Gorgeous day in the park with Nia’s friends!
Just another intro to a fad fitness practice? No way!
This is more like an invitation to feel better in your body and
experience movement that is effective, fun and actually feels good!
A powerful fusion of dance, martial arts and mindfulness practices, Nia delivers a full body workout while moving to a variety of soundscapes. Nia is for everyBody.

All fitness levels encouraged!
Sharing Nia is one of my greatest joys in life. Spreading awareness of this practice to help people feel better and discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life, is an act of love. One of the things I love most about Nia is the people. I feel so lucky to have walked (and danced) with some very wise and beautiful people on this path.

The Nia Technique – Bing video
An expressive movement and lifestyle practice delivering the promise of body conditioning. Nia is an international movement, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Learn more about Nia: www.nianow.com
Born in 1983, Nia is now internationally recognized as one of the fastest growing fusion fitness techniques in the country. Created by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Aya Rosas, Nia’s grounded approach maximizes body efficiency and teaches you to consciously move in a gentler way. Nia uses The Body’s Way to get fit, stay healthy, and self-heal to bring greater comfort, joy, and power into your life.

Nia offers the expressiveness of dance (Duncan, Modern, Jazz),
the power and explosiveness of martial arts (Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido),
and the body awareness of healing arts (The Work of Moshe Feldenkrais,
Alexander Technique, Yoga).
Equating fitness with movement, Nia awakens feelings and sensations throughout your entire body, allowing you to grow and heal through self-expression and to relax into comfort and strength. Nia invites you to listen to and trust your body’s inherent wisdom. Nia’s playfulness and expressiveness revitalizes your mind and body as it uplifts your
spirit and emotions.  NASA (@nasa) • Instagram photos and videos

When my body, mind, emotions and spirit need a little TLC,
I feel a pull to get as close to the earth as possible.
When I drop down to the floor, I’m immediately grounded.
I feel supported by the earth’s energy.
I can open up my joints in ways that only the support of the floor and gravity can provide. From the floor, I can strengthen and stretch, and increase agility using gravity and the space around as elements to condition my muscles and support healing.

As a child, playing on the floor was natural. As an adult, the floor is still the best way to learn, grow, develop and receive lasting benefits. Getting up and down from the floor is an all too important skill to maintain as we age. Remember when you were a kid and didn’t think about exercise? Play was our exercise. And it still can be! Kids and animals don’t look for the hard way to do things. They are driven by instinct and play to move their bodies.

They are deeply connected to the Joy of Movement. They move because it feels good.
In Nia (recess for adults), we move because it feels good too! AND fitness/wellness
is a by-product of moving.
We follow the Pleasure Principle. If it feels good, do it! If it doesn’t, stop!
We are more likely to stick with a workout that feels good than one that is drudgery or worse, hurts. Nia changes bodies and lives around the world by inspiring and guiding people to listen to the wisdom of their bodies, choose movement that feels good and find connection in community.

Believe it! You CAN make time for joyful, healthy movement and self-care.

And YES, you CAN dance!
Never underestimate the power of community connection to support you in your body and life goals. I receive so much love and support from the local and global Nia community as well as The Collective community.

Ah the healing vibration of sound! We receive it from the music we dance to and we can create healing sound from within. In Nia, we use tone, words, and singing to heal and empower the body, mind, emotion and spirit.

The way Nia uses voice, sound, and music are all directed towards enhancing your
well-being. Did you know that every cell in your body is a resonator that responds to sound coming from the outside AND inside of your body including your mental, emotional and spiritual states of consciousness respond to sound?

Biking is another movement of mine, especially when I can get into the woods on a dirt trail! I love the sense of dynamic ease during this magical balancing act and being fully present moment to moment, while navigating obstacles and doing my best to not crash 😉.

Nia is a lot like riding a bike.
Keep moving the Nia way and you will sense dynamic ease and Balance!
So, keep moving, my friends. What movement loves are in your life?
This is me learning a move in Nia’s newest routine Express. It’s a fun swerve,
reverse spinal rolls our fabulous choreographer @kelleraeoien calls “The MTV”.

 😋🤩🥰

With practice, I’m pretty sure I could rock this in a music video.
JAZZ is the dance of Fun, Showmanship and Expression and one of the nine movement forms influencing our practice. In Nia, we use the energy and chemistry of JAZZ to connect to our personal expression with our Upper Extremities. When we dance and connect with this movement form, we feel seen, empowered and alive in our movement.

