Chronic Inflammation

Over  and over  and over again  chronic inflammation  comes up in conversation  when I talk to other people ~ when it comes to preventing cancer.  When I begin to investigate what I learn  from  other  people on         the internet and read articles like this one. According to scientist at the Massachussetts  Institute  of  Technology, chronic inflammation having    been linked to DNA damage and increased cancer risk.

Chronic Inflammation  can  be caused by many  factors, including infectious agents such as Helicobacter Pylori  and  Hepatitis C, which         are already known to increase cancer risk  in  the  stomach  and  liver respectively.   The  inflammatory  response  produces  cytokines,  and   chemicals in the immune response  that  encourages cell proliferation        and suppress apoptosis, which  can  also  contribute  to  an  increased  cancer risk.      Use Vinegar ~ NOT Roundup!!!

In  most  normal situations,  damaged  induced  DNA  during  the  inflammatory response  is corrected  by  the cells internal error repair  system. However,  if this is not  functioning properly, there is a higher chance mutation will occur,  increasing  risk  of  cancer.  Knowing  the connection between these  factors  and  cancer  can help doctors better   guide patients who might be at risk of inflammation induced cancers.

In a study collaborated with James Fox, Director of  Comparative    Medicine at M.I.T., and one of  his students.  Chung – Wei Lee induced        mice with infected H. pylori and those lacking the proper DNA repair mechanism.  Were more likely  to have pre – cancerous regions in the stomach.  These results indicate that individuals who are less able to  perform DNA damage with chronic inflammation.

Such as patients  with ulcerative colitis,  are more susceptible to          cancer than others,  according to Lisiane Meira research scientist at          M.I.T.  However,  there is another effect of  inflammation that might influence this — during inflammatory response to infection. Immune         cells like macrophages and neutrophils excrete oxygen and nitrogen    species that might damage DNA.

Still  yet another  for  instance  where  a  traumatic  experience  to            your body to initiate  an inflammatory response  would be running  a marathon  as a repair mechanism.  Dr.  Arthur Siege MD., Director of  Internal medicine at Harvard’s Hospital in Belmont, Massachusettes     states, as  the  miles  pass  skeletal  muscles  stiffen  and  leak,  injury signaling enzymes into the blood.

With your body not knowing if you ran a marathon or got ran over              by a reindeer.  It reacts to injury  by  mounting  an emergency  repair response.  Your adrenal glands and brain produce the stress hormone cortisol  and  vasopressin;  your damage muscles  churn out  proteins     called cytokines…. which will trigger  your  liver  to  start  producing C-Reactive Protein.    Hitting The Wall It’s Called!!!

The  results  is  what  Dr.  Siege  calls,   “an inflammatory storm”           where throughout your body that sets the stage  for some potentially    adverse consequences.  Early on, marathoners weren’t sure “if ”  the       heart  was amongst the muscles being stressed.  However  in  recent       years they’ve confirmed that it most definitely is.

In 2001,  study published in the American Journal of  Cardiology,             Dr.  Siege  and  his colleagues analyzed the blood of  marathoners less       than 24 hours after a race and found high levels of inflammatory and coagulation markers that are also associated with heart attacks. Then   came  a  2006 Circulation Study, using ultra sound  and  the blood test         of  60 marathon  finishers.

The researchers found after a race some runners hearts experience difficulty refilling chambers.  The researchers  also  noticed  abnormal  blood pump  from the right side  of  the  heart to the lungs.  This  study   found  people who’d average  at least  45 miles a week in training were significantly less likely  to suffer heart damage  than  those  averaging          35 miles a week or less.

This  makes  sense  to  Dr.   Siege:  your body suffers damage when           you exert  yourself  during training,  however,  then repairs itself  and  becomes stronger for it (No Pain ~ No Gain.)  During the race and  for several hours  afterward,  the  “systemic inflammation”  significantly increases your risk of a cardiac event particularly if  your middle age         and have silent coronary artery disease.

Two Things Happen:  1.  inflammatory mediators released during     muscle injury may make them thin and the fibrous plaque lining your artery walls may rupture.   2.  inflammation can lead to an imbalance          of  coagulation factors making blood more susceptible to clotting and        The Result:   A  HEART  ATTACK!!!   and back pain?

The  beneficial healing affect  of  Aloe Vera Juice  (plant)  makes it                one  of  the  most  miraculous herbs  while  it  seem mythical in nature.     John P. Heggers,  PH.D. of  the University of  Texas School of  Medicine states,  Aloe Vera boost immune  function  and  destroys cancer tumors because  of   it’s   strong  immuno – modulatory,   anti – inflammatory,        anti- bacterial  and  anti – viral actions.    (Certified Brands!!!)

