Slaying the Purple Dragon

These risk  factors provide leads  for  further investigations into the genetic and environmental determinants of  various  forms of  SoftTissueSarcomas. Cancer is a genetic disease in which many  factors including diet, smoking, chemicals, sunlight, hereditary factors, and viruses are thought to cause alterations or mutations in our genes. An alteration can result in a change of  the DNA material within a gene or in excessive copies of a gene. When enough mutations accumulate, the normal process  inside the cell go awry, and tumors begin to grow.

The first case  of Leiomyosarcoma  was found in 1994according to a Case Study               by the University of Ontario.  This cancer only accounts for 5%-10% of all soft tissue sarcomas.  Famous people like Padma L. Atluri, a writer for 90210 and Men in Trees,    and Katie Price (Jordan), an English media personality, both suffered from LMS…

they are so deadly to treat with so little known about some of them!!!

It is quite clear that there are certain situations which cause certain damage which can result in Sarcoma’s and the main one I am writing about LeioMyoSarcoma.

Why don’t all the people who CAN get a cancer get it?

It’s chance. It depends upon what the radiation photon, the virus, the antibody, actually attacks. Since most of the causal agents cause DNA damage, the sum of the exposures IS additive.

Much of the damage  comes  from free radicals.  Antioxidants  help  prevent  free radicals.    So one way that people predisposed to cancer DON’T get the cancer, is lots of antioxidants in their foods. This has been illustrated with the epidemiological investigation of green tea drinkers and cancer incidence rates.

For exposure to be significant, it is usually noticeable. The one person I know who was exposed to that wood preservative, painted her deck and practically bathed in it. People who have had radiation therapy, or significant exposure to radiation know about it, usually. Cyclosphosphamide does not grow freely under trees.

Autoimmune disease,  especially thyroid,  seems  to  predispose  to  malignancy. Autoimmune disease relapses can be stress related. If there is less stress, there will be fewer autoimmune active spells, and fewer antibodies, and less chance of getting p53   DNA damage. Autoimmune disease itself probably develops from a combination of genetric susceptibility and possibly a viral trigger.

About smoking– there was one study done that showed DNA repair took longer in cells    of people who smoke.

In the words of a friend, it’s mostly a crapshoot. BUT it is not completely a crapshoot. There are predisposing factors, and there are things you can do to counteract those factors…

Among the environmental exposures associated with STS are:
Some cases of severe immunodeficiency [AIDS, transplant patients] show Epstein-Barr virus is sometimes implicated in LMS.
Sarcomas, including LMS, are associated with autoimmune thyroid disease, and associated with other autoimmune illnesses.
In some cases the genetic predisposition may have interacted with environmental determinants to produce particular tumors.

“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back.”
–John O’DonohueThe soul of Patricia Moreira-Cali has been stirred into full life by a purple dragon known as leiomyosarcoma. It is a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and for women it usually starts in the uterus…. PATRICIA has also embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery since April 23, 2013. It hasn’t always been an easy road, as the chemotherapy has let to some brutal side-effects on her body, but she tries her best not to give in to the Purple Dragon…
On April 23, 2013, Patricia’s uterine “fibroids” were found to be cancerous, and she     began a perilous journey that continues today. She so bravely talks about her first year after the diagnosis in her book, “My Journey with the Purple Dragon.” She goes into vulnerable detail about her emotional experiences and her search for a cure.
“Friends and family are not with you at all times of the day and night,” she wrote. “You are alone when the tears seem endless, when the sorrow is so painful that it’s hard to breathe, when the grief cuts through your core, when you long for the freedom to feel healthy, and when you are introduced to death, and somehow you befriend it.”She experiments with a variety of complementary treatments while doing conventional chemotherapy. “I have no doubt that the treatment of cancer, and many other chronic diseases, requires a holistic approach,” she wrote. Among her choices were to visit John of God in Brazil, and she describes her experiences there.
Gradually, the reader witnesses Patricia’s inner transformation. “A new me is emerging, growing and flourishing, somehow,” she writes. When she reaches the end of her first year of treatment, she finds an enviable place of serenity. “I have detached from much illusion, and I feel mostly at peace within.”
The book is self-published and could benefit from professional editing, yet overall it is a moving story of courage and a roadmap for others on the journey with cancer.
Profits from Patricia’s book sales go to leiomyosarcoma research and to support a poor child with cancer through her non-profit Helping Children Heal (HCH). Her book can     be ordered at http://www.purpledragonjourney.com/order-now/

…AS the old year became 2016.  I was ask to explain what happen to Rosa Parkin. HOW could one member of our facebook goup be doing so well… only to have it all turn out so horribly wrong for her the 1st Week of September.  MY first thought  would be blame the chemotherapy see mixed with the natural or cannabis oil. With the second thought being maybe the travel strain  and pressure she faced toward the end  or  the Oregon Trip from the U.K.  She also took to find the quality and affordable cannabi…s oil she seeked.  With mY third thought being:  Leiomyosarcoma… being an aggressive type of cancer ~ maybe she should have tried  the lesser toxic known cancer treatment  that we are now starting   to realize.  That might be a better bet  than this guessing game  we often find us in trying    to figureout the answers in the groups.

What I do know about Rosa is this: when she was DX with LMS she was given only two years to survive  and in the end it was two years five days.  However,  when she came into our group October 2014. She had a 8cm tumor in her uterus preventing her from walking. With renewed hope and awareness…. in only a few days  she was out of her bed.  Learning all about newer options and meeting new friends in the cancer groups on Facebook with a positive outlook on her outcome.

Rosa tried many things and in the end was pain free and had peace within herself. Being guided to heaven with the magical oil by her side.  Looking back  I so realize things happen for a reason and Rosa was very fortunate meeting the people from the groups she found on Facebook and couldn’t Thank Enough…  R.i.P.  Rosa  Parkin R.i.P. AGAIN!!!

Rosa Parkin

Since that September date when I received the devastating news. I have continued on my search for the answer that would finally slay the purple dragon. Learning through a relapse and recovery of a Former Facebook Friend from Thailand that Immunotherapy helped her twice to become cancer free of the dreadful dragon.  Learning when it comes to aggressive cancer one best be keeping all options open.

Within the conventional realm:  Two leading sarcoma specialist treating sarcomas are Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. John Healey whom talks about the specialized care people with sarcoma — cancer of the bone or muscle — receive  at  Memorial Sloan-Kettering in NYC.   Dr.  Healey is generally regarded as one of the best in the world treating sarcoma’s!!!!

Also Dr. Pasquale Benedetto is a board-certified, fellowship-trained professor at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive cancer Center. He received his medical doctorate at the Weill Medical College of Cornell university in New York City, New York. David Octavio Gandell,  a 2 time Cancer Survivor believed that God would heal him and that Dr. Pasquale W. Benedetto, M.D, was God’s instrument.  Dr. B was the only Doctor that asked to take the case,  no one believed  their was anything  that could save his life and in this special interview … Dr.  Benedetto speaks  about David’s Faith  and Miracle       as he exceeded all expectations.

Aggressive Cancer … Know the Difference

Discovery: Tumor blood vessels can make cancer more aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy

Blood vessels  have  been  thought to be important to cancer  because of the nutritious oxygen they provide to growing tumors.  But  now,  researchers  at Weill Cornell Medical College have discovered  that  the  cells  that  line the blood vessels of tumors play a much more decisive role: By producing proteins that nurture cancer, the vessels have the ability to turn a slow-growing malignancy into an aggressive disease that can spread and resist treatment.

A single lymphoma cell,  expands  over  500-fold  within  96  hours  of  interacting         with engineered endothelial cells that line tumor blood vessels. Weill Cornell scientists have shown  these blood vessel cells can turn a slow-growing cancer into an aggressive disease that can spread and resist treatment.

Their finding, in the March 17 issue of Cancer Cell , challenges what was believed to be       a fundamental dogma in cancer.  It suggests  that it is not simply the number of genetic mutations  that occur in cancer cells that determines  the aggressiveness of the disease. Rather, lethality occurs when the cancer hijacks the reparative function of blood vessels,    a critical step that ensures tumor cells’ ability to spread and resist treatment.

The researchers …. also found the crucial nurturing molecules that cancer co-opts from  tumor blood vessels  to promote invasiveness and resistance to chemotherapy. They show in animal experiments that shutting down these previously unrecognized biological signals originating from tumor vessels makes cancer less aggressive and improves survival.

“The endothelial cells that line the vessels orchestrate a wide variety of biological process — good  and bad,”  says  the  study’s  senior  investigator,  Dr. Shahin Rafii,  co-director of Weill Cornell’s Ansary Stem Cell Institute and Tri-Institutional Stem Cell Initiative, and a professor of  Genetic Medicine.  Dr. Rafii  also  is  the  founder of Angiocrine Bioscience, a startup anchored at Weill Cornell that is investigating how endothelial cells might be used to  heal  damaged  tissues  and  regenerate  organs  —  as  well  as  targeted  tumors.  “The understanding  and control of blood vessel function  and  how this changes the malignant behaviors of cancer cells is a transformative concept  and  will pave the way for designing innovative treatments that disrupt signals from the local environment housing the tumor cells- a strategy that has been unappreciated.”

The scientists studied human B cell lymphoma cells in both laboratory experiments and in mice.  They found that although the lymphoma cells harbor the same mutations,  it is their interaction with  and  support from the tumor blood vessel cells  that surround the cancer that dictates the fate and features of the disease.

Specifically,  when slow-growing tumor cells  contact endothelial cells  that express a  protein known as Jagged 1 (Jag 1), “they become much more aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy,” says the study’s lead investigator, Dr. Zhongwei Cao, a research scientist in the Department of Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell. “When Jagged 1 is not available from surrounding blood vessels, the lethal features of tumor cells are absent.”

They further found that when Jag1 binds to and activates a receptor, Notch2, on tumor cells, the cancer becomes more tolerant of chemotherapy. “These tumor cells are sheltered from chemotherapy,” Dr. Cao says.

The researchers, joined by colleagues at Stanford and Yale,  identified how interactions between the tumor cells  and  also  the blood vessels confer  these  tumor cells  with  their aggressive and lethal features. “We think signals from these abnormally stimulated tumor endothelial cells modulate  the malignant features of lymphoma cells.  This is a reversible process  dictated  by  the  location  of  the  tumor  cells  rather  than  their  genetics,” says Dr. Joseph Scandura, an assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell. “This is a critical finding   because  it suggests  that targeting  the endothelial cells  with  agents that disrupt their specific pro-tumorigenic signals can transform aggressive cancers into slow-growing cancers that are more sensitive to chemotherapy.”