I love helping people feel better. I became a massage therapist and certified to teach
Nia in the same year, 18 years ago. I like to say that massage is passive bodywork and
healthy movement like Nia is active bodywork.

BOTH are important tools for health and well-being.

MT helps alleviate and manage chronic pain. As does Nia.

MT helps increase endorphins and feelings of well-being. As does Nia.

MT helps us maintain a healthy nervous system and relieve stress. As does Nia.

MT helps alleviate anxiety and depression. As does Nia.

MT helps move stuck energy patterns in the body. As does Nia.

MT can help increase flexibility, muscle tone and improve joint health. As does Nia.

MT increases cardiovascular and lymphatic circulation. As does Nia.

While it may be impractical and unaffordable to get daily massages, getting your regular dose of healthy movement like Nia provides all these benefits and in ways somewhat better than massage therapy with consistency. Plus you receive cardiovascular conditioning, strength and agility, fun, creativity and community support.

Nia IS Bodywork and so much more!
There is something about sensing the first signs of fall in Florida that puts a little bounce in my step! I feel a little giddy thinking about cooler weather and Halloween. Autumn connects me to my inner child… the collective return to school, getting to dress up for the holiday, the changing season…

We can learn a lot from our inner child. Children naturally live sensory lives. From the time they are born, they base much of their communication on what they sense in their bodies. As we grow up, become more cerebral in our day to day life and tend to lose that connection to the basic information our body gives us in any given moment.

Nia teaches how to reclaim living a sensory life as a valuable tool to nurture body and spirit, reach potential and find fulfillment. Sensation is information and helps us to make better moment to moment choices.. The more we take time to tune in and listen, the more adept we become at living a Sensory Life.

Through movement we find health, and healthy movement hinges on pleasure and comfort, and on self-healing and conditioning, which comes from working with your body, and finding the right motivation and inspiration to stick with what’s good for you.
Bring every part of you to the dance with love. Love your body, love your life!

Every Nia class begins with a focus and intent for our hour of practice.

The season of PLAY is almost upon us. Whether for you, school is out or work is still in, the collective spirit of the summer is a great time to loosen up, let go, unwind and PLAY more! It is the time of the year when the natural world is most alive, expressive, abundant and PLAY-full. “And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” Kahlil Gibran

Play is inherent now. It is our birthright. It is through Sacred PLAY that we receive the gifts of self-discovery, stress relief and creativity. Sensing PLAY in the body is a powerful elixir. Pleasure heals. I find myself reminded of this every time I dance to live music, get on my bike, swim and attend Nia Classes, Playshops and Trainings. I’ve come to know deeply, how vital PLAY is in order to feed my spirit, nurture my body, balance my emotions and free my mind.

I hope you will make.
It is our way to become fully present in the moment to connect with the Joy of movement and learn the tools, moves and principles of Nia to discover more about ourselves. The beauty of this is that we can apply setting a focus and intent to everything we do. Do you have a focus for this week?

Is there an intention you would like to set that your focus could support?
I consider this practice to act as my “north star” for the period of time it is
set and always encourage students to bring their personal focus to their
Nia practice in addition to the class focus.

Being wild means deep listening to what matters most to us.

Being soft means allowing our hearts to open.
These sensations allow us to connect with the natural rhythms within ourselves and our world around us.  How do we transform our sadness, anger, frustration and outrage along with a whole spectrum of emotions including guilt and shame, into something that can bring healing to our communities?

We stand up. We march. We use our voices. We express ourselves.
We open our eyes and our hearts. We get outside our comfort zone. We change our destructive conscious and unconscious beliefs. We MOVE. We move to transform our emotions to be a beacon of peace and to gain clarity about our personal Truth. Thoughts and emotions are energy and are part of our physical being. They are not separate. If you want to change the way you think and feel, change the way you MOVE.

MOVE your thoughts and emotions through your body so that they can transform.
Every time we dance authentically, we become a better version of ourselves.
Nia is always supporting you to be brave, to do better.
That’s what this practice is all about. As soon as you step out of the door it’s straight

into the fast lane 🌸that’s what it feels like when you are horizontal
or are you adventurous in everything your do

Have a great day 🔥🔥🔥💜💜💜
