A wide variety of clinical conditions are associated with aberrant potassium metabolism, and patients with cancer are at particular risk for both those found in the general population, as well as those that are tumor- or treatment-related.
  • It is important to recognize that factitious, or pseudohyperkalemia, an in vitro phenomenon that does not reflect the true status of the patient, is not uncommon in patients with cancer, a consequence of marked leukocytosis or thrombocytosis associated with some malignancies or secondary to therapy.

Disturbances of potassium metabolism, if left untreated, can have potentially life-threatening consequences. Symptoms, which are generally cardiac and neuromuscular in nature, tend to occur as values become increasingly out of the normal range. Clinical conditions associated with such electrolyte imbalances in the general population are common, and include renal failure from various causes, side effects of medications, disturbances of acid-base balance, and endocrine disorders.

Patients with cancer are at risk for electrolyte disturbances from these chronic disorders as well as those that are tumor — or cancer therapy-related. These include tumor lysis syndrome, chemotherapy side effects, and tumors producing ectopic hormone. Given the relatively increased risk, and subsequent close monitoring for electrolyte abnormalities, it is important to recognize that factitious, or pseudohyperkalemia, is not uncommon in this patient population. Failure to recognize this in vitro phenomenon can lead to unnecessary and potentially harmful interventions.

Psuedohyperkalemia can be diagnosed when the serum potassium exceeds that obtained from plasma by more than 0.4 mmol/L. It is typically seen when there is marked leukocytosis (often greater than 100 x 109L-1) or thrombocytosis (frequently greater than 1,000 x 109L-1). Proposed mechanisms include in vitro release from the unusually large mass of platelets or leukocytes during the clotting process and an abnormal fragility of neoplastic leukocytes or platelets.

Because the clotting process is involved, plasma potassium values, which can more closely reflect the true status of the patient, can be within the normal range even when those obtained from serum appear to be lethal.

When it occurs, this effect is roughly proportional to the severity of the thromboctyosis or leukocytosis, and serum results frequently normalize with resolution of the high counts.

As such, it has been reported most frequently in acute and chronic leukemias, and myeloproliferative disorders such as myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera. It has also been reported to occur occasionally as a secondary complication with solid tumors, and less commonly, in benign reactive conditions. Be careful of electrolyte imbalances http://news.cancerconnect.com/electrolyte-imbalance/

Although there is no evidence that vitamin B12 alone reduces the risk of breast cancer, population studies have shown that women who get more folate in their diet have lower risk of breast cancer. Vitamin B12 works with folate in the body, so it may help reduce breast cancer risk. Another preliminary study suggested that postmenopausal women who had the lowest amounts of B12 in their diet had an increased risk for breast cancer.

So what´s the connection with cancer?

A number of research studies covering cancers such as colon, stomach or breast have linked the disease to lowered B-12 levels. (For example – Cho, Sang-Woon; Nutrition Review 57 – ´Women with breast cancer have lowered B-12 levels´).

But the issue is not only that B-12 directly, or through its stimulation of some third party like folic acid, might somehow cause cancer. A second issue is that orthodox and some complementary cancer treatments actually can make matters worse.

For example, it is now becoming clear that extracting the B-12 molecule from our foods is difficult without the help of certain Beneficial Bactteria in the intestine. Low levels of Beneficial Bacteria have been proven in Clinical Trials to reduce vitamin B-12 production and absorption. Unfortunately estimates suggest as many as 70 per cent of the adult UK population already have an imbalance of intestinal flora due to chlorinated water, antibiotics, lack of whole foods in the diet, too much salt and alcohol etc.

However chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery all employ drugs and antibiotics which can worsen the imbalance and further reduce the digestion and absorption of vitamin B-12. In this case the medical mantra of ´just eat 5 helpings of fruit and vegetables per day´, could be rubbish, if you cannot release the goodness. Supplementation in the short term with vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins like folic acid seems essential. To restore assimilation from your foods in the longer term, supplementation with multi-strain probiotics seems equally important. You can read more about Beneficial Bacteria by clicking here.

Sadly, the whole orthiodox treatment programme for cancer in the UK, ignores all the research and clinical trials in this area, resulting in a greatly worsened state of healthy gut bacteria, underproduction of essential vitamins, and increasing levels of toxins (like nitrosamines, heavy metals and oestrogenic products) the good bacteria help chelate and excrete these toxins too).

According to the authors of ESSIAC ESSENTIALS [p. 45], the following reactions may occur when treating cancer that demonstrate how Essiac works:

  1. a) swelling–occurs when metastasised cells gather into the primary tumour.
  2. b) cottage cheese effect–resembling curds and clear liquid, occurs as the cancer breaks up and discharges from either the body orifices or from localised cysts or swellings. A jelly-like substance can also be discharged or coughed up from the lungs.
  3. c) more frequent passing of urine/defecation and other inexplicable discharges–occuring as the body detoxifies. If the symptoms are severe, with related nausea and pain, stop taking the formula for a few days until all the symptoms have subsided. When you start drinking it again, take half an ounce every other day, gradually resuming the original dosage. Remember that all diseases have a life cycle and a rhythm of their own, so follow your own judgement according to what your body is telling you about the dosage it needs.
  4. d) aching ‘on site’ and headaches, linked to the detoxification process, have been noted as sometimes occurring when taking Essiac after surgery. Treat as for (c) and drink more water to flush out toxins from the body.
  5. e) fever or chills–sometimes occurring when the Essiac starts working directly on the cancerous cells.

