  What this newest “blog post” isn’t about and what you think when you hear Tour de’ France.  Although  a  special mention  goes out to  Lance Armstrong whom he himself. Having been diagnosed with Testicular Cancer on October 2nd,  1996  and his last chemotherapy treatment being received Dec. 13,1996.

   By  January 1998  engaged  in serious training  went onto win the Tour de’ France,  a grueling event  “questionably ” 7 consecutive years 1999 to 2005. Also  this  “blog post,”  isn’t  about  that  paradox  or  the   French Paradox     and  the observation  that French people  suffer  relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease widow-maker (despite a diet high in saturated fat.)

   This  “blog post” isn’t about touring Paris,  it’s  quaint villages or the wine country.  It  sure  isn’t  about  my French Connection  and  the  area around Pintheville, the District of Meuse  in the Lorraine Region  of France.  In an  area  alongside  the  Northeast  border  of France and Luxemborg where in    1852 aboard the Ship Charles my namesake orginated.

   What this  “blog post”   brings to the table  is the area in South France with impressive  work  in  Cancer treatments.  Also  it  informs  the  visitant  about  France  and  it’s Universal Health Care proposal in it’s treatment to those that have cancer. With some of the techniques and insights into the countries way of treating this dreadful disease.

    In a  “global disorder” of trying to decipher which country gets the highest ranking for affordable health care. While Canada moves to a more fruit-filled preventive means  for  fulfilling  their  health care needs.  France usually gets the top billing of having the best system while in a  “vicious circle”  imposing the U.S. tactics borrowing  “co-pays”  to help throttle back the higher cost.

   In such states much like Utah, where supposely soil content rich in      Selenium produces  below average cancer rates  in  The United States.       There is some concern though high amounts of Selenium particularly    elemental selenium and inorganic sodium selenite may be toxic.

  The protection of youthful elascity, tissue degeneration and the cell  membrane is further enhanced by vitamin E. Selenium and vitamin E     working together like an orchestra synergestically carrying out anti-         oxidant and immunostimulating functions.

  Both these nutrients functioning better together than individually,                     as part of the “antiaging” or “longevity” group,  which may be directly attributable to their antioxidant functions.    The pancreas an organ  in  the  upper abdomen  located beneath the      stomach and adjacent to the first portion of the  small intestine  called        the  duodenum.   The  most  common  cancer  of  this  type  are  called adenocarcinoma of the pancreas  amongst the most agressive type of all cancers.

  The thyroid gland located  in front of the neck  and just below the so called  Adams Apple and is shaped like a butterfly. It’s function that it discretes the hormone that helps regulate the way in which we use energy and this helps your body function normally.  Experts really don’t know the exact cause of thyroid cancer,   however,   being  exposed  to  radiation   (especially from    dental xrays is a concern.)

   Medullary  thyroid cancer  can be also caused by a change or alteration in       a gene called RET. A blood test can detect an altered RET Gene and a doctor  may recommend  frequent lab test  or  surgery to remove the thyroid before cancer developes (and yes…. you can live without a thyroid comfortably.)

  A preventive measure  one  must  always  consider  is  the  amount  of  the    Iodine one maintains  in their diet. The thyroid  needs  Iodine to  manifest   the hormone that makes it function and in the Great Lakes region. Known as  the goiter belt….  a greater number  of thyroid cancer  is reported because of  less Iodine consumed in those people that live there.  How ‘Bout Laetrile?

The Endometrium is the tissue lining the uterus or womb and cancer occurs when the cells undergo transformation.   As all these cells grow and multiply uncontrollably,  mechanisms  that  normally limit their growth form tumors. Cancer is dangerous  because it overwhelms healthy cells  by taking up space and the oxygen plus nutrients the healthy cells need to survive and prosper.

  Therefore,  the exact cause of endometrial carcinoma remains unknown; although,  some of the risk factors  including being over fifty pounds  over weight,  early puberty,  never having been pregnant  and  late  menopause.   Also, women who have high levels of unopposed estrogen ( similiar then to ovarian and breast cancer) are also at an increased risk of this type.

  Everybody knows what function the liver has,  therefore,  liver cancer the third most common cancer in the world and most surely the deadliest of all cancers.  Killing almost all patients whom have it  within  a  year  and about three – quarters of all liver cancer  is found in  Southeast Asia    ( in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan.) 

  Liver cancer also very common in Saharan Africa is greater than 100 cases     per 100,000 population.  In contrast the frequency of liver cancer in North America  and  Western European Countries  is much lower…. less than five per 100,000 population.  However,  the frequency among  native Alaskans  are comparable to those seen in Southeast Asia.

  Therefore stated, “the prevalence of hepatitis B infections, which is the most common cause of liver cancer worldwide. Recent data shows,  however,  that   the frequency of liver cancer  is rising in  the United States  and this increase  due primarily to rising obesity and diabetes rates.  With also  the  hepatitis B  infection of the liver that causes cancer being another concern.”

   The  hepatitis  B  virus  is able to  multiply and flourish  in the  body  while causing  living inflammation caused by the immune system  that can lead to cirrhosis.  What these patients typically  have are high levels  of  hepatitis B  virus in their blood but normal enzymes and liver biopsies,  however,  what  this virus can do is damage DNA.

   Damaged  DNA  can cause liver cancer  and such  patients  should have an ultra sound  examination of the liver….  alpha fetoprotein  blood  test every   six months to look for  developing  liver  cancer.  Usually individuals at risk    for developing liver cancer are those with cirrhosis (advanced liver disease) and cirrhosis is a precancerous condition.