The researchers found, for example, that blocking the Notch2 receptor in lymphoma     cells or Jag1 on blood vessels made the lymphoma cells significantly more vulnerable to chemotherapy.  Even though the experiment was conducted using lymphoma cells, “we expect this finding to be applicable to other cancers, as well,”  says Dr. Bi-Sen Ding, co- senior investigator of the study and an assistant professor of genetic medicine at Weill Cornell.

“This new approach to treatment would interfere with the nurturing proteins produced   by tumor blood vessels. It is different from traditional anti-angiogenic therapy that aims   to eradicate all blood vessels  in the tumor  and prevent them from bringing oxygen and nutrients to the cancer,” says Dr. Ding, noting that conventional anti-angiogenic therapy can  increase  the aggressiveness  of  certain tumor cells  by  paradoxically enhancing the expansion of tumor blood vessels. “Simply blocking specific proteins produced by tumor blood vessels, such as Jag1, without altering oxygen and nutrient delivery will avoid this problem.

“Our approach  could  readily  be  translated to the clinical setting  since we can target    tumor blood vessels by delivering biological cruise missiles loaded with inhibitory agents for specific cancer-promoting proteins to block tumor growth and increase sensitivity to chemotherapy,” Dr. Ding adds.

Finally,  these studies suggest  screening  for anti-cancer drugs  may be more effective if tumor cells are assayed in the context of signals derived from the subverted blood vessels. Also from this information one must consider the type, class and grade of the cancer when doing natural protocols.     Chemo spreads and makes some cancers more aggressive !!!

Kangen Water

By Alfred J. Plechner,  D.V.M.

Kangen Water™ is the name that Enagic, a Japanese company, has for its reduced ionized water after municipal or other potable water is run through their proprietary ionizer units. There are other such units out in the marketplace, but most medical users tend toward the Enagic machines as they are the only ones consistently to have earned a “medical device” rating from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour. So this current inquiry will focus only on Kangen Water™ results.

The water is named Kangen and that actually has a meaning; Kangen is the Japanese word for “return to origin”. Like many Japanese words (symbols), it has a dual meaning: one is that water is returned to the way it was originally available when the planet was young and secondly that the body returns to the healthy way it used to be before suffering the toxic and debilitating stresses of aging.

Kangen Water™ is created by a special process that was developed originally by the Russians  in  the 1800’s to create alkaline  and  acid water for industry.  But in the recent past,  highly  innovative Japanese technologists  figured out a way  of using medical grade ionizing machinery that make it safe for long term human drinking and other uses. That’s been going on for more than 40 years, but it’s application to animals is a recent adjunct of its uses for humans. So far, although much more research is yet to be done, it is showing great promise by many users for pets and larger animals.

Enagic technology has designed a series of small units that can be easily attached to your tap water outlet whether from municipal water or well water.

The main reported health benefit is derived by drinking the alkaline water that is produced through ionization, typically in the 8.5pH to 9.5pH range. Both humans and pets can use it safely,  subject  to  certain  commonsense  usage  (e.g.,  if a cat is showing elevated levels of alkalinity in the kidneys,  highly alkaline water  is undoubtedly not a good direction in that specific instance unless and until that situation is straightened out). Potential users should keep  in  mind  that  the alkalinity increases  are  caused  by  virtue  of  electrical  action,  as explained below, as opposed to chemical and mineral additives that “store-bought” bottled high alkaline waters typically contain.

So how does Kangen Water™  get produced from an Enagic machine? In a word: electrolysis.

The filtered tap water comes in contact with medical grade titanium plates that have    been dipped in medical grade platinum that is electrified by a powerful little transformer, charging  the  high  alkaline  drinking  water  (just push a button to select levels of  8.5pH, 9.0pH or 9.5pH) and creating three significant attributes: higher alkalinity, negative ionic charge  (antioxidant)  while  breaking  up  globules  of  water  molecules  to  create smaller clusters  of  water molecules  which allow them to better penetrate the cell wall. The latter increases the level of hydration at a cellular level that simply cannot be attained with large clusters of tap water molecules.

In doing so, the now “healthy water” helps maintain the homeostasis of all of the living systems in the body.

This process allows for neutralization of many toxins, petrochemicals and induced chemicals like chlorine, while changing the pH, to create natural, healthy alkaline water taking the quality of the water back to its primordial origin, hence the name Kangen.

Water filters  and  filtration systems no matter how  complex cannot do this.  They are simply  better  removal  devices.  Ionizers  at  this  level  are  actually  “powering up”  the effectiveness of water to alkalinize, detox and hydrate. That can be as helpful to your pet  or farm animal as it is to humans.  There  is  increasing evidence to argue for veracity of   that statement.

Although a great deal has been written about the topic,or your further edification as to what your innocent looking tap water might really contain , it is suggested that you read Contaminated Water, p.141, in the book 50 Years of Healing, published by Amazon.com.

This will give you further insight as to what you, your family and your family pet may innocently being exposed to merely by drinking your municipal or your well water. Filtering any of that, even for plant watering, is going to be helpful. However, in order      to get the best advantages by simply reducing the dangerous

By knowing more about what you DON’T want in your water, this will help you realize  why healthy, pre-filtered alkaline water is so effective in keeping ourselves and our pets, disease, allergy and other affliction free.

Further, each of the Enagic ionizers simultaneously produces an acid water from a second outgoing hose under the unit.  Strong  acid  water  (of 2.6pH or lesser)  has  shown  itself  a powerful antiseptic effective against bacteria, virus  and  fungus. Much as our bodies enjoy better health internally  in  an  alkaline state,  the  outer  body  favors  an acid state  to help protect us externally. The ionizer mechanism produces a countervailing acid water side at the same time that alkaline water is being taken off the top of the machine. The availability of a non-chemical disinfectant  that  is  simply powered  by electricity instead of chemicals, makes  for  a  very  safe,  green  alternative  for  some  of  the  tougher  pet  problems  (skin infections,  gum deterioration,  healing of bite marks, scrapes, saddle sores, insect wounds and the like.  There are references and links to sites that show such external improvement in before and after pictures and videos.

How else can Kangen Water™ be helpful? The alkaline aspect may be a good place to   start with a body that is showing evidence of a degenerative disease like cancer.  Why? Those  bodies  have typically shown themselves to be more acidic than is thought to be healthy, often ranging from 5.8pH to 6.8pH.  It should be noted that cancer thrives in      an  acid environment that is low in oxygen (anaerobic).

It has been proven that the growth and spread of tumors will occur when the body is in      a state of acidosis and low oxygenation, that is, both acidic and anaerobic. The seminal work done by Dr. Otto Warburg in the early part of the last century earned him a Nobel Prize  in  medicine  in  1931.  He  was  unequivocal  that  an  acid  environment  was  an invitation for disease, especially cancer, as research on that malady was his specialty.

As a more direct and immediate example, there is a sodium bicarbonate study from Arizona  that demonstrates this principal of tumor reduction by direct injection in mice. The use of strong chemical alkalinizers is promising,  but by using Kangen Water™, you might achieve the same effects without fear of “over-alkalining” the way you might if you introduced strong chemical alkaliners into the body without giving the body a chance to buffer.  The  point,  however,  is  that  more  practitioners  are  recognizing  the power of ionized water to achieve some of these effects.

This sodium bicarbonate study appears on my website as NaHCO3 Study in Arizona          in Mice as well as in my new book that Amazon.com will make available to the general public momentarily. The title of the book is Against the Odds, Given Up For Dead.

My studies have indicated that the use of a premium calcium montmorillinite                  with a strong negative ion will reverse both of these conditions.

However now, with the availability of having an Enagic unit that produces Kangen Water™, you can get the same beneficial effects with some measure of safety, as this technology has been used by hundreds of thousands of people for many years with no significant reported negative side effects.

Even the best filtration units cannot do this no matter how complex they are. Remember, filters are good at taking contaminants out of water. An ionizer unit starts from filtered water and THEN powers it up for the three stated effects: alkalinity, detoxification and hydration.

Besides the importance of this to the world of human health, It is thought that in order     to change the pH of the urine, a dietary change will be necessary and is the only way to     do this without taking synthetic chemicals to try to alter the PH.

Now there may be an easier way to do this with Kangen Water™, by altering the pH           of the water source that the patient is drinking.

Obviously a number of clinical studies are in order to prove this, but there has been some intriguing anecdotal evidence of the efficacy of this theory, as noted in the links below.

One last feature that I find of great importance  for  those  of  us  that  want  to  disinfect various surfaces in our home,  apartment,  business  or  medical facility  without exposing ourselves,  our family members  and our family pets to harmful chemical disinfectants,  is the fact  that  this unit has a setting  by simply pushing a button  to produce a highly acidic water with a pH low enough to kill almost all bacteria, fungi and mold merely by changing the pH level of the environment they seem to live  and  thrive in.  Ironically,  the anaerobic environment created  by  this strong acid water  is  precisely what kills the above microbial life. Anything below 2.6pH will act within just seconds. Enagic’s machines tend to produce the best and most consistent form of this water for home machines and it is for that reason that  most  of  the   early veterinary work in the USA  will  inevitably be based upon Kangen machines.   When Glenna tells me it worked for her it works and also I don’t get paid any endorsement for writing this blog post  🙂

The Emotional Immune System by Tarilee Cornish, Certified Nutritional Practitioner

Could stress and worry be holding you back from reaching your health goals? Adopting some enjoyable prescriptions for a healthier immune system may help you to synergize your immune system with your other healing efforts. Pleasure and relaxation may be just what the doctor will be ordering in the future. The volume of scientific evidence in Mind Body Medicine continues to expand and with it, our acceptance of the importance of emotional and mental states to our physical health

Our emotional and mental health are entwined with our physical health. In order to boost physical healing, we need to reduce the amount of stress, fear, and conflict and increase the amount of love, pleasure and laughter in our lives. Pursuing even the best of therapeutic supports in a life that is saturated with stress could be seen as analogous to eating wonderfully healthy foods but failing to drink.

Pleasure, love, social connection, harmony, and self regulation techniques like meditation, all fuel happiness and have been scientifically proven to have a powerful positive impact on our immune health and healing. However many of us don’t prioritize these pleasant parts of our lives. In fact, a low sense of self worth may prevent some of us from seeking the very relaxing and happy activities that could relieve the physical ailments that amplify suffering. This is a difficult trap to escape from. The good news is that even if this is the case and at first we’re not fully at ease with the pursuit of emotional happiness, we can just keep practicing it until it becomes comfortable.

Even a dutiful pursuit of happiness can have the desired effect eventually. When happiness seeking behaviour is repeated often enough it becomes a natural survival habit. Regardless of whether we “throw ourselves into it” fully, we can’t help but feel an increase in positive feelings. These good feelings exponentially reinforce our drive to pursue more fun and they also enhance our self worth and encourage social behavior. Eventually the practice just becomes a natural part of who we are as happier, healthier people surrounded by a nourishing social environment.

