Increase Risk of Prostate Cancer

Past research has indicated Omega – 3  fatty acids  found in  fatty  fish, other foods and supplement form decreases your risk  for cardiovascular events.  However, new research stakes claim indicating a higher risk  for developing  prostate cancer in men.  While  some experts  have expressed skepticism about the study’s findings, men taking the supplement should thrown caution to the wind weighing the pro’s and con’s.

The study conducted at Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center,  researchers  studied  843 men  who had  prostate cancer and  another group of  1,883 men  who  didn’t have cancer. They  found  that  the  prostate cancer patients had greater levels of  the omega – 3  fatty  acids  in their blood  than  those in the non – cancer group.

They also  found high concentrations of three anti – inflammatory and metabolically related  fatty – acids called,  eicosapentaenoic acid  or  EPA, eocosapentaenoic acid  or DPA  and  docosahexaenoic acid – DHA that are    found in  fatty fish.  Such  as  salmon  as  well  as  in supplement  form are linked  with  a  71  percent increased risked of  developing the high – grade prostate cancer, the kind that is often  fatal.

The Seattle Study  also revealed that too much  fatty -acid  can also lead  to  a  44 percent  increase  in  the  risk of  low – grade prostate cancer  which grows more slowly,  as well as an overall 43 percent increase in risk  for all forms  of  prostate cancer.  The  researchers  also  said, “the  consistency  of  their  findings  suggest  fatty – acids  are  connected  with  the  development  of  prostate tumors.

The  researchers   are  unclear  about  “why,”   high  levels  of  omega – 3  fatty – acids  would  increase prostate cancer risk.  However, they point out omega – 3  fatty acids convert into other compounds that could damage cells and  DNA,  and  their  role  in  immunosuppression.   Therefore,  always  use caution when you increase your dosage of  omega – 3  fatty acids,  and when you chose a brand consider potential risk  factors.

This is my belief  from  talking to experts:  always purchase high quality standardized supplements and in the case of  fish oil supplements.  Purchase a product that has been molecular distilled,  crude  fish oil  has a lot of  gunk, a pinch of  mercury and dash of  industrial contaminants like PCB & Dioxins as elements.  Molecular Distilled  removes  these  elements  and  in it’s purest form, Omega – 3 has less odor, rancidity  and  oxidation when consumed in a timely manner.   Therefore  is Fish Oil  A Rip Off  0R  NOT?

Important NOTE: **Always  buy a  fish oil supplement  from  a  glass bottle and if the capsules cling together in the bottle when shaken instead of  rattle don’t buy them?    Food Can Be The Best Choice!!
