Cervical and Colorectal Cancer

Cervical Cancer: infections and some types  of  human papilloma virus          is the great risk  factor  for cervical cancer.  While other cancer quick  facts  includes  human  immuno  deficiency  virus…. being  the  two major known culprits.  And The  wide  spread  introduction  of  cervical  screening  by  the  Papanicolaou test (Pap smear)  for cervical cancer,  having  been  credited,  with dramatically reducing incidence and mortality of  cervical cancer.

Gynecologic Oncology  including cancers that arises  from the ovaries, uterus, cervix, endometrium, uterus or vagina and vulva. Once again like breast cancer one of the biggest risk factors is unopposed estrogen. When    you hit  a  snag in your recovery one of the leading medical institutions in the world  is right here  in the United States  at  John Hopkins Hospital  in Baltimore, Maryland. Also for those living in the Great Lake Region in the United States ….you  have  a  renowned  gynecological oncologist  in  your own backyard in Indianapolis…. St. Vincent Hospital.

Ovarian cancer  is  a  difficult disease to diagnosed  and  treat,  because it may have no symptoms in it’s early stages, and also,  because symptoms can easily be over looked  or  mistaken  for something else.  Much effort has been put into  finding  a  reliable useful test to diagnose ovarian cancer early. But unfortunately there still isn’t a good early screening test for ovarian cancer. http://gma.yahoo.com/video/miss-arizona-contestant-battles-cancer-173419661.html           Abdominal Chemo Baths???

The OVA – 1  test  like it’s predecessor,  the CA -125  test  is  not  a  test  that should be used  for someone  with  no known problem  who is worried about ovarian cancer.  The OVA – 1  test  just isn’t designed  to be utilized that way. OVA – 1  is a combination  of  five different blood test  used  to create a single score  that  can  tell  a  doctor.  How likely  an ovarian mass…. is to become  ovarian cancer and can help the doctor choose the right kind of surgery.

Colorectal Cancer:  occurs greater than  75 – 95%  in people with little          or  NO  genetic risk. While some facts on cancer such as older age and male gender can not be changed,  many can.  A high fat,  alcohol  (risk appears to increase  at  greater than one drink per day),  or  with  inflammatory bowel disease and  high  red  meat  intake  (E-coli),  obesity,  smoking,  and  a lack   of  physical  exercise  (approximately  10%  of  these  cases  are  linked  to insufficient activity).

Most cases of colorectal cancer occurs due to lifestyle choices, increasing  age risk with only  a  minority  of  cases  associated  with  underlying genetic disorder.  Those with a family history  in  two  or  more first degree relatives have a  two  to  threefold  greater risk of disease  and  this group accounts for about 20% of all cases.  Current  dietary  recommendations  to  prevent colon cancer include increasing  the  consumption  of  whole grain,  vegetables  and  fruit.  While also making sure your have adequate supplies of vitamin D and reducing intake of red meat.

On the topic of the derriere region of the human anatomy. Half of my adult life. I  had  to  deal  with  the  painful  reality  of  hemorroidal  attacks  like  so many.  Finally having this torment become unbearable, I had to deal with the harsh reality head on  and  there  is  know teacher like this experience  and  I  feel I want to pass the lesson on to the visitant of this website.

Hemorrhoids cushions  are  a  normal part  of  the anal anatomy  that  are composed of small  arteries  (blood vessels that bring oxygenated blood from the  heart  to  a  specific  structure).  Small  veins  (blood  vessels  that  bring  unoxygenated blood from a specific anatomical structure back to the heart), and connective tissue  that  helps with the passage  of  stool  out  of  the anus. Pathological hemorrhoids which are typically….  what we think  of  when we think of those hemorrhoidal cushions.

When  they  become  inflamed  and/or  irritated  from  either  increased  intra – abdominal  pressure  from  straining of  irregular  bowel  movements,  such  as  constipation  and  diarrhea,  lack of fiber in the diet,  lack of aerobic exercise,  aging,  and/or  an  absence  of  specific  valves  (that  helps  to  move unoxygenated blood back to the heart within the hemorrhoid veins).  As you can tell by the discription you just read the heart and colon works in unison.