A Year Long Ohio Cancer Study

Being Diehard Buckeye: I  find results of  this Ohio Study intriguing with    a series of maps showing the counties  with  the  highest  rates  of  cancer…. Ohio  State  graduate  –  school  research  associate  Jesse  Plascak  looked  at 11  years  of  cancer incident rates  in  each  of  the  states 88 counties.  While concluding  with maps detailing  the 23 types of  cancer  and  improving the type of  cancer care you receive in Ohio.

If  you  look  at  each  individual  map  it  tells  it’s  own  precise  story: Prostate Cancer showing prominence  in Ohio Three major urban area’s of Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland.  Whereas the map of  Cervical Cancer illustrated a higher rate in the Appalachian region, Bladder Cancer having high rates  in the Northeastern portion of  the state  and  lung cancer in the Southeastern area along the Ohio River and Holmes County having lowest rates of  cancer in the state.

Pediatricians in Appalachia  are  less  likely  to  recommend  the Human  Papillomavirus  (HPV)  vaccine to their patients in an area where it’s need is the most.  Through a mail survey of  334 pediatricians  in West Virginia  and Kentucky, the research found that women in Appalachia having 47.1 percent greater  cervical  cancer  mortality  rates  than  those  women  living  in non- Appalachia Ohio.

Dr.  Elise Berlan   a pediatrician specializing  in adolescent medicine at  Nationwide  Children’s  Hospital  recommends  the HPV vaccine  to all her patients, both male and  female starting at age 11.  What is know is that the vaccine is  very effective against  the  6  and  11 HPV  which  causes  gential warts, and also against  16  and 18  which causes cervical dysplasia that is the precursor to cervical cancer.

With area’s  of  long standing industry  concern  seemingly  associated with  bladder  cancer  risk,  there’s  something  in  the chemicals  and  brain cancer having a checkered board of sort conclusion showing no geographic trends  or  patterns.  Dr.  Steven K. Clinton,  an Ohio State oncologist whom specializes in prostate and urinary cancer.  Dr.  Clinton states,  “when you know the cause you can prevent the disease.”  This study helps explore the possible geographic  factors, environmental issues, eating habitsobesity,    smoking tobacco, alcohol consumption, handles stress and  water quality.

Imbalances of the Human Anatomy

AS you read through the archives of  this website often you will read   about the importance of vitamins, minerals and macronutrients. But for some reason I neglected to inform the visitants of  the importance of  the other chemicals in the body that regulate important bodily  functions as well.  Your body’s nerve reactions  and  muscle  functions are dependent  upon  the  proper exchange  of  electrolyte ion’s outside  and  inside your cells (a.k.a.  calcium,  magnesium,  potassium  and  sodium.)

There are many causes of  electrolyte imbalances:  loss of  body  fluid      from prolong vomitting,  diarrhea, sweating or high  fever.  Inadequate         diet  and  lack of  vitamins  from  food  or malabsorption due to a variety       of stomach disorders, medications or how  food is digested. Also it could      be a complication  from hormonal or endocrine disorders.

Another possibility is a complication arriving from chemotherapy is   tumor lysis syndrome, being an interaction of the cancer and treatment.  This  occurs  when  your  body  breaks  down  tumor  cells  rapidly  after chemotherapy, causing a low blood calcium level, high blood potassium  level  and  other electrolyte imbalances. With other medications causing     an electrolyte imbalance being diuretics, antibotics and corticosteroids.

An electrolyte imbalance  may  create  a number of  symtoms,  if  your    blood test results indicate an  altered potassium  &  sodiummagnesium,       or calcium factor — you  may  experience  muscle  spasms,  weakness, and  twitching or convulsions. While blood levels showing low levels may lead    to  irregular  heartbeat,  convulsions,  blood  pressure  changes,  nervous system or bone disorders.

And Blood levels  that are to high may lead to weakness,  or twitching          of the muscles, numbness, fatigue, irregular heartbeat and blood pressure changes.  A minor electrolyte imbalance  may be  corrected by diet change,  for example  eating  a diet rich in potassium,  calcium  and  magnesium  or by restricting water intake if  your blood levels are low in sodium.

