HERO… IS A word… that we use to represent people who do extraordinary things… Growing up there is no doubt my dad was my hero. Then came along Sherri’s diagnosis of cancer and my whole definition of Hero was challenged. She didn’t save anyone’s life, pull a kid out from in front of a car, rescue a cat from a burning building…
What she did was fiercely battled a horrendous disease, and was determined to not allow herself to be only known for cancer. But to be known as the wife, mom, friend, sister, daughter, neighbor and inspiration that she always has been throughout her life.
The day Sherri said, “I want my life back” was the day I saw a shift in her determination… To LIVE, and she did. Any of you who saw her going about her normal life had no idea the pain she suffered silently, from the surgical wounds and drain tubes, to the life threatening septic infection that nearly took her life.
From the surgery that ripped apart and scarred her body mercilessly, the Lymphedema that enlarged her arms stretching her skin, freezing her shoulder to the point of nonuse… And what of complaining can any of you say you heard come out of her mouth?!?! NONE, I mean she may have occasionally commented about “being sore or achy”…. What an Understatement and I can’t even imagined how she endured!?!
What a pleasure and honor it was to help dress, assist with and change her bandages. The closeness that we discovered through this experience has solidified our eternal bond as the Love from Service and Being Served enables both of us to grow closer than words can express.
I am not grateful for my wife’s physical turmoil, I Am Grateful for the Multitude of Blessings that came from the experience and the way I know and have lived True Love!!!! With My Hero!!!! Sincerely, Bo Webb 🙂