Besides working in unison does the heart and colon amongst all organs is  another explanation. Heart palpitations and high blood pressure can be also caused by iron deficiencies and/or mal – absorption meaning your body isn’t absorbing iron properly. With common causes being a celiac sprue or losing iron through the GI Tract,  such as with a case  of  a  polyp  or  inflammatory bowel disease. Therefore, you should be checked for mal – absorption and if that looks good a colonoscopy with a further review.

Therefore, any problems you have down in your derriere can influence and have detrimental effects  on your heart.  My  proctologist  told  me  that  those devilish hemorrhoid veins  can  sometimes  produce  heart  attacks  if  they’re left unchecked.  Which explains…. some of the heart attack type symptoms I was having (pressure in my chest, stingers in my shins, aches in the middle of my  buttocks,  shortness  of  breath, high  blood  pressure and pulse rate etc).

After dealing with problem for a prolonged priod of time what I realized in true hind sight is that some of the more popular creams and ointments might not be the answer.  Better choices might be products with phenobarbital  and zinc  oxide  content  in   those  products,  this  is  not   to  mention,   some  of  the more less  popular products that might produce better results.

One  of  the  first signs of  colon cancer could be blood in the stool coming from the upper gastro intestinal tract. Once Hemorrhoids, Crohns disease or Ulcerative Colitis  is ruled out  (both which are inflammatory bowel diseases which  can  be  found  with  the upper GI  Endoscopy or lower GI  Colonscopy procedures  checking  for abnormalities.)  Colon cancer  and  polyps  can  be suspected within.

Breast, Brain, Bone & Bladder Cancer

Breast Cancer: estrogen tell cells to grow – grow while progestrone, on     the other hand, counteracts the estrogen stimulation;  while  encouraging  the cell to mature and die on time.  Damaged  breast  tissue  that  receives   this message  from estrogen without progesterone’s ‘balancing influence‘    is the perfect setup  for the many reproductive cancers.  The Story of  Nine!!!  http://envirocancer.cornell.edu/factsheet/general/fs10.estrogen.cfm

What the F@#- is Cancer and Why Does Everybody have It?                                             Allison W. Gryphon  ~  Breast Cancer Survivor Battle

In less than  5%  of  all breast cancer cases  genetics plays a significant        role,  while those carrying the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations. These mutations  account  for  up to 90%  of   total genetic influence  with a risk     of  breast cancer of  60 – 80% in those affected.  While being a long – term smoker increases  the  risk  35 – 50%,  with  the role diet playing includes          a  high  fat  diet,  heavy alcohol intake  with  a dietary iodine deficiency       and  obese  nature being a perfect breeding ground.

Also in 2001,  Suzanne Somers  was  diagnosed  with  breast cancer      while having a lumpectomy  and radiation she declined chemotherapy.    Than  again …November 2008,  she was supposedly misdiagnosed with  inoperable  cancer  by  six  doctors.   It  was  during  this  time  that  she interviewed  doctors  about cancer treatments  and  it  became the basis          of  her book; “KNOCKOUT.”   The American Cancer Society is concerned    that  her  tendency  to  over  simplify  medical  message  maybe  deadly?   However,   until  this  day  she  is  still  on  her  crusade  advocating  for  Alternative Medicine with regular guest shots on popular television!!!!

A  study  at  the  Humanitas Cancer Center in Milan, Italy   followed          749 women  at  11  centers  in  Italy;  after surgery alone  or  surgery plus radiation.  The women between  the ages of  55  and  75 years had tumors     2.5 cm  or  less that had not spread.  This study had  found no significant difference in the return rate of  cancer among women in the two groups.

While another 2012 study at the University 0f  Michigan  found 1,446  treated there,  about  70 percent  had  both  their breast removed  after a breast  after  a breast cancer diagnosis. Did  so  despite  a  very  low risk           of  getting cancer in the healthy breast and the researchers said in most cases the decision was driven by  fear of  recurrence.