The Chemistry of Emotions

Emotions trigger a cascade of biochemical changes in our bodies that affect the way our bodies function and how we feel.  Our nervous  and  endocrine systems communicate bi- directionally with our immune system in the “language” of hormones and neuropeptides. This means that our emotions can induce health or illness and, in turn our state of health can induce emotions.  Armed with this information  we can begin to understand answers to questions like:

Why do optimists live longer?  How does happiness improve immune function:  Why do stress and depression slow healing and the immune defense against cancer? Discoveries in the fascinating fields  of  applied psychophysiology,  health psychology,  biopsychiatry and psychoneuroimmunology  have  documented  many of the biochemical intersections of the body and mind in terms of immune health. Here are some examples.

Natural killer blood cells (NK cells) work to destroy tumour cells, diseased tissue or invading viruses, bacteria etc.  As the first defense role in controlling infection in the early stages of infection or damaged, the levels of NK cells are considered indicative of immune strength.  Psychological stress  reduces  our  Natural Killer cells  and  can increase disease severity.   Stressed medical students tested on the day of their exams showed significantly lowered immune markers including lowered NK cell.6 Lack of social bonding also impacts the levels of these cells as was shown in a study that observed that lonely medical students had lower levels of NK cell activity than socially active students.8

Oxytocin, is a hormone released during emotional bonding, sexual intimacy, as well as during childbirth and in preparation for breast feeding.  Scientists  also  think  it  supports maternal behaviors as well as social recognition, trust, and bonding. It also regulates blood pressure, body temperature, wound healing and even relief from pain.  So  we  only  get  to receive the full benefits of this beautiful hormone when we are celebrating love in one of its many forms.

Cortisol is also a hormone that is excreted during stress. Along with adrenaline, during stress, it plays an important part of the “fight or flight” response, helping prepare the body for  emergency action.  Too much cortisol  for too long contributes  to high blood pressure, reduced mental performance,  also blood sugar problems,  and thyroid suppression, “bad” cholesterol build up  and  increased abdominal fat.  Low  saliva  levels  are  interpreted  to mean  the  subject  is  experiencing little stress  and  high levels  are  correlated  with  high stress. Grief suppresses immune health. A study of bereaved spouses showed that they had elevated cortisol and decreased NK cell lysis  . Grief,  separation,  heartbreak  and  divorce have also been proven to increase cortisol secretions.

Interestingly, the body can not decipher true threats from imagined. Our body will respond with cortisol and other toxic biochemical stress reactions in a similar manner whether  we  are  worrying  and  imagining  a  dangerous or stressful event or actually experiencing it. Here’s a strong point to keep in mind when choosing our thoughts!

Immunoglobin A  is  a  specialized protein called an antibody that is produced by white blood cells to battle foreign pathogens such as bacteria.  It  supports  the  immune system    of the mucous membranes and is the bodies most prolific and important anti body. Similar to NK cells, the more Immunoglobin A measured through the blood,  the stronger immune function is. Studies show that when we are calm and happy, this chemical is at it’s highest levels and when we are frightened or angry, it is reduced.

Rate of Healing and Overall Resilience
Conflict  and  lack of anger control  can reduce our ability to heal.  For example couples        in conflict were shown to have slower healing blisters than those in harmony. In another study children exposed to psychosocial stress suffered more illness  and more fevers.  The children of parents exhibiting stress symptoms also suffered more illness.  Neuropeptides are another category of specialized protein. They have a particularly interesting role in the transmission of emotional reactions  within  the  body.  Neuropeptides  received  attention because their discovery  by Candice Pert  in  the  1970’s amplified our scientific mind body understanding.  Their discovery raised the legitimacy of mind body research significantly. This was because these messengers of emotion were discovered throughout the body, not just in the brain as previously thought.  Neuropeptides  create  the  experience  of  moods, pain and pleasure and are found in every part of our bodies.  Neuropeptides  are believed    to facilitate an intimate communication  between  the immune system  and our emotions.   If  our  body  is  experiencing emotional sensations like tightness in the chest or an upset stomach it is not just because our brains signal the stress alert. We literally feel stress (and pleasurable emotions) throughout our body!

Bowel Immune Function
Bowel health is another crucial,  though  little  understood  measure  of  immune health. According to and article in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology,  bowel biology is made up of “microflora,  a large bacteria community that colonizes the gut with metabolic activity equal to an organ.” This microflora plays a significant role in our immune function at least partially via our intestinal mucous membrane.

Our immune health is strongly influenced by our digestive and bowel health, which are themselves affected  by stress in a couple of ways.  Negative emotions  trigger the release     of pro-inflammatory agents that worsen intestinal conditions such as colitis, Crohns and irritable bowel syndrome. Inflammatory bowel conditions such as these may also irritate the immune mucosa lining of the gut  and  may  result in frequent elimination which can lower populations of beneficial bacteria which play a large role in immune function.

Sleep Derived Immune Strength
Sleep health, like bowel health, is also related to immune function. Unlike bowel health, sleep is well known by most of us for its importance for both happiness  and healthfulness, perhaps because the effects of sleep loss can be felt so immediately. There is no shortage of science supporting the relationship between sleep and stress. Studies have also shown that deprivation of REM  (rapid eye movement)  sleep causes psychological disturbances,  such as  apathy,  depression,  irritability,  confusion,  disorientation,  hallucinations,  impaired memory, and paranoia. As most of us know, sleep also has a paradoxical relationship with stress. Too much stress interrupts sleep which then causes more stress.

Sleep loss lowers immune function too.  Even  just  one  night  of  disturbed  sleep  can   decrease production  and  activity  of  white blood cells and T cells.  One  study  showed       that chronic sleep deprivation  can  leave children  at  a higher risk of  catching colds, flu,   and  other  infectious  diseases.  Sleep shortages can  increase daily stress  (and therefore immunity) by interfering with memory and focus and the ability to organize information.

Many different kinds of unpleasant stressors seem to have a similar deleterious effect      on the immune system and the above information reinforces the idea that happiness is necessary for health.

The Healing Power of Happiness

You may already have been aware of some of these facts. Perhaps you’ve also been the recipient of the trite, useless advice that is often offered in relation to it. “Avoid stress.”    Of course if we are sentient and alive in our modern world, stress will always be a part of our living in it. But the situation is far from hopeless. Since we know that our health and our state of mind affect each other,  this  means  that  we can learn conscious habits  and behavioral responses to shift these mind~body interactions so that they work out in our favour. Luckily, the prescription is a fun one.   It’s Happiness for health and health for happiness!

Who needs an excuse to have fun? Strange as it may seem, some people do need to             be persuaded to have fun. As mentioned above, people with low self worth may require     a shift in attitude before actively seeking out fun in their lives. However once they come     to understand the full impact that pleasure can have on their health they may choose to actively pursue it and in the process,  reduce  some  of  the  suffering  that  causes  their feelings of low self worth.

In addition, may many goal oriented, work driven people may need persuading. In  keeping with their approach to life, these people may need to see happiness as something productive before they will make time for it.  As  we  will  see in the following exploration, happiness does indeed support productivity in very practical ways. Still, it’s important not to attack it’s pursuit  as  yet another project.  Happiness  is  a  productive  (and medicinal) objective but rather than strike out to achieve some fun,  we  can  just drink it up in all its delicious pleasure as we give ourselves permission to revel in it and skip the guilt!

The rest  of  this article will illustrate happy, calm, loving feelings and steady, centred states of mind not only boost our quality of life,  they  improve  biochemical markers of immune function.
There are several very pleasant Actions for Happiness that we can deliberately build into our lives such as laughing, sleeping, dancing, singing and exercising. In addition there are Aspirations for Happiness, which are also within our control but involve some circumstantial components as well as other people. These include tender love, social bonding, romantic love and therapeutic interventions.

Finally  there  is a  Self Regulation for Health and Happiness.  Once related skills are developed this is entirely within our control. As well as helping us feel calmer and have equanimity with life’s stresses self regulation can help us learn how to we incorporate a mindfulness awareness into our moment to moment existence. This helps enhance our enjoyment of pleasure while reducing our suffering from discomfort and pain.

Actions for Health and Happiness

Laugh:
Laughter Therapy really does work! The Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor defines  humor  therapy  as:   ” any  intervention  that  promotes  health  and  wellness  by stimulating a playful discovery, expression, or appreciation of the absurdity or incongruity of life’s situations [and can] be used as a complementary treatment of illness to facilitate healing or coping, whether physical, emotional, cognitive, social, or spiritual.”

Humour boosts NK cell activity, lowers cortisol levels, pain thresholds, physical stress tolerance and overall well being. For example, two studies that involved subjects watching funny videos observed a variety of these changes.  One  study  was  of  cancer patients and another of healthy men. One of their findings of note was that the immune boost from laughing can last up to twelve hours.

Laughter  was  also  shown  to  foster closer relationships  between  individuals,  and  we      know from other studies  that social bonds foster healing.  As  an  added  bonus,  laughter increases  the  heart’s  activity  and  stimulates  blood  circulation  while exercising also the respiratory system. These benefits can help keep us in shape to do even more laughing, not to mention, dancing and singing, which are also good for our health! 16

Dance and Sing:
Creative expression in sound and movement can heal. German researchers discovered superior immune activity in the singers they studied.  Dancing has been shown to improve immune function.  While both singing and dancing incorporate stretching,  cardiovascular activity,  and  the “cultural mediation of body, mind, emotion and mind.” It is thought this may cancel out the impact of pain or stress because it is so engaging and meaningful.

There may also be benefits related to the confidence boosting potential for mastery of movement and sound  and the altered  or spiritual states that dancing  and singing can create. The celebration of play through dancing and singing has great healing potential  but so does the relaxing, rejuvenation of good rest.

Sleep-for prevention and for healing:
The state of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is experienced a few times per night after   we fall deeply asleep. It promotes emotional healing, brain restoration, and growth. Brief napping is also therapeutic.  Naps can leave us in a better mood,  and more alert.  In fact, that extra edge can last for up to 10 hours after we wake up from a nap.

Exercise:
Researchers seem to agree on the benefits of moderate regular exercise to boost immune function and mood though some studies have concluded that too much vigorous exercise weakens immune health.  Although with exercise that is too vigorous may cause strain, a interesting experiment  with college women  showed  regular vigorous exercise increased their perception of their health.  Not surprisingly,  a higher perception of health has been linked to better immunity. We could conclude from these somewhat contradictory results that only moderate exercise at a rate suitable for our health and fitness level is appropriate.

