Cancer Survivorship

In 2005,  at 41 years old,  Anita Mitchell  was  diagnosed  with Stage IV     colon  cancer.  Her  cancer  already  metastasized  and  had  seven  tumors on her liver was to large  to  be  removed surgically.  After  her  diagnosis:  Anita underwent  some surgery,  chemotherapy,  liver  resection  surgery  and  radio  frequency  ablation  a  technique  that  uses  a  special  type  of electrical  energy  (radio  frequency  to  heat) and  kill tumor tissue.  After  her treatment  Anita entered  into  the  Fred Hutchinson Cancer  Research  Center Survivorship Program while learning about cancer awareness.

Anita is Founder and Program Director for  ColonStars.org

In building this website up  from scratch,  I  was always open minded enough  to read the best of  the best books on the market. One such book:  Defeat Cancer  NOW  by Tamara  St. John whom also spent thousands of countless hours researching how cancer cells work,  and also the natural approaches  to  health,  biology,  biochemistry  and  epidemiology. While  investigating the alternative method, with proper detoxification without lysing symptoms which served her well in her battle with breast cancer.

Fran Drescherwhom  is  an  uterine cancer survivor  which  is  the #1   GNY cancer.  Believes we need to take control of  our bodies,  detox  homes while becoming better partners with our physicians. While galvanizing as one to allow  our legislators  know  the collective vote  is  louder  and more powerful  than  the richest corporate lobbyist.  As  Frederick Douglas said, “power  concedes  nothing  without  demand…. it never has  it never will!” She started her own movement to get others to rally around a cause.

Tandy Ricea  legendary name  in  The Nashville Scene;  tela manager,  agent to Tom T. Hall,  Porter  Wagner,  Waylon  Jennings  amongst  others had a setback in November 2009, while having a PSA test  and  told  he  had prostate cancer which also spread into his lymphnodes. While to this day he  states  his personal turning point  came into his life  when he  was  directed  to the Pearl  Point  Cancer  Foundation.  While the lesson he took  from this  life changing events  being  you  have – to  –  have  courage  when  the  chips  are down to complete your bucket list.

Dr. Richard Becker,  D.O.,  is  a  holistic  physician  from  North Texas; where he  and  wife Cindy host YourHealthTV.   In 1997,  Dr. Becker became   a cancer survivor himself  when he overcame Hodgkins Lymphoma.  Whom better to ask, because during that time he  and Cindy immersed themself  in the  world  of  natural  healing  and  today  his  cancer  is  still  in  remission. If you watch his show  religiously  like  I  do ~ you  will  start  to  realize  the importance of   supplementing  during  chemotherapy  with antioxidants in  the there after and always.

This is an option, however, when body temperature reaches these heights they can be considered quite extreme.  In 1888, Dr. William B. Coley founded Coley’s Toxin. Doc Coley being a Harvard Medical School Graduate, eminent New York City surgeon  and  cancer researcher.  Stumbled  across one of  the most  intriquing  findings  ever  made  in  cancer  research,  what  Doc Coley discovered  was cancer  cannot survive  in  an environment of  temperatures more  than  40 c (107.6 f).  Before  going  the  Alternative  route  you  should always  seek  the  advice of  a clinic openminded to both therapies?                  Sharon Brockman Testimonial

One touching story  that I crossed while researching every aspect for this website is the Hillary Quinn Kind case  from Detroit, Michigan.  Hillary was diagnosed with stage III B melanoma in October 2004  and  was told 5 years would be all the time she had left. While proving them wrong by three years, Hillary developed a special relationship  with  Dr. Patricia LoRusso whom is developing  personalized therapies today  for those cancer patients  with  the highly  agressive  BRAF wild type  metastatic melanoma  at  the  Karmanous Cancer Institute. In her limited time….  Hillary  confronted  her  health issue with bravery,  courage  and  looked at life as a simple gift.

Cindy’s Miracle Story: God told Cindy Russell in December 2006 sometime during the upcoming year she would be all set to enter into the Pearly Gates. However that he would give her a second chance, on March 17th 2007, Cindy was diagnosed with a massive cancerous tumor (bile duct having consumed  75% of  her  liver.)  Today  considering  her  experience  “The Journey,”  after some of  the nation’s top cancer centers pronounced her terminal  and  given six months to live. She met a doctor from a small valley in Pennsylvania that saved her life.

Dr. Jerome Canady

An  inspiring  cancer  survivor  story   for  Magician  Daniel Cullen  who      has directed The Maze, which is a mystery performance  featuring a unique brand of  mentalism  NOT seen in typical magic Shows. However, The Maze isn’t just about entertainment,  it’s about 1,000 students @ week  on College Campuses  across  the  nation signing up ….at  the  show  for  Be The Match for a bone marrow registry.

The  concept  stems  from  it’s  founder  and   fella magician Jim Munroe, whom being a Leukemia survivor himself  knows of  the intrigue of  waiting, before a 19 year old  female was brave enough to give him what he needed to live. Jim says, ” he  was  literally  dying  than  receiving  and  in  the  darkest hour…. GOD completely changed his life.”  THE Maze  is  a completely FREE show and  NON – profit  helping Leukemia patients overcome!!!

Sarcoma Survivor,  Joe Ginem was only 15 years old,  a budding violinist when  pain in his arm  and  shoulder prompted  a very shocking  and  surreal diagnosis of Osteosarcoma. Living only 25 miles away from Odessa, Florida and the Moffitt Cancer Center is was very fortunate. Because for 2 years and six days a week this hospital would be his second home.  Soon realizing that a shoulder replacement  would be necessary…. it was performed  by  one  of  the leading Orthopaedic Reconstructive Oncology Surgeons in the Nation.

Charlie Lustman  born  in  Munich Germany  on  May 8, 1965  which was   the twentieth anniversary  of  the  end  of  World War II.  Shortly there after his  family moved to Sunny California,  being a son of  a Holocaust Survivor Charlie knows what being  a survivor is all about. Charlie  survived  a  rare bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in his upper jaw that affects 1:400 million each year.  While becoming a patient at Cedars – Sinai  (Dr. Charles Forscher) in  Los Angeles  enduring 11 1/2 months  ~  22 rounds of  chemotherapy,  he also composing  songs  “Made Me Nuclear”  about his experience.

One of the most high profile cancer fights in recent memory would have to be Farrah Fawcett as she battle  Anal cancer from late 2006 until she passed away June 25, 2009. During this time she showcased cancer awareness with courage  and  endurance  while  being  transparent  telling  her  story. While  batttling the disease on both sides of the Atlantic leading her to Germany as well as United States hospitals with a will and desire to live.

The most unfortunate thing… about anal cancer being so rare 2 or 3 out of 100,000 cases  is  its’s  really hard to  find information on the internet about this type of cancer.  When I view videos  of  becoming  a  cancer survivor the qualities sticking out the most  are  those  that  survived  are optimistic  and  positive  by  natureHave  openminds  and  are  willing  to  research  it  for themself, can adapt to change and are willing to talk about.