Through their own  fear of recurrence Susan Gonzalez (Savvy Sister) (Simple   Changes  Through  Healthy  Living),  met  Florence Strang  and wrote the book  “100 Perks of  Having Cancer,”   Florence also put a blog    on  the  internet.  Like “soul sisters”  whom  think  a like…. they both  feel  with small simple changes in your lifestyle you can have a healthy life.

Some  of  the  other nuggets  of  the  truth  they  preach:  are through      power of  positive thinking…. you don’t have to be a victim when breast cancer or any type of  cancer arises.  Through your attitude can dictate          a  “Happy Chemo Smackdown,”   and  realize “if ”  you  don’t  feel  sorry        for  yourself….  through  mindset,   meditation   and   spiritual  exercise  (power of  prayer) can determine your outcome.  Florence and Susan        also co- founded  Cancer Plan 4 Life!!!   Marika Hamilton made a very conscious choice  About Dealing with Healing

Low Cholesterol and Cancer Risk

Remember this website is for detailed information about cancer and is a centralized cancer research hub forwarding –  funneling all the information toward newer blog post  to  greater increase the content  in  future blog post. That being said,  lets examine the  issue…. does  cholesterol reduction cause cancer?  What impact does  statin drugs  have  on  you  over  the long term?   My  belief   is   to  Keep Your Cholesterol Level  In  Check No Matter What!!!!  Dr. Mehmet Oz explains how Artichoke Extract lowers cholesterol naturally.

If lower cholestrol levels were to increase the risk of cancer, how might it   do this?  The first explanation might  be  cholesterol  is  the  basic building block  of  vitamin D…. a  substance  with  a  potent  anti – cancer  property,  and  secondly,   your  cells  need  cholestrol  to  metabolize  in  the  correct  manner.  Some elevated risk of cancer for males with low serum cholestrol levels have been noted.  What about other known cancer risk factors!!!!

The median of these studies examined is consistent with a 30% increased risk, and  the  answer  for  female  is  less  clear,  however,  the risk seems to depend strongly on  whether  females  have  central  or  peripheral body fat. The strong influence  of   fat distribution  in  women suggest  a  metabolic or hormonal basis underlining the association.

The cancer most consistently associated  with  low serum cholesterol levels are those of colon and lung in males, and the cervix and breast (but only for females under 50 years of age) in female. With leukemia in both sexes, while in contrast, high cholesterol having a link with an increase in brain cancer. How you handle stress determines how your body handles cholesterol

In the book: The China Study,  counties with the lowest average plasma cholesterol levels, also have the lowest cancer rates. While this observation is open to a number of interpretations, it does not support the idea that low serum cholesterol  is  a  tumor indicator.  In aggregate,  the  trials  of  lipid – lowering interventions reviewed has shown an increase in cancer occurence (primarily mortality of approximately 24% in cholesterol lowered groups.

Recent evidence indicates that products in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway  affect DNA replication and cell proliferation. These findings also suggest a mechanism  by  which cholesterol lowering  might accerelate the development of tumors already initiated. The data having been rviewed in no  way  suggest  that  “treatment  of  hypercholesterolemia”  should not be pursued,  however,  in  small  sub  populations  reduction  of  plasma chole- sterol may lead to increased risk of cancer.

Oxidative Stress

It’s said, “oxidative  stress  causes  disease…. so what is oxidative stress     a  short answer would be  when  you halve  an  apple…. when it’s exposed  to  oxygen  and  turns  brown  that’s  oxidative stress.”  While  adding  an antioxidant such as lemon and prevents oxidation that’s what this blog is  all  about.  Inside the body, damage like this  from  ” free radicals” can be detrimental and harmful (so allow antioxidants to be your prevention).

Free Radicals  are  continuously  generated  within  the mammalian cells,  while this being  a consequence of  the use of  oxygen in aerobic respiration.  Free radicals are extremely powerful  &  dangerous DNA  damaging  agents while antioxidants are substances that prevent damage to cells caused by  free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules that have lost an electron,  thereby becoming unstable.  These free radicals basicly steal electrons  from other  molecules in  effort  to heal themselves,  while ultimately creating  NEW  free radicals in  the  process.  By  these  stealing  electrons,  they  create  damage   DNA leading to the possible development of cancer and cause us to seek a good ophthalmologist as we age for cataract surgery.