Similarly,  Dr. Harvey Risch of  Yale University  and his colleagues at      the University of Toronto;  authored a study on estrogen imbalance  and  determined. For every 10 grams of saturated,  or animal  fat a women ate  per day, their risk of ovarian cancer rose 20 percent. Conversely, women who lowered their saturated  fat consumption by 10 grams a day reduced their  risk  20 percent  (the North American women consumes on average    30 grams of  saturated  fat per day.)

Nobody  knows exactly  “why”  saturated  fat  would affect  a hormone caused  cancer.  However,   Dr. Risch  has  a  theory  including  animal  fat may contain estrogen  or increase a womens natural production. Whereas when a women eats a plant based phytoestrogen, it may signal the ovaries to slow estrogen production  and  the  fiber in the plant may bind estrogen. So that it is eliminated instead of  being continually circulated throughout the body.

Some  health  food  guru’s  will lead you believe yet another important  imbalance  is  faulty  enzymatic  reaction  as  we  age.   Systematic  enzyme therapy  may  indeed  be the  answer  for  your  health  whoas.   Being  their  is  differences between proteolytic enzymes  and  digestive enzymes.  These systematic enzymes are something that you can take on an empty stomach so they   freely enter into the bloodstream.

Once there,  they dismantle problem proteins  that  are  involved in your immune system’s  inflammation  process.  In  general,  proteolytic  enzymes  have  been  found  to clear  the  harmful immune complexes  that  form  as  a  result of antibody reactions.   Therefore:    1. they regulate cytokine activity  and help clear inflammatory cytokines.   2. enhance the clearance of damage protein,  remove  fibrin  and  their  fragments  found  in  the  blood  during   inflammation.    3.   reduce  advance  glycation  end – product  (AGEs)  and  their receptor cells.   4. improve white blood cells to fight off infections.

With  all  the  Imbalances:  one can be presented in your body and with   the  NEW  allegations  surrounding  baseball  concerning a test positive list of  baseball players swirling  about  using  performance – enhancing drugs.  My question is it really worth ruining ones health showcasing to our youth a  negative example  for them to  follow.  Back in the day  when  seven- time  Tour de France winner Lance Armstong caught Americans Admiration.

The  very  thought  of   “illegal enhancer,”  was  from my mind  as  I  was     taken in by his feat. That substances called steroids, testosterone, cortisone,  growth hormones and EPO [an illegal performance enhancer] played a part. After all,  both endogenous and exogenous hormone are know to be involved in  the development of  various cancers. While  before  his  death  with  brain cancer  May 14, 1992  that Lyle Alzado  admitted he believed his disease was a result of  more than two decades of  steroid  and  HGH use.

Reducing Cancer Rates 90%

According to research released by the World Cancer Research Fund  (W.C.R.F.simple changes in diet and exercise can prevent 40 percent          of  breast cancer  and  pancreatic cancers,  36 percent of  lung cancers,      over  60 percent of  oral cancers,  25 percent of  kidney cancer and 45% bowel cancers.  Remarkably these results  were achieved  without any mention of  the importance of vitamin D.

At  the  same time of  getting regular exercise you can achieve your  vitamin D  by riding a bicycle,  swimming  or through aerobic walking         in the sun’s energy.  This energy you receive through the sun can bring     you an abundance of  health benefits.  Also by adding vitamin D which      has  demostrated to prevent  an astonishing  77 percent  of  all  cancers       and all these  facts would prevent 90 percent of  all cancer cases.

What this report didn’t mention was by eliminating cancer causing chemicals  from  the  diet.   Along with avoiding chemicals in personal       care  products  and  mammograms  in  favor of  breast  thermography, which  offers  accurate detection  without  the dangerous radiation. If        you take  lifestyle changes into account,  while becoming  more active        and  knowledgable  of  preventive  nutrition  ~  achieving  90 percent reduction in overall caner rates is quite achievable.

Because some cancers  have a genetic link  roughly only about  8%               of  all cancers  which  usually occur in younger patients.  Therefore if         you have a  family member whom battled cancer  doesn’t necessarily      state  you  will.  Actually  it’s  estimated  only   5  to  10 percent  of  all    cancers might be attributed to genetic predisposition.  Thereby, even               a  women  whose  mother  and  grandmother  had  breast  cancer  can    reduce their risk simply by changing lifestyle choices.

Throughout  the world  industralized countries  have  the  highest      cancer mortality rates.  With  13  European  countries,  United States, Canada,  Australia  and  New Zealand  amongst  the  Top 16 countries          for overall cancer rates.  Due in part  to  better diagnostics,  however,            in wealthier populations  which  have  a tendency  to  be  more  obese,    consume more alcohol, smoke more cigarettes and get less exercise.