The Truth about ´Vitamin´ B-17

Separating B-17 Myth From Reality

Amygdalin or laetrile? B-17 as a cancer ´cure´ is one of the most controversial subjects in ´Alternative cancer medicine´. Is there research to support it as an alternative cancer treatment? Is there research to support it as a complementary therapy? Is there research to support B-17 as a cure for cancer? Here we bring you one of the most comprehensive and accurate reviews on the Internet today (Written by Editor, Chris Woollams, M.A. Oxon, Biochemistry).

The controversy was re-opened in October 2014 when researchers (Makarevic et al; PLOSone) showed that natural B-17 (amygdalin) dose-dependently reduced growth and proliferation of cancer cells in vitro (See Cancer Watch – Click Here).

Controversy was furthered in May 2016, when the Food Standards Authority (FSA) in the UK talked about banning the sale of Apricot Kernels. So, a Government that puts a proven class A carcinogen (fluoride) in our water supplies is going to ban a food they don´t even correctly understand – they say, like many ignorants, that 30 of them ´contain cyanide´. Do they understand that for years people have eaten foods like marzipan in cakes. It was made from Apricot Kernels. UK nurses were even told to eat an apricot, then break the nut and eat the pip for health reasons, although I am going back 65 years to when my mother was a nurse.

B-17: Laetrile is not the same as Amygdalin

Firstly, let´s get one thing straight: Beware the articles that talk of eating pips and seeds and call the active ingredient Laetrile. The writers are making a simple, but fundamental error. How many more will they make?

It is important to differentiate the use of natural amygdalin from Apricot Kernels, and Laetrile, which is a concentrated, synthetic drug.

But, when it comes to B-17, confusion exists everywhere and absolute rubbish is often talked, even from supposedly ´top´ websites.

A Survivor Mindset

For Lisa Lobsitz Ravel, she has the ability to recover from hardship with multi times having the ability to bounce back. Once having been given her last rite, twice being in a coma and also experiencing organ failure. The time she worked in hospice was helpful in her life.

I was born sick … pneumonia always … battled asthma my entire childhood … had spinal meningitis, ruptured main artery, blah ~ blah ~ blah before I was 22 … then all hell broke loose and never ended. If you want to talk trials and tribulation of life all the while raising two children one at age 20 and the other at 23.

Then On June 9, 2009, at the age 42, while alone, suffered a debilitating stroke & paralysis requiring 24 hr fulltime care. I had been symptomatic with an erratic heartbeat for quite some time, BUT BECAUSE I was YOUNG, FEMALE & LOOKED HEALTHY.
.
I did not fit the medical community criteria of a person about to have a stroke. My concerns instead were discounted and my worries ignored. It was even suggested I find a less stressful job .. Right up to that fateful day.
.

While in Intensive Care, the Doctors found a defect & profound hole in the wall of the left & upper right chambers that would require open heart surgery to repair. But I wasn’t a candidate until I showed improvement.

That took 4 excruciating long months of enormous difficulty and hard work while battling a weakening heart just to get to a minimum baseline. I had to have enough strength and ability to recover from the post trauma in order to undergo the surgery. But my heart was failing and I was getting weaker by the day, so on October 15, 2009, I underwent Open Heart Surgery to repair the chamber and successfully close the hole. Then once again, started back on that long road towards recovery & another chance at Life.

In 2011, had 6 plates in her neck and 5 in her shoulder… Lisa knows set backs and is always determined to bounce back from any and all. Also in her past Lisa had 3 bouts of e-coli, meningitis and was also hospitalized… for a week in 2007 ….with debilitating Fibromyalgia. And care gave 24/7 for my husband and dad beginning in 2011.

❣Mine is a Happy ending, I am Grateful to have survived .. Far too many do not.

❤ FACT: Heart Disease & Stroke KILL 1 in 3 WOMEN EACH YEAR, yet it is 80% Preventable.

❣ PLEASE INSIST ON BEING TESTED if you ever have any unusual heart symptoms that scare or concern you.

❤ FEBRUARY is National Heart Month Kim Poulsen-Smith

Her mindset: it has been what it has been …. they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. What times like these do …. is makes you more resilient but not tougher. What times like these did for Lisa is made her kinder, more compassionate, giving and forgiving and loving deeper without reservations, while enjoying life to its fullest and the time you do have… more.

The key to survival is acceptance: accepting the fact that you were given that hand dealt you for a reason. That in such a traumatic catastrophic life event, such inspiring Living changing strength can be gained, with such a story so special, and your arduous struggle too regain your health. And the reason I became a pilot is to start a non profit connecting those dying with family members.

Lisa you are blessed, your story is going too help other people! 💗💗

We take all of our experiences and realize they’re meant to be … good bad and indifferent. Could have cave in and died or used the IV to live, strengthen and fly. Also my keys to survival are Giving to others … not accepting a Dx … seeing a life ahead of you requiring and needing your presence 🙂

Lisa being the trooper she is recently became a pilot And the reason I became a pilot is to start a non profit connecting those dying with family members. AS she still enjoys Snow & water skiing. Sports that others may have gave up, however, I know within Lisa there is no quit. You’re a warrior, trailblazer and The world is lucky to have you in it. 👏🏻🎉🍾 Image result for happy valentines day images🎶🍾