Free radicals are formed from a number of causes (cigarette smoke,    pollution and exposure to sunlight  are  all  just  a   few  examples of  the formation of free radicals).  Antioxidants search  for these  free radicals  and  lend them electrons,  thereby,  stabilizing  the  molecule,  therefore preventing damage to other cells. Antioxidants  turn  free radicals into waste by – product and then eventually  eliminate them  from the body.

Fungal Nature of Cancer

This  blog post  is  taken excerpts  of  Ronald Gdanski  and others whom believe  that  cancer  has  a  fungalviral,  bacterial  and  parasitic  nature.    I’m out to discover the reliable historic data available showing that cancer researchers  initiated  cancer  in  healthy  laboratory  animals  by  infecting them with parasitic larvae  from a worm found in horses…. Proving indeed that cancer is parasitic in nature and could be a likely cause.

Dr. Johannes Fibiger initiated cancer in his laboratory and in 1923 won the Noble Prize in Medicine for his achievement, however, later being taken back.  I  feel  what  he  actually discovered  was  that  vitamin A deficiencies causes tumors.  Oncologist advise, “at the first sign of abnormal bleeding  that one should see your doctor.”      Cancer Prevention!!!!

Benign growth, cyst, polyp, and pre – cancerous lesions describe a mass   of abnormal  and  infected cells closely related  to  cancer  when  something triggers growth. Physical injuries that do not heal…. due to infections, also leads  to  cancer.  Rapid  doubling  of  cells to  repair  injuries  is  due  to  an increased energy field called the current of injury.

The current  of  injury that causes human cells to double rapidly causes pathogens inside the cells to double rapidly. Human and parasitic life form cells simultaneously produce growth factors  for  membrane cells to repair the membrane.  These new cells do not knit well with the original cells then fail to heal as the injury stays infected.

As the pathogens stay infected and become inflamed…. they continue to divide, mutate and multiple.  This lack of knitting results in metastasis and that  is  the  cause  of  cancer explained.  So armed with the knowledge that infections  and  injuries  produce essential growth  factors  that  initiate the rapid  doubling  of  cells.  What  is  needed  is  to  find  a  method  that  will eliminate the parasites that accompany injuries.

While  most  strains  of  harmful  bacteria  (cancer cells)  are anaerobic    and can’t survive in the presence of oxygen. Friendly bacteria are aerobic needing high oxygen environment to flourish…. what can be agreed upon    is  that  hydrogen peroxide  produced  within  cells  are  essential  for  life. Father Richard Willhelm  is  the  Founder  of  the Educational Concern for Hydogen Perioxide….  educating the public on the safe use of therapeutic hydrogen peroxide.    How about the benefits of Oil of Oregano!!!!

Dr. Lawrence Plaskett…. a  fellow  of  the  Royal Society  of  Chemistry,    believes the action of the substances in Aloe Vera activates and intensifies the immune response. It’s in this boosting of the immune system response   to antigens (foreign elements in the body) that Aloe vera has shown great promise in treating cancer.

Being that Aloe Vera is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial…. it’s believed that Aloe Vera enables the body to heal itself  from cancer and the damage done  to  it  by  conventional treatment.  When chemotherapy and radiation  are  necessary  the  immune system  is  boosted,  tumors shrink and metastases are reduced… .so  cancer  does  not  spread.  All Aloe Vera Juice Products…. aren’t created equally in terms of potentcy…. so by all means…. please thoroughly research what you are buying!!!!

Early to Bed… Early to Rise

Galen and Hippocrates to Mel Greaves,  not much, has changed in our knowledge of knowing.  However, in my first blog of August Laura Rozek       a Molecular Epidemologist at the University of Michigan discusses, “how  cancer results  since  1960  have  stayed  steadfast.”   Whereas,  she states, “in other countries where they can’t afford treatment….  they  have  move forward with “preventive methods” of dealing with epigenetic changes of this dreadful disease.”         World Without Cancer!!!!