When  you  exercise,  you  naturally  raise  your  body temperature           and  this  is  the reason you sweat.  By raising your body temperature  through  this  sweat  you  rid your body  of  any  toxin build up.  Which might  explain why more  and  more people today inflicted with cancer because they spend alot of  time in air conditioning as we age.  Also by   raising your body temperature  using  alot of  energy  during exercise,       you actually give your body and mind more energy.

During the day you will be more productive and at night when your       body cools down  you  will  sleep better.  Also with exercise  long being    known to effect your immune system, exercising regularly at moderate intensity  for  periods of  up to a hour @ day.  It’s  long been known  the   number of immune cells circulating in the blood increases furthermore       the effectiveness  of  those cells  heighten, leading  to a greater immune system killing ability.        So Thrive Forward!!!!

Another benefit of  exercise being it has numerous effects that assist          the  heart  and  circulation  as  well.  These  benefits  include  improving cholesterol and fat levels, reducing inflammation in the arteries, aiding weight loss  and  helping to keep blood vessels  flexible and open.  While   also helping  to strengthen the heart muscle — so the heart doesn’t have         to  work  as hard,  thereby,  lowering blood pressure (sedentary people    have a  35%  greater risk of  developing high blood pressure.)

People are usually healthier, in general, when they are surrounded            by nature, aberrant magnetic  fields, however, are dangerous. Thereby  Geopathic Stress Zones  are  caused  by electromagnetic  fluctations  or  abnormal earth  fields.  Researchers in Germany have been shown that living  in such zones…. is linked to higher than normal rates of  cancer.           I  feel the sun’s  energy  and  regular exercise  gets your body back into   synch of  healthy living through the adverse affects of  life.

Contrasting Lifestyle

When I look back through the archives of this website it proves really interesting.  Indeed most of  the blog post are informative  and insightful     to cancer awareness,  prevention  through  nutrition  and  exercise.  Also over the course of  the last several months,  sprinkled  within are many a story of  successful cancer survivors  whom produced long term survival through knowledge, mindset and being courageous in their fight finding their own answers to cancer through perseverance.

Some of the highlights of the website are Chris Wark,  Kris Carr  and        Dr. Carl O. Helvie  and  how they passed  upon the  traditional same ole ~ same old of conventional medicine.  What irritates me mostly about how   we battle cancer in the States,  is “why” we aren’t coached about options that  work  and  don’t  work  from  the  solid  evidence  that  is  out  there. Hopefully,  what this website  provides with the information  that’s  in it       is solid reference to the visitants that enter into it!!!

This website…. isn’t about prescribing a toxic pill with side effects or     even a supplement  that one doesn’t take long enough  to work.  What it  does is showcase what had worked for someone else in the past with an alternative or option you can turn to in moments of need. Solitarius.org   will also take you to far away places showing the contrasting lifestyles     my  first stop in June  will be to India’s Lifestyle & Culture/spices.

One of  the  first contrasting lifestyle changes  between Punjab shows             a high cunsumption of  “chapatis” as a staple  food. Closely related to a grain,  chapatis  a  bread  is  prepared  with  a variety  of  flours such as wheat,  rice,  maida,  besan et… cetera.  Whereas in Kashmir mostly all   dishes  are  prepared  around  a  main  course  of  rice  and  ‘Saag’   that          is prepared with  a green leafy vegetable  known as  ‘Hak’.

In the Punjab Agricultural Belt of  India comes to you a cancer crisis.       Dr.  Manjeet S. Jaura,  Senior  Oncologist  at  Faridkot  Medical  College receives a staggering  30  to  35  new cancer cases daily at this National Cancer Control Programme in Faridkot. While rates of cancer deaths in India are 40%  lower in adult men and  30% lower in women than in the  United States.

There is  definitely  an increased  prevalence of  cancer  in the Punjab agricultural region of India. Where on average 70 to 100 cancer patients wait on a platform in a station for The Cancer Train to Faridkot Medical College daily.  The cancer inflicted on this train  are small  farmers  from       a district south of  the Sutly River in Punjab: Bathinda,  Moga,  Mukstar, Ferozepur,  Sangrur, Patiala  and  Mansa.

Known together as the Malwa region,  farmers  and  families here are grappling with cancer and health issues that have crept into their homes through their backdoor.  Where  within  their  fields  hide  a scary tale of  realism,  farmers live in a disturbing cesspool of  toxicity, resulting from excessive  and  unregulated  use  of   pesticides  and  chemical  fertilizers.     Add  to the recipe of  contaminated water with heavy metal toxicity and  you have a lethal cocktail.