Conscious Control:
Conscious control is also related to self regulation except it’s much more specific. Fascinating research has verified our human ability to consciously control  physiological functions that are not usually thought of as voluntary. In fact, we can learn to control our brainwaves, our skin temperature,  respiration  and  cardiovascular functions  as  well as other autonomic process.  Astonishingly,  a  doctor  working  at McMaster University  in Hamilton showed that subjects could even learn conscious control of individual neurons and muscle cells!   (The exciting implications of this research are many. If we can control single cells through our thoughts, we could potentially learn to impact any body function or any part of our body.

We’ve looked at the ways that we can intentionally impact our happiness level. Another way we can boost our emotional  and  mental health is to aspire to aspire to create loving, mutually beneficial social connections (Aspirations for Happiness). By building the above Actions for Health into our lives we boost our happiness reserves to that we can bring the best of ourselves our social lives and thus attract the same in others.  Following are some great reasons to give ourselves to this aim.

Aspirations for Health and Happiness

Social Connectivity
We are social creatures, this is no surprise. It’s simple, bonding boosts immunity. The more time we spend around people, the healthier we are and the longer we live.24

Tender Love
Love for a pet or a favorite person boosts our health. Measurable stress reduction may occur after as little as five minutes of interaction with a pet dog. Just being in the presence of  / or looking at a favorite person elicits calming, positive changes in the central nervous, endocrine and immune systems.

Romantic and Sexual Love:
Romantic love and sexual activity have their place in our health care too. Intimacy supports the immune system,  reduces anxiety,  buffers us against depression,  while an active sex life helps us live longer with stronger cardiovascular health, pain tolerance and immune function.  A healthy sex life even reduces our chances of cancer  and depression. Scientists  are  not sure of  the exact reasons for all these benefits  but the current leading theory is that it’s the hormone oxitocin.  It is released during childbirth and is thought to assist  with  bonding  between mother and infant.  We now know that it increases during ovulation and is also released during orgasm, at up to five times its normal blood level!

Psychosocial Intervention:
In times of severe sickness or significant emotional disruptions, professional support may be in order. Psychosocial interventions such as support groups, counseling and relaxation training can improve immune markers and reduce disease severity.  When dealing with a major illness  such  as  cancer  or  clinical depression,  many people seek support through therapy programs  at their local hospital.  Cancer patients  with  metastatic  breast  cancer who participated in weekly supportive group therapy sessions (including self hypnosis for pain for pain), live longer than non participants.26 Participating in relaxation training can also support healing through a significant enhancement in NK cell activity and a decrease in stress symptoms. 26

Happiness and Joy
Happiness and joy trigger positive immune responses. For example, in 1 study subjects were exposed to fragrances  and  emotional pictures that elicited positive emotions.  Their immune system showed reduced cortisol levels  and  increased immunoglobulin A counts. Another study showed that people with positive life outlooks are less vulnerable to cancer, HIV, cardiovascular disease and auto immune conditions.27

Self Regulation for Health and Happiness

There are many fun antidotes to stress like some of the ones we’ve been discussing.         For those of us willing to devote a little concentration to the exercise we can improve     how our brain and body actually respond to stress.  This is called self regulation and    there are many possible methods.  Also,  Practices like mindfulness,  compassion or concentration meditation and even Tai Chi  or  yogic breathing (pranayama) can all amplify our resilience to emotional,  physical and mental stress. They also enhance          self awareness.

To some degree, even just becoming conscious of our thought patterns can empower       our  health.  When we notice negative thoughts  going through our mind,  one thing we     can do is just replace the thought with a more positive one,  just as we might switch the channel  from  a  TV station we don’t’ like.  This way we save ourselves …. from the toxic biochemistry that would be associated with the continuation of that thought. Meditative techniques help us develop discipline and the deeper self awareness required to make choices about how we think and act.

Many of these practices, most of which originated in the East, are becoming popular around the world as the word spreads that we may be able to control how much we suffer from difficult circumstances.  In fact,  participation  in self regulation training techniques has been shown to realize actual changes  in our brain that help stress roll off of us more easily.

When researchers scanned the brains of meditating Buddhist monks using an MRI, they were  able  to  observe  the monks  extraordinarily calm responses  to emotionally charged film images.  Even while watching disturbing images of war they were able to respond with equanimity.  In  another  study  of  meditators,  brain  changes  associated  with  emotional steadiness were observed using EEG technology (brain electrodes.) Attention, interception and sensory processing  were  more  developed in meditation participants. Also Meditative activities not only boosts our immune system,  they help prevent stress.  A regular practice helps us build an inner steadiness that leads to resilience against stress.

Is your life out of control?
If life keeps throwing you curve balls; if you feel more pain and disappointment in          your world than peace, please keep all of the above information in mind to help inspire you to try fun, love and self regulation as possible stress remedies. Grim endurance and resentment really don’t help and there are no awards at the end no matter how much we survive.  In addition to seeking pleasure,  relaxation and fun, what might help, is to truly follow the rather cliché advice,  “loosen — up”.  When examined carefully it’s clear this is actually some “hands on” mindfulness advice. The phrase is actually wisely instructional regarding the release of tension. Tension is a form of resistance to whatever we are experiencing and it’s the opposite of acceptance and it breeds further mental, emotional and physical tension.

According to mindfulness teacher,  Shinzen Young,  resistance  amplifies  and  expands suffering.  “Loosening”  those  “tights”  however,  can  help us  to allow difficult emotions   (or other sensations) to flow through and out of us more easily. When we tighten around them instead,  they  tend  to congeal  and stick around longer than necessary,  holding all sorts of health stresses with them. “Loosening up” is something we can do physically and mentally and any readings or recordings in mindfulness meditation will present some version of this approach.

Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation  is  unique  to other meditation techniques in it’s emphasis on       the observation of and acceptance of our inner states and emotions. The immune system benefits from this method may well be related to this increased equanimity with ourselves as well as with life’s stresses. Proven benefits include better mood, lessened anxiety and a more positive outlook.
Mindful communication and anger management can also be considered forms of self regulation. In a couples study about the benefit of anger control, researchers found that the greater the anger control the faster the blisters healed.31

Mindfulness is helpful for the health and comfort of the body but is also a useful way to cope with a erratic or angst ridden mind.  Since the one thing we do have a lot of control over the way we directly steer our mental navigation of the pressures in our world, inner management  and  inner nurturing is one of the best methods to enhance our moment to moment experiences.  We’re all alone in our heads  and so it’s really up to us to learn how  to “detoxify” the anxiety and any “toxic” thoughts that we might be harboring. The simple (but not easy) best practice of being truly present in this moment by dismissing fantasies, memories or plans  (which represent the past or the future),  can  bring  great  relief from the fear and resentment that cause us to suffer emotionally. Mindfulness meditation can greatly improve our ability to cope with physical discomfort as well and there are many excellent information sources available on the topic for further reading if your interest    has been awakened.

Tai Chi and Yoga
Tai Chi is another healthy form of self regulation that is also getting a lot of attention in recent decades. Tai Chi Chuan originates from ancient Chinese martial arts and consists   of a slow, focused exercise that is described  by  some as  “movement meditation”.  A 25-week  study  was  funded  by  the National Institute of Aging and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine,  also  demonstrated  that  Tai Chi  effectively strengthens the immune system.  Yoga breathing  can  be  powerful as well,  normalizing heart rate and increasing lymphocyte levels (an indicator of improved immune function.)

Inviting a better quality of life, and health, into our lives
There are very practical things  that  we  may be able  to do to reduce stress  like turning       the cell phone off,  putting email on manual send and receive,  and  setting up work hours that protect play and relationship time, even if this means that we make less time for work. Studies show that making more time for quality of life  and  relationships produces greater happiness  than making more money!  In addition,  also  investing  in inner self regulatory activities can have just as much impact on our happiness and health,  especially whenever combined as part of a healthy balance of health care, pleasure and meditative pursuits.

We may derive hopefulness  and  a  sense of a more tangible grip  on our body experiences when we remember out our emotional health dramatically affects our health. So, whenever possible, we can try to direct our choices with overall quality of life in mind.

Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Within our Facebook group we had a member state, “I did both medical chemotherapy,  surgery,  radiation.  I also changed my diet  to eat barely any processed  foods,  mostly organically  foods,  a lot of  probiotics,  and meats that are organic.  Eat nothing out of  a can, no soda or alcohol. For lifestyle changes, I also do meditation everyday. Light exercises. Positive affirmations,  I changed my way of seeing the world and let go of a lot of stress. And being out in nature everyday.

Idk,  those of  the things I did.  I am in remission, NED  from T.N.B.C.  I do have a lot of  side effects  from chemo and radiation that I am trying to heal  from. My main message to  you would be: I guess is to keep learning take in a lot of information and also do the best you can with the information while listening to your ones body.  SO Hopefully, I stay in remission.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A major breakthrough could be coming for patients who suffer from a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer also commonly referred to as “Triple Negative.”  Researchers at the Mayo Clinic.  Dr. Edith Perez, lead researcher on the project at Mayo Clinic. Perez is one of the top breast cancer researchers in the world. She teamed with immunologist Dr. Keith Knutson to develop the vaccine. Knutson’s research has worked on treatments for both ovarian and breast cancer.

Dr. Edith A. Perez [1], M.D., is a cancer specialist and an internationally known translational researcher who holds positions at both Genentech and Mayo Clinic. She is the Director of  the Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Translational Genomics Program  started   in 2009 and a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Medical School.  In August 2015, Dr. Perez joined Genentech US Medical Affairs (USMA) and also as Vice President and Head of the BioOncology Medical Unit.  In  her  new  role,  she  will  also  provide  leadership  for  all BioOncology Medical Affairs activities in the United States.

Throughout her career, Dr. Perez has developed a wide range of clinical trials exploring  the use of new therapeutic agents for the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.  Also In 2005, Dr. Perez,  along with her team,  revealed the results of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group N9831 Intergroup trial, of which she was the principal investigator. The results showed a considerable decrease in recurrence  and  also increase in the survival of patients with HER2-positive breast cancer after the inclusion of trastuzumab to adjuvant chemotherapy. Following this result, Dr. Perez progressed into her present work, leading and helping develop basic research studies to evaluate the role of genetic markers in the development and aggressiveness of breast cancer.

Dr. Perez  has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles  and  is invited frequently      to the lecture at national and international meetings and serves on the editorial boards of multiple academic journals. She has also held positions within Mayo Clinic, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Perez  earned  her  medical  degree  from  the  University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan and completed her residency in internal medicine at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in California.  She  served  as general internist in the Division of National Health Services Corps,  Los Angeles,  and  as a fellow in Hematology/Oncology at Martinez Veterans’ Administration Medical Center  at  the  University of California, Davis School of Medicine.  Dr. Perez is board certified in internal medicine, internal medicine – medical oncology and internal medicine – hematology.