Then learning from Dana Dolinoy, Ph.D. Searle Assistant Professorship      in Public Health  at  the  University  of  Michigan School  of  Public Health. Discusses DNA methylation  being  a  crucial  part  of  normal  organismal development, cellular  differentation  and  how  environmental  issues  can decrease gene expression. Abberrant DNA methylation patterns have been associated with a large number of human malignancies.

Abberrant DNA while being found in two distinct forms hypermethylation and  hypomethylation  compared  to  normal  tissues.  Hypermethylation which  typically occurs  at  the CpG islands  in  the promoter region  and  is  associated with gene inactivation.  Whereas,  hypomethylation  has  been  implicated in the development and progression of cancer through different mechanisms.

TROPHOBLAST Thesis of Cancer:  through the work  of  Dr. John Beard    and  Dr. William Donald Kelley.  Dr Nicholas Gonzalez  having  a  clinic  in New York while treating patients with  a  cancer diet therapy that includes pancreatic enzymes,  a host  of  natural compounds  and  vitamins.  With  a belief that like a trophoblast fetus…. cancer cells divide rapidly into a mass of undifferentiated cells.

Therefore,  unlike stem cells that’s in our body’s to act like healing cells   and rush to a site of inflammation. While transforming into the type of cell  required  to  repair  the  particular  problem.   When  the  wound  is  healed  sometimes these trophoblast  are  not  switch back to normal cells.  Instead continue to produce more and more undifferentiated cells.

Dr. Beard,  back  in  the  day  believed estrogen maintained these cancer like cells.  Whilst pancreatic enzymes  like trypsin and chymotryspin either switches  these  back  to  normal  cells  or  could  in  some  way  attack  them. While enabling the immune system to recognize and neutralize them.

In simple English…. this means cancer is the growth of normal tissues, however,  at the wrong time  in  place.  It progresses because of the lack of cancer  digesting enzymes  in  the  body  and  through  the  pancreas  these enzymes are the primary cancer fighters in the body.  So  the  best  way  to attack cancer cells is to get pancreatic enzymes to the cancer site and then inhibit the growth.

We  metabolize  hormones  in  two phases called simply Phase 1  and  2 connected by a metabolic pathway between metabolites…. which vitamins, minerals and enzymes regulate these pathways.  Think  of  enzymes  as  the driving force:  some move slowly  and  others rather rapidly  (genetics and nutrients determine their speed  e.g., if there is a metabolic rush hour that  is  caused  by  medications  and  other  toxins  (orange barrels)  metabolic  traffic jams  (menopause) progestrone estrogen balance result.

Which pathway you decide to travel determines the state of your health. Therefore driving down  the  2-hydroxy (estrone) pathway decreases your levels  of carogenic materials  (orange barrels)  you  will  encounter  along  the  way.  The  second  16-hydroxy  pathway  produces the “bad estrogen” metabolites that can cause breast cancer.

Thirdly,  is the 4-hydroxy pathway  that’s  associated  with even higher   incident  rates  of cancer.  So it seems rather obvious that what you would want to encounter (if your a women) is more “good estrogen” than “bad.” Hence forth the foods you consume in your diet does have an influence on the types  of hormones you display.  Cruciferous  vegetables  to  a  certain extent has a regulating influence,  however,  when  you have health issues sometimes it takes over the counter supplementation  (Diindolylmethane and Inositol hexa-phosphate) to influence the enzymatic pathway.

After  all  that…. Andreas Moritz  elaborates  on  his   three main causes theory,  congestion,  especially congestion  in  the  lympathic system,  also  deficiency of vitamin D  and  irregular sleep patterns. Andreas’  belief that over indulgence  of  red  meat  is  one  of  the  main  causes…. which I agree with. Your  digestive  system  can  only  digest 20%  of  what  your  average person trys to consume at one time.