Every village  with a population  of  3,000  to  5,ooo  people having at    least  30 cancer  patients  in  that  same  time  frame.  Consider this also:   the government registry  for 2004 – 2005  found cancer prevalence rates      of 68  to 115  per 100,000/male and 92 to 116.5 per 100,000/female (with oesophageal,  lymphoma  and  luekaemia,  also uterine  &  breast cancer  prevalent in women.)

Even with these adverse conditions…. influencing  the  cancer rates                 of this region.  The  foremention rates  pale in comparsion to our here in      the United States (even in the agricultural areas of our country.) Telling     me that  pesticides and chemicals may not play  as important  factor as      we think.  India had over  500,000 cancer deaths  in 2011  with  a robust population  of  1.22  billion  people  and  65%  of  that  population  below      the age of 35 years old.

Considering here in the United States where our cancer prevalence       rates are 300+ per 100,000 where are we going wrong.  Some experts    state  it  could  possibly  be  our Western Diet  or  a  result  of  an  aging consensus.  While  others state we might not be as health conscious as        our  India counterpart, a  place  whom realizes no one is going to take      care of  them and  prepare  for the worse. India has a poor health care system made worst by unaffordable medical insurance…. with only a     miniscule of their population being able to afford medical care.

Dr. Carl O. Helvie R.N., PH.

Being the  last day  of  May while going through my normal daily routine  of  gathering  facts  for  this  website.  My one  friend insinuated that you can get in alot of trouble mixing medicines.  I agree,  however,  when  it  comes to fighting cancer with chemotherapy you either believe  or  you don’t –  for  it’s damn if  you do or damn if  you don’t.  This is the reason  for no other reason I would consider the alternative before consenting to endure several rounds of chemotherapy.

It takes  finding the right coaches to win in anything you set out to do and winning a battle with cancer is the same way.  One  shining  example  of  this winning  mindset  would  be  Dr. Carl O.  Helvie  from  Hampton, Virginia.  A registered nurse with  a masters in public health  focusing on wellness  from the University of  California,  and  a  second masters degree  in public health and wellness  from John Hopkins University. With also a doctorate in public health  and  wellness  (John Hopkins University and  post doctorate study in the Divinity School at Duke University.)    www.lungevity.org

Being 80 years old presently he has  NO  chronic diseases  and  prescibed  medications, putting this  fact into context research shows 89% of all people over  age  65  have  chronic  illnesses  and  prescribed  medications. With the average 75 year old  having 3 chronic illnesses and 5 prescibed medications. Given 6 months to  live back in 1975   Dr. Carl Helvie  refused  the  toxicity of  chemotherapy, thereby, sought the use of  natural methods to heal himself

Today  38 years later,  Dr. Carl  is  believed  to  be  the  longest lived lung cancer survivor in the country. This is an awesome testimony to the power of  nutrition  and  natural therapies  for long term healing.  Dr. Carl Helvie  is the author of  two well  known comprehensive books  that  are available: You Can Beat Lung Cancer:  Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions & Healthy Holistic Aging,  being  Host to the Holistic Health Show  which  he spells out his success  formula  while still leading a vibrant life.

The Liver Cleansing Cancer Effect

Yesterday when I went into town I had an interesting conversation with  the towns pharmacist about preventing disease. He told me that his number one belief  was protecting the liver and all it’s  bodily  function over the long haul is vitally important. Through the use of  1000mg  of  Milk Thistle daily, which Milk Thistle is proven to work better than Dandelion Root  producing longevity and could possibly  protect the liver from alcoholism, disease and chemotherapy treatments.

The liver  an amazing organ in the body and probably most important, receives  25%  of  the blood  that  the heart pumps  with each beat  and  holds about one pint (13 percent) of  the body’s blood supply at any given moment. The liver performs many  functions all at once while being necessary to keep a  person well and alive. The liver makes necessary proteins in the body and this  function is called  the livers “synthetic function,”  which  many patients with liver disease have normal  function until the disease worsens.

The liver makes coagulation factors,  proteins  that help the blood clot to protect us  from bleeding.  A blood test that measures blood clotting is called PT/PTT or  pro-time (sometimes also referred to as INR.)  When  the  liver  is failing it can not make clotting  factors and the pro-time is abnormally high. With another protein that the liver makes being called albumin, this protein helps to keep  fluids in the blood stream while preventing  fluid retention  or swelling.