Dr. Perez is also a cofounder of the 26.2 with Donna The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer , which is also dedicated to breast cancer research and care. It is the only marathon in the U.S. devoted solely to raising funds to end breast cancer.

Also a promising new study from Mayo Clinic,  in conjunction  with Caris Life Sciences, points to immunotherapy as a possible treatment option for patients with the difficult-to-treat triple negative breast cancer mutation. The study was presented this week at the 50th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago.

“This study may change our ability to treat triple negative breast cancer patients,” says Barbara Pockaj, M.D., lead investigator of the study and Mayo Clinic surgeon. “We may have signs that these patients can be treated with immunotherapy.  We don’t have a lot     of options for these patients and this would really expand our options.”

Dr. Barbara A.Pockaj, M.D., a surgical oncologist with a strong clinical and research interest in breast cancer and malignant melanoma. Dr. Pockaj’s research focuses not only on clinical studies but also translational science. She has an extensive clinical database of newly diagnosed breast and melanoma patients that is coupled with a large complementary biobank of breast cancer specimens.

Several areas of clinical research include clinical behavior of triple negative breast cancers, clinical implications of sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer and melanoma, prognostic significance of palpable breast cancer, and ramifications of breast reconstruction.

Dr. Pockaj is the chair of the Breast Cancer Interest Group (BIG), a collaboration between researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and Arizona State University (ASU). The collaboration focuses on using the state-of-the-art genomics infrastructure and a high-quality breast cancer tumor biorepository. The focus of the group is to investigate molecular pathways to identify treatment targets for patients with triple negative breast cancer and endocrine-resistant breast cancer.

Focus areas

Dr. Pockaj’s team focuses on:

  • Identification of pathways used by triple negative breast cancer for oncogenic growth using clonal analysis of triple negative breast cancer based upon DNA gains or losses. Validation of the abnormal pathway is then evaluated by tissue microarray.
  • Characterization of androgen receptor expression in triple negative breast cancer and estrogen-resistant breast cancer. Further evaluation of abnormal gene expression and pathway dysregulation in androgen receptor signaling.

Other research interests:

  • Breast cancer — all aspects of the clinical care of breast cancer, including new diagnostic modalities, surgical care and advancement of reconstructive techniques, and clinical outcomes; additionally, translational research involving the molecular phenotypes and their implications, and immunologic aspects (including vaccine therapy)
  • Melanoma — all aspects of the clinical care of melanoma
  • Single institution and multi-institution clinical trials
  • Quality-of-life studies in cancer patients

Significance to patient care

The treatment of breast cancer has changed from treating it as a single disease to considering tailored treatment as a heterogenous groups of cancers with distinctive pathobiology. The molecular classification of major tumor groups is primarily the result of intensive genomics research. This has significant ramifications for treatment potential. This is true for not only breast cancer but also melanoma.

Leveraging our clinical and translational work is the only way to improve treatment for cancer patients in the future.

Ivelisse Page is On a Mission.

Cancer survivor drives John Hopkins mistletoe therapy trials:

In 2011, Page launched Believe Big, a nonprofit foundation that helps cancer patients    and their families through this traumatic,  life — changing diagnosis.  Based on her own experience as a colon cancer survivor, Page aims to educate the cancer community about the importance of combining conventional and complementary approaches to treatment.

To that end,  Believe Big is the primary backer of a clinical trial of mistletoe extract,  an alternative therapy Page underwent, slated to begin at Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center within the next six months.

Page attributes her current health condition to conventional surgery and complementary mistletoe extract, a therapy widely used in Europe as an alternative cancer treatment.

However, her doctor, Dr. Peter Hinderberger, of the Ruscombe Mansion Community Health Center near Sinai Hospital, though, is well versed in the treatment.

Through her own research and through the recommendations of friends, Page became acquainted with Hinderberger’s work in complementary medicine.

He’s one of two physicians in Baltimore — and 50 total in the U.S. — allowed to prescribe mistletoe for certain cases.  Dr. Hinderberger,  now a board member  of  Believe Big,  first learned about the treatment in the 1970s when he worked at a cancer clinic in Switzerland that specialized in alternative treatment.

Dr. Hinderberger describes mistletoe extract as the “backbone” of his cancer protocol, the specifics depending on the patient’s kind of cancer, current stage and treatment — surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

While mistletoe is not approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).        It falls under the category of  homeopathy  and  is paid for out-of-pocket,  at a cost of $100    to $150 per month, depending on the extract intensity and number of injections.

Page, a slim, vibrant woman who runs Believe Big out of her home in Reisterstown,        has had an equally improbable journey.

Five years ago, the 37-year-old mother of four, was found to have Stage 4 colon cancer  that eventually spread to her liver, dropping her survival rate chances after two years     to just 8 percent.

That’s why after her surgery, Page searched for an alternative to standard chemotherapy treatment.

“As I was going through this process, I saw people who were in such a hopeless state.          I wanted to help them,  to let them know about treatments other than the traditional ones,” said Page, who added that she is now cancer-free.

At first blush, Page was taken aback by the thought of being cured by mistletoe extract, which is sold under the brand names Iscador, Helixor and a handful of others, in liquid form in injectable vials.

“I’m like, ‘mistletoe, what’s that? That’s what I see at Christmastime,’ she said.               ‘Why haven’t I been told about this before?'”

According to the institute,  several trials  of  mistletoe  have been undertaken  and are     under way in Europe for those countries’ official approval. In the U.S., the institute lists two mistletoe trials besides Hopkins, although the sites are not given and the results not yet published.

Still,  after Dr. Hinderberger explained that mistletoe contains viscotoxin,  a poisonous substance that actively and directly kills cancer cells and boosts patients’ cancer-fighting immune system via special proteins called lectins, Page became very interested. Once he added that the substance also prevents new blood-vessel formation in cancers and promotes natural cell death, she was all in.

“When I found out from my oncologist that I only had a 10 percent better chance of survival by taking chemo(therapy), I decided to burn the boats and not look back,” she said. “Why would I want to destroy everything in my body for just a 10 percent chance?”

From clinical studies and his personal experience, “mistletoe prolongs survival time and improves the quality of life,” Dr. Hinderberger said.

Page is the link between Dr. Hinderberger and Dr. Luis Diaz, an associate professor           of oncology at Hopkins’ Kimmel Cancer Center, who is conducting the mistletoe trial.       Diaz is also a board member of Believe Big.

“Dr. Diaz followed my progress” on mistletoe therapy, Page said. “Once I hit the one-year mark, I told him, ‘We need to make this available.’ At the three-year mark, he was willing to do the trial. He told me that being cancer-free three years after surgery is unbelievable.”

Apparently, she and the mistletoe also made a big believer of Diaz.

                                                               Iscador/Mistletoe

Mistletoe,  or Viscum album is a semi-parasitic plant that grows on oaks and other trees   in Europe and Asia. Mistletoe is also found in America and Korea, but normally only the European species is used in the treatment of cancer, inflammatory conditions and AIDS. The leaves, twigs, and berries are what is used to make these herbal medicines. Because the medicinal doses are small (it can be poisonous in large doses), many believe it to be “homeopathic,” but it isn’t.

Mistletoe was first proposed for the treatment of cancer in 1920 by Rudolph Steiner, an Austrian Swiss physician who founded the Society for Cancer Research to promote mistletoe extracts and anthroposophical medicine.

What studies show:

In animal studies, mistletoe preparations have helped fight some forms of cancer. The  best results with Iscador are claimed for its use with solid tumors both before and after surgery and radiation.  Given 10  to  14 days before surgery,  it is thought to help prevent metastatic spread  due  to  surgery  and  to  promotes  recovery  and  it  is  also   used  for advanced stage,  inoperable solid tumors,  especially  cancers  of  the  bladder,  stomach, intestine, genital organs, and skin.

It is also claimed that bone metastases are retarded in some cases. Results appear less promising for inoperable cancers of the breast, lungs and esophagus.  It is thought that tumor growth slows or stops,  and then gradual regression begins.  It is believed  tumor cells are transformed first to a semi-malignant form, then to chronic inflammation and finally to normal tissue.

Mistletoe …. contains a cytotoxic lectin, viscumin. It also contains a number of    cytotoxic proteins and polypetides (viscotoxins). Various lectins are both cytotoxic and immunostimulatory.  It  induces  tumor  necrosis,  increases  natural killer cell  activity, increases production  of  interleukins 1 and 6;  activates macrophages;  also will induce programmed cell death (apoptosis), and protects the DNA in normal cells during chemotherapy.

Mistletoe extracts are marketed under several trade names, such as Iscador, Helixor, Eurixor, and Isorel, most of which are available in Europe. Weleda AG manufactures Iscador., which consists of fermented extracts of mistletoe, sometimes combined with trace amounts of silver, copper or mercury. In the United States, any of these extracts must be prescribed by a physician.

However, most doctors in the US do not use it. Though mistletoe is not commonly used in the United States,  it is allowed by compassionate use.  Physicians in the United States can order Iscador directly from European manufacturers. Oral/liquid mistletoe can be ordered by your physician by contacting Weleda AG …. through www.usa.weleda.com or by calling 800-241-1030.

Some of the alternative physicians that use it include: San Diego Clinic and Stella Maris   in Mexico,  Dr. Jesse Stoff in Arizona,  Atkins Center in NY,  Lukas Clinic  in  Switzerland, Joseph Brenner, M.D. in Tel-Aviv, Klinik St George and Hufeland Clinic in Germany, and Humlegaarden  in Denmark.  If you are aware of any clinical trials using mistletoe or any other clinics using it, please email our webmaster to add this information to our website.

For a list of clinical trials using mistletoe, go to: http://www.foreigntrials.com/trials_list.html.

Mistletoe preparations are used to stimulate the immune system, to kill cancer cells, and to help reduce tumor size. It may also help improve the quality of life and survival of some cancer patients, especially those using chemo and radiation, and may help reduce pain and side effects of these treatments. A German study done by Dr. Ronald Grossarth-Maticek of the Institute  for Preventive Medicine in Heidelberg  shows  that,  when used as adjunctive treatment in patients with a variety of cancers,  it can increase survival time by as much as 40%.

Typical Treatment:

A typical treatment course can last several months to years.  The  doses  are  gradually increased and adjusted depending on the patient’s general condition, sex, age, and type of cancer. Mistletoe is typically given by subcutaneous injection, but it sometimes is injected directly into the tumor particularly on the liver, esophagus and cervix. It may also be taken orally in tumors of the brain and spinal cord.