Also Moritz believes, vitamin D  controls 2,500 genes in your body and       it is the most influential  hormone.  Andreas states, “that it  is  absolutely  powerful  and  keeps your immune system healthy  and  strong.  You can’t have a healthy immune system without vitamin D and restoring the levels would prevent 77% of all cancers.  Thirdly,  lack of sleep or irregular sleep patterns  reduces melatonin.”

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland…. best at certain times of    night between 9:30 pm and peak between midnight  and  1:00am.  What  melatonin  controls  is  genes  life  cycle  and  that  in  itself  is  important.   With inadequate levels it causes cells to live longer  which then can cause       a different dividing mechanism.  The  longer  cells  live the more  apt they    are to turn cancerous… this theory might be proven when you take a look   at the differences between nurses with an irregular sleeping pattern  and blind people studies.

Lastly,  Dr. Leonard Coldwell believes every conceivable cancer type can  be cured  within 2 to 16 weeks  simply  through spontaneous healing  and  I have read this theory by more the one.  The moment you rid the body of and acidosis  state  in  your  blood,  he  states, and it becomes alkalized and then oxygen rich is the moment cancer ceases to be. Your typical pH balance has a range of  zero to 14 with 7 being neutral…. 7.35 normal and 7.5 to produce healing.  Paul Nison’s Raw Food Diet.    The Only Answer To Cancer!!!!

Looking Back – Moving Forward

When I look back and see what has been accomplished….I  feel  it  might    be more  than  most  first time visitants whom enter into this website. Allow me to spell it out: in December blog post that included New Years Resolution and the dangers of smoking cigarettes.  Which  might  just be the single most important cancer prevention measure in this website.

While the blog post  “It was Leiomyosarcoma,”  pin pointed   finding the best possible search for the type of cancer you have. At the Kimmel Sarcoma Center @ John Hopkins University  whom  see  more sarcoma patients in one day than most Major Institutions see in one year.  Also in January what was explained was brief orientation into Integrative Medicine  while concluding Vital Research Links…. US News & World Reports Top 16 websites & videos.

January blog post  introduced  the  visitant  to  some  of  the best doctors from around the world in Doctor – Doctor Please.  While February showcase the difference between the  America Amish versus Native American and also going to longest lived places in the world blog post and Karma in the World. Then placing  an  informative  Abortion blog post…. showing  that  Abortion kills more Americans each year then Cancer.

Lastly,  Take Action not Reaction  includes  my favorite websites  to  that point of the website in February.  Moving  into  the  month  of  March  which included  some  of  the  more  amazing happenings of  spring…. also the very informative American Spirit  of  you tube videos of some of the highlights of  events in our 236 years of this great country.  While leading  into one  of the more favorable blogs A Comprehensive Cancer Library.

Starting into April…. I  made  that  my cancer awareness month  of  the types of cancer  and  some of the facts that seperates them from each other. While traveling into the Beehive State for facts about the Mormon Doctrine and Utah’s amazing low cancer statistic.  Concluding  the  month  with  the vitamin D Paradox that showcases the importance of the major hormone.

Then strolling into May…. we  strolled into the  facts  while checking out Traditional Chinese Medicine in the blog Circle the Wagon. Then researched Aloe Vera and Oregano P73 in Plain and Simple or Maybe not,  while headed to  Arizona, also  Germany  while looking  for  the alternatives  and answers  to  the  world wide epidemic.  Also  in  Hypochondriac  having  seen  that we can’t be worried about everything and only be concerned about the facts.

In  the month  of  May  we  finished  with   “why”   Duke, U.S.F.C. and the University of Arizona  and  UC San Diego  are  revamping  into  some  of  the methods  of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Also “why”  in the Mediterrenean region has some  of the better cancer rates in the world  and  the importance in avoiding chronic inflammation.  Also in  Know the Risk Factor  we took a look at the side effects of supplements.

In June it was about examing your possibilities in knowing your options and while in France striking  a  balance when it comes to heath care through prevention. Then I saluted the American Soldier,  went through the meaning “why” the Dog Days of  Summer is the dog days. While taking One True Step  in  Rings of Fire  decipher Erin Brockovich’s cancer cluster theory and  with  Strange Twist pin pointed the major points of this website.