The Chinese consider the liver, General of the Army of the Bodies Working   Parts,  for when  it’s not  performing  properly  something  will  malfunction. When  the  liver  doesn’t  function  properly  the  albumin  will  be  low,  while other conditions such as malnutrition or loss of albumin in the stool or urine can also make the albumin lower (a vicious cycle of  health issues.)  The liver also makes bile which helps us –  absorb  food while eliminating toxins.

Bile salts which comes  from the liver  and  are dumped into the intestine  via  the  bile  duct,  helps  us  absorb  fat  in  our  diet.  When  the  liver  is  not functioning well… bile may not be made  or  pumped out adequately.  One of these substances  that  bile carries out of  the body is called bilirubin.  Which bilirubin comes  from broken down red blood cells and recycle about once in 90 days.  Patients with poor liver  function or with blockage to bile  flow can  not get rid of  bilirubin, therefore builds up in the blood stream.

One of the livers most important  functions is to detoxify the blood  from   foreign intruders. When the liver receives blood from the intestine, not only, will  it  be  full  of  nutrients,  but also,  toxins  and other  che, so beingmicals  the  liver must  filter before it enters the body’s circulation. In patients with poor liver function,  Ammonia  which is a by product of  protein metabolism, may also, accumulate while other chemicals we are unable to identify build up as well.

Cirrhosis of the liver is a chronic liver disease where much of the normal   liver is replaced by fibrous & scar tissue, along with nodules of  regenerated liver cells.  Cirrhosis can be caused  by many different conditions,  including alcohol abuse, but certainly not every case of cirrhosis  is caused by alcohol. The most common causes of  cirrhosis in the United States  and Canada now are hepatitis C, alcohol abuse and fatty liver.

All  kinds  of  cirrhosis  are  worsened  by exposure  to alcohol,  however,  in obese the rate of  nonalcoholic  fatty liver disease ranges  from 50 percent to  90 percent.  Only about  5 percent of  people with  fatty liver disease go on to develope cirrhosis.  Even a  5 percent to 10 percent loss of body weight can prevent  progression,  however,   once  cirrhosis  has  set  in,  it  usually  isn’t curable.

Nonalcoholic  fatty liver disease is commonly, but not always, caused by  being overweight. Especially extra weight in the abdomen and area I’m now working on  (as opposed to hips and thighs),  with prediabetes  and diabetes. However,  there  are other real causes,  such  as  sleep  apnea  and  untreated hypothyroidism.  Your doctor can periodically look at your liver to evaluate precursors of liver cancer and bleeding to the esophagus,  both of  which are complications of cirrhosis.

Routine Exercise for Strong Immunity

It’s far better to exercise three times daily when you have time 20 to 40 minutes than enduring 1 1/2 hour of  strenous activity  and  here is “why?” There are somethings that seem to protect us  from catching colds and  flu.  During moderate exercise immune cells circulate through your body more quickly,  thereby,  moderate exercise has been linked to a positive immune system response and  temporary boost in the production of macrophages, the cells that attack bacteria.

According  to  professor Dr. David Nieman, PHD.,  of   Applachian State  when  moderate  exercise  is  repeated  on  a  routine daily  basis.  There is a  cumulative effect leading to a long term immune response  and his research  showed those whom walk at 70 – 75 percent of their VO2 Max for 40 minutes per day. Ended up  having  half  as  many  sick days…. due  to  colds  or  sore throats as those who don’t exercise.

However, evidence supports intense exercise  for more than 90 minutes,     can make athletes susceptible to illness… up to 72 hours after high intensity endurance training.  Research  has  found  during  intense physical exertion the  body  produces  certain  hormones  that  temporarily  lowers  immunity. Cortisol  and adrenaline,  known as stress hormones;  raises blood pressure, cholesterol levels and supresses the immune system.

It’s  not only  physical stress  that  increases  the release  of  cortisol  and  adrenaline.  Psychological stress can also impair immunity  and  lead to an increase  of  colds  and  flu  infections.  Researchers  at  Ohio  State  followed people  who  had  the  stress  of  caring  for  a  loved  –  one  with  Alzheimer’s and  found  they  experienced twice  as many colds as non – caregivers.

The Metabolic Syndrome

When you think metabolism ….you have to think everybody’s is either slow/fast, acidic or aklaline  at least I do.  In order to keep it  functioning properly you have to stay active and  consume proper nutrition  (you are proverbially what you eat.)  If  you have a slow metabolism…. your body might produce more cholesterol,  thereby,  making you have to  rev  your body up…. by  doing  vigorous  exercise…. to  burn off  the excess amount      (I began at fifty doing cardio riding a mountain bicycle religiously.)