Side effects and possible risks:
Commercial mistletoe extracts generally have minimal side effects, but in rare cases allergic symptoms  including  anaphylactic reactions  have  been reported.  It is usually produces an increase in body temperature  and  flu-like symptoms.  In  addition,  to the injection site can become inflamed  and   abdominal pain with nausea may occur. Other side effects include: upset stomach,  vomiting,  diarrhea,  chills, fever, headaches, chest pain, and low blood pressure.

Overdose, however, can cause severe poisoning including seizures, coma and death.      Even a few leaves or berries can cause poisoning, so never eat part of a mistletoe plant   and  keep  the  plants away  from animals  and  children.  In addition,  the preparation contains  tyramine,  patients  on  any  type  of  monoamine  oxidase  (MAO)  inhibitor antidepressant should not take it. The combination can cause dangerously high blood pressure. People with heart problems should also be careful,   it raises blood pressure    and accelerates the pulse.

Therapy is normally discontinued in case of high temperature over 38ºC.  Also Some research indicates Iscador injections should not be administered during the first days of the menstrual period.  Seizures and death have been reported.  This product should only   be used in a closely supervised setting, and should not be used for normal consumption – reasons mistletoe products must be prescribed by a physician.

To avoid potential interactions, be sure to let your health care provider know if  you use this  or  any other type of  complementary therapy, and always take under the advice and the supervision of a health practioner.

Ozone Therapy Benefits

Image result for ozonated water cancer

Thanks to the work of Dr. Otto Warburg, the link between oxygen and cancer is clear. In fact, an underlying cause of cancer is low cellular oxygenation levels.  Low levels of oxygen in the body damages respiration enzymes, which then obstructs the cell’s ability to produce energy.

In 1931 Dr. Warburg won his first Nobel Prize for proving cancer is caused by a lack of oxygen respiration in cells. He stated in an article titled The Prime Cause and Prevention of Cancer that “the cause of cancer is no longer a mystery, we know it occurs whenever any cell is denied 60% of its oxygen requirements.”

How Does Ozone Treats Cancer….

alternative treatment for cancer

Cancer cells derive their energy by fermenting sugar without using Oxygen. Cancer cells are deficient in antioxidant enzyme system like other lower life forms and are unable to fight the Ozone onslaught. On the other hand normal, healthy cells can protect themselves from Ozone by their rich Anti-Oxidant Defense System. Ozone Therapy should be offered to ALL cancer patients.   Ozone prevents cells from fermenting sugars and thus prevents cancer.

It reduces the side effects associated with chemotherapy and radiation to a very large extent. Reduces pain in cancer.

  • It helps in reducing tumor size.
  • It gives feeling of well being and rejuvenation. The zest for life is returned.
  • It helps in controlling troublesome symptoms in certain inoperable cancers.     Example, fits in meningioma

Colon-Cancer-Treatment1

Besides cancer treatment, ozone therapy also works for many other diseases.

How does it affect only the unhealthy cells?

Anti-cancer benefits: Medical ozone is such a wonder for treatment of cancer in that    it doesn’t harm healthy cells but it oxidizes and destroys unhealthy cells including cancer cells, viruses, bacteria, fungal cells and other unwanted cells.

Ozone (O3) is broken down in the blood to a single oxygen and hydrogen peroxide by normal cells in the tissues of the body by enzymes such as catalase. Malignant cells lack these enzymes  and ozone oxidizes  the  outer layer of their cells  and  causes tumor cell destruction (lysis).  This  has  been  demonstrated  in  the prestigious Journal of Science,  Vol. 209, Aug 22, 1980. in a paper entitled “Ozone Selectively Inhibits Growth of Human Cancer Cells.”   Human lung, breast and uterine cancer cell growth was inhibited more than 90 per cent at non-toxic ozone doses.

alternative treatment for cancer

Healthy cells require oxygen to work ~ every cell is an oxygen burning machine.    Cancer cells cannot process oxygen properly,  and  starts  consuming sugar  for  energy instead.  Unhealthy cells  also  contain errant enzymes  that  will not protect them from   being oxidized. Unhealthy cells, including cancer cells are virtually defenseless to ozone. Ozone is highly effective against pathogens that thrive in low oxygen environments.

Cancer cells cannot process oxygen properly and start consuming sugar for energy instead. This is why cancer patients should avoid sugar and processed carbohydrates.

Oxygen is a cancer killer and ozone is a safe and effective way to get an abundance of oxygen to the cancer cells. Ozone diffused in the blood becomes a free radical, oxidizing wastes to facilitate their removal. In most forms of cancer there are very few cancer cells in the blood so ozone does not work primarily for blood born cancer cells but rather saturates the tissues to work in the cells of the body to treat cancer.

Check out other benefits of Ozone Therapy.

Ozone is one chemical form or “allotrop” of Oxygen. Molecular Oxygen consists of two atoms of Oxygen (O + O) forming one di-atomic molecule of Oxygen (O2). Ozone consists of three atoms of Oxygen, which form the tri-atomic molecule of Ozone (O3). While it is true that Ozone can be toxic,  it is also just as true that Ozone is essential for life on earth.  The high altitude Ozone layer, scientifically called the Ozonosphere, actually protects us from the toxic effects of cancer causing high energy ultraviolet light from the sun.
In modern society this layer is being seriously depleted due to environmental air pollution, with resultant increase in the incidence of   skin cancers, cataracts, lung diseases and immune deficiency-dysregulation diseases. Interestingly, it is because the Ozonosphere is being depleted that we are seeing more Ozone show up in air pollution closer to the ground.
The higher energy Ultraviolet sunlight passing through the now defective high altitude Ozonosphere causes atmospheric oxygen to   react with man-made nitric oxides from fossil fuels and this leads to the production of toxic levels of Ozone in the air we breathe. Thus,  the amount of Ozone in our air is actually a measure of the overall degree of other pollutants, but not really a cause of pollution in itself.
Like anything used in medicine, Ozone has both beneficial and potential toxic effects. The common question about Ozone toxicity usually has to do with inhaling excessive Ozone gas. Ozone gas is NEVER used for inhalation in medical therapy! In fact, very specific and strict avoidance of any inhalation of Ozone is practiced when Medical Ozone/Oxygen therapy is used.
In reality, when Ozone is used medically it is actually administered as a gas mixture of Ozone and Oxygen. Ozone concentrations     used  in the medical mixture  are delivered in the microgram  (Homeopathic  or thousandths of a milligram)  range,  depending on the specific clinical effect desired. Thereby, the toxicity of modern Medical Ozone therapy is usually limited to minor irritation or pain at the injection site (see below).

Medical Ozone/Oxygen gas mixture can be applied directly to the target infected tissue using a protective covering. In addition, it can be carefully mixed with a specific amount of blood previously withdrawn from the body and then re-infused (German method), injected intramuscularly or dissolved in a dextrose-in-water carrier solution and infused by intravenous feeding (Russian method).

Using either a moderate volume of the patient’s own blood  (100  to  250 cc’s  or               3 to 8 ounces)  or an intravenous feeding      of an Ozone/Oxygen infused carrier solution of dextrose-in-sterile water is referred     to as “Major Auto-Hemotherapy.” Intramuscular injection of 2 to 10 cc’s of the patient’s own blood mixed with Ozone/Oxygen is referred to a “Minor Auto-Hemotherapy.”
Medical Ozone/Oxygen therapy can also be administered by rectal insufflation or as a topical ointment in olive oil.  Each of these specific methods has it’s own proper clinical application, benefits, drawbacks and cost. The specific method of administration chosen      for any particular patient is based on the particular condition being treated, desired effects and other unique, individual factors.

                                                         HOW DOES IT WORK?

Medical Ozone directly stimulates oxidative metabolism within cells and organelles inside the cells. In addition, it directly increases the production of energy by increasing cellular ATP production by up to 40%. It also directly enhances anti-oxidant defenses, stimulates oxidative decarboxylation, improves blood lipid (cholesterol) levels, increases blood oxygen levels, improves tissue oxygen extraction, oxygen utilization and enhances oxidative detoxification of biological and chemical pollutants. Clinically Medical Ozone/Oxygen therapy has also been shown to:
  1) improve cytokine production by immune cells;
  2) disinfect and sterilize infected wounds and gangrene;
  3) improved tissue oxygenation due to the increase in 2, 3 DPG (diphosphglycerate) in red cells shifting the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve in favor of releasing the oxygen to the tissues;
  4) improve cancer immune surveillance and help with cancer (adjuvant) therapy;
  5) improve bone density in osteoporosis;
  6) stimulate cellular immune function;
  7) modulate excessive humoral (antibody) activity in rheumatic and inflammatory diseases;
    8) kill the HIV and other viruses;
    9) provide important ant-inflammatory activity;
 10) improve wound healing.
WHATABOUTSAFETYANDSIDEEFFECTS?

The safety of Medical Ozone has been studied extensively in the past ninety years by       the Germans, Russians and other European Ozone Societies. With proper training and credentials and used in appropriate conditions,  the  modern  use  of Ozone therapy is extremely safe. In the past when the gas was directly administered into a vein or artery rare cases of gas embolism or “air bubble embolus” occurred and was related to stroke, heart attack and other acute vascular accidents.
Since this method has been abandoned over the past 30 years safety of properly prepared Medical Ozone therapy has been limited to occasional temporary local vein and/or tissue irritation, reduction of blood B-vitamin levels (20%) and red blood cell hemolysis if too large a concentration is applied to extra-corporeal (outside-the-body) blood Ozonation (German method). Dr. Edwards of Bio Health Center was trained in Germany and is certified in all methods of Ozone administration, as well as being a member of the International Ozone Association (IOA).
Despite his original German training and due to the greater simplicity, ease of administration, safety and avoidance of direct exposure to blood, the Russian method        of intravenous Ozone Therapy administration  is  used  exclusively  for all major auto-hemotherapy applications at Bio Health Center. Direct application of Ozone/Oxygen gas mixtures to infected and/or poorly healing wounds, dermal application of Ozoned Olive Oil and intramuscular minor auto-hemotherapy are also regularly used on an individualized basis. Ozone is one of the major forms of Bio Oxidation therapy used by at Bio Health Center.
HOWMUCHDOESITCOST

The expense of any medical therapy usually depends more on the type of illness being treated than on the method of therapy being used. More complicated illnesses usually require more intensive and prolonged therapy than do less ill patients. In addition, in today’s legally regulated medical care system more testing is required to maintain quality and legal standards of care than in the past. In fact, much of today’s high medical costs are directly related to mandated quality and legal standards of care rather than to the actual treatment itself. Due to this, if you have specific questions or concerns about cost please discuss these with the practitioners before consenting to undergo therapy. It is the policy of Bio Health Center to discuss ALL costs of therapy before treatment with any patient who wishes such information. A listing of charges for most services, including most types of Ozone therapy, can also be obtained from the office staff, but these may not pertain to any specific patient due to individuation of patient treatment.
        DOESINSURANCECOVEROZONETHERAPY?
This really depends on the specific terms of the insurance (legal) contract. Generally, insurance companies will NOT pay for medical care which they decide to classify as not usual and customary. In addition, all managed care is just that, financially managed    to lower insurer costs! In such circumstances you must look in you “benefits” package to determine what procedures and which physicians are covered. Due to our concern over the ethics of such arrangements, Dr. Edwards and Bio Health Center do NOT participate in any managed care organizations. It should therefore be assumed  Medical Ozone Therapy will NOT be covered by private insurance or managed care programs. Check with your insurer, health benefits manager or agent for the specifics of your particular coverage plan. Medicare™ and other public entitlement programs DO NOT cover Medical Ozone therapy.