A Different Avenue

My July Blog Post brought forth the importance of nutrition in preventing cancer.  Where as  my  August Blog Post  will bring  to the fore front  some of the information we will need to help us better understand cancer period… in my Level Five Blog Post.  My main goal:  will try to bring you less links so it doesn’t appear to be a cancer link farm…. with greater content.

That’s the challenge that presents itself,  however,   for now in this blog  I would like  to change directions  for a bit…. and take a different avenue.  One that explains the importance of  “Never Giving Up,”  I have a friend  that  has diabetes  and  simply  by  walking unlike Forrest Gump did in the movie.  He walks two miles a day…. he  keeps  his  blood  count  in  check  and  stays off insulin.

However,  for a person  with Multiple Sclerosis  facing the challenges of  neurological symptoms,  including changes in any sensations,  such as loss of sensitivity  or  tingling,  pricking  or  numbness,  muscle weakness  or the very difficulty in moving with coordination and balance can be troubling in itself.         Multiple Sclerosis Affects Everybody!!!!

This doesn’t even mention the problems…. one can encounter with their speech  or  even  in  swallowing,  visual problems,  cognitive impairment of varying degrees  and  emotional syptoms  of  depression  or in mood swings. Thereby, this blog post and in any future ones, hopefully, the links that I put into them will helpout emmensely.

Let’s take a look at how MS occurs, thereby, being a result of some of the combinations  of  differenting  genetics  abnormalities,  environmental  and infectious factors,  and  quite  possibly  cardio  vascular  problems.  The risk of acquiring MS, is also higher in relatives of a person with the disease than if your just general population,  especially in the case of parent, sibling and children.

MS has an overall familial recurrence rate  of  20%  so this indicates that susceptibility  is  partly polygenically driven.  Apart  from  familial  studies, specific genes have been linked with MS; therefore, diiferences in the human leukocytes antigen (HLA) syatem – groupings of genes in chromosome 6 that serves as the Major Histo Compatibility complex (MHC) in humans increase the probability of suffering MS.

Thereby,  the  most consistent finding is the Association between MS and alleles  of  MHC  defined  as  DR15  and  DQ6… while  other  loci  have  shown  a protective effect, such as HLA – C554 and HLA – DRB1. MS is more common in people whom live farther from the equator suggesting decrease vitamin D production.

While vitamin D intake has been the main biological mechanism used to explain the higher risk amongst those less exposed to the sun. Inflamation also is a hallmark of the disease and the part that sun exposure has on that. One must remember also the effect of low vitamin D plays on the formation of inflamation from past blogs to see the reasoning behind this theory.

The  inflamatory  process  is  caused  by  T-cells,  a  kind  of   lymphocyte which plays an important role in the body’s defenses. In MS patients, T-cells gain entry into the brain via disruptions in the blood – brain barrier… which could be a major role in the development of the disease.  While  further leaks form in the blood – brain barrier,  which  in  turns  causes a number  of  other damaging effects;  such  as  swelling,  activation  of  macrophages  and  other destructive patterns.

While gout occurs less frequently MS patients….  this could statistically explain lower levels of uric acid having a profound effect on MS, when you compare them to normal individuals. This leads to the theory that uric acid protects aginst MS, although it’s importance remains unknown.

Glycemic…. versus…. Satiety Index

Medical publications support the thesis of high glycemic diets, which were established back  in the1980’s increases the risk for various types of cancer. So is it important to monitor your diet for low glycemic index foods.  Myself     I think  it’s nearly impossible  for  anybody  to sit over the long haul and try figuring out the complexity of a glycemic index diet.

First thing is a low glycemic  “good carb”  low fat diet  combines  optimal amounts of protein….  fiber and is generally considered healthy. Therefore  we must always remember the difference between   “Fast Acting”   refined  carbohydrates, and the  “slower performing”  complex carbohydrates. Also  an important point to make here…. is  some people confuse   “carbs”    with  “sugar” and categorize all carbohydrates the same.