While  it’s important  to  keep  your  pH Balance  in check  because  it controls protein structures,  potassium  and calcium concentrations  for  overall nutrient metabolism  (carbohydrates  are primarily catabolized      for energy,  however,  small amounts are anabolized  by  glycogenesis.) With protein being vital  as  well,  because  when  you  don’t  get  proper amounts your body can go into three different disorders:  MARASMUS:           is characterized by tissues wasting and fluid imbalances of electrolytes, KWASHIORKOR:  caused  when  your  body  lacks  proper protein  with sufficient calories.

With the third state being much like cachexia which a cancer patient        goes  through. The metabolic syndrome x:  is a combination of  medical  disorders that when occurring together increase the risk  for developing  cardiovascular disease, cancer  and  diabetes.  Most  patients  are older,  obese with sedentary lifestyle  and having a degree of insulin resistance.  The pathophysiology regarding whether insulin resistance, obesity and  stress is often misunderstood.

It is common  for there  to  be  a development  of  central visceral  fat,    after which  adipocytes  ( fat cells)  of  the verceral  fat  increases plasma levels of  tumor necrosis  factor – alpha (TNF-a)  while altering a number      of  other substances (e.g. adiponectin, resistin and PAI-1. TNF-a has been  shown, not only, to cause the production of inflammatory cytokines, but also, possibly trigger cell signaling by interaction with a TNF-a receptor that may lead to insulin resistance  (Lavalle Metabolic Institute.)

If they’re consequences of  a  more  far reaching derangement occurs.          A number  of  systemic inflammation,  including  C-reactive protein  are  often increased as are  fibrinogen,  interleukin 6  amongst others.  Some have pointed to a  variety of causes, including increased uric acid levels caused  by  dietary  fructose.  This  fructose will  first elevate blood level  triglycerides which induce visceral fat and ultimately results in insulin resistance.

This  progression  from visceral  fat often increases  TNF-a  to insulin resistance has  parallels to human development  of  metabolic syndrome. The increase in adipose tissue also increases the number of immune cells present within,  which plays an important role in chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation  contributes  to  an  increase risk of  hypertension, arthersclerosis, cancer and diabetes.

Recent research, also indicates prolonged stress upsets the hormonal balance  of  the  hypothalamic  pituary  adrenal – axis (HPA-axis.)  and  a dysfunction here causes high cortisol levels to circulate,  which  in  affect causes raising glucose  and  insulin levels.  Which in turns causes insulin medicated effects  on adiopose tissue,  ultimately promoting visceral  fat adiposity, insulin resistance, dyshipidemia and hypertension.

Central obesity is a key  feature of  the syndrome,  however,  despite          the importance of  obesity.  People of  normal weight can also be insulin resistant and have the syndrome. Therefore, those whom are physically inactive  or lead sedentary lifestyles…. are more prone  to  reduced  HDL cholesterol  and  a trend toward increased triglycerides, blood pressure,  and glucose in the genetically susceptible.

Preventing Cancer is Key to Success

With  the  blog post  for May  and  April  being  cancer treatment  and survivorship.  This website isn’t about telling doctors how to treat cancer patients.  It’s  a  website  that  searches  for answers  and  is  indicative  of   prevention and  what we should know  to prevent cancer  from occurring    to us  and  reducing your risk.  With  the  number of  new cancer patients expected to more than double  from  1.36 million  in  2000  to  almost  3.0 million  in 2050  it could be a devastating problem.

Between 1970  and  2012 despite conflicting reports of cancer rates decreasing  with improvements  in cancer prevention,  early detection         and  treatment.  With  the number of  cancer patients  also steadfastly increasing this could cause a problem for a broken health care system. However  in 1970,  the United States population  was 203,302,031 with            a total mortality rate of  330,972  or  162.8 per 100,000  or  907  deaths   daily that trend increases each year.

While 20 years later 1990,  the United States population increased              to 248,709,873 with a total mortality of  505,322 or 203.2 per 100,000       and 1384 deaths per day the problem escalated. Until NOW instead of decreasing like some would have you believe the numbers climb. Just         last  year  when  we  seen  the United  States  population  increased  to  313,933,954 on July 4th. The mortality rate of cancer went to 577,190           or 215.1 per 100,000 and 1581 deaths daily.