A POSSIBLE BIOCHEMICAL MECHANISM

INVOLVING CHRONIC EMOTIONAL STRESS & Breast Cancer?

If the contention emotions contribute to cancer formation is to gain acceptance outside the  field of  traditional Chinese medical practitioners,  finding a biological mechanism of action that could be measured in the short-term would be an important contribution. For example,  if  during a period of  emotional stress there  is  a  biochemical or physiological change  that  is  understood  to  contribute  to  oncogenesis  (cancer formation),  then one could reasonably contend that emotions may be causing or working with other factors to cause some cases of cancer.

One of  the biological mysteries  that  has  faced researchers  in recent years  is  the relationship of estrogen to breast cancer (see: Estrogen dependent tumors and herbs). For years,  concerns have been raised  about giving estrogen  in  hormone replacement therapy to women who were considered at risk for breast cancer due to familial history (genetic background). In fact, the familial history of breast cancer is a contraindication to using hormone replacement therapy after menopause. Based on a variety of research findings,  it  appeared  as  if  estrogen,  whether produced by the body or given as a pill, might cause the cancer,  which seems peculiar,  in that it is a normal component of  the body.

Recent findings shed light on how estrogen is involved in oncogenesis and provides a model for a possible role of emotions (this model is highly speculative at this time, and is only used as an illustration).  Estrogen  is converted  into  different metabolites  prior  to elimination.  There are two major metabolites-products  of  enzymes acting on estrogen-one of which can get to the DNA and actually induce cancer, and another which may help prevent cancer.  One might say  that  there are  “good”  and  “bad”  estrogen metabolites. It is a situation that is reminiscent of the “good” and “bad” cholesterol in relation to heart disease.  With cholesterol,  it  is  actually  the carrier molecules  that  are  different:  high density lipoproteins (HDL)  and  low density lipoproteins (LDL).  HDL  helps  to prevent heart disease,  while LDL contributes to it, because they have differing roles in transport and deposition of the cholesterol.

Researchers have found that exercise, which is a normal healthy activity, increases the HDL and decreases the LDL, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. What if emotions, perhaps certain types of  emotions (anxiety, depression)  stimulate the enzymes directing more  of  the  estrogen  to  the  “bad”  type  of  metabolite,  rather  than  the  “good”  one? This would result in increased cancer risk;  the  risk  would be substantially increased if the estrogen levels were unusually high (as when giving hormone replacement therapy), since there would be much more estrogen to be converted to the carcinogenic form.

Differences in metabolism of substances have been proposed as a basis for why some individuals develop cancer.  In  the  book:  How to Discover Cancer Through Self-Examination, an example is given:

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon is a very strong chemical carcinogen; but when it enters the human body, it will only cause cancer when functioning in the cell through the transformation of polycyclic aromatic kinase. If the content of kinase in the human body is high, it is easy to engender cancer when in contact with the chemical substance; to the contrary, the probability of cancer incidence is lower if the content of kinase is low, even if the person contacts the chemical.

Potential contributors to the level of enzymes (both those that transform chemicals into carcinogens and those that transform carcinogens into non-carcinogens) include genetic background, stimulation of the enzymes by other chemicals (e.g., alcohol and some other substances stimulate…. the  liver  to  produce  a  large  group  of  enzymes…. that  are  in substantial amount),  nutritional status  (some  enzymes  are  affected by trace elements and  vitamins  that  act  as  co-enzymes),  tissue injury (liver damage may affect enzyme production), and other factors. It is possible that stress hormones released in response to emotional changes can affect the levels of enzymes.

Certainly,  the levels of  the  estrogens  themselves vary markedly among individuals.     In a study of estriol, estrone, and estradiol at days 10-14 of the menstrual cycle in women with regular menstrual cycles, it was also found that estradiol levels were as low as 11-31 pg/ml (picograms per milliliter)  in women  with low levels but as high as 157-189 pg/ml in  those  with  high  levels.  Since  estradiol  is  currently  considered  a  major hormonal contributor to breast cancer risk, this marked variation…. shows that the factors (as yet unidentified) that influence the hormone levels can have a substantial impact.

At this time,  there is no direct evidence  that emotions cause such a shift in estrogen metabolism that might lead to higher risk of cancers, such as breast cancer. But, there is no question that emotions can impact the physiological  functions,  and this model is just one example of how they might translate into a higher cancer risk that could be detected by a properly designed study.

A POSSIBLE MECHANISM INVOLVING SHORT-TERM EMOTIONAL STRESS!!!!

The Chinese physicians who comment about the role of emotions in cancer formation point to the fact: the internal viscera become weakened, thus increasing the opportunity for pathologies of  all types,  including cancer.  Western research has already supported the idea that depression can impair immune system functions  (perhaps indirectly,  such as by repeatedly impairing a good night of sleep, with sleep contributing to maintenance of the immune system).

It has been shown that tumor-relevant lymphocyte subpopulations,  such as natural killer cells  (NK cells;  these can directly attack cancer cells),  have receptors  for various neuropeptides, including those released during stress. This finding indicates how NK cell activity  could  be  modulated  by  a  person’s  emotional responses.  The  level  of  NK cell activity  has  been  found  to  be  a  reasonably  good predictor of  breast cancer outcome; further, a portion of the loss of this activity in cancer patients was shown to be correlated with psycho-social measures such as patient  “adjustment”  (avoiding showing distress at the cancer diagnosis/treatment), lack of social support, symptoms of fatigue/depression.

Along these lines, the immune system may regulate the activities of enzymes, such as aromatase,  that  converts  estrogens  to  estradiol  in  breast tissue. Cytokine changes (as occur with infection and inflammation) have been observed in cases of major depression, and  have  been  suggested  to  be  a  potential  cause  of  depression.  In  fact,  some  anti-depressant  drugs  are  tumor  necrosis  factor  (TNF)  inhibitors;  this  being  one  of  the cytokines that causes considerable adverse effects in cancer patients and those with life-threatening infections, such as HIV.  It is possible that depression,  and other emotional disorders, will affect the cytokines.

In the book:  Why We Get Sick,  which is based on the premise that most of  our body (and mental) functions have been determined by evolutionary factors, the author explains  how a potentially helpful  feeling (anxiety)  can  have  harmful  physiological effects:

Everyone must realize that anxiety can be useful. We know what happens to the berry picker who does not flee a grizzly bear,  the fisherman who sails off  alone into a winter storm,  or  the  student  who  does  not  shift  into  high  gear  as  a  term-paper deadline approaches. In the face of threat, anxiety alters our thinking, behavior, and physiology in advantageous ways….Because anxiety can be useful, it might seem optimal to adjust the mechanism so that we are always anxious.  This would be distressing,  but natural selection cares  only about our  fitness,  not our comfort.  The reason we are sometimes calm is not because discomfort is maladaptive, but because anxiety uses extra calories, makes us less fit for many everyday activities, and damages tissues.

Why does stress damage tissues? Imagine a host of bodily responses that offer protection against danger.  Those  that  are  “inexpensive”  and  safe  can be expressed continually, however,  those that are “expensive”  or  dangerous cannot.  Instead, they are bundled into an emergency kit  that  is  opened only when the benefits of  using the tools  are likely to exceed the costs. Some components are kept sealed in the emergency kit precisely because they cause bodily damage. Thereby,  the damage associated with chronic stress should be no cause for surprise….In fact, recent work has suggested that the  “stress hormone”  cortisol.  May not defend against outside dangers at all,    but instead may mainly protect the body  from the effects of  other parts of the stress response.

Just as Chinese therapeutic dogma  holds that one can use a powerful remedy that   may weaken the individual temporarily  in order to gain  an advantage over a disease, the body also can sacrifice some of its well-being, temporarily,  to save itself.  However,    if the “emergency kit”  is left open for an extended period of time, by living in a situation that the body and mind deems unsafe, then progressive damage to the tissues can occur. This damage may then cause  or  exacerbate chronic disease  or a life-threatening event (e.g., stroke, heart attack, incurable cancer).

Indeed, it is possible that even a single period of intense stress lasting months, such as occurs with a divorce, death of a family member, loss of job, or other life-changing event, rather than decades of  habitual emotional distress,  might lead to serious damage to the tissues  which  could  trigger  the  development  of  cancer.   The  stress  hormones  might themselves  stimulate  latent  cancer  cells  into  reproduction;  thus  hormones  or  their metabolites might transform a normal cell to a cancer cell; or the damage to the tissues may lead to failure of normal cancer-control mechanisms.

In this way,  a diagnosis of  cancer may be encountered a year or two after such an event (it takes that long for the cancer to develop enough to yield evident symptoms or a diagnosable lump).  Such a correlation — between stressful events and subsequent cancer diagnosis (13) or recurrence of  previously treated breast cancer (15)-has been supported by early studies that still require replication. If severe emotional stress (of the type that is likely to be mentioned during questioning) does sometimes give  rise to cancer soon after the  stress  is  experienced,  this  would  certainly explain “why” the observation made by traditional practitioners:  that  emotions  do  play  a  part  and  are  a  cause  of  cancer.    CreditGoesTo ~ ForThisBlog: http://www.itmonline.org/arts/cancemo.htm

LIVE WHILE YOU’RE LIVING

I managed to take the tree down today, and packed away all the ornaments.                         I rearranged the living room a bit, as much as I could.  Then I cried and cried.                    I don’t know  if  it’s  the stress with things going on with the kids,  or  if  it’s the feelings/thoughts that I won’t make it another year.  When I went upstairs my grandson,  Landon came running to me and said ” Mimi! I love you!”, and was    grinning ear to ear.  I came back downstairs a bit later and cried my eyes out.               This is one tough ass road to travel.  God give me the strength to live,  dying is                  the easy part… Believe in Forever…

I remember when my mom had cancer  and  she was living with me.  She would stay            in the bed all day just taking pain meds,  sleeping pills,  etc.  One afternoon after I got    home from work, I had a talk with her.  I told her, “mom,  you can’t just stay in the bed      all  the  time  waiting  to  die.”  I said,  “you  have  to  live  while  you’re  living.  So,  each morning you need to get up,  have your orange juice and coffee, get dressed, do you hair and be ready for the day.” So, that’s what she started doing.  We have to live while we’re living. I think I’ll print that out and tape it above my coffee pot… tomorrow I think I will get out of the house.  I HOPE the sun is shining!!!   ~ Cheri H. ~ 🙂

Despite large — scale investment  and decades of research and clinical application, conventional cancer treatment protocols (that include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery) have failed  to  yield significant results  in  the  battle against cancer. Cancer statistics have been used throughout to represent the successes  and  failures to date     with the purpose of highlighting the need for change.  With some of the downfalls of conventional approaches include induction of toxicity, with suppression of  immune response, triggering of cancer resistance, and numerous other side effects.