This is a  “BIG MISTAKE,”   although,   “sugar is simple carbohydrates” better known as refined carbohydrates…. NOT  all carbs are created equal. However,   complex  carbohydrates,   such  as,  legumes,  vegetables,  fruit  and  whole grain.  Are  generally  “LOW glycemic foods,”   that  is  rich  in nutrients that are extremely important in nutritional support.

That  said,   what  the  glycemic  index  does  tell  you  is   HOW   quickly          50 grams of carbohydrates from a specific food,  will turn into blood sugar compared to  50 grams  of  table sugar  or  white bread.  While  using  bread  as  a barometer  because when  it’s fully digested  in  your  stomach  it  turns  completely into sugar.

Therefore….  let’s look at the fallacy of the glycemic index briefly…. e.g.     50 grams  of  carrot carbohydrate  has  a  glycemic index of 131 compared to white pasta having a 71 in the glycemic index.  This  might  be  a  misleading  account that carrots  are  an  unhealthy food  and  that  it raises blood sugar faster  than white pasta.  However,  one  whole  carrot  (a serving)  contains only 4 grams of carbohydrates; while one cup of white pasta (a serving) has 40 grams of carbohydrates.

This means  the glycemic load  which  adjust glycemic index  for  serving    size, is much lower for carrots.   A serving of carrots has a glycemic load of  5.2, where as a serving of white pasta (1 cup) is very high at 28.  Therefore,    in  order to have the same glycemic load from carrots…. one would have to eat nearly TWO pounds of carrots.

What the above stated example shows is HOW the glycemic index can be misleading  (just because a food has a high glycemic index does NOT mean     it  will  raise  blood  sugar  quickly  when  eaten  in  normal  size  portions.) Glycemic Index  and  Load  are  important  because  research  states eating higher glycemic diets; while eating more simple sugars increases your risk   of  several types of cancer.

Also think of this as being similiar to “bad fats” and  “good fats” because everyone needs some  “good fats”  to maintain normal physiology  and  also similarly  “good carbs”  are critical as well.  Remember: that glycemic index helps determine HOW quickly food is digested and absorb… while glycemic  load measures HOW intake of a carbohydrate affects blood sugar levels.

Therefore,  the notion  that  high GI foods leads  to  obesity ultimately rest    on assumption Glycemic Index equals Satiety Index (SI) and what the satiety index provides is a “BUZZWORD” for the state of  fullness factor.  However, what  the  satiety index  does  is  tell  you  which  foods  turn  off  appetite the quickest…. what the satiety index does is take a food that makes you full and satisfied and compares it to food that makes you feel empty and wanting.

Susanna Holt whom developed the satiety index…. super imposed taking  240 – calorie portions of popular foods  and  by ranking them accordingly to how  they compare with a slice of white bread. Which she gave a ranking of   100 just like  in  the  glycemic index  which  is  WHY  both scale  are so often confused. However,  some what differently  her  guage  will  tell  you that by eating each food  HOW quickly it will take you to fill up.

Thereby, Oatmeal  has  a  high satiety index level  at  209  and  a doughnut  ranks at 68,  interestingly,  240 – calories  of  boiled potatoes  rank highest  at 323 yet french fries score just a 116.   Therefore…. when you consumed either examples – you tell me which makes you feel fuller quicker after eating either  oatmeal versus a doughnut and boiled potatoes versus french fries.  Lead by this example  and  you will soon get the jest of this story and what I’m trying to explain in a very difficult topic to write about.

Research, also discovers, that when you develope the habit of eating salty,  sour or sweet, it activates a center of your brain that’s habit  forming. This is why  some  people  don’t  feel  full  after a savory meal  until  after  they  have desert  or  end up saying, “I gotta save room for desert.”  Therefore, once you turn on an appetite center you must always eat until it registers fullness  and  when you turn on many centers all at once you must eat until they’re all full.

HOT  TIP  #16  for  July:  I realize nobody will stand before a meal with a  calculator and count  “carbs” each day.  I’m sure NOT going to, however, just a reminder here of the  “good carb”  and  “bad carb”  theory.  While  straying more toward the good side of the carbohydrate measuring stick  and  stick to it for good health.
