Winning the Mental Game: Understanding Focus with Dr. Amber Selking!

Everybody’s lives are different because we all have had different experiences that
have shaped our lives. We all view things differently with different habits, disciplines
and a focus to what we are drawn to do with our lives. Action creates traction ~ small
gains over time separate people/ Wired in wired out inspires the fire within all of us.
Having a positive mind and positive emotions helps us to make better choices over time. The most popular “bad habit” is procrastination, when you procrastinate you are “no longer” ahead in the game and still have to do it and you fall further behind in the game.

When you are behind in the game it promotes a self-defeating attitude. When you are winning, you create self-awareness and an openness of creativity that produces more confidence.   When you show up with confidence other people respond to your thoughts, feelings and emotions and perform better. Therefore, everybody makes more logical choices through their self-thoughts, body languages, support system with preparation through past experiences. If you’re going to win in your life it has to be different from
the normal.

Normal is only average?

Therefore, your relationships toward life all have to take on different characteristics
than what is normal. Your daily habits, disciplines are critical, and your focus can’t be undermined through others that don’t want you to chase a dream or achieve the goals
that you are chasing.  When we do what we feel is right everything generally turns out
right in the end. When we do what we feel is right regardless of what others may think.
Because he knows it will grow the next best version of ourselves that’s a key to success.

When the brain is in the right thought form or frame of mind it creates clarity and also problem solves better. It’s all about getting others in the right frame of mind to wrestle with the right challenges. When you apply the fundamentals, it brings you to the right moment in time which creates better experiences for ourselves.

And through the power of prayer (Five Our Fathers Five Hail Mary
and a ‘Mission Statement’ what you’re trying to achieve).
I have noticed it gets you in the right places to meet the right people that
will supply you with the right answers to get you to the next step in time.

“Our thoughts are quite often one of the biggest drivers of success predictors and how we’re going to show up into that moment. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Physical toughness does not equal mental toughness.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Behaviors are all learned.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

If you teach some fundamentals of how to manage your mind and emotions up front, and then put them in difficult situations where they have to practice those skills and really learn how to use them in high pressure moments, then that’s a really effective

and powerful way to actually build and teach mental toughness.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Build one routine that strengthens your character and one routine that strengthens

your work ethic.  @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

If you don’t have solid character and understand who you are and what’s important

to you, it’s really hard to work hard. Particularly when no one is watching.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Give yourself a little grace.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

We are all not in the same boat. We are all in the same storm though. While we are all in the same storm, we are all in different boats in terms of how we’re navigating the storm. The importance is that we are actually navigating this storm. We don’t have to be at the mercy of the boat. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Routines are important. Put some structure around your life.

@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Live this season.  Live the season that you’re in. We’re never going to have this time again. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Challenge is what forges greatness. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

The sun is going to shine again. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Don’t miss what this season forges in us.  Be empathetic to yourself and to others.

Give yourself grace but structure and discipline in your life. Get outside.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

We’re not at 100% every day, but we can be 100% at the percent we can give.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

I need 100% of whatever percent you’ve got to give on this day.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

We’re not going to sprint through this often, but we can take one step at a time.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

A champion mindset is a combination of physical, technical, tactical, and mental.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Sport is 90% physical and 10% mental. It’s the 10% that controls the 90%.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

It takes an elite physical conditioning: You’ve got to be technically sound, you’ve got to

be tactfully smart and understand your sport really well, and you’ve got to be mentally tough. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

You can have an awesome 90% but if that 10% isn’t working for you, you can’t

get it out when it matters most. That’s why it’s important to think like a champion.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Building strong healthy mindsets like you got to the weight room to train your body.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

If we can really help individuals learn how to think right and build healthy mindsets,

we can actually manage and mitigate a lot of the mental health issues and disorders
that we’re seeing in our world and society today”
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

If we can help our individuals how to think right and build healthy mindsets,

we can prepare them – not just for sport – but for life in general.   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Sports psychology happens to and through the coach.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Coaches make or break the student athlete sport experience, just like parents

have a big impact on that as well. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

The brain in a positive state thinks more clearly, creatively, and this problem solves better.  When things get really difficult is when we need our brains in a positive state more than ever. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

The most fundamental sport skill of any sport is the ability to focus.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Being able to focus is the most important and fundamental sport skill.

When you’re focused at practice, practice works better. It’s critical to be able to
deliver your best on a consistent basis. @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Our thoughts affect our emotions, which affect our physiological response,

which drives our performance.  What starts the process? Thoughts.
Who controls your thoughts?   @LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Coaches give their athletes thoughts.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

Think about what you’re thinking about.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking

It’s not rocket science, it’s just brain science.
@LIOVirtualathleticsummit @drselking