Recombinant bovine growth hormone  (rBGH) which is a synthetic             (man- made)  hormone approved  by the FDA  in 1993,  however,  is not permitted  in the more stringent areas of  the  world  (European Union, Canada and some other countries.) Bovine Growth Hormone, which is      also known  as bovine somatotropin  (BST)  is the natural  form of  this hormone in cattle.

Also Recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH)  or recombinant                bovine  somatropin  (rBST)  refers  to  a  hormone  made  in  a  lab  using genetic technology.  Concerns  about health issues  have  focused  on two main issues persist. First cows treated with rGHB tend to develope more udder infections (mastitis.)  So  does  the  antibotics  given  cows  lead  to more antibotic – resistant bacteria.

Secondly does drinking milk  from rBGH treated cows increase blood levels  of  growth hormone IGF-1,  a hormone  that  normally  helps  some types of cancer cells grow.  Some studies indicate  that  IGF-1 levels at the high end of  the normal range can influence  the developement  of  certain tumors.  With some studies suggesting adults who drink milk have about 10%  higher levels  of  IGF-1 in their blood levels than those drinking little    or no milk.

However,  this same  finding  has also been reported  in  people whom drink  soymilk  which in my opinion is false.  Suggesting that the increase     in IGF-1 may not be specific to cow’s milk, and may be caused  by  protein,  minerals, or some other factors in milk unrelated to rBGH. There has been no direct comparsion of  IGF-1 levels  in  people who drink ordinary cow’s milk versus milk stimulated by rBGH.

When  you  consider  rBGH  in  our  Standard American  Western Diet combined with sugar,  sugar substitutes which can be addictive. Than add processed  foods with ingredients you can’t pronounce and  fluoride in our water supply the onslaught is on.  In this balancing act of  prevention. You best  take  out  some  of  the bad  and  add good to it ( vegetables and  fruits2 to 3  grams  of  fish oil5,000 iu  of  vitamin D3a  great  multi – vitamincurcumin  or  turmeric,  with inulin  (fibre.)  and anti oxidants  which are cornerstones in your diet. This might be an insurance policy of  policies to overcome the odds of  getting cancer in the  first place.

One of  the main keys  for preventing cancer  was discovered wayback       in  1931,  when  Noble laureate Dr. Otto Warburg;  work became one of  the most effective treatments for cancer. What he discovered was healthy cells burns  oxygen  for  energy.  His main discovery  wayback than was cancer cells  produces  energy  by  fermenting  sugar  in  an  acidic environment ~ low in oxygen to survive.

Cancer  only survives  when  oxygen is reduced  and  the body becomes more acidic  and  sugar is  present to  feed  the cancer.  Therefore,  in 1994 while watching his wife sufferthe  debilitating  ravages  of  chemotherapy and cancer itself.  Bill Henderson researched  and  discovered  the  5 steps     of  Curing Cancer with  1. increasing oxygen levels   2. reduce sugar levels     3. lower acidicity levels  4. boost the immune system   5. eliminate toxins.

While  being  one  of  the leading guru’s  of  Integrative Medicine in the  United States at  The University of  Ariona.  Dr. Andrew Weil  has a belief   there  are  many  elements  of  fruits  and  vegetables  protecting  us  from  the  harmful effects  of  inflammation.  What  he  showcases  is  the  many  aspects  of  inappropriate inflammation being  the root  cause  of  serious diseases killing and disable people prematurely (cardiovascular disease, Alzheimers and cancer begin as inflammatory prophecies.)

Speaking about the alternative  from the book  Outsmart Your Cancer  written by Tanya Harter Pierce comes this intriquing information  from    the 1930’s. Dr. James V. Sheridan, Detroit Institute of  Cancer Research developed  a  formula called  Entelev,  which  in  1984  another  company begin making a similiar product named Cancell; which wasn’t approved    for use in the United States.

However,  mixtures  similiar  to Cancell  such  as  Cantron & Protocel        are  available  as dietary supplements.  Protocel being a relatively equal inexpensive counter part appears  to  be great  for disabling the energy – producing mechanism of  the trophoblast. Which is a cell line that many believe is the basis  for cancer. So is it a cure for cancer?  A False Hope or      a good preventive protocol for cancer — you do the research – you be the judge!!!

Additionally,  Protocel  has compounds  that helps  the body dispose         of  dead  or  necrotic tumor tissue.  This  is  critical  because  one  can die  from toxic poisoning from necrotic or dead cancer tissue (however, with   any treatment both conventional or alternative — one should always do there own research  and  weigh the optionsafter getting a second  and sometimes third opinion.)