These toxic treatments are capable of causing physical damage at the cellular, tissue,      and  organ levels.  In  many cases,  these  treatments,  are  at  best,  given not for their curative but for their palliative effects. However, when someone gains a life advantage       of getting a qualified naturopathic oncologist  on their team it can be a day  and night difference between life or death.

Michael McEvoy FDN, CNC, CMTA discusses his Metabolic Healing Health Screening Package. Michael McEvoy has spent years studying blood chemistry, hair tissue mineral analysis,  Metabolic Typing,  functional lab  testing  and  individualized nutrition. While having  extensive  experience  working  with  complex  health  issues.  He  is  the  “go to” practitioner  for understanding how nutrition  can serve as a powerful tool for restoring  and optimizing health, regardless of your health issues.

The Health Screening Packages is a comprehensive way to create a powerful and individualized nutritional protocol to help you attain a high level of health as quickly        as possible.  This includes individualized diet,  supplementation, detoxification, and lifestyle factors. These comprehensive group of three tests are effective at evaluating: adrenal  and  thyroid activity,  blood sugar,  liver function,  digestion,  and GI health, immunity, metabolism, metabolic type, nutrient deficiencies, toxic metals, and much more.

In that context,  we  discuss  here  the relevance of embracing non–toxic,  alternative       cancer treatments  that  are  effective  and  do not  harm the body.  The philosophy that    forms  the foundation  for alternative cancer treatment approaches is discussed in detail, including the Seven Key Principles of Cancer Therapy and these principles define an  alternative cancer treatment protocol that includes  1. the fundamental elements that sustain health:  2. the absence of toxins,  3. a well-tuned immune system,  4. appropriate levels  of  oxygenation,  5. optimal  nutritional  status,  6. the suppression  of  pathogenic elements, and 7. the maintenance of mental and spiritual integrities. Healing the disease and ignoring the body does not work for cancer treatment.

The sono-photo dynamic therapy (SPDT) method is described,  and also highlighting its mechanism of action.  SPDT is a method in which specific sound and light wavelengths are used to activate a porphyrin — like sensitizer that absorbs selectively into cancer cells.  The generated reactive oxygen species (ROS)  destroys the tumor cell,  also damages the tumor vasculature,  and  induce  an inflammatory response  that  recruits  the cancer–suppressed immune system. Here, the utilization of this method, along with the other Seven Principles of  Cancer Therapy  is  illustrated,  with chosen case studies  that  demonstrate the value of treating patients with alternative cancer treatments.

Ozone therapy increases the body’s ability to produce oxygen. The increase in oxygen increases  the body’s capability  of destroying cancer cells.  Cancer cells die when exposed   to oxygen.  Ozone is an oxidant  and  provokes  a natural antioxidant  effect  that prepares the body for oxidant therapies and reduces the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.  The oxidation  also unleashes  a beneficial immune chain reaction in favor of the patient.

Increasing the partial pressure of oxygen in tumors may in fact reduce the formation of new blood vessels,  a process  that  is  called  angiogenesis.  This can result in a significant slowing of tumor growth.  Remember,  tumors feed  on blood vessels.  Thus, anything that reduces  the  formation  of  blood vessels  helps  to  restrain  tumor growth.  Ozone therapy using an infusion bottle involves removing part of the blood from the body, saturating this blood with oxygen (i.e. ozone – O3), then putting this oxygen rich blood back into the body. Intravenous Ozone  simply injects  a fluid saturated  with  ozone into the blood.  With both treatments working by generating oxygen into the body. There are many oxygen and ozone treatments.  Please schedule a consultation with Dr. Neil Raff at Advanced Medicine of Mt. Kisco.

Technically speaking, food grade hydrogen peroxide range from 8 to 35 percent solutions – which shouldn’t be confused with your typical drugstore varieties that get diluted down to about 3.5 percent.

Can food grade hydrogen peroxide help cancer patitents?

One of the most exciting potential uses for hydrogen peroxide, as well as one of the      most controversial,  involves its use as a cancer therapy.  While  hydrogen peroxide has     not been recognized as a cancer treatment by mainstream medical profession, there are alternative cancer treatment centers where it is being used.

The science behind its use stems from the fact cancer cells behave in a similar fashion to (most) unwanted pathogens. They prefer consistently acidic environments of low oxygen and plenty of simple sugars. If the biological terrain is rich in oxygen and surrounded by plenty of antioxidants, cancer cells tend to have a poor survival rate.

How does hydrogen peroxide kill infections?

To understand why this occurs, it’s helpful to know that hydrogen peroxide is labeled as “singlet oxygen therapy,” meaning that when it comes into contact with other substances, it release a single atom of oxygen as a part of an oxidation reaction. Once this occurs, the remaining hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water or H2O – since it is now left with only a single oxygen atom for every two hydrogen atoms.

However, that’s not all that is going on during the oxidative reaction. Once that singlet oxygen atom has been released  and  is roaming around the body,  it  remains  extremely reactive, oxidizing or reducing the molecular structures of a range of contaminants, such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, as well as attacking foreign proteins and parasites.

Best of all, hydrogen peroxide also has the ability to target diseased tissues.

What do cancer experts say about hydrogen peroxide?

It’s easy to understand why many believe food-grade hydrogen peroxide has a place in cancer treatment. In fact, some experts, like R. Webster Kehr, a researcher for the Independent Cancer Research Foundation goes so far as to say that food-grade hydrogen peroxide may kill cancer cells.

His conclusion is also based on the fact that cancer cells tend to multiply when little oxygen is available, but when exposed to oxygen repeatedly, the expansion of new cells is greatly hindered and the cells may even die, since it appears that cancer cells do not have the ability to break down the oxygen atoms in hydrogen peroxide.

One word of caution:  do not try to self-medicate with hydrogen peroxide if you are         a cancer patient. Doing so can lead to great harm or even death. Discuss the potential of incorporating hydrogen peroxide therapy into your cancer treatment with your primary doctor or cancer care specialist.

Hydrogen peroxide improves lung function

Just as it has been used to treat mild infections in the body, there is some evidence that highly diluted, food-grade hydrogen peroxide can also be used to break up mucous in the lungs and reduce some of the symptoms of emphysema.

Just an ounce of 35 percent concentrated hydrogen peroxide in a gallon of unchlorinated water can be used in a vaporizer every night. Hydrogen peroxide may also be administered intravenously. Before using hydrogen peroxide, discuss its use and your emphysema symptoms with your physician.

Is hydrogen peroxide useful in any other conditions?

Food-grade hydrogen peroxide therapy has also been used to treat other conditions, particularly those related to a lack of adequate oxygen reaching cells, such as asthma         & allergies,  as well as a laundry list of other ailments including diabetes, Alzheimer’s      and cardiovascular disease.

While most scientific research is also lacking in the treatment of these ailments with hydrogen peroxide therapy,  the ability of food — grade hydrogen peroxide to improve oxygen levels — at  the  cellular  level – provide some basis for proving such treatment     may indeed work.

Screw Letting Go

That is old paradigm thinking!!!

How many times have you heard someone tell you “You just need to let           it go?”  This is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard.  I used to believe people when they would say this to me, to the point I would be on   my knees crying and also begging the Universe … to show me what I was supposed to let go of.

Let others beliefs persuade me into thinking I was not good enough, not whole, something must be wrong with me. That’s when I started searching into past lives, this life, going through my emotions with a fine tooth comb.  One day I got so mad at this person  I said  “Let what F’in go?”  Just tell me what  I need to shed  and  I will do it.  There  in  lies  the  issue  in  that  last sentence, it was right in  front of  me.

My whole way of life was to accomplish, tick off lists, prove something to myself.  It was no different with the sacred illness I was given.  For the first two years I treated myself like a business, a business of  forcing this illness  to vanish instead of  looking for the experiences within it.

I never really saw what this was doing to me, to the people around me.         I was that person …. that was in the river clinging to that boulder scared      to death to lose control  and just  flow with what life had in store  for me.  This is true of any circumstance in life,  not just illness.  Can you relate?

Five things I have learned through not letting go:

  1.  When someone has an issue, life threatening or not never tell them to just “let it go”.  It implies that we have shit to let go of and can make you crazy stressed trying to find out what that shit is.  Or it can make you feel like what you are feeling is not worthy of feeling.
  2. That shit people say you need to let go of is an illusion.  The very experiences that happen to us are for our souls evolution.  That shit that happened or is happening is there for you to grow.
  3. The best thing you can do when going through a crisis is to acknowledge that it is happening.  Do not stuff it down and pretend like it is not happening.  Sit with your emotions and allow them to teach you what you need at this time.
  4. Love yourself, your heart even more.  Love the one who is hurt, feeling pain, anxiety, shame, doubt, grief, fear or sadness.  It is through the love for yourself that wounds begin to heal.
  5. Live in the present moment by bringing your attention back to the breath.  The breath is our life and being conscious of it will guide you through any crisis you will encounter on your journey.

These are some of the tools that I use when coaching/counseling my clients, that are very effective.

When you want to tell someone to just let it go, think twice about that statement.              By speaking those 3 words to someone who is very vulnerable you could do them          more harm than good.

This is a guided meditation to help the listener experience a quiet mind and a sense of peace within. You will achieve a relaxed body and focused state, once in this focused state your subconscious mind is guided into “Letting Go”. The purpose of this exercise is to aid in your minds ability to  “Let Go”  of the thoughts that are not serving you.  With practice and  repetition you can train your mind to automatically let go of the thoughts that upset you, or cause you to feel anxiety or unbalanced. This meditation will help you obtain this ability.

It is recommended  that  you  also  listen to this meditation once a day for several weeks. Depending on how your mind is when you begin the process, determines how long or how much  you need to practice,  the process is different for everyone.  It is  recommended that you listen to this when you are having a difficult time letting go of something, to help your mind to create a different path of response.  In order,  to get the best results you must also participate, do not just put this on and go to sleep, as you choose to stay with my voice and my suggestions, you are gaining greater control of your mind.
